All quiet in France

France mobilized 35,000 police and 50,000 firefighters for the traditional new year's eve Car-B-Q. And the evening was "rather calm without major incident".

And about 1,147 cars were torched, which no longer qualifies as a major incident, apparently.

I wish someone would torch 1,000 cars where I live - it might help melt the snow.

Posted by: Fritz at January 1, 2009 10:34 PM

So 1,147 torched cars is now just normal for the French.Say what you like.Their economy will never suffer. The white flag factories will always be producing.

I have to go along with Fritz. I have a couple of older cars I wouldn't mind giving up for the insurance money.

You have to read that a few times to realize that it is REAL!!! Even then, it still seems like something out of The Onion.

Wow!

And neo is off and running with a flying headstart for comment of the year...ROTFLMAO.

Something Montreal can look forward to in the near future. Why again are we importing people who hate us & everyone on the Planet?

Posted by: Revnant Dream at January 2, 2009 12:31 AM

An 8% Year over Year increase in the number of people arrested while there was a 208% Year over Year increase in the number of cars torched. More productive rioters or more focused (according to the article they didn't go after buildings and police and fire vehcles like they have in the past).

We should be happy that they are learning. Maybe they can learn to behave like a traditional Frenchman like the Ductch are expecting their civilly disobedient community to behave more like a tradtional Dutchman.

Posted by: rroe at January 2, 2009 12:50 AM

BUT IT'S NOT CRIMINAL.It is only "youth" trying to find their way in a different cultural that won't accept them.

Expect the above to be a headline soon.

Posted by: Justthinkin at January 2, 2009 1:04 AM

Just further “normalization” of Islam by the MSM.

Some day their kids will reminisce about the good ol days when only half the city burned on “special events” which were once called holidays.

Posted by: Knight 99 at January 2, 2009 2:25 AM

They probably burned their own cars so I don't really feel that bad.

Posted by: Phil at January 2, 2009 2:47 AM

Phil - they didn't know they were burning cars because they don't even know what a car is (let alone have one)!!!

These medieval einsteins probably thought they were making some sort of virginal sacrifice to the mad mutter mohakmed (allllllah akbar) himself.

Virginal in that it was one of the few things on the block that they haven't tried to have sex with yet.

Ooops, did I say that out loud???

Posted by: Frenchie77 at January 2, 2009 6:50 AM

Read the first line of the article, it is sanitized in a way that you can only marvel at:

"More than 280 people were detained and more than 1,000 cars torched during New Year celebrations across France"

... as though torching cars were a normal expected outcome from celebrating New Years, for crying out loud. See how this compares:

"More than 50 people were hurt this weekend putting up their Christmas decorations", or "There were over 100 minor fenderbenders recorded in area shopping malls this weekend as shopper flocked to the stores for their Christmas shopping"

Not only has the muslim angle been completely erased, but the overall tone of the article implies, "Ahh... no big deal". Amazing. Or perhaps, rioting muslims are commonplace enough to ignore, these days.

Goebbels would be envious.

Ah yes, the "troubled suburbs" where "youths" have torched cars in the past. Translated those two euphemisms mean muslim ghettos where police fear to tread. Behold the future of Eurabia.

Posted by: JMD at January 2, 2009 10:46 AM

Medieval "einsteins"? Hey guess what, Einstein! Einstein is a formal name, and thus, should be capitalized.

Oh, the delicious irony.

I guess it's just completely beyond your comprehension how a group of individuals with no voice and no power might lash out against an intolerant society which has consistently shut them out socially and economically. Yes, if it's beyond your realm of experience, it doesn't exist.

Posted by: Izanpo at January 2, 2009 10:48 AM

izanpo, you ignorant swine. My ancestors went through the exact same experience. Irish immigrants to Canada were persecuted well into the late 20th century, so were Italians, Polish, Jewish. How did we deal with it? We got whatever jobs we could, and worked our way up. These muslims are simply too lazy to work for anything. In the spirit of the prophet, they believe they can take it by force. It will backfire.

Posted by: dp at January 2, 2009 11:56 AM

Izanpo

Instead of whining about spelling and capitalization of names, maybe you can explain why it's the Frenchies responsibility to provide for these unfortunate "youths"?

If France is so bad for this lot, I invite them to return to Algeria where their parents or grandparents came from. Otherwise, what are you crabbing about? Are you under the impression their opions are worse in France than Algeria? If not, your point is moot.

Since when does the world owe anyone a living? Want to get ahead? Can't get hired by some other guy's company? Start your own. There is no devine right to prosper from the creations of others. If you want a great society, you have to build one. You don't expect it handed to you.

The Jews seem to have been able to prosper all throughout history living in societies which often didn't just discriminate against them but killed them - never mind a bit of "intolerance."

And then maybe explain how people who are so un-tolerated (to pen a term) feel no fear in regards to their nightly Car-B-Q. It's the Frenchies who aren't tolerated in France these days. Of course, they did bring it onto themselves. Too bad we're trying desperately to catch up.

Neo,

Best line of the year and it's the beginning of January...

Izanpo; Don't be a putz, Take the blinders off for a minute Man.
(A)(a group of individuals with no voice) You have to think for yourself instead of being told what to think and do by a spiritual leader or family. Going out and getting a date for New Year eve is an individual acomplishment, why would you need a group thing. I could go on but, no.
(B)(and no power)What is power. Power is something you earn, it's not given to you. Get a job, create a job, get away from people that are going to hold you back, even if it is your family, change your name. Poeple that came to North America over the last 200 years did exactly that when they came from thier home countries.
(C)(might lash out against an intolerant society) Remember that this may not be your country yet or maybe it is. So what, who has to give more and try harder, YOU DO as an imigrant or as an individual. You should not be expected to have something you don't work for. (I've told my children this) All our fore fathers did, now you are calling us intolerant.

(which has consistently shut them out socially and economically.) Refer to points A & B again!

Posted by: Cal S at January 2, 2009 12:27 PM

Izanpo, I'm feeling a little frustrated and shut out here in Canada these days. Could you let me know where your car is parked?

Posted by: Kevin Jaeger at January 2, 2009 12:36 PM

Warwick....
It's very easy for you to say those things considering your very comfortable life.

"Since when does the world owe anyone a living? Want to get ahead? Can't get hired by some other guy's company? Start your own."

I'm sorry, but I must outright reject your very narrow ideals regarding how society should function. But some things are more important than the capitalist model and the almighty dollar.

My partner is an artist, a real artist; one who has maintained his integrity by not pandering to the beer-swilling, hockey-night-in-Canada crowd. He receives government grants which allow him to pursue his passion and create brilliant works of art, for which society benefits tremendously.

Society is rewarded when it invests in its own citizens. It's just that simple.

Kevin....

You would have a difficult time torching our car as my partner and I don't have one. Some years ago we made a conscious decision to get rid of our vehicle in order to minimize our carbon footprint.

Posted by: Izanpo at January 2, 2009 1:49 PM

Well, I'd settle for the artwork, since I've generously paid for it anyway. Where could I find it?

Posted by: Kevin Jaeger at January 2, 2009 2:09 PM

izanpo (should I have CApitaLIzed that, besides, capitals are so passe as belonging to the hegemonic white male establishment)

...to minimize our carbon footprint...

Ahhh, I see, this is the nutty muslims real aim, they are true eco-visionaries and by torching all these cars they believe that they are reducing France's carbon footprint. Its so simple really....they ARE einsteins.

Thanks for helping me through this!!!

BTW, does your partner take AAs or AAAs???

Posted by: Frenchie77 at January 2, 2009 2:33 PM

Izanpo

If you reject the capitalist model and the almighty dollar, feel free to go someplace where they have neither. I earned my "comfortable" life.

I outright reject your idiocy, leftardism and lack of basic economic literacy.

Your deadbeat "partner" is benefiting only him/her and you. Society is not better off for having "art" no one wants and no one sees but a handful of sponge freeloaders who feel it their right to live off the labour of others - FORCIBLY TAKEN by the state. Don't pretend to think that because you would like to not have to do something productive and that others should be forced to do such menial work on your behalf to subsidize you that you are doing society a favour. Society has done you deadbeat loafers the favour - thanklessly at that.

Just because you use the coercive power of the state to do your stealing, doesn't mean you're not a thief.

And your idiotic comment about the "almighty dollar" is economic sophistry. A dollar is a medium of exchange. It is the artificial representation of work (not that a leftard would know the meaning of work) that modern society uses in place of having to barter your next meal using a few chickens and a goat. It is nothing more than a proxy for your labour. Perhaps if you had to barter, you'd have a more realistic idea of what you take from everyone else. Perhaps if you had to actually earn something only to have it confiscated to pay for some deadbeat "artist" who feels too important to get a job, you'd know where everyone else was coming from.

I like to engage in my hobby of photography (nature, landscapes and travel.) I don't assume I have the right to make you pay for it. I went out, earned and education and got a f'ing job and pay for my "art" all by myself. Before you go off on your "well you're just not a good enough artist to do it professionally" line I know is in your snotty little head I would point out neither is your "partner" or they wouldn't need the subsidy.

Posted by: Warwick at January 2, 2009 2:39 PM

izanpo, you parasite. Where do you think your parasite "partner" gets all his funding? It's from all those tax paying, beer swilling, hockey night in Canada brutes. The least you could do is say thank you.

Maintained his integrity? Are you joking? He's a leech. A worthless parasite, with no job skills.

Posted by: dp at January 2, 2009 2:42 PM

Unbelievable.

Posted by: mark peters at January 2, 2009 2:48 PM

Izanpo has to be a troll. Has to be.

"My partner is an artist..." I have trouble believing even the most idiotic leftard spewing this drivel, unless it's meant to flame. Honestly. But good comments, dp/Warwick. I've nothing to add :)

But if he/she/it is really on the level, that'd also explain the "get rid of our vehicle to get rid of our carbon footprint" shtick. How many polar bears did THAT save, bonehead? Maybe you can reduce your footprint further in winter by eschewing fossil fuel or electric heating, and burn your partner's "art". Might be a problem if it's the sort that includes crucifixes dunked in urine or dung smeared on the Virgin's portrait, though; that might stink up your uptown loft.

The most prolific immigrants throughout the world have been the Chinese. Do the majority of them arrive in their host countries rich? Have they ever been persecuted and marginalized?

Funny within a generation at most they generally become the pillars of their chosen society and either embrace their new culture or they quietly and without malice keep their traditional customs to themselves.

Islam creates its own ghetto’s and insulated societies of hatred! They use their host countries like parasites, draining is social resources and acclimatizing its political and cultural structures to suit their aggressive and bloody ideological needs. These host countries provide a safe sanctuary, to indoctrinate foot soldiers and accumulate funding to service their insane holy war on the remaining inhabitants of the planet.

They then take this war to all corners of the globe and its inhabitants, whether you are black or white, Buddhist, Hindu or Christian. Much of the time they kill each other.

This is not a fantasy nor is it isolated. It is not about disenfranchised youths or about marginalized members of a given society. This is about a sick culture within other sick cultures that most westerners cannot comprehend. It is as much about cultural jealousy’s underlying the “religious” vindications that have created a hate so deep for the west that coveting its lands and the gang rape of its women is the sole reason for many of them to live. The proof of this is the focal fascination of the Islamic invasion spreading the furthest and deepest into European societies other than the inroads it’s made into Far Eastern societies. One reason is the Asian view of charity and tolerance towards Muslims, the second is the lack of desirable booty. (SEA - Indonesia & Malaysia, Brunei not withstanding as third world “developing” countries that still adhere to their traditional monarchies).

Your “partner” lives off my back if he’s subsidized by the Canadian government!

Let me take a looong wild guess, his “art” at the very least contains visually sexual or horrific imagery that most “knuckle dragging” conservatives would find distasteful or unpalatable?

Nothing we’d ever buy personally with the hard earned cash of our labors I’ll bet! Yet pay for it we do.

I’ll echo Warwick’s comments: If your “partner” was any good – that means in the real world – his art would sell itself and he’d be genuine, self sufficient and a widely respected artist, no handouts required.
