Surely you jest.GISS and IPPC would NEVER use invalid info! Oh wait.
Posted by: Justthinkin at November 21, 2008 9:41 AMWell just got back from trying to get to my parents house to help them dig out. Arkona (Ont) received 72cm of snow last night. I have never seen that town so plugged full of snow from one snowfall and this early in the season. I never did find a spot to park and walk to my parents, and they are talking 20 more cm of snow before it ends.
(they better quit building windmills and build more coal plants )
I'll send a link to some pics Kate.
Posted by: mugs at November 21, 2008 10:14 AMhmmm... that anaerobic digester tank presented some pretty radical ideas.
the only way they could get it any closer was to put it on top of the flare.

Clearly shows that air conditioners significantly contribute to global warming.
Could be stranger, the other night on the news, a number of scientists who agreed that the discussion is over declared that all this global warming is pushing us towards a new ice age. The evidence for this was last year was one of the coldest winters in years for our area, but global warming is still all over the news, ergo, global warming creates ice age.
Maybe these scientists are just getting their theories from movies and are using the locations for their thermometers to help "prove" that the end of the world is near, anyone remember Day After Tomorrow? How about Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow (Check South Park for that one), I think we're at Two Days Before.
The Day After Tomorrow was based on a novel published in the mid '70s. Back then Global Cooling and the new ice age was the big deal. When they did the movie, they just added Global Warming part to the rest of the story, and that's what you get.
As for the anaerobic digester tank, it's normally heated up to 95F and throughout the day, the deocomposition process gives off lots of background heat.
Why they insist on putting these sensors on sewage plant is beyond me.
Posted by: BigFire at November 21, 2008 11:34 AMI suspect that the treatment plant grew up around the sensor. There seems to be a snasty habit of that kind of stupidity wrt weather sensors. Instead of relocating them, just accept lousy and tainted results.
This one is a classiv though. Ought to be on failblog.org
Posted by: AtlanticJim at November 21, 2008 2:20 PMA balmy 12F degrees here today w/wind chills of 6F. Alrighty then.
Posted by: iowavette at November 21, 2008 2:52 PMThe intro to surfacestations.org is one of the reasons this site is addictive. Using this data against west coast cousins is hilarious. Keep 'em coming, kid.
Posted by: iowavette at November 21, 2008 3:47 PMMan, that's even better than the barbecue one. Digester on one side, settling tank on the other, next to the flare tube. Awesome!
Posted by: The Phantom at November 21, 2008 4:20 PMJust watched a docudrama called "The Last Continent". A Canadian made sob story narrated by Donald Sutherland on a group of Quebecers spending a winter locked in the Antartic ice. Blaming global warming they showed how supposedly in mid winter that the pack ice didn't freeze. Sutherland was saying it was now August and the ice hadn't frozen yet but unless I am really wrong about this I believe it is 24 hours of darkness at that time in the Antartic yet it was daylight in their film and their coats were open!
I watched it with my wife who always calls me a sceptic and quit muttering through the movie so I showed her the Wikipedia ice extent pictures from 1979 to June 2008 and the ice pack as they noted has grown steadily over the last 30 years by .08%.
If you took Sutherland's word we are doomed and global warming, bad bad bad people, will kill us all shortly.
Oh, and just ignore that temperature gauge, its obviously an exception. Anyway they probably adjusted for the heat sources, I am sure of it.
Posted by: Dave at November 21, 2008 6:14 PMAgain!!! The reasonable person sees a clear pattern here... obviously, scientists placing temperature sensors near known heat sources... one must ask them, what are they doing? Are they just stupid and/or scientifically incompetent, or are they corrupt, cheating for Al Gore?
They might as well place a temperature sensor in the middle of a small, crowded field of burping, flatulent, pooping cows, to catch the constant, if perhaps slight, spikes in ambient temperature due to blasts and wafts of relatively greater heat... it only takes a little difference overall to skew the data in Al Gore's favor...

We resent your use of the word, "invalid", which might offend the physically disabled. Better choices might be, "factually incorrect", "bogus", "dishonest" or "completely made-up stuff". Please note that you are being given choices here, we are not imposing anything upon you.
Thanks for your anticipated future complia^H^H^H^H^H^H^H cooperation.

What a fool! Air conditioners cool the air, not heat it up!
Sorry, Chris, couldn't resist.
Posted by: PiperPaul at November 21, 2008 10:53 PMWhen I first saw the picture at wattsupwiththat.com and before I read the description. I thought the sensor was on the methane pipe. the box when the pipe changers from yellow to gray.
I would not put it pass GISS from now putting it there and then say they could not control it but still use it as a poster child for AGW
