Tony Blair's Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch, and the time has come to call in the Luftwaffe;

In his annual speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet, Brown -- who has spearheaded calls for the reform of international financial institutions -- will say Britain, the United States and Europe are key to forging a new world order.

In a related "please resume bombing" development;
Britain's environment secretary has sparked controversy with a list of proposed new rules that could mean jail time for pet owners who walk dogs on hot days.

This may be the straw that broke the camels back in England. What idiots would do this in a Nation of pet lovers is crazy. The haughtiness of the Liberal Fascists have no limit it seems. Perhaps their just softening up Britain to be Dog free for Islam. Watch for the “no Pigs” allowed injunctions next.
Seriously folks the saner authorities of a different but more sensible age, used to put people like this in mental institutions. They where right to do so.
Now these whacko’s' run governments.

My parents came from Britain...both of them served in WWII, my father in the RAF and my mother in Naval Intelligence. My paternal grandfather, in WWI, had his ship torpedoed, and he was killed...my father was 18 months old.

My maternal grandfather had his ship torpedoed and sunk in WWII...in the lifeboat that he commanded, he kept that part of his crew alive in an open boat 300 miles off of the French coast for 6 weeks (all others in the other three lifeboats perished)...for that, he was knighted and awarded the Order of the British Empire.

My father, during WWII, was flying a Mitchells bomber which crashed...he was horribly burned, spent over two years in hospital, and when released, even though he didn't have to, went back into active service.

I had two uncles who died after the Japanese overcame Hong Kong...one in the fighting, one after being tortured in prison camps.

My question...after the personal sacrifices that my family, and many other families, have made in the defence of Britain...is this the freaking best they can offer???

What a f#%&ing disgrace...

I can recall few international leaders who have sickened me as much as Gordon Brown. This current speech of his takes the cake.

"The need to reassert faith in democracy". What the heck? Why does he think people in Britain have no faith in democracy? Because he and his ilk have been denying the people's will for the last decade: the NHS, immigration, creation of a vast welfare and police state, corruption to feed the rich, being forced into the EU, and on and on.

This guy is a disgrace to a disgraceful job.

The heart of Britain has been destroyed by this asshole and his new Labour colleagues. Policy after ignorant policy, lie after lie, like the Chinese water drop torture.

I'd like to meet this guy and spit in his face.

But being British, and being proud of being British in Britain is considered a bad thing, not welcoming to the newcomers and all that.

Britain being Britain it is going to take someone from the "ruling class" to put a stamp of legitimacy on the reaction. I dont see who for the moment, as Mr Camaeron, nice guy that he is, is rather squishy, more interested in being PM than being a PM of of the United Kingdom.

The patriots may come from the second generation Britons who actually appreciate what it means to be British, the aboriginals seem to have forgotten or had it schooled and "beaten" out of them. I wouldnt be surprised to see an East Asian British leader who speaks with more heart about Nelson, Churchill and Wellington than an aboriginal Englishman, Scotman or Welshman.

"but to lead the global effort to build a stronger and more just international order,"

The usual rhetoric that precedes every attempt at tyranny. I wonder if man has been "civilized" beyond the point of a survival instinct.

AtlanticJim, your comment has got me thinking a bit. Don't forget its the same island that produced Nevil Chamberlain and a host of other such morons.

It took Adolph frickin' Hitler taking over Erupoe to wake the bastards up and make them LISTEN to Churchill in the first place. Ol' Nevil didn't resign as Prime Minister until May 10th 1940. Recall that the British Expeditionary Force got destroyed in detail by the Germans later that month. Driven off the Continent at Dunkirk and rescued by thousands of -civilians- in little weeny boats. This is not good planning.

Then as soon as the immediate crisis was over, 1945 they jettison Churchill, down tools and walk away from the largest empire in history. Hell, ran away is more like it. Result, the Partition in India, rise of Communism in the East and the f-ing Cold War that blighted all of us growing up in the 1960's. If they'd had any balls they'd have stood on Stalin's neck. Nuked Moscow and had done with it.

But they didn't. Grabbed the first straw of hope they could and let it ride. We are STILL paying for that. Witness Mr. Medved and Mr. Putin, and Mr. Kim Jong Very Ill.

WWI killed Europe, is my kind of gut level estimation. Killed their spirit. Ever since they've been ashamed of themselves and reluctant to leave home, so to speak. They abdicated responsibility to the League of Nations first, and then to the UN. WWII was the direct result of the League. For my money that was less of a catastrophe than the UN has been.

There are always plenty of unsavory types ready to step up and fill the vacuum with Nannystate-ism. Mr. Brown thinks Big Bovernment is good (for him anyway, seeing as he's running it), logically even Bigger Government is better. Lets have a Biggest Ever Government, a veritable One World Order so we can make -sure- that no ignorant cretin walks their poodle in the too hot sun anywhere on the entire planet ever again, by George. Lovely!

Nevil Chamberlain, ending war with paper. Gordon Brown, making the world safe for poodles. With paper.

It's worth noting in this context that the British consider twenty-five degrees Celsius to be an extraordinarily hot day. Of course, it makes no difference to these fools whether the dog breed was developed in a hot climate, not that I would want a law that makes this dependent on the breed of dog.

What's worse than being caught in London traffic on your way to work? Sitting in that traffic on a chilly morn and receiving a 20 quid ticket for not turning off your engine.

Unless we take special care we will be Britain in 20 years. Let's make sure that while we scoff we also give attention to our own multicullural plight.

@ Silicon Valley Jim,

The same thought occured to me. By that logic, there would be a pile of nocturnal dog walking going on in the warmer climes.

And what would she do for wild animals? Isn't the governement responsible for them? Will they have to fine and hopefully incarcirate themselves?

Posted by: AtlanticJim at November 10, 2008 12:57 PM

Noel Coward would be proud of the new version of "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun."

Posted by: Texas Canuck at November 10, 2008 12:57 PM

A dog which is accustomed to being walked at a given time will be very insistent and frustrated if denied a walk. As for heat - how bloody hot does it get in Britain?!?

As for dogs being fed from the table - dogs like treats as well as people do; they do have a sense of their own well-being. Can a government bureaucrat, clueless by definition, actually do better? A rhetorical question.

Posted by: John Lewis at November 10, 2008 2:03 PM

Is it alright to scream "wearing fur is murder!!!" at a dog? (Not including Chihuahuas etc.)

Sweet post. You used to my mind any way. Just the right balance of sacasum at this absurdity, with some important historical facts. WW 1& 2 killed Englands sense of destiny, as well, the pride of accomplishment. They have been in retreat from the world ever since.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn's proposed new codes of conduct for dog, cat and horse owners include rules that would allow for prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act of 2006, of pet owners whose animals become too thin, become too fat, are fed from the table or are walked on hot days, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

"This means no one will be able to claim ignorance as an excuse," Benn said.

Thank goodness I have someone to explain it like that. I'm terrible at following those non sequiturs.
