Thanks, Kate. Gotta laugh when you can.

I doubt the putsch will be stopped. Harper must start selling now with an eye to the medium term. He must particulary refute the lie that this thing was only hatched over the weekend in response to Harper's "blunder". When in fact the NDP and the Separatists cobbled it together shortly after the election. If it hadn't been the subsidy excuse it would have been something else.

Let the triumvarate of venality high five, punch the air, bray, crow, and generally act like gloating adolescents. Grave consequences in the medium and long term are coming as sure as day follows night. Particularly for the Liberals.

If the cabal fell apart before they could swap out Dion for Iggy/Rae and resulted in a Harper majority I would ask God for nothing else the rest of my life.

"Conservatives use deficit as excuse to cuts"

Now, at 40 years of age, I can say that I have officially heard it all. Using tought economic times as a reason to be fiscally prudent is somehow a bad thing, according to the opposition party's.
The NDP government in waiting, the Liberals are just window dressing, wants to run a 30 BILLION dollar deficit to bailout failing corporations in Ontario and Quebec and expect Western Canadians to pick up the tab. There are many reasons the people of Saskatchewan have overwhelmingly rejected the NDP in the last three federal elections. I just wish the rest of Canada would do the same.
I hate to say it, but perhaps the West will have to show Quebec how seperation is done.

That looks like a movie ad for Armageddon II.

"They came from Toronto" ... a horror show indeed, with many alien life forms,

The Igg ... it took human form.

Death Rae ... avoid looking in his eyes.

Lay-tun ... one nebula was not enough

but crazed with power, they joined forces with the Dark Lords of Quebec,

Dion ... his mortal head wound healed

Duceppe ... the Master of the Lost Realm

together, these five swore to fight

Lord Harper, he of the stern visage.

Et tu, Prentice?

I remember a few years back, when the country I was born was experiencing some political trouble (like going through 5 presidents in a couple of weeks) the CBC lady reading the news could not contain the laughter.
It is sad to see this happening to the country I choose to escape the banana republic mentality. Very sad indeed.

I agree with you about the Senate and the Supreme Court Joe Molnar. PMSH cannot leave those holes for the 'Troika of Vultures' to fill with the likes of Dizzy,Lizzy Maaah.

Ann, this was cooked up on an old ash tray in a non smoking bathroom (they all are non smoking in PC Canada) propped up on a filthy, plugged urinal; long before the Budget update was presented. Pock Punk Jacko and the scaly fishy Blochead had already agreed to a 'coup d'etate' over anything. Ding Dong Deyawn and his Dopes are only window dressing - they are 'seat fillers' at the feast of filth. Ding Dong will have no power, he is just a Stoolie for the real Traitor and his side kick.

Whatever unfolds, PMSH has my 100% support - and I will be proving that by sending the Conservatives the tax dollars I will not send to an unelected Trio of Greed. They have broken the law, they are leading by example so I plan to follow through.

The Liberano website is written in Franglefhone - the native language of Deyawn - everything is in order in his mess of a mind.

Kate, latest rumor has it that Three Stooges Government in Waiting already has a blessing of Barrak Obama, US President in waiting. Allegedly new Ambassador of Three Stooges Government contacted the White House trying to secure audience with President Obama only to be told that this dreaded G.W. Bush was still there. Plans for televised meeting betwen Obama and Three Stooges in Oval office had to be postponed until some time next year as G.W. Bush refused his permission to use of Oval Office on emergency basis, even on a weekend, despite the gravity of political crisis in Canada.

That may come to pass in B.C. Many ridings swing back and forth from NDP to Conservative, but we don't take kindly to sell outs.

For what it is worth here is the text of an email I sent to the Governor General:

1 December 2008

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean
Governor General of Canada
Rideau Hall
1 Sussex Drive
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A1

Excellency:
I am writing to ask that if the Government falls you dissolve parliament and send Canadians to the polls. Please do not allow the coalition that is supported by the seditionists of the Bloc Quebecois to have a say in how our country is run unless that coalition first faces Canadians at the polls. I ask you to think of the men and women of our Armed Forces who serve under you, and have lately made so many sacrifices for you. To give our country over to those that wish to destroy it would be an affront to those who serve Canada and have sworn an oath of allegiance to you.

Sincerely,

I copied my MP, The PM, leaders of the 3 opposition parties, and the Queen.

As I'm sure it has been for many here, these past few days have been an emotional rollercoaster for myself. I've done some serious thinking and it is high time I got some things off my chest.

First of all, to the LPC, NDP, Bloq and CPC.....a pox on ALL your f*cking power-hungry houses.
What selfish, divisive, irresponsible behavior from ALL our leaders in a time when we need maximum stability in government. Despite all the rhetoric, politicians from the right and left have far more in common than not.

This crisis is a prime example of what I have been saying for over a year now. Partisanship will eventually divide and destroy this country. It seems to be happening even faster than I feared.

I supported Harper right from the Reform days but I could not bring myself to vote for him this last election......and I was right. His reckless and needless mean-spirited partisan gameplaying has set in motion events that may very well destroy this country.

As gut-wrenching as I find the probability of these utopian socialists further damaging and destabilizing the country, there is one simple fact that keeps me from participating in the hatefest.

Like it or not, THIS IS the democratic system untold Canadians have died to protect. Throwing around words like traitor and treason is simply incorrect, unless of course you are referring strictly to Duceppe and his followers.

And to those who have wasted everyone's time on these threads responding to trolls.....shame on you. I have yet to see an intelligent thought on the subject from one of these hardcore partisan idiots worthy of a reply.

As usual, Kate, I thank you for the space to air my views.

I just do not know HOW anybody can blame Stephen Harper for this witche's cauldron brew cooked up by Witch Jack, Witchipoo Dion and Witchette Duceppe. They want power and they will make a deal with the devil to get it. Liberals are always Liberals. They think they have a RIGHT to govern. What they have is a case of greed led by Jack Layton who just cannot wait to get his hands on 24 Sussex. If anybody thinks Dion could run anything, Layton has some swampland for ya.
The ONLY person NOT to blame for the witches conniving is Stephen Harper. I sent them some money AND joined the party. Never in my life been a member of a political party. UNTIL NOW! Jack, Stephane and Gilles HAVE to go!!
We JUST had an election. They didn't like the outcome and now are trying to hijack the whole thing so they can spend tax dollars ( 30 BILLION??) at a time when cool heads and some sense are called for. Stephen Harper and the Conservatives are governing just right but those greedy whiners want 'stimulus' . The only 'stimulus' they ought to get is Harper's No.10's right up their Kazoos!

Posted by: Snowbunnie at December 2, 2008 4:19 AM

I just signed up for Stephen Taylor's RallyForCanada.ca cause. That then lead me to a Facebook group of the same name.

While there I noticed another group entitled "Support for the Progressive Coalition".

I nominate this name as THE most flagrant misuse of the word "Progressive" ever in the history of the world. Ever, Ever, Ever!!!

Imagine if Hitler had a modern liberal as his PR gal. Concentration Camps would then be "Progressive Sanitation Facilities For Making Germany a Cleaner Place".

Sometimes when I read what liberals write I wonder whether to feel more pity or disgust for them.

Posted by: Robert W. (Vancouver, BC) at December 2, 2008 5:03 AM

If I was Harper I would call their bluff. I bet that this coalition will note stand up for more than one vote in the commons. I am sure enough liberals will not show up for a vote that it will fall and we will then have another election and a conservative majority,

Will this coalition actually succeed in toppling Harper, or is all of this a whole lot of pointless political posturing?

Its made Canadian politics amusing, but is anything going to really change?

Posted by: Dim at December 2, 2008 7:48 AM

The MSM spin is in or this morning. At best it's both sides' fault evenly with arrogant Harper causing this (conveniently ignoring Jack's BQ plotting that began "a long time ago") and the Dip-Grits for getting into bed with the Separatists. And at worst, it's Harper's fault and he needs to be replaced as party leader and P.M.

It's time to start cancelling subscriptions to any rag that goes along with the Bloc helping to run Canada even if they dress it up as "Harper's to blame" mayonnaise in the sh*t sandwich.

Posted by: andycanuck at December 2, 2008 7:49 AM

We have to do everything in our power to get the message out to these three power hungry madmen who are attempting to stage this coup d'etat before our eyes. We don't need them, we don't want them, we did not ask them to take over our government.

This is a democracy, all three were rejected in their own right to take charge by the voters.

They really are madmen and dangerously inept and unfit to govern by these actions alone. No one in their right mind would interrupt a sitting government purely for their own gains in a critical time like this. Pure Bastards.

Bastards all three of them, devoid of any common sense or purpose beyond getting their grubby paws on power and our money to dole out to their pet socialist and Separatist projects.
Make no mistake, Duceppe is the big winner, Canada is the big loser in this Troika of Twits.

Wonder if it ever crossed their tiny minds just what this must look like around the world?

Let's all get out on the streets to rallies and inform the fools we do not want Dion running around the world representing us or Layton grabbing our money. Duceppe will sit there laughing his head off with his bags of goodies for Quebec he extracted for supporting the fools.

Apocalypse 2008 on the Hill, in Canada. Don't let it happen.

I have to agree mostly with Canadian Observer.

It doesn't matter about some web pages or some backdoor NDP/Block razmataz.

I voted for Harper but for him to do something this stupid in this economic climate shows a huge inability in judgement - a key attribute of leadership.

Everyone I know sees it this way (and I'm talking Conservatives here).

If an election is called - it will be a Liberal minority for sure.

The only thing that Harper can possibly do now is ask Dion to form the government and ward off this coalition and then have them work together on a plan. Otherwise, this coalition will form the government. This coalition just has to appeal to all Canadians for about 6 months (and may actually strengthen the Liberals hand - if they show that they can govern) and then I'm sure another election will be called.

Harper shot himself in the head - how stupid can you get.

And here's what's happening out west ---

.......................................Petition to our Provincial Government

Whereas, we the undersigned citizens of Western Canada, desire to escape the long-standing grievances which we have experienced by reason of the nation of Canada at the hands of its government at Ottawa;

And whereas we have considered after a long period of serious reflection, and every reasonable effort at accommodation and co-operation, that these long-standing grievances do not exist for mere light, transitory or partisan reasons, but are indelibly imposed on the nature and fabric of the Ottawa government and will never be remedied, no matter how often we compromise to suit its needs;

And whereas we have concluded that the grievances are so serious and permanent as to be no longer tolerable because they tax us without benefit or real representation, they oppress us with unnecessary laws and destroy our freedom beyond endurance;

Therefore we are resolved to seek to achieve a greater and more perfect unity in a nation of our own, chosen by us in our own referendum in each Western Canadian province when a majority of us so desire;

And whereas the Government at Ottawa has, through its own act entitled “An Act to give Effect to the Requirement for Clarity as set out in the opinion of the Supreme Court of Canada in the Quebec Secession Reference” and passed in the 2nd session of the Thirty-Sixth Parliament and assented to on June 29th, 2000 A.D.;

And whereas by this Act, the right of self-determination by any province is affirmed if the government of any province of Canada consults its population by referendum on any issue and it is entitled to formulate the wording of its referendum question;

And whereas the said Act requires both a clear question and a clear majority;

And whereas we the undersigned desire clarity to be established on both issues;

We, the undersigned citizens, hereby petition and demand of our provincial government as follows:

(1.) That immediately upon this petition being signed and delivered to the Premier by 10% of the population who voted in the last provincial election, the following question shall be put to all the electors of our provinces by a general referendum within 90 days of the ratification of this number of signatories to this petition by the Chief Electoral Officer of our province;

(2.) That to satisfy section 1(1) of the aforesaid Act, we hereby demand that the government of our province, in our legislative assembly, forthwith upon receipt of this petition duly signed by us, table in the legislative assembly, the following referendum question for consideration by the House of Commons at Ottawa, and thereafter put the following question to the people of our province for consideration in a referendum:

“Question: Do you desire our province to cease to be a part of Canada and become an independent sovereign nation state?”

(3.) That to satisfy the terms of Section 2(1) of the aforesaid act, our provincial government ratify, and we declare, that a clear majority shall consist of the number of 55% of all those persons who vote in the referendum to be held pursuant to section 1 hereof;

(4.) That the legislative assembly of our province formally adopt and enact the terms of this petition with no unnecessary modifications, to achieve the spirit and intent of this resolution and petition, which is to clearly express a clear majority in favour of secession of our province from Confederation as soon as legally possible.

We the undersigned free men and women of Western Canada hereby declare our solemn oath that we shall persevere by all peaceful means to escape the political economic and social oppression of the unjust system of government created by Canada and to create our own new nation by the democratic process of a constitutional convention for the creation of a nation, for the freedom of our descendants, and the preservation of our land and heritage and to this end we pledge our best efforts and our most sacred honour.

Keep watching the long game on this one. I am sure the Conservative war-machine is collecting every clip of everything said to justify this "Coalition."

It will point out the blatant lies of the NDP and Liberals (will Canadians care?) and that they had been planning this.

Watch for the PM to do something to destabilize the coalition immediately. I would guess that there is some discussion with some MPs who may not want to ride the ship to the bottom of the seas. All they need do on Monday is not show up, or not vote, or vote with the Conservatives.

Is anyone in the MSM even asking for details of the Opposition Plan? Let's see them print it in the media with more detail than "a $30 billion stimulus package." The MSM is failing to ask hard questions of the opposition parties as it is too busy salivating over the propects of gaining favour with a new administration. The Liberals were not the only ones in the wilderness. The press certainly has been!

I have faith that the PM is smart enough to get us out of this political jam.

Posted by: Geoff at December 2, 2008 9:36 AM

ccon - I repeat, to you and others who keep saying that 'this is Harper's fault'.

It isn't. Didn't you read the transcript of Layton's conference call? This putsch has been planned for MONTHS, between Layton and the Bloc, Duceppe. MONTHS. Got that?

The plan was to vote against a financial bill, ANY financial bill, to bring down the govt. Then, rather than an election, the plan was to form a coalitin with the Liberals, under Dion in particular, and insist on forming the government.

This could have happened at the February budget. Instead, Harper called their bluff and suggested a minor financial bill - now. And they jumped. What was this bill? Economy within the government. That is, you FIRST economize within the govt.

Harper proposed setting wages increases for the civil service to be equivalent to the wages increases that are normal in the private sector, about 1.5% per year. The civil service, in case you don't know, expects to get increases at least 3 times that of the private sector. The taxpayer, the taxpayer, the taxpayer..will foot the bill.
He asked them to accept this for two years.
And, he asked political parties to forgo expecting the taxpayer to fund them - and return to the old way, of getting donations from private individuals.

Well, the Liberals, NDP and Bloc have never been very good at getting their socialist buddies to fund them. The Bloc gets over 80% of its funds from the Canadian taxpayer! So - they screamed.

But - you must realize, this plan to take down the govt and insert a coalition rather than an election, was in the works LONG ago. And it would have happened in February.

I'm speculating but I think that the best thing to happen, and what Harper is counting on, is to have an election in January. He moved the budget up to January for this reason - to stop the coalition from its insanity as soon as possible, and put the question to the people.

Those people who say - our govt is run by the Confidence of the House are superficial. No 300 people have the right to set up our goverment as they choose. We didn't elect them to do that.

Our government is to be run as we, the people, choose. We elect ONE party to function as the government, and ONE party to function as the Official Opposition. If these parties want to operate as a coalition, then, this grouping must be put to the people.

We must have an election asap, and the NDP, Liberals and Bloc, must declare, as they now have done, that they see themselves as operating as one. We Canadians can decide whether we want that or not.

Posted by: ET at December 2, 2008 10:19 AM

Blame Harper for this fiasco? The facts don't fit.

First, we know that the Coalition of the Swilling was hatched well before Harper announced the closing of the swill in the subsidy trough. This policy was simply used as a pretext to kick back, though the kick was already well in motion.

Secondly, every poll showed that Canadians are in favour of scrapping the subsidies.

Logic, common sense, and decency, which have been dying a long, slow death in Canada, now seem to be in the terminal stage. The unholy alliance of the Liberals, NDP, MSM, and the traitorous Bloc will seriously damage this country and diminish the freedoms and integrity of its citizens.

Oh oh, Canada.

Since the Conservatives were sworn in with the first minority, the Liberals have been disrupting the Parliament, both in the House and the Senate. The House was treated to the sight of Liberal MPs running away from confidence votes, relying on the majority in the Senate to delay, alter, and otherwise obstruct government business.

While the Liberals held to a hope of regaining a majority in the next election, they held off of any non-confidence motion and raved at the evils of the Conservatives, preparing for the next election. And the polling numbers of the Conservatives kept rising.

They now know that they cannot win an election, and are falling back on modern age Liberal first principles; power first and only, by hook or by crook.

ET,

I read today's (actually yesterday's now) G&M editorial. Apparently, Harper signed an agreement with the Bloc to ditch the Liberals and ditch Martin. This tells me that agreements are a dime a dozen. What is troubling though is that someone tapped into a private conference call - this might be illegal - I don't think you can do this kind of stuff without a court order.

What is also troubling is that public financing is something that needs to be discussed with all parties. If reform is needed then everyone needs to be at the table to discuss and make recommendations and discuss how they would transition to a new privately funded system. Trying to ram something like that through is pure stupidity and it is irrelevant to the economic problems we face.

The Conservatives need to dump this dummy fast and bring in a a grown up guy/girl.
