Full Steam Ahead

Star Phoenix;

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan will require the equivalent of 32,526 direct and indirect positions during construction of capacity expansion projects over the next four years, says a company executive.

When expansion projects are complete at its Allan, Cory, Lanigan, Patience Lake and Rocanville operations in 2012, the company will be responsible for the creation of an additional 14,583 direct and indirect jobs in Saskatchewan, Wayne Brownlee, PotashCorp executive vice-president and CFO, said at a Canadian Club of Saskatoon luncheon Wednesday.

[...]

The company is spending nearly $6.5 billion to add 8.95 million tonnes of annual capacity to its potash mines -- including its Picadilly, N.B., operation -- over the next four years. It expects the new level of capacity to be fully ramped up by 2014. In Saskatchewan, this means an investment of $4.8 billion, said Brownlee, and in a difficult economic environment, the timing couldn't be better for the province.

I'd suggest sending out the unemployed auto workers but you have enough union/ndp hacks out in SK already.

Best to stick to unemployed newf fishermen.

"Brownlee says the company's finances are solid and it plans to fund the entire capacity expansion program itself."

This quote alone should make every conservative minded Canadian proud, Saskatchewanites especially proud.

Great news, and Potash is taking advantage of recent drops in labour and materials pricing to get it done.

Seeing those CAW types moan about needing subsidies, where responsible people look about for new skills or relocation - gives a good contrast to the difference in thinking among politico ideologies.

From my travels in the Great Flatland, I've found Those That Bleed Green are a pretty nice bunch who'd make good neighbors.

How bout storing nuclear waste in the abandoned caverns?

And the government buying the Big Three excess vehicles as a subsidy. Store em underground too.

Could also use that space for growing;
medical mary-jane
mushrooms
cucumbers
tomatoes
lettuce
what with all the excess power from windmills goin ta waste............

and how bout T.O.'s lack o landfill space?

If we don't make use of those holes under the stubblejumpers, it'll all collapse?

Way to go Brad Wall!!!

Saskatchewan is going to be the IT province, thanks to common sense voting finally turfing the NDP!

Do whatever you can Kate to make sure they don't make a comeback.

we in the centre of the universe (ontario) will send our unemployed auto workers out there, but only if you pay for their viagera needs:-))))

Posted by: GYM at November 27, 2008 2:08 PM

Hey GYM, better count on sending out some womens with that viageria. Ladies out west tend to like Smith & Wesson as their chaperones and are not too impressed with union types. Too many SGEU floating around already.

Way to go Brad Wall!!!

Potash Corp announces 32,526 new jobs, which pay $80,000 and better during construction and operation, and the CBC National and CTV National News last night talks about two Magna plants closing in Ontario with NO mention of PCS report. Not surprising.
Premier Brad Wall has done more in 12 months selling the opportunity in this Province to the world than the previous NDP administration did in the previous century. Don Knots did not know how to sell opportunity, only how to manage the 'down-trodden"
I think we have just touched the surface of the growth that is coming in Saskatchewan. Do not expect the Toronto centric media to mention , except maybe in passing, what is happening here. It is good news, and that does not fit with Toronto based national media types.
There actually is a world outside and west of the 407!

Great news for Sask. Take note ROC, what a differece a sensible government can make...and what an impact a GREAT Bog can have on local elections. I hope someone from the Sask. gov't is readimg here...You all owe Kate for this great success in my home province, she was undermining the cowardly, craven culvert long before the election was called.

Thanks to this market meltdown, Potash Corp is finally in a position where it's finally getting cheap enough to buy some shares. It's only trading at 7x earnings.
