2008 US Election Day Linkfest

I'll be following the events of today as best as I can, as I have work demands as well. I recommend you follow the usual hot spots for updates - Drudgereport, Instapundit, and NRO's The Corner.

Lots at PJM and Hot Air

Just a reminder - beware the exit poll reports. They were intentionally wrong (manipulated and leaked) in 2000, wrong in 2004 and wrong again in 2006.

One I"ll be watching - on behalf of the wrongly accused, and Murtha-convicted Marines of "Haditha".

Speaking of which - for all the mealy-mouthed Democratic "support" for the troops, why is it always the Republicans doing the suing to ensure military votes are counted

Update - Voter intimidation in Philadelphia

For what it's worth - behind the scenes chatter indicates that the McCain campaign genuinely believes they have a chance at pulling out a win, based on the way the polls have been breaking in battleground states.

Drop your own links in the comments. I'll start a new thread for discussion once actual returns begin to come in.

A Why Vote McCain-Palin argument from one of my favourite states - North Carolina. (With a shout out to my lurking dogshow peeps there!)

Obama - McCain, the younger years. Heh

HotAir.com is a great site, too, and a little better designed than either Isty or the Corner, as everything is 'in your face' as a grid of stories, rather than a long, tickertape of stuff.

I'm trying to be charitable: could Murtha have some kind of organic brain problem?? Because he really seems messed up.

Obama - 338
McCain - 200

IBD (most accurate pollster last election) had this as a 2% Obama lead on Sunday. Now today the spread has gone to 7.2 for Obama. Not good.

Unfortunately, Obama will win with very high probability ("19 times out of 20").

What I will be looking at most is the senate races. A democratic filibuster proof majority would be quite dangerous.

When this is over, many Republicans will probably be wondering how it was that John McCain ever got the nomination in the first place. Many conservatives were derided for being skeptical of McCain's ability to win the White House, but now it appears that their criticisms were well founded.

As far as the future of the United States goes, in four year's time they'll likely be in the same position as New Zealand was in the early 1980's: literally bankrupt and looking to have a firesale on all the socialized assets that they were so eager to buy up in earlier years.

Obama will wind up looking more like Jimmy Carter than JFK.

Prediction - Obama wins

If I'm right...no biggie.

If I'm wrong......inner cities will burn ala' Rodney King days.

Posted by: James Halifax at November 4, 2008 11:26 AM

With out all the bombs and noise will this be America's second day of infamy?

Posted by: Western Canadian at November 4, 2008 11:33 AM

It looks like Obama will win so the cities will burn when he can't deliver instead of sooner.

Posted by: Speedy at November 4, 2008 11:42 AM

SCene: downtown Detroit 3 months from now

Obama follower: Where's my gas for my car? Where's my mortgage payment? I still have to work to get by...this is not fair. I voted for Obama, but I haven't gotten any free stuff yet.

Scene: downtown detroit. 3 months and 1 day from now. Buildings and cars are engulfed in flames and people are running in and out of looted stores with various merchandise...they do NOT have receipts.

Former Obama cult member: We were promised the world and since they didn't deliver we are picking it up ourselves.

Posted by: johnboy at November 4, 2008 11:49 AM

James Halifax...

IIRC, a white truck driver was killed or badly attacked during those...

If things light up?

I'm feeling a flu...

Posted by: Hard Right at November 4, 2008 12:00 PM

I wonder how many national guard are indiscriminately posted around some US cities on high alert today?

Not that anyone really believes Obamba can really loose this rigged election, but I suppose you never know.

Posted by: Knight 99 at November 4, 2008 12:08 PM

James:
The cities are going to burn no matter who wins.
If it's Obama, there will be rioting in the streets similar to those that occur when a sports team wins a championship. Also looting because of the feeling of entitlement that goes along with those that would act in that manner.
If McCain wins, expect much more of the same but for obviously different reasons.
The Rodney King days were picnics compared to the '60's. Unfortunately things haven't changed much since.

I said 2008 would be remembered as the year of the fraud and even though it is still early in the day, it seems I will be right,

From WSBTV Nov 4 2008,

[...]...A team of investigative journalists from WSB-TV in Atlanta, WFTV in Orlando and WFTS in Tampa and WCPO in Cincinnati compared Georgia's voter rolls with those in Florida and Ohio and found more than 100,000 people who appear to be registered to vote in more than one state, with no government oversight to catch it.

How will we know for sure if the Chicago party slated for tonight's "inevitable" Messiah Obama win is a riot or a just a hot time in the old town?

Whatever happens, the USA has come a long way. Finally a person of the Black race can be anything they wish to be, including the most powerful person in the free world.
No more excuses and complaints about racial discrimination and amen to that.

The Big O is really just a post turtle.Lets see if he gets 'there'.

A doctor was suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year-old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle.'
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there in the first place.

Posted by: Charles MacDonald at November 4, 2008 1:45 PM

There are two things I want to see come out of this election:

1. A McCain/Palin Whitehouse

2. John Murtha getting his sorry ass kicked right around the block.

When Americans wake up on Wednesday and the biased fog engendered by the zealots in the media clears, it will be akin to the Liberals awakening from the drunken debauchery that elected Stephane Dion as their leader two years ago.

Americans, as did the Liberals, will utter "oh my G*d, what have we done?"

The Barackolypse will have begun it's four year scourge on the United States.

Posted by: OttRob at November 4, 2008 3:18 PM

Unfortunately, it looks like the democrats are doing everything they can to really steal this election. Voter intimidation, registration fraud, coersion, etc. I wouldn't doubt that the fallout from this will be purple dye on the thumb for the 2012 election, a la Iraq.

If you want to see GIANT HAIRY BEAVERS, aka Castoroides OHIOensis, part of the group of LARGE Dead Animals, I recommend the above link.

I hear John McCain is also a fan of LARGE Dead Animals, like Castoroides "OHIO"enis, as all the GIANT BEAVERS are pulling for him.

Now if Sarah Palin gives you that gnawing feeling, try taking your wife out on a date.

If McCain was black, this would be a republican landslide. The late, great,Martin Luther King Jr.,had a dream about judging a man by the content of his character rather than the colour of his skin. Unfortunately,in the zeal to make history, many have forgotten these words.Every vote for Obama just because he is a black man is another spit on his grave. It is a pity.

NOV 5/08 - (AP) ... Vice-president Cheney spoke to the nation from the White House at 3:15 pm EST to announce that President George W. Bush had died in his sleep of "natural causes." He went on to say that a smooth transition of power was underway, and that he had reviewed the results of the election Tuesday, and found "numerous cases of voter fraud" leading to "an illegitimate win for the Marxist revolutionary Obama."

He went on to say, "Comrade Obama is now in a secure and secret location where he is being debriefed for information about his co-conspirators in this plot to overthrow the democratic government of the United States."

John McCain, speaking from his home in Arizona, said that despite his crushing defeat, he was "ready to serve the nation as the only legitimate candidate to win states, and I appeal to the electors of the Electoral College to consider the constitutional implications and vote for me in December."

Vice President Cheney went on to say that an Emergency Committee was pondering the possible need to declare martial law and suspend parts of the constitution including the scheduled meeting of the Electoral College. "Another option on the table is a continuation of the present administration through 2012," he stated.

Major networks have been notified that a National Security "consultant" would be present in their newsrooms "until further notice."

President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has offered Barack Obama asylum, while Vladimir Putin has stated that he regards the actions of Vice President Cheney to be "undemocratic, against the needs of the people, and an affront to the international community." He then went tiger hunting with some friends.

Fortunatly the US has Elections in two years for Congress. He still will have control of three branches. The judicuary, Senate with him as POTUS.
Very dangerious climate as we have seen in the Canada's. A Super Majority is way to much power.
Still hoping for McCain.
