Y2Kyoto: Death Valley Solar Photovoltaic Facility Dedication Event

"Because of the winter storm and several road closings in the area, the December 16, 2008 dedication of the solar photovoltaic system in Death Valley National Park has been cancelled."

(Also postponed: What happens in Vegas and surfing in Malibu.)

I was at the south rim of the Grand Canyon one winter and there was at least a foot of snow on the ground.

BTW do you know the OTHER thing that causes glaciers to retreat? Absence of precipitation!

Keep Gore and the enviroloons away from Calgary. We've got enough cold and snow at the moment to last the entire winter!

As a warm climate dweller (I live in Los Angeles), this storm is actually affecting me personally. My father and brothers are currently stucked in the the high desert of San Bernardino due to road closure on their way back from Las Vegas. Highway 15 is closed on both end of the high desert both on state line and on the mountain pass towards the rest of Los Angeles basin. As you can imagine, all of the local hotel room got booked. I think they're spending the night in a Deny's restaurant.

I've keep on telling my co-worker that we don't have global warming, but global cooling to content with. Perhaps they'll now listen.

Naw, it's just weather we're having.
Can we stop with the crisis mongering already?

There is enough wrong with human governance that we can do something about without the hysteria of manufactured bogeymen out of our control.

DrD. Couldn't agree more!!!! We've had 4" so far, still falling, with wonderful highs of between -23 and-21,low around -35.On second thoughts, bring the fat prick up here, with shorts and a t-shirt for a couple of nights, and put him on the street!!!

Exactly Edward Teach. It is lack of precipitation that caused the retreat of the Kilimanjaro snows in the last century. It had nothing to do with global warming. Extensive deforestation around the base of the mountain reduced the moisture content of the air so less snow fell on the mountain. Don't tell the Goreacle, though. He is having so much fun peddling his version of events to the gullible.

Posted by: JMD at December 18, 2008 12:09 PM

I'll settle with God is telling Al Gore to STFU.

...As I get ready for the storm system approaching Michigan...

As long as everyone is running in circles, in a state of confusion, there will be plenty of really bad ideas slipping through. Shell is now running ads, pushing "gas to liquid" fuels. You know what that is? Methanol. One of the most toxic substances ever created.

The city of Medicine Hat started using methanol in their vehicles, including transit buses. Several people, mostly mechanics ended up with serious, and permanent disabilities from exposure to this stuff. There were some very ugly lawsuits, and they stopped the practise completely.

Anyone who's ever taken a WHMIS or TDG course can tell you that methanol is bad news.

I appreciate that it is difficult for you mouth breathers to understand, but this is exactly what the theory of climate change predicts will happen - while the overall temperature of the earth will rise (hence the initial nomenclature of "global warming") what is predicted to happen in the first instance is extreme weather events like oh, I don't know, snow in Vegas.

Posted by: mw at December 18, 2008 12:56 PM

Welcome to all the Canadian Cynic retards. MW, first it was an impending ice age, then it was global warming, NOW its climate change where BOTH can happen.

Can't you left-tards ever get your "theories" straight? What "theory" will it be tommorrow. Go back to sleep, left-tards.

Posted by: Anony at December 18, 2008 1:03 PM

MW- Predict 'til you're blue in the face. Even if you're right it doesn't change the fact that Gore, Suzuki, et al are manipulating the situation to get very rich.

Posted by: dp at December 18, 2008 1:07 PM

MW - of course all the models of climate change never accounted for a decade a cooling we're experiencing now. A year is an anomaly, 2 or 3 are flukes but a decade is at least a start to a trend.

Climate change is an always win point of view. Even if your wrong you can always claim your small actions won the war on climate change, and even if your right about the outcome you can always claim your small actions where not enough.

Posted by: duffman at December 18, 2008 1:17 PM

this has to be a bwahaahahahaha moment

Posted by: cal2 at December 18, 2008 1:23 PM

What MW doesn't seem to appreciate is that exactly the opposite train of events could occur and would make the same remark. When a supposed theory is used to explain literally everything then it explains nothing and means nothing.

Of course MW has a bigger problem to explain: namely how his claim of increasing temperature can be reconciled to the observed stability and decline of world average temperatures over the past 10 years. Lamentably for MW, he has only electronic hallucinations called computer models for 'evidence'; the skeptics have a little phenomenon called direct measurement.

Posted by: cgh at December 18, 2008 1:27 PM

Lawsuits, lawsuits - will stop the GW fraud in its (snow)tracks.

Question: If Gore and Suzuki were successfully hit with $Billion dollar fraud suits and no media was there to report it - would millions still buy(literally) Kyoto

Posted by: ron in kelowna at December 18, 2008 1:45 PM

Ron, you are a deep thinker, deep thinkers are a threat to the Algores and Suzukers and other brain deads like MW anon atlantic jim etc. When you have idiots sending you millions of their hard inherited money, like most liberals live on, you don't want the scam to end. Yes lawsuits are the only way this scam will end and we can quit wasting billions on a non-existant problem, as children starve and people go homeless we give podiums to morons like Lezzy May, Suzuker, Gore Hansen and on and on.

Really? Who predicted an ice age? The majority of the studies back in the 70s were already predicting a global warming only a handful went the other way.

You know, like all the experts on here who consider the current events proof positive that we're heading for an ice age.

Posted by: Snowrunner at December 18, 2008 2:42 PM

All this snow and cold! We should be praising the Goreacle for his wisdom in showing us the error of our ways! Why, even before the great climate prophet could complete his holy work and lead us all down the path to a virtuous life-style that mimics our innocent cave-man days, the climate has already responded to our miniscule, albeit selectively profitable, steps toward a greener existence!

Praise the Goreacle! And pass the snow-shovel.

Posted by: FredR at December 18, 2008 2:49 PM

Yes, we all know it's cold outside. But that doesn't change the fact that when you observe the global system as a whole, it's getting warmer.

"Scientists say they now have unambiguous evidence that the warming in the Arctic is accelerating.

Computer models have long predicted that decreasing sea ice should amplify temperature changes in the northern polar region.

Julienne Stroeve, from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center, told a meeting of the American Geophysical Union that this process was under way.

Arctic ice cover in summer has seen rapid retreat in recent years.

The minimum extents reached in 2007 and 2008 were the smallest recorded in the satellite age."

It would seem that Boxer & Nancy are extremely worried that "The big three" not proceed with litigation (sign off on California's GHG) contingent on a bailout. It would be reasonable that GM Shareholders have damages that need to be litigated. The fear of litigation and the loss of credibility may make Scientists behave more like adults.

The Elimination & reorganization of the 9th circuit would be the first step. Justice is not possible in the 9th. Pay to Play judgements are
only overturned at the US Supreme level. If you don't have the money to go all the way.. you lose

The rumor mill has the OBama admin maintaining Bush's veto of EPA's approval of California Regs.
Nancy is screeching about been left out of the loop...

If I hadn't heard it with my own ears....

I just tuned in to Lou Dobbs on CNN. He was interviewing a global warming skeptic, whose name I didn't catch. He brought CNN's weatherman(Chad Myers) into the conversation, and lo and behold, he's also a skeptic. They all seemed to agree that AGW is a very weak theory.

I wonder if they'll get fired, like Glen Beck?

Holy Cripes! Snow in Las Vegas!!!

It's Global Warming, I tell yer; global warming!!! The end is nigh, wot wiv snow in Las Vegas 'n all!!

"Really? Who predicted an ice age? The majority of the studies back in the 70s were already predicting a global warming only a handful went the other way."

Not so fast, cowboy. Newsweek had a front cover issue on the 'new ice age' (Apr. 28/75)and you don't get a Newsweek cover unless the story is firmly embedded in the popular psyche. 'Global Cooling' was the prevailing wisdom of the day.

Before that it was the 'Silent Spring' of Rachel Carson, predicting that pesticides would bring about species collapse. Due to her rantings, the unintended consequence was the deaths of untold millions of Africans over several decades.

All of these have one thing in common: a 'messiah complex' by those who fervently believe that if the world does not heed their revelations, a catastrophe of unspeakable proportions will be inevitable.

All of them have been wrong.

Sorry Snowrunner, I forgot to add the links regarding the Newsweek article and I don't like to bloviate on something without including references.

It's cold and snowy where it's supposed to be at this time of year and cold and snowy where it's not supposed to be any time of year and it's called climate change due to global warming?

I'm confused, time to have a chin wag with Lizzy May, she'll know what's going on. If she doesn't she'll make it up like the rest of them.

Posted by: Liz J at December 18, 2008 9:56 PM

uhm...it snows in death vally in the winter. It always has. Something about mountain tops and high sierra being...high...up in the cold thin air, you know....snows in mexico too...even the andes of deepest peru. wow. who knew?
