Posted by: old white guy at November 19, 2008 3:40 PMThey say that Bill Clinton was America's first black president. Let's see...Bill Clinton was born in 1946, while Obama was born in 1961. Bill would have been 14 at the time that Ann Durham was impregnated.
I wonder...

This is going to sooooooooooooooo entertaining.
Just glad I'm not paying for it.

"is Obama recreating the Clinton era?"
I bloody hope so. The only thing Clinton did in 8 years was the interns.
The best you can expect from any government is zero. Anything they actually do normally subtracts from their record.
The problem we have now is that the government isn't devided. We have an all Dem government with no checks. Bad things happen when one party isn't held in check by the other.
Posted by: Warwick at November 19, 2008 4:08 PMSo wehn the first hissy fits and political infighting starts, as it will with the Clinton crew, we will see what BO is made of. It was supposed to be no drama Obama.....we shall see
Posted by: Stephen at November 19, 2008 4:10 PMWarwick:
It may be "all Dem," but the government isn't going to get a free ride because the Dems do not have a supermajority in Congress or the Senate. That means that Republicans can still block Dems' initiatives if they really want to via (for instance) filibuster. This would explain why Obama was playing nice to McCain earlier this week, I believe — he can't railroad his legislation through, and needs the co-operation of some Republicans.
I suspect that it'll be four years of Dems trying to tell themselves that they're doing a good job while their approval ratings tank. And the 2010 mid-terms will see a House and Senate that becomes more balanced again.
Given that Obama received less votes in many battleground states than did John Kerry and still won (because McCain received far less votes in those same states than did GWB four years ago, due to Republicans staying home in droves), it can already be said that this is the best Democratic U.S. government that the Republicans could buy.
Pretty sad, that.

Thanks Kate. Now I am going to have nightmares about the man jumping out of a dark alley and stealing my wallet. Then preaching that he is just doing it to spread the wealth. I don't get it, several posts have stated that the Conservatives in Canada are on the left side of the Dem's. If doing any reading in the past 4.5 months about the history of the Dem's they are up to the Lieberals any day and then some.

I agree, I haven't seen any evidence of Dem's being to the right of the Con's, except perhaps on social issues. It seems to me that our Lib's are mentors for the Dem's.
Posted by: Indiana Homez at November 19, 2008 5:09 PMI have been concerned that Obama is nothing more than a front man for special interest groups. My impression is that both the Dems and the Republicans for the most part represent their friends, rather than the American people. Still, I hesitated to draw any firm conclusions about Obama, until today. The Ottawa Citizen today had a story about Obama's coming out strongly in favour of fighting Global Warming with lines like "biggest crisis of our time", "sea levels are rising", "drought", "no longer any doubt about the science" blah, blah. I actually thought that some of the lines were about two-years old, as the views of many on this issue have changed significantly given new information and most of us have not seen sea levels rising. So what it confirmed for me is that Obama does indeed represent the special interest groups. The AGW people might want to feed him some new lines so that the "hidden" agenda is a bit less obvious.
Posted by: LindaL at November 19, 2008 5:16 PMWho else thinks Eric Holder looks exactly like the sharp dressed black cop on Barney Miller?
Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at November 19, 2008 5:27 PMWow, that's impressive work. Freaky, but impressive.
Posted by: Kim Priestap at November 19, 2008 5:39 PMKathy, LOL! It was Ron Glass who played "Ron Harris". All they need now is "Fish". Yup change is coming to Washington, Barney Miller and the Clinton Administration. That's going backward how many years?? Anyway, "Statler and Waldorf" will be busy for the next four years :).
Posted by: Sounder at November 19, 2008 5:44 PMI agree that Obama is looking more and more like someone who will cater to lobbyists just like everyone else, but to say that the only thing Clinton did was the interns is pretty silly...there's this trade deal, called, what was it again, NAFTA? Yeah, NAFTA...seems to have come in pretty handy for us if you ask me.
If anything, my hope is that those Clinton insiders will give him a good smack in the face if he ever tries to touch NAFTA with a ten foot pole.

I was just gonna post that!
Hey bar_jebus, NAFTA was negotiated by George H. W. Bush, and an agreement in principle was signed by him in October of 1992, and the final document was signed in December of 1992, subject to ratification by the legislature, which happened in 1993. Clinton only signed the two supplements in 1993, and had very little to do with NAFTA. Wanna try again?

Correction on your first point. Condi wasn't the first black secratary of state; Colon Powell was.
It would be hilarious ...... if it were not so galling to see these Dem hangers on return to power.
Expect plenty of lawsuits and investigations down the road.

LindaL,
Your Ottawa paper needs as new Editor, that is not what Oboma said... The Climate Change words were used (the sleaze factor) That idiot, Obama, does not understand that AGW is the root cause of the Economic woes.
The Scientific Consensus claim is a fraud, at what point will the MSM realize that theory that has a Consensus is in fact a Scientific “LAW”. Einstein’s “theory of relativity” has not made the grade (still a theory) but AGW has… Nonsense
The Dow will be @ 3400 by Jan 20 unless Bush unleashes a DOJ racketeering investigation of Gore and his fellow Carbon gangsters.
Even a Class Action Civil lawsuit, in any Circuit but the 9th, alleging racketeering by the environmental movement may cause the market to stabilize.

Posted by: Grook at November 20, 2008 10:18 AMPhilip Shaw...you have voiced somthing that has been on my mind. I would really like to see some whirlwind activity from Bush and that he stirs up a few storms with his (however limited) power in the WH over the next few months.
He's been quiet. He knows too much.
Looking forward to the possibility.
