Can We Speak Of The New York Times' Decline?

"Hey, remember that time Sarah Palin thought she was talking on the phone with Nicolas Sarkozy?"

Here's another story about Caroline Kennedy: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/23/nyregion/23kennedy.html?ref=politics

She's refusing to provide a financial disclosure.

Hummmmmm.Know why would one refuse to say where they got their bucks from??? Should be grounds for automatic refusal to be allowed to run for,or from, anything.

Lazlo Toth is still in business?

You think the NY Times is no longer the reliable "paper of record"? You think it's biased? Nonsense. To give you just one example of how wrong you are, consider the following article published this past weekend:

The Reckoning: White House Philosophy Stoked Mortgage Bonfire.

Until now, I bet you thought that Democrats were the primary advocates of lax lending standards. Well, now you know better, and only because the NY Times exists to set the record straight.

Now, shut up and eat your breakfast.

I heard that Caroline Kennedy was so interested in politics that she didn't even bother voting in a number of elections.

And now she wants the job.

Bizarre. But then what isn't with the Kennedys?

Posted by: rockyt at December 23, 2008 8:15 AM

Republicans are "gulled". The NY Times was "violated".

Everybody got that? Are we clear? Because we wouldn't want one of you weak minded voter/peons to screw up and waste your vote on the Bad Guys(TM).

if it looks lke a koan....and sounds like a koan...then it all likelihood it's not a koan....

Time Quote:"
This letter was a fake. It should not have been published."
Seems to me there are a few other things the Times should not have published. Like the Pulitzer prize winner who wrote the phony story of a drug addict. How about the reporter who ran the marathon on the subway.
It's a rag that soaks up more dirt than a Sham-wow soaks up water.

I think that that was the Washington Post, although I certainly agree that the New York Times is not a very reliable news source.

Jim:
You're correct. Her name was Janet Cooke. My mistake.

Posted by: Ghost of Ed at December 23, 2008 10:21 AM

The reporter I was thinking of at the Times was Jayson Blair. But he didn't win the pulitzer. He was just an ordinary liar.

Posted by: Ghost of Ed at December 23, 2008 10:28 AM

Jim and Ed, I'm reminded of another fabulous example. Rigoberta Menchu. Still being feted by the Left, I believe.

And there's always the old original, Margaret Mead. Margaret made a whole career out of being suckered by a bunch of teenagers. As Bugs Bunny says, what a maroon!

Posted by: The Phantom at December 23, 2008 10:33 AM

Phantom.
Right on. And Menchu won a Nobel prize for her fabrications. Another major embarrassment.

Posted by: Ghost of Ed at December 23, 2008 10:38 AM

The NYT has NEVER had any value.

Just ask the victims of Walter Duranty's soviet friends.

NYT has never had a problem ignoring the facts when it suited their agenda. Sometimes for decades. Hopefully, they won't make it to a full century.

So did Al Gore...

Which raises the question: Is a Nobel Peace Prize worth anything anymore? Or is it merely another mindless exercise in lieberal self-aggrandizement?

""""" Is a Nobel Peace Prize worth anything anymore? Or is it merely another mindless exercise in lieberal self-aggrandizement?""""

YES, it's still worthy 'cuz Arfart won one for carrying that neutered 32cal into the UN, didn't he?

"Which raises the question: Is a Nobel Peace Prize worth anything anymore? "

Ask Yasser...

Posted by: Texas Canuck at December 23, 2008 12:38 PM

Texas Canuck,
my understanding is that the Nobel family was in the arms business.

Their reputation suffered because of this, and they hired PR people who came up with the idea of the Nobel Prize to change the perception.

I guess it worked, because now everybody sees them as this prestigious, altruistic family.

(How are you re-adjusting to life in the Great White North?)

I'm hoping that Caroline can come up with a US birth certificate! They have fancy ones in Kenya though I hear.
