bitterness, thy name is kate.

i'm guessing the talking point you'll now try spinning is that the media stole the election from mccain?

mccain flushed his chances down the terrlet the day he recruited caribou barbie for the VP position on his ticket.

boo hoo hoo for you.

Posted by: johnny appleseed at November 5, 2008 10:27 PM

I unfortunately was in earshot of CBC's The National in which they claimed the Dali Bama is the new FDR, and moreover that he's coming in under more difficult circumstances (!).

The media will be lining up for a conjugal visit with Obama. Kennedy used to sneak blondes into his bed; Obama will be sneaking in the press, or so they hope.

"mccain flushed his chances down the terrlet the day he recruited caribou barbie for the VP position on his ticket."

You you can tell the ignorant left when you see them. First, it was the left who chose McCain in the primary. He was their guy in this election supposedly, of course he was only their patsy. Secondly whenever someone says Sarah Palin sunk John McCain they have their stupidity shows through, the left or "moderates" never had any intention of voting for McCain, so adding Palin to the ticket was actually sheer brilliance, and it energized the conservative base and gave McCain some conservative street cred. Just because some stupid leftist called her caribou barbie doesn't mean she wasn't a good pick, those people wouldn't have voted for McCain if their lives depended on it. The obvious problem in the end was that McCain didn't get the conservative vote out. Give Palin a year and a half to run for president, she'll get the vote out.

Theemarkable thing is that even with the MSM completely in the bag for BO - even more than Kennedy in '60 - he won by just 2%.

A day of reckoning for the MSM is approaching as Kate has previously noted.

2. I wonder if he will be as happy 40-odd months from now.

3. Fox News has been covering the stories about how inept many in the McCain camp found Palin to be. Even OReilly interviewed a Fox reporter who i have found to be pretty balanced in the past. A couple examples of the stories tell of how Palin did not seem to have anywhere near the qualifications for the job IF TRUE:

a. She apparently did not know Africa was a continent she thought it was a country.

b. She did not know which countries were in NAFTA.

Again, if true, and had I known of this prior to the vote, there is no way I would have supported
JM for potus. If it is not true, JM must publically out those who are saying such things.

Has anyone told the cdn media that Obama is president elect of the USA, not Canada.
However, the good news is that they will spend the next few months gushing over him till Jan 20/09, the liberal race and the Quebec election. PMSH should have smooth sailing to get his agenda thru without much attention from media pundits.
And, Canada will get barely a mention on the US networks.
And, he is not POTUS yet so why is the cbc Henry Champ talking about how PMSH has received no invitation to be the first head of state to visit O at the White House. Did PMSH invite him to Canada.
I think the real reason the liberals hated Bush is he visited Mexico before us.

CanuckinMI, how astute. Many traditional conservatives would not have voted for John McCain had he not chosen a VP pick to whom they could relate and who is a rural, ACTUAL conservative and not part of the Washington DC insiders' club. McCain and his backers Rudy Giuliani and Arnold Schwarzenneger are liberal Republicans who support guest worker status for illegal aliens. Obama and Hillary are soft on illegals, too. That issue, a concern for most conservatives, was neutralized by the choice of McCain and Obama. Sarah Palin and her family were stomped on by our illustrious media, so eager to portray themselves as all encompassing, benificent and sophisticated. The media as a whole is into power. Long live the blogs!

I agree it's nice the press here is focused on the one. Gush all over the one please and gush all over Harper's visit with him. As for Palin and the future of the Republican party in the US I think they'd be wise to dump her honestly. Yes Bush won twice by focusing on "the base" but look at the results. He had to go liberal big time to keep any hold on congress and the base is pissed.

Forget "the base". Dump social conservatism on it's ass. Focus on fiscal conservatism. Run on a promise to balance the budget and deliver. Come up with a simple 5 point plan to balance the budget and save social security.

Oh dear me.
From CTV for what passes as "local" news, from I believe Sudbury. We in Sault Ste Marie, get our 40-90 seconds pretty regularly.
Right to our great neighbours Sault Ste Marie, Michigan (surprise, surprise). A comely though well upholstered young woman. "I have not shown my American flag for eight years" quoth she. "Now I can put it up" - or words to that effect. A bit more doving and cooing for Obama from another.
Next the favourable last vote for GWB in that county. Ooo! guess what? 49.5-49% favour of McCain. Only eighty votes more. Meaningful emphasis.
What is the matter with these people?

Even though I'm not a bit fan of Obama's policies I feel bad for him. I doubt people elected him purly because of his charisma, policies and stances, they voted for him based on his skin colour. And they say there is no racism. To me that is racism!

This however seems the norm. The voters, for whatever reason, seem to pick the candidate who has the least military experience. For example; Bush over Gore, and Clinton over Bush Sr..

Posted by: Gunney99 at November 6, 2008 1:33 AM

Gord Tulk,

I think a lot of Americans don't know about NAFTA or details about Africa (and Canucks probably don't know either). It is something that you learn. What is really important is your judgement and character.

In my opinion, McCain saw that she was good, but he also saw that she had not been around the block especially with the media. That is why he attempted to protect her in the early goings. Palin got into trouble because she was too honest - she did not understand the game - she's learning (I actually don't find Obama to be that smart in terms of what's going on - but he is an expert at playing the game.).

The other thing is that Fox is a media business appealing to the right wing - that's how they make their bucks - and O'Reilly is just a talking head - and they may be trying to pin the blame. The best guys on Fox are guys like Dennis Miller and Karl Rove - they seem to really tell it like it is.

I'm absolutely confounded by those who still won't admit that the MSM were almost all entirely behind the Obama campaign. Not only did they refuse to investigate any issue, any gaff related to Obama or Biden, but they also amplified and invented issues for their opponents.

Even the legendary Edmonton Oilers under Gretzky, playing a game with "officials" like these would lose 10 - 2 each & every game.

Posted by: Robert W. at November 6, 2008 1:51 AM

ccann:"I actually don't find Obama to be that smart in terms of what's going on - but he is an expert at playing the game.)."
I agree. Ob seems to be in trouble whenever he has to adlib; ie: no cue cards. The Lib press has given him a free pass and we don't really know how he would stand up to real scrutiny; for example against Vladamir Putin.
One conservative pundit said it was a mistake to put Palin up against a viper such as in the fraudulent quotation caper. I think much of the criticism of her is raw envy.

Posted by: Gunney99 at November 6, 2008 1:57 AM

Foreign communists and dictators much be dying of envy. After all they had to establish a total bureaucracy to produce news à la Pravda while the American MSM (no one told our MSM that it was a Canadian election) did the same thing for free and with glee. The result is a Michael Jackson for president, a lot of razzle-dazzle and no substance. On the other hand it also brings back memories of Trudeaumania and we are still reaping the fall-out.

As to the photo of this so-called reporter, it says it all. Karl Marx even wrote that communism would conquer the world without ever firing a shot and how right he was.

Posted by: Alain at November 6, 2008 2:08 AM

Posted by: Alain at November 6, 2008 2:10 AM

"I'm absolutely confounded by those who still won't admit that the MSM were almost all entirely behind the Obama campaign"

I'm with you Robert W. Imagine if Barack Obama’s life, policies and mistakes had been examined by media as vigorously and relentlessly as they probed into Sarah Palin’s.

Good heavens, what does it mean when the media overlooks as an issue as important as Mr. Obama’s original declaration that he would accept public funding and the corresponding spending limits only to suddenly abandon that idea and raise over 600 million dollars. The screams of “BUYING AN ELECTION” and “FLIP FLOP” would have been deafening had Mr. McCain done precisely the same thing. Instead Obama raises a 4 to 1 advantage in money over McCain and there was barely a peep from his biggest supporters, the so-called fair and balanced media.

When you think of it, Mr. Obama hardly needed that massive bankroll to buy media advertising, given the press was giving it to him free anyway.

Where was the outrage in the press over the inconsistencies of Mr. Obama’s pledge to cut taxes on households earning less than $200.000. a year while raising taxes on those who make more than $250,000 annually. On October 28th Obama’s Vice Presidential Candidate declared that the tax cut would only go to those earning $150,000. Then, on Oct. 31st on a radio program the current Democratic Governor Bill Richardson stated that only those that make under$120,000. will get a tax cut. It is hard to imagine the scale of the outrage if McCain had blundered this badly. Why are the Democrats backing off? If they had wanted to, the media could have reported that the top 1% or taxpayers pay 35% (of all the US taxes), top 10 percent pay 68 percent of the tab, -and the bottom 50 percent pay just 3 percent of the taxes. In other words Obama has to raise taxes the very middle class he purports to cut taxes for. Too bad the media did not go to work for the whole electorate before voting day.

And where was the press investigation into the ramifications of Mr. Obama’s plan to raise raise taxes on corporations and the “rich”. Mr. Obama promised to assess a windfall profits tax on oil companies like Exxon and distribute a $1000. of the proceeds to those who pay little taxes to no taxes at all. Sounds good, even sounds nice. However when the Democratic Presidential candidate Obama and his personal Main Stream Media advertising team overlooked a few things. Yes, Exxon makes $1400 a second in profit, but Exxon also pay’s $4000 a second in taxes and $15,000 a second in costs......almost 3 times (285%) as much profit to the government than they put in their own piggy bank. They are already paying a massive amount of taxes to that get directed to the less fortunate. How much more can they take before they bog off to a lower tax jurisdiction. Like maybe Canada.

With a corporate tax rate of 39.4 % rate (second highest in the OECD) forecast to rise under Obama, corporations have to begin looking next door to Canada where their current 36.4% rate is scheduled to drop dramatically to 29.25% in 2012 (combined Fed/Prov). How is it that the far more socialist Canada is offering business a better deal than the USA, the greatest bastion of capitalism in history? Probably because we learned the hard way that raising taxes higher on business and subsidizing failing ones in the past killed jobs, the economy and ultimately reduced the amount of taxes that found its way into federal treasuries.

The media bias robbed voters of accurate, fair and balanced reporting on a huge broad range of subjects vital to the future health of their nation. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness got replaced with deception, avoidance, and media collaboration in the cause of ever larger and intrusive government. .

With nothing to do but run for president and against the specter of the "evil George Bush" and against an opponent that most conservative Republicans loathed BO only managed to win by a couple of percentage points in popular vote. He will not do well next time no matter who he runs against.

None of that is to denigrate an excellently executed campaign that won a decisive electoral college victory. A gold medal is always better than a silver ever if it a matter of milliseconds difference between those competing.

But conservatives won't. Conservatives will behave much more cooperatively with Obama than liberals behaved with Pres. Bush. We're just too darn decent. And Obama will get the credit for being a "uniter."

Sigh.

With so much hype about electing the first Black POTUS, was that the dynamic that put him over the top?
Of course, he was energetic and inspiring from the get go, had all the platitudes at the ready and delivered them well. Add to that, a gushing media which did promote him well.

The same media tore down Palin, they did a real number on her, she didn't have a chance. McCain did not match the energy of the Obama campaign,it was over before he showed some energy in the final sprint.

Being able to inspire a nation and even the world can be a bonus but expectations go with it. Obama has some heavy lifting to do from a lofty pedestal.

Equating with Kennedy is expected. He could turn out to be another Jimmeh Carter.

Obama has a lot of expectations heaped upon him--far too many for even a Messiah to fulfil. Check back after he's been in office for a few months and take the temperature of the nation. I don't wish for him to fail. Failure of a people's leaders translates into deep misery for many. For all those who found themselves floundering in debt because they couldn't pay for totally ridiculous mortgages and for all the companies who profited from lying about who could afford what...I don't think Mr. Obama will have any answers. Bush and his minions have been thoroughly bad for the US and that blighted McCain's chances from day one. I wish McCain could have prevailed but he would have needed honesty from the media to give him a fighting chance. Now I just hope Obama has some intelligent minders because I don't have a lot of confidence in the man himself. A pretty face? Yes. A good brain? I doubt it.

Posted by: rita at November 6, 2008 8:38 AM

And Obama is not a Marxist. He's a millionaire and a blatant opportunist who throws his friends under the bus whenever he needs to. Watch for more bodies to slip under the wheels as the presidency squeezes the ideology out of the Anointed One - Pelosi - whoops! Reid - sorry about that.

For those of you who think Obama is the President of a "progressive" country, and Obama voters will come together in a collective "Kumbaya" - take another look at which states just banned gay marriage. Obama knows this too.

Obama voters were voting themselves benefits, plain and simple, albeit benefits that will never materialize.

A larger portion of Americans before the election figured out that we were being duped by the media, so let's see how many more a year from now figure out that Boy Wonder, that media product that he is, can't possibly deliver on any of his vacuous promises. When the rubber meets the road with Obama I'm betting the media at some point in the future will choose not to go over the cliff with his administration and the congressional Dems. Hype and hyperbole won't be working out for the MSM once Obama has to perform and fails.

I think the fact the US elected dear leader President Hussein ( yes I mean Obama ) is just one more sign among hundreds of little signs Western civilization is slowly dying, here are a few other,

Revealed: UK’s first official sharia courts

Abul Taher

ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

GAFFNEY: Treasury submits to Shariah

COMMENTARY:

The U.S. Treasury Department is submitting to Shariah - the seditious religio-political-legal code authoritative Islam seeks to impose worldwide under a global theocracy.

... ... ...

This has nothing to do with dear leader President Hussein being Muslim or not, it has to do with the fact that he was groomed by and is friends with Muslims who hate Jews and the USA (Khalidil and a few others ),
friends with radicals who hate white people and the USA
( Wright and a few others ),
and friends with marxist ex-terrorists who hate white people , capitalism, the USA etc... ( Ayers and his wife)

Oh and by the way Ayers and his wife have a new book coming out in 2009, what is the topic?

White supremacism in the USA.

Google it. (It will feel like a trip back to the 1960s...)

So if any white people out there think voting for B Hussein Obama was a way of curing themselves from white guilt, they are in for a big surprise!

It is entirely possible that someday President Hussein will make studying Bill Ayers work on
" white supremacism " mandatory in high schools...or that President Hussein will regulate the internet and make comments such as this one illegal to post...

I could be wrong, but from what I know of dear leader President Hussein, and I know a lot ( I read at least 10 hours a day ), the next four years will be a rough ride...

So how long will it be before Miss Winfrey is offered an ambassadorship to Africa by the Big "O"? Weeks? Months? for her silent support.

Did any one else see the rejoicing woman on a TV news clip saying "Now I'll have everything God meant me to have"...why is it I think she is referring to a big screen TV and not freedom.

And the decent into total madness continues:

Can Obama save Christmas?:
Excerpt: "...But to the extent that Obama is a good speaker, I think he can certainly lift spirits, lift expectations and ultimately maybe speed some of the recovery from the consumer side..."

Worthy of a: "Is there anything Obama can't do?" segment?

Panning to that idiot Jesse Jackson with the water on his face irritated me! The media should have repeated his Obama insults each time they showed that clip. Or at least mentioned them once!

What do you expect from the man who squeezed through the crowd and smeared Martin Luther King's blood on his clothes, then used the images to boost his standing in the black community for the next 40 years.

"I can already bet 1 million that Obama will be named "Man of the year" by Times magazine."

And I would bet money that the more dear leader Hussein fails , the more chances he has of being nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

They gave a peace prize to a man who did everything he could to not have peace with Israel ; Arafat

They gave one to the biggest snake oil salesman on the planet who did ZERO for world peace; Al Gore.

The next Nobel Peace Prize will go to dear leader Hussein no matter how bad of a president he is.

Bet on it.

Melanie Phillips at the Spectator says it better than I can,

...What this election tells us is that America voted for change because America is in the process of changing – not just demographically by becoming less white and more diverse, but as the result of a culture war in which western civilisation is losing out to a far-left agenda which has become mainstream, teaching American children to despise the founding values of their country and hijacking discourse by the minority power-grab of victim-culture.

Posted by: Friend of USA at November 6, 2008 10:47 AM

The question now becomes: how long will it take the Democrats (other than the Clintons) to realize tha the Democratic Party did not win; Barak Obama won.

Posted by: EyesWideShut at November 6, 2008 11:33 AM

I'm glad Obama won.If he had not won we would have to endure non stop what ifs and I told you sos from the MSM and trolls. Now we get front seats to watch the one fall on his sword and the crazy left wing run in circles wondering where all that free money is.

johnny appleseed is like that soldier that is sad that the war is over because he loved killing so much. johnny, the election happened, your guy won, now your guy needs to get to work governing, and guess what? continually insulting half the country your guy needs to govern in his name ain't helping.

re: palin story.
I am just passing on what I saw on o'reilly. Check out the video if you don't believe me. Oreilly can hardly be considered anti-McCain/Palin IF it is true - that she has something less than a fifth grader's level of geography knowledge - it should be instant disqualification for vpotus. That the McCain camp would cover it up is disturbing too.

Lame equating it to momentary faux pas such as "58" and 'mostamericans don't know Africa isn't a country' do not excuse such lack of knowledge.

I reiterate - go see the videoon oreilly's site and hear about all the things she's being accused of.

CRB "For your information Gord, PE Obama found out just weeks (WEEKS), ago that there are only 50 states in the union rather than the 58 he knew of."

For the past two years he's been used the phrase "all fifty states" umpteen times. If you want to demonstrate that Obama is half as thick as Sarah Palin you're going to have to do better than that.

bluetech"'Cuz it's not like anything Palin says gets twisted, eh?"

The election is over so you can stop making excuses for her now.

Posted by: Jose at November 6, 2008 2:46 PM

Eh, the press has always been yellow (remember the USS Maine?). Anyone who thinks that there was a period of honesty is delusional.

Posted by: Matt at November 6, 2008 7:35 PM

My vote for most vicious news info'tainer is CNN's Campbell Brown ("No Bias, No Bull"), still beating up Sarah Palin, who is taking her lumps with grace and gratitude to John McCain for selecting her.

Palin has too much class for U.S. politics.

Posted by: chutzpahticular at November 6, 2008 9:05 PM

Just listened to dear old dependable Lloyd Robertson starting about 20 minutes ago. Then we got jolly old Joy Malbon. Joy seemed extra spiced up this evening.

Yep, the discontent of certain Republicans with Governor Palin. Lawyers, quoth Joy, are going up to Alaska to check on the spending of Governor Palin. Someone else- a male voice then quoted some unidentified source as calling down a bunch of Wasilla hicks plundering the funds.

Will these people just never give up? Oh, I forgot, they must have their dose of hate. They are addicted. The joker will come when finally the Bush people are gone. Withdrawal symptons will likely occur.

Posted by: Peter(Lock City) at November 6, 2008 11:24 PM

So now, in the afterglow and honeymoon period of Dear Leader, and his travellin sideshow of wondrous abilities, I got to wondering about the poor old MSM. Oh sure, they're still poking sticks at Palin, and patting McCain on the back for being so nice, "Nice show Johnny, glad you could last the whole race, tough luck!" And sure enough, they've got Dubya for a couple of months of lame duck appearances to go.

But, after they are all gone, and the honeymoon fades away, the MSM is going to have some soul searching to do. A period of aimlessness. No more enemies on the right, no more easy cheap shots.

And who are they going to go after? How long before they turn on Dear Leader? For awhile, they'll give him a grace period, but, after the first year, the infighting will start. The radicals won't be satisfied with the slug like crawl of 'change', they will want it all now. Reality sets in for Obamessiah, promising so much to so many, in so short a time.

It will get messy, but will the MSM pay attention, or still give his "Hope and Change" updates on a daily basis?

We'll see how long, and how faithful, the usefull idiots of the MSM continue their parade
