Posted by: uuess at December 3, 2008 1:20 PMHere's a news item you won't read about in the MSM: apparently the Polish government is rejecting the need for any stimulus package at all.
"Poland has no intention of trying to spend its way out of the looming economic slowdown, Donald Tusk, the prime minister has said. The comments align his country with Germany rather than the US and the UK as international divisions grow over how to handle the recession.
“When I talk to European politicians who boldly tell me how much money they are going to pump into the economy, I pose the question, ‘Where do you have the money for that?’,” Mr Tusk told the Financial Times.
“We aren’t saying that because we don’t have gigantic sums of money,” he said. “I don’t think that borrowing money on a huge scale is a good method of resolving the crisis.”
The article is in today Financial Times online.
If the MSM ever gave the time of day to a story like this, they would only do so in order to denounce Poland's strategy as lunacy.

Posted by: Pd at December 3, 2008 1:58 PMA terrific piece q while back from the Von Mises Institute enviserating Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman's nutty notion that savings hurt the economy: "The Paradox of Thrift". What caused me to laugh out loud is not only the anti-common-sense nuttiness of the notion, but that Krugman breathlessly explains that it's the lesson he most looks forward to giving in his economics classes:
Consumers Don't Cause Recessions
Mr. William Johnson was on a call-in program for CPAC this morning. He indicated that the whole concept of Parliamentary Democracy is based on a House of two parties only. It was never intended in its design to accommodate the demands/policies of more than two parties.
This must now have an important impact on the functionality of Canadian Parliament?

Support the forestry industry, but don't cut any trees!
Stand up for woman's rights, but don't vote for them!

I would have to agree with Mr Johnson...even if the CpC manages to survive this attack, there is no mechanism in place to prevent a repeat perfomance in the forseeable future.
Parliamentary Democracy can only work in a mutually honourable setting as practiced by honourable people.
Having a meddling seperatist party which shows no real concerns for the well being of this country and whose PRIME objective is to extract as much as it can for its own needs at the expense of the ROC and to control the balance of power for what is in effect an UNSPECIFIED am't of time renders our right to democratic representation to a mere sham.
The fact that the Bloc is in effect an exclusive arm in which 90% of Cdn's can't find electable representation further adds to this deception.
Oh the corruption and from the Party that "Knows what Canadians want"
No matter what the outcome of this skullduggery , the West needs to mobilize itself into a viable "threat" all its own to insure its people are protected from the centrist carpetbaggers who are intent on pillage.
Good preparatory steps would be for the Western Premiers to assemble a comprehensive To-Do list starting with the creating of an economic hub, provincial police force, pension plans, taxation etc.
If by these actions we can impart a message of western autonomy and 'we mean business; then perhaps Quebec and the centrist scum minority leaders will think twice and if not then I say let 'em go or we're gone.
Either way its a step forward.
This has gone on for far to long!
As I paid my quarterly GST remittance the other day, it occured to me that the deficit is probably going to snowball very soon. With $45 oil, I'm counting on a slowdown. My biggest client announced a 50% reduction in its first quarter exploration budget.
Just for the sake of calculation, let's say my revenue will be cut in half.
These estimates will be for the first quarter of 2009: Instead of collecting $8000 GST, I'll collect $4000. My expenses should be cut in half as well, so instead of buying $9000 worth of fuel, we'll buy $4500. I've decided to repair 2 company vehicles, instead of trading them. Thats about $2500 in GST not paid, and likely another $5000 in other taxes. Wages will be cut by at least 30%, so income tax paid will drop by around $3000. I'm likely missing a few things, but so far the gov. is short at least $17000.
I'm small potatoes, with only 5 employees. That means the average, well paid, oilfield worker will be paying at least $3000 less tax per quarter. That's $12000 over the year, if this downturn drags on, and I believe it will. Now factor in the people who lose their jobs, and go on EI.
Royalties on $45 oil won't do much to cover the big expenditures planned for the west. Infrastructure upgrades will stay on the shelf, so there go hundreds of construction jobs.
So, this $30 billion to stimulate the economy is coming from where? We're more likely to end up $100 billion in the hole if these bandits take over.

This is but a preview of what is to come. When the 3-headed monster takes power, we will be subject to Doom And Gloom stories about the state of the nation's finances. We will be told there is a huge deficit, and that the Conservatives lied about it. We will be told it is all the Conservatives fault, that it was only their reckless, ideological policies that caused it. Therefore the monster will be excused from running deficits to "stimulate the economy", because the country was in deficit already. The MSM will relay this story obediently, Liberal propaganda machine that they are.
Given enough time - 3-6 months, I figure - the MSM will lull Canadian voters back into an apathetic slumber. "It's all right, the Liberals are back in power now, the evil Conservatives are gone... You Love Big Brother."
The coalition needs to be defeated NOW!
Posted by: Ian in NS at December 3, 2008 5:48 PMThis reminds me of high school. There's always one girl with a huge chest, tiny waist, small ankles and, usually, blonde hair. Guys line up like its the Soviet union vodka outlet in Vladivostok when a new train has dropped off some Smirnoff.
The guys all swear up and down that they're dating her for her "personality", beautiful eyes (like if she had three they'd stay away) and wonderful way with people.
Ya right. You want to get your hands and teeth on those big knockers, boyz.
Alberta is the blonde, the surplus is the boobs and the JacquesJackBlocSchellac want the blonde in Confederation for her beautiful eyes.
Meanwhile, when they get her alone in the House of Commons she'll be handcuffed to the door and JacquesJackBlocShellac will each take their turn with sloppy seconds.
Posted by: Think of England at December 3, 2008 5:53 PMIan,
The one item that this pathetic coalition was very clear on was the need for a stimulus package. That is the one central policy that it hinges on.
The Bloc's support is contingent on trainloads of loot for Quebec via this stimulus package. If they don't get it, they will pull the plug on the coalition. It literally will not matter if the Liberals and NDP claim they suddenly can't afford it.
The Bloc will lose very little by participating in an election. The Liberals have painted themselves into a corner here.
