I do not understand how the newspaper people can be so willfully blind to the fact that they are putting themselves out of business. Don't take this the wrong way, but places like this are borderline insufferable. There are all kinds of pompous windbags constantly making making proclamations of who is or is not conservative, what is and what is not conservative, with their only qualification appearing to be that they feel they are the most pompous. If there was any alternative, if there was a mainstream outlet anywhere that still knew how to do research, and wasn't in the tank for clear asshats, you probably would not even have a reason to run this place.

Maybe they hope the One will bail them out IF he gets in.

Posted by: bluetech at October 28, 2008 11:05 AM

Kevin,

If you insulate an industry from competition, it eventually gets lazy, starts taking its clientele for granted, and puts out a progressively inferior product. Sometimes this process takes years to play out, but the newspaper industry is no different in this regard from any other. No one should be surprised at what is going on here.

Along comes the internet and a crop of bloggers who now provide increasingly fierce competition to the print newspaper industry. The newspapers are essentially caught with their pants down, and for the most part they don't know what to do about it, other than wrap themselves in denial.

I suspect that even if the MSM dimwits somehwo learn to carry out objective research, bloggers will become a permanent fixture of the media community.

I sincerely hope this left wing rag goes under. They deserve what they get!

The end of neocon nonsense is close at hand. The socialist indoctrination of conservative children is coming soon - free gay sex for everyone! Finally the schools will properly teach homosexuality, pro-life movements will fade into background noise, the defense budget will be properly spent on universal healthcare, etc. Things are looking up for the US.

Newsmen and women have become utterly impervious to the ravages of serious critical thought... Apparently critical reporting consists of repeating anecdotes ad infinitum.

Posted by: bcf at October 28, 2008 11:22 AM

And why pay good coffee-money to read last week's blogging news in a lousy, hard to-spread paper half full of grocery-store flyers and SUV adverts?

Posted by: bcf at October 28, 2008 11:26 AM

yeah anon, along with you, things will indeed be "looking up," right up the sphincter of Satan himself.

Hope you like warm weather.

Posted by: Doug at October 28, 2008 11:30 AM

Surely anon is being sarcastic.

Posted by: aubrey at October 28, 2008 11:57 AM

Amazing how the media just gives this man a free ride to the white house. Afraid that any criticism will be deemed as racist!

Posted by: tracy at October 28, 2008 12:03 PM

The NYT is like the old sea captain who is senile and resides in an asylum. He continues to bark orders but cannot understand why the staff ignores him while the other inmates scurry around to do his bidding.

Mental iceberg dead ahead.

Amazingly prescient! H/T thanks for the link.

Posted by: DirtCrashr at October 28, 2008 1:02 PM

No satire. Others have said it, and I couldn't agree more: I look forward to carbon taxes, the legalization of gay marriage in the US, the restocking of the Supreme Court, and universal healthcare, among other things. But mostly I'm excited about the wholesale indoctrination of right wingnut children. It's probably best if you take them out of the schools anyway and homeschool them, because sex education will definitely be including information about homosexual relationships.

Life is getting good; good enough to distract from the CPC win up here.

you like other lefties will rue the day you praised this Marxist fool, unintended consequences seem to always jump up and bite lefties on the a$$ (and in some cases the rite wingers also) when they want to social engineer society

at 60 years old, I'v seem this so many times that it amazes me you lefties haven't learned a damn thing from history

Posted by: GYM at October 28, 2008 1:30 PM

Mr. Anon's comments are refreshing, are they not? Leftists so seldom say what it is they are actually working toward.

With the immanent bankruptcy of the big media companies, anon and his fellows will be seeing their goals talked about more and more. That'll be fun!

Posted by: The Phantom at October 28, 2008 1:35 PM

Anon has obviously been into some bad weed or become deranged by over studying the NYT.

Can you guys manufacture another hoax please? This whining is getting boring.

Sources: Sarkozy views Obama stance on Iran as 'utterly immature'
By Barak Ravid
Tags: Israel News, Nicolas Sarkozy

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama's positions on Iran, according to reports that have reached Israel's government.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France. But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate's stance on Iran as "utterly immature" and comprised of "formulations empty of all content."

So I gather not all the press is "in the tank" for Obama, depending on your news source.

Cheers

McCain's supporters:

Posted by: anon at October 28, 2008 4:32 PM

If McCain and Palin pull this election out of the bag, there is going to be a worldwide crash in MSM. The only thing they have left is a supposed forum for influence - as soon as it is realized that they cannot really influence people - they will crash.

Posted by: cconn at October 28, 2008 4:33 PM

So now their commercial paper is as worthless as their newspaper has been for the thirty-five years that I can remember.

cconn - out of your mouth to God's.

Posted by: gellen at October 28, 2008 5:47 PM

cconn, they are going to crash no matter who wins. The MSM are all competing with each other for the same audience: anon and jose. aka the few Leftist retards who actually believe all this crap.

Seen from the cold light of harsh dollars, the management layer of the MSM has decided to pursue a shrinking number of customers who don't have any money, while alienating a growing number of ex-customers who do have money. Meanwhile, the web is -giving away- content we can't even buy at any price from the MSM. That's how amazingly stupid these people are.

Should this last ditch propaganda blitz get Obama and the Democrats elected in a majority, and should they pursue their "fairness doctrine" censorship campaign against the "right wing" web/blogosphere/talk radio, it won't matter a damn. Even the Chicoms can't shut up the web, the Democrats are going to destroy themselves trying. And the MSM will STILL not have any paying audience, and they will still be going bankrupt.

Posted by: The Phantom at October 28, 2008 6:05 PM

Don't worry about MSM, left wing media will get bailed out by, a soon to be, left leaning majority in the houses. The hiatus of conservatism can be squarly placed on the Republican party for running Democrats as representatives. Its going to be a long 4 years.

If Obama wins the MSM will be installed in their bright new offices, high atop The Ministry of Truth, and their narrative will become the everlasting guiding light of the Living Breathing and Changing Constitution - as the Messiah lives and breathes forever - and never be challenged by lesser lights...

McCain: tortured by communists

Obama: tutored by communists

Change we can believe in.

Posted by: biff at October 28, 2008 7:50 PM

Peeeerfect timing.

But, wait, doesn't there need to be a plethora of in tune liberal voices, if denmocracy is to succeed? It is only fair that the failing liberal news media be supported, fairness after all, given the unreasonable competition from Foxnews and talk radio.

Watch for the "fairness doctrine" to rear its ugly rear after the Ubermessiah ascends to godhead.

Posted by: RW at October 28, 2008 8:19 PM

Given how Obama's campaign seems to be very vindictive towards anyone who even asks a question of them, let alone offers criticism, then I can foresee hard times ahead for free thinkers. They won't be satisfied until we're all mesmerized conformists wandering the streets mumbling in low monotones, "o-bam-a. yes-we-can. change-change-change."

Posted by: Free Thinker at October 28, 2008 8:58 PM

The normal human condition is to live under tyranny. The brief respite in the English speaking world is coming to end, like it or not. All of Europe is socialist now. N. America is edging closer and closer all the time, no matter which party is elected.

In Canada, we elected Harper to slowly take us left. The three other parties would have moved much more quickly, but apparently we didn't want to go that fast.

In the US, both presidential candidates will move left, it's only the speed of the move that is to be decided by the election.

How do you freedom fighters propose to arrest the progress of the left? Yakking on blogs won't do it! Pussyfooting around the issue won't reverse the trend.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm a freedom fighter too. But I also recognize when the jig is up.

=====================
I've been thinking the same thing. I'd be voting for McCain/Palin just so the MSM would get a big black eye.

About it being world wide, there's a slight problem with organizations like Mother Corp CBC and BBC, but I'm sure they won't hang on for too much longer.

Posted by: Louise at October 28, 2008 9:25 PM

Rosco

The trouble with actually doing anything effective is that you give moral ammunition to the socialists - in essence we get labelled as "counter-revolutionaries" by the socialist government, and then they feel free to act draconically to "restore public order" - ie. radcially expand their powerbase. You are right in that the jig is up. Best thing to do now fairly soon is shut up, cocoon and don't draw too much attention to yourself. At the moment the socialist establishment is content to use the "HRCs", your job, etc in order to keep you in line. In 10 years time they'll probably feel confident enough to make the switch to more persuasive, robust methods. Trust me, as one who grew up living under a neo-socialist dictatorship, I know the early warning signs...

Posted by: bcf at October 28, 2008 10:10 PM

You guys are funny. "The world's about to end! Communism is coming! Fascism is coming! Hide away, keep your head down, don't draw attention to yourself!"

The best is: "we get labelled as "counter-revolutionaries" by the socialist government, and then they feel free to act draconically to "restore public order" - ie. radcially expand their powerbase..."

You just described the Bush administration, and the last eight years.

C'mon, stop being pussies guys. Start a revolution. Don't pay your taxes. Do something worthwhile, rather than sitting your fat asses in front of the computer like a bunch of Dorito-stuffed fairies and spouting off about Armageddon.

The NY Times endorsement was a real surprise, considering they have endorsed the Democrat candidate in EVERY election since 1960:
