Last evening a request landed in my inbox;
Dear Kate,I have attached two flyers for the UNIFEM Canada Gala event. This year's winner is Louise Frechette, former Deputy Secretary of the United Nations. Our Honorary Chair for the event is Carolyn McAskie, former Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations.
The Gala will take place in Ottawa on November 20, 2008. The start time is 18h00.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could mention the event in your
blog.
UNIFEM is the United Nations Development Fund for Women. The global branch
is based in New York. Please see: http://www.unifem.org/There are branches or offices of UNIFEM throughout the world, including Canada. UNIFEM Canada is run by volunteers to raise awareness of women's issues in Canada and issues facing women throughout the world (sexual violence, forced marriages, rape as a weapon of war, inequality in the education system and so on ).
You mean this Louise Frechette from the Volker report?...there was "a systematic attempt by the Deputy Secretary-General, Canadian Louise Frechette, to block results of audits into the Oil-for-Food program from the Security Council".
Of course, there weren't any disadvantaged women in Saddam Hussein's Iraq, so what's a little corruption between friends?
Ah. Just another leftist thing, then. Deluded women thinking they really stand up for women... all the time, rather than only when it suits the Far Left's agenda. Blah.
Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at November 10, 2008 9:41 AMIt's great that they got their mention in your blog.
Posted by: glasnost at November 10, 2008 9:53 AMDoes this mean that your blog is high on the list of 'must read' blogs for feminists?
Kate, you little devil you.
Heh.

This year's losers:
"Suicide bomber kills three at Iraq hospital
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
BAGHDAD - A female suicide bomber blew herself up at a hospital west of Baghdad Sunday, killing three people and injuring five others.
Police and hospital officials say two women and a 10-year-old girl were killed in the attack in Amiriyat al-Fallujah near the city of Fallujah, 65 kilometres west of the capital."

"Frechette accepted partial responsibility on behalf of the U.N., stating in a February speech that the initial findings had "identified a weakness in our management system that we intend to correct."
I imagine that would be burying the evidence a little deeper.

no drinks for dinks.
Again thanks Kate. You are a well of information. I was reading a previous blog on your site and tabbed the * and after reading the article, I read the comment section and run across the [google = trilateralcommission]. Very interesting information. I have heard of this mention thru a VHS tape, "concerning an American citizen in jail without a trial", in 1994. Thanks Kate.
Posted by: Merle Underwood at November 10, 2008 11:01 AMBummer, my pick for the award would have been that little scamp Louise Barbour for all the help she has been to the women of Israel.
Posted by: glxi390 at November 10, 2008 11:10 AMWho was Louise Frechette trying to protect by her attempts at blocking those audits concerning the Oil for Food Scandal?
Why is Uncle Moe hiding in China?
Could it be that pesky INTERPOL warrant?
Posted by: Bruce at November 10, 2008 11:11 AMI have a dream ... that MSM will Wake The Heck up and do the honorable thing; either "CHANGE" or die off; at least gracefully.
The media is harmful to all and at the same time extremely beneficial to certain "groups". They have divided us by putting their deemed 'despised ones' on their permanent 'shit' list.
And yet, I know I prefer to HAVE to struggle as the "hated ones" instead of being the mindless, fact less, shallow, "beloved ones".
Does make my "back strain", but I'll be stronger for it, even more so now, because of people like Kate.
Thanks.
I have just emailed Claudia Rossett at NRO hoping she would comment on Louise Frechette as Claudia has written extensively on Louise and her interference in the UN OIL for FOOD issue including Maurice Strong et al.
Posted by: Joe Molnar at November 10, 2008 11:51 AMSo is there any way to find out how much $$subsidy these morons are getting from us taxpayers ?
They are too stupid and socialistic to pay their own way, they must have a lip-lock on some public teat.
Anyone know ?
Posted by: Fred at November 10, 2008 12:02 PMLouise Frechette and Maurice Strong -- google them.
The United Nations may have been founded with good intentions but it has been hijacked by the Nutcases. Many of them are from Canada.
Posted by: ron in kelowna at November 10, 2008 12:12 PMWell, the goals of UNIFEM are laudatory, but I agree the selection of Louise Frechette for an award is questionable. The kinds of people who get awards at these affairs are often not the most deserving. At the very least, Frechette is nothing more than a self-serving bureaucrat.
Posted by: LindaL at November 10, 2008 12:15 PMAnyone know ?
Posted by: Fred at November 10, 2008 12:02 PM
Very good post Fred. I would sure like to know how much?.
Posted by: Merle Underwood at November 10, 2008 12:18 PMAs soon as I see the phrase " raise awareness", my blood runs cold.
The eventual banning of smoking, trans-fats, cell phone use, mandatory helmet wearing for bicylists
and a host of other micro-managed laws were first
started by those who wished to merely "raise awareness".
If these Fembots really want to make a difference, they should roll up their sleeves and get down and dirty in the trenches instead of galavanting around at "galas" and the like.
They are doing nothing more than pissing away taxpayers money.I will however make time to attend the UNIMASC gala when it comes around.
"So is there any way to find out how much $$subsidy these morons are getting from us taxpayers?"
Perhaps Tonda McCharles, Jane Taber, Joan Bryden, Susan Riley or even VanDuesen from CBC have the answer to that question for us here.
Let's not hold our breath waiting for that lot to divulge to dig for that kind of info.
Louise Frechette was once Deputy Minister at the Department of National Defence.
The less said about her, the better...
Posted by: JJM at November 10, 2008 3:27 PMOne shouldn't be surprised at the Machiavellian actions of UN appointees or staffers. Going back to the start, Alger Hiss was tasked by Roosevelt to create the UN. As a Charter member of the CFR, and a Soviet spy, (as it turned out), Hiss thinly disguised the soviet model in creating the UN Charter and Constitution. Looking at the UN charter, it reads as a collectivist document.
The history of the UN is a story of ongoing and brazen corruption at the highest levels. Within only a few links, one can find a connection between Saddam Hussein, Nicholas Sarkozy, Mo Strong, Paul Desarnais, Paul Martin and Jean Chretien.
Then one adds in Canada’s major international embarrassment, Mo Strong, (Fox News), (Ronald Bailey), (Ezra) to the mix, and this brings in the Red Chinese and both North and South Korea to the mix!
Fundamentally, the purposes of the UN are to promote communism, and to embarrass democracy. The fact that most democracies in the world have allowed greedy arrigating charlatans’ to rise to positions of power within their governments high enough to jump into the UN trough and fulfill their part in the UN mission, speaks to our own shortcomings.
Posted by: IanV at November 10, 2008 5:03 PMThey haven’t the guts to invite real Women with opinions, not dogma to there little feel good coffee klatch. Just standing up for free speech does more for Women Kate, than a multitude of these ballerina feminists. Not to mention the real courage to Blog & practice your convictions by example.
Posted by: Revnant Dream at November 10, 2008 5:15 PMWhat IanV said!
There's a best-seller in the works for anyone with strong nostrils and stomach, who is willing to document UN marxism, hypocrisy, corruption and self-serving in a lucid, reader-friendly style.
If someone does undertake this rewarding task, there should be a Canadian chapter on the maple striped rodents who inhabit the rarified heights of Turtle Bay. These vermin need full exposure to the light of day.
Posted by: felis corpulentis at November 10, 2008 5:51 PMAppears to be no end to the Fems-for-Money programs in the UN. With The Obamasiah in the Big Chair, the chowing down at the pork table will be so loud, you won't be able to hear the real plaintive calls for help.
Posted by: Skip at November 10, 2008 6:22 PMA good bit of work, there, Kate. Perhaps some people local to the event might want to go.....
Posted by: RW at November 10, 2008 6:30 PMSay what you will about President Obama, I rather suspect the first time his duty as Head of State of the US conflicts with UN imperatives, the latter will lose out...
Posted by: JJM at November 10, 2008 7:33 PMJJM...one of us has the wrong impression of Obama.
I suspect the spinelessness and distorted priorities of the UN, mixed with their ineffective plans and useless meddling will 'compliment' whatever Obama has planned.I don't see a power struggle with that combo.
If I'm wrong you can be the first to rub it in, ok?
Kate...is that a result of your nomination for the Best Feminist Blog?
Why do you think Brown and Bush are trying to promote one-world-ism in such a panic? For all of the other faults the Obomanation has, letting EUrotrash, (or anyone else), tell him what to do isn't one of them. We're gonna get fascism, but it won't be the EUroversion or even the Russian or Venezuelan version, it'll be home-grown.
The good thing is, the first people to object will be the Congressional Democrats, they'll splinter along ideological lines, the hard left wanting Soviet style, mid left wanting green,(Algore) style, and the moderate blue-dogs voting with the Republicans! There is no love lost between the elected Dems and Obama, his support is the great unwashed 49 million non-taxpayers, and lots of these haven't bothered to vote before, so the sitting Dems feel no obligation to them.

Posted by: James at November 10, 2008 9:37 PMIanV. Well put. The US is going to do a hard turn too the true left, and soon. I think however you maybe forgetting to add Obama's self styled "Blue Eagle" citizen awareness program, or whatever it is his followers are calling themselves to your list.. Love the " We do our part" bit, or the "Paying higher taxes is doing your part" This will be a full on "Wilson / FDR" era fascist/progressive movement, won't have the violence, will have the same burning intensity of crazy. Perfect chance to expand the government on vast swaths of the economy, at the same time activating the radical militarization of the social activist nonsense under the banner of nationalism. George Orwell wrote" Bully-Worship, under various disguises, has become a universal religion" Doesn't seem to far from where Obama is now to me.
Posted by: 1talkinghead at November 10, 2008 10:09 PMYou have to remember that the power in the Democrat Party is all white. They aren't about to give up their power to the likes of Jesse Jackson, Farrakhan OR Obama without a fight.

Posted by: ok4ua at November 11, 2008 1:08 AMfelis corpulentis - in answer to your proposal to a writer who might like to write a book...someone already did; in fact, she wrote many. Her name is Taylor Caldwell. She had many books on the best seller list in the 1970s. Probably the best known is "Captain and Kings". You can sometimes find her books in used books stores. IMO, the best book was "Pillar of Iron" about the Cicero (the Roman Senator).
Posted by: Jema 54 at November 11, 2008 1:12 AMLouise Frechette? Henry Morgentaler? What next, a posthumous Nobel Peace Prize for Hitler?
Posted by: irwin daisy at November 11, 2008 8:21 AMJema 54:
Thanks for your post. I happened to come across and read "Captains and Kings" last summer. It was a rollicking good read, but the expose of the one worlders was very high level and entirely fictional. What I am looking for - and it may very well be out there somewhere - is a series of real world stories documenting the corruption and marxist agenda in a unified thematic way and written in a style, perhaps somewhat polemical, that will engage a large readership.
Or is the political correctness in that place so entrenched that no former insider or investigative "journalist" dares expose it?
