viia email;
One might want to ask where Gary Doer is right now.... He apparently advised the Federal NDP on campaign advice prior to the most recent federal election.... And... He apparently has worked well with the PMSH....And...
As the longest serving premier in Canada you would think that he has some capital to spend on bringing everyone together....
Oh one more thing... He uses federal equalization payments like they are candy.
Manitoba is not as ungrateful as other provinces.
Posted by: Ryan at December 2, 2008 6:46 PMDoer was on CJOB this morning and is taking a neutral line. I'll do what's best for Manitobans no matter who's in power.
He has no opinion.
End quote.
Posted by: Shere Khan at December 2, 2008 6:49 PMRight on Kate. I just heard that "red" Gary has moved into the old Civil Defence bunker in Shilo with his team of Winnipeg Free Press editors, the CEO of Manitoba Hydro, and Al Gore.

Fast foreward to the 12 minute mark and hear for yourself.
Posted by: Shere Khan at December 2, 2008 6:55 PMErrr, make that Dec. 2...
Posted by: Shere Khan at December 2, 2008 6:59 PMGordon Sinclair, Winnipeg Free Press hack extraordinaire, was dishing today about how Gary Doer is being "rumoured" for the CEO of the Canadian Human Rights Museum....Winnipeg's version of the movie Heaven's Gate or maybe Ishtar.
In other words, Gary probably leaked it to him. Until the Black Rod follows up with his striptease on Doer's (ahem) female issues, The Teflon Blockheater (even at -40, he'll turn over) has the smallest package in the Western Premier executive washroom when it comes time to unzip and drain the coffers so to speak.
Doer may be forced before he can parachute to an NGO to actually take a stand, something that his political calculus in Winnipeg and Manitoba just doesn't take into account.
BC, Alta, Sask are maneuvering the tank turret to tell Canada's Sloppy Seconds (Jack, Scream Dion and Gilles "Little Mao" Duceppe and Dizzy Lizzy Mae) that the revenue tap isn't unconditional.
Doer will continue to hide under his desk, mouth platitudes and try to ride out the clock.
Tic, talk, Tic, talk, Tic,.....
Posted by: Manitoba Moose at December 2, 2008 6:59 PMI also heard that interview on CJOB. I believe that he's putting his NDP allegiances ahead of what's best for his province.
Such is the same with so many Liberal hacks out here in B.C. They're a shameful lot! One such woman called into CKNW today and said, "I'm totally in support of the Coalition. Let's face it, with only 37% of the vote, Harper received NO mandate from the people!"
To this I now can only ask one question: "Do tell me, are you more mathematically or historically challenged?"
Posted by: Robert W. at December 2, 2008 7:00 PMTHREE CHEERS! for Jack Layton (the GIANT KILLER)
From my perspective, Jack Layton has been the best for Canadian Politics in the history of this country.
He will, I believe, before the next election have achieved what no other political party could. But will also have done it three times over.
DESTROYED! The Liberal Party of Canada, bringing it to its knees, by sucking in Dion to create a legacy and to be PM (maybe)
DESTROYED! The PQ by sucking in Duceppe, in fact, now they have to call in Parizeau to save the day. Good Luck.
Destroyed his own party, but then again who cares.

breaking news re: count iggy...
"Bullshit", said one Liberal power-broker, who was quick to point out Dion
is tilting at Liberal history for the sake of a short stint at 24 Sussex.

Posted by: neo at December 2, 2008 7:03 PMI sent the following letter to the Governor General and my MP(CPC)
Govenor General Jean,
You need to stop this government charade.
Seven weeks ago the country voted on a new Parliament. We elected a minority Conservative government. You only delivered the Throne Speech a few days ago. Your Loyal Opposition approved of that speech and the plans contained within. Suddenly and without warning, the Opposition has decided to withhold their confidence.
The country has not had an opportunity to evaluate the political, economic, and social impact of the current goverment, or that of the new coalition.
We face serious economic troubles. Serious trouble requires serious decisions. Instead we have the clear losers of the peoples confidence playing political gamesmanship.
No doubt under constitutional law you can let them form a government. But is was only seven short weeks ago when the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc had the opportunity to present their program and the votors turned it down. Now, collectively and without the will of the people, they have decided to impose their ideas on the country. The people deserve to evaluate the implications of this imposed change.
Send this charade back to the people. If we agree that this sudden coalition has merit to deal with issues the country faces, then let the people elect this new government.
Posted by: john at December 2, 2008 7:04 PMI saw over on Warren K's site talk that Parizeau is going to endorse the coalition. The collapse will begin if that happens. The betting should then begin as to who will flee from the idea first. My money will be on Iggy...
Posted by: Gord Tulk at December 2, 2008 7:05 PMNeo... and Iggy took this long to realize Dion is nuts. I know its hard to understand him, but Iggy is supposedly a world renowned academic.
Posted by: Ryan at December 2, 2008 7:06 PMIs this an attempt by Smiling Jack to destroy the credibility of the Liberal Party? God, is Dion stupid or what.
Posted by: Phil at December 2, 2008 7:11 PMGary Doer -- my premier -- is Canada's top political shakedown artist. He sees his main responsibility as premier to extract as much cash from the feds as he can get; that, plus supporting any politically correct cause that it's in his interest to support (the rumour about his CEO-ship of the Human Rights Museum has a ring of absolute truth to it). He's a useless glad-hander who can't be relied on to take a principled stand on just about anything. We won't be hearing any more from him on this, only the major domestic political event of his lifetime.
Posted by: MJ at December 2, 2008 7:11 PMIts not hear we go again, Its here we go period. Eddy better have better than this. Evben NDP members at work where in shock. Not the happy kind. They know what he plans.
Posted by: Revnant Dream at December 2, 2008 7:13 PMThis thing is falling apart quicker than a wet paper towel.
*Gilles Duceppe is being called a traitor by separatists
*Quebecers are unbelievably pissed off at the possibility of a PM Dion
*Liberal MPs and former MPs are quietly and loudly expressing their disdain for a coalition with the Bloc
*Canadians are overwhelmingly against it on so many levels (anti-democratic, PM Dion, NDP government during economic crisis, Bloc holding balance of power)
*the admission that this deal came with a $1.3 billion bribe to Quebec a bribe of 6 senate positions for the Bloc
*Gilles Duceppe calling this good for Quebec sovereignty
*Western Canadian premiers pledging to do 'everything' to protect their economy
And this all happened TODAY! :)
Posted by: Phil at December 2, 2008 7:14 PMIggy actually has a great opportunity to score big with his party by walking away from the Coupalition.
It would make him a slam dunk with his own people as well as other Libs and show character and statesmanship for going against the Conservatives in future elections
Hey, after all, Doer's a Leftist, so he's supporting his commie comrades. Surprise, eh? Coming to the aid of the commie coalition like a good little Leftist... He won't survive the next MB election himself, thanks to his support of the Leftist Putsch.
Speaking of the Hard-Left coup d'etat, check out CTV's site and you'll see a poll asking who you support, the Conservatives or the Leftists.
Over 33,000 votes cast.
Conservatives: 65%
Leftists: 35%
So let's have an election. If the Leftists want to govern as one party, have them get elected to do so.
Canadians will NOT tolerate those frigging commie bums wresting power in a coup so they can do whatever they damn well please.
I have a feeling that the Left is going to be extremely sorry for a long time to come... they've really shown their true faces, finally. All of them at once, and the Liberals have destroyed all remaining pretense of being "moderate"/"centrist" and a "true federalist party", now that they're not only in bed with the communists and separatists, but are actually bangin' it up with them to beget a horrifying monstrosity upon Canada...
Let's abort that monstrosity!
Do pardon me if that sounded a bit harsh... but you get the point.
Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at December 2, 2008 7:16 PMThere's enough hypocrisy to go around here, let's through some at Wacko Jacko too.
For a party that always seems to appoint itself the leader of the moral and ethical high ground, despite the fact we all know better, Tally Jack has set an alltime low for unethical behaviour.
He will never live this down either
Posted by: DanBC at December 2, 2008 7:20 PMRe. Iggy- too late for him now. He supported the coup, and this proves his judgement, such that it may be, takes a back seat to his hardline partisanship and true, if hitherto hidden, Leftist ideology.
Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at December 2, 2008 7:21 PMMy lovely 24 yr old daughter just told me, "Mom, do you really think Canadians, are going to let this happen? Then they deserve what they get..."
These kids too, are out demonstrating! This is not over by a long shot!
Posted by: Bec at December 2, 2008 7:25 PMI think you will find Doer is pretty neutral, the guy isn't an idiot. To call him "NDP" is a joke, he's nothing like the federal NDP. I think he has even advised them to "lighten up" on the strong socialist ideals in the past.
I like him personally, but disagree with many things he does. His whole idea of a "green economy" is to suck on the teet of the rest of Canada, and severely lag behind average GDP per capita.
Funny how little (if at all) he brings up GDP per capita.
Posted by: allan at December 2, 2008 7:30 PMHow come no praise from Chavez or Magumba yet??Especially Muggie. He knows this would sent infaltion rates in Caunckistan well over his own 1/2 million% rate. Then he could claim some legitimacy for what he has down the breadbasket of Africa.
Posted by: Justthinkin at December 2, 2008 7:33 PMIggy is the weak man in all of this. If - as warren and others profess - he holds sway over the majority of LP MPs he can save the LP from itself - an endorsement by Parizeau is politcally lethal in much of the ROC (imagine if he were to endorse Stephen Harper and the CP).
This reminds me greatly of the Charlottetown (sp?) vote. The elites and the MSM were lined-up six-deep in support of the accord and the "yes" side spent an order of magnitude or more than the "no" side campaigning for it. Yet Canadians gave it a thumping "no" in 9 of ten provinces if memory serves.
Their primary objection to Meech/Charllottetown by the ROC outside of Quebec was that they gave veot power to the province of Quebec. Today, the coalition is prepared to give veto power over the federal government not to Quebec as a whole, but to Quebec separatists. Loyal Canadians (will) find that repugnant on the face of it and punish those who are behind such doings.
...
Dow Jones up 270, TSE down 78 at the bell - the only index that's negative in the Americas and Europe. Oil off 2.32. Toronto-centric non-coaltion phenomenon my Ass...
Posted by: Gord Tulk at December 2, 2008 7:35 PMYou don't get it,do you Gord. The TSX MUST fall and a long way,to give credenace to the Cabals claim of doing it for the Canadian economy, which,BTW,had a 1.6% GDP growth for October.
Posted by: Justthinkin at December 2, 2008 7:55 PMand what if this is true?
""I was just watching Mike Duffy Live on CTV, and learned that Pauline Marois, the leader of the provincial Parti Quebecois -- the sister party to the separatist Bloc Quebecois -- announced that part of Gilles Duceppe's price for supporting the coalition is an immediate $1 billion transfer to Quebec."
"On the same show, we learned of other coming pay-offs: separatist appointments to the Senate. There are 18 vacancies in the Senate, including four in Quebec. Not only are the Bloc in for patronage pay-offs, but Elizabeth May, the Green Party leader, was on Parliament Hill today, and she wouldn't deny that she, too, was offered a Senate seat."
How much longer can iggy stay with this group?
Maybe somebody should start a pool on the time that the Coalition of Liars and Thieves offically falls apart?
heh.
Just thinkin':
you missed my point and it's my fault.
Yes, the TSE should be shooting much higher as it is elsewhere. That it is not is not because the economy is weak - as some of the oppo parties claim - but because the markets are terrified of the Green Shift/shaft, Jack Layton as industry minister, May as environment minister and the bloc as master and commander.
Today and yesterday the TSX - exclusive of the global situation may have lost more market value because of this coalition threat than the 30 billion bailout these hoods want to do.
Posted by: Gord Tulk at December 2, 2008 8:08 PMDoer is as useless as tits on a bull when it comes to anything but feathering the NDP nest in MB.
He's a union shop steward with a province to play the victim game in and the taxpayers to foot the bill.
I repeat useless as tits on a bull.
Can't Doer is useless as a leader but he's a shrewd political animal. He knows his NDP government would bear the brunt of the backlash if he were to speak up for Vladimir Illyich Layton.
My prediction? He'll wait, and if the coalition looks like it's going to fail, he'll then speak up against it.
Posted by: Yukon Gold at December 2, 2008 8:28 PMMust say have never been a fan of Doer as in my opinion he is more Don'ter than anything. Always wanting more tranfer (welfare) payments from rest of west while preaching how he is much more "green" than them and would/could do everything so much better if he only had more of other peoples' money, typical NDP drone. He don't and didn't seem to contribute anything to the countries coffers but is quite willing to help his "tree" heroes by Don'ting again.

That's 1.3 billion, Gord, but who knows what the final tally will be.

I know I live in Sask. the only people almost as low are Liberals.. the good news: any Party that joins with the NDP dies.. check out the Sask. Liberal Party
Posted by: northernfarmer at December 3, 2008 12:30 AMMy Premier, my 'Doer' has consistently demonstrated that he the standard bearer for "ideology-light". Rarely willing to take a principled stand, Premier Doer's irrational fidelity to political pragmatism has seen our province cut adrift in a sea of mediocrity. The man is incapable of autonomous action - everything he does is vetted by a small-minded insular group of Kool-aid drinkers who believe Gary is the second coming of Tommy Douglas. Out of touch with the common man, Doer's advisers are there to shield him from any hint of dynamism. Preferring to market test every government policy position first; they have crushed the hope some of us had that we would one day see progressive legislation in Manitoba.
Here in Manitoba: Blandness rules.
