Several commenters are suggesting Charest should run. A Conservative could win it all for the Liberals. Anything to get back in power. Heh.

Heh , I'm # 296 .

Does he drink scotch and shoot midgets?

Of course. Who doesn't?

Sometimes I get mixed up; then I scotch midgets and drink shooters.

#382 - I said Dion was the best leader the liberal party ever had. Of course, I'm a conservative so that might be a biased comment :)

Any kind of fool could see there was something in everything about him.

Mr. Dion, come back. You can blame it all on us. We were wrong, and we just can't live without you.

Posted by: EBD at October 21, 2008 8:25 PM

The on the Trudeau mythos cake was his phoenix-like return to beat Clark in '80.

Dion is nothing if not a fanatic disciple of Trudeau. Could it be he and his supporters are trying to achieve the same feat?

Posted by: Gord Tulk at October 21, 2008 8:30 PM

Shocked! I am absolutely shocked that the honest Liberal Party would do anything to get rid of one of their finest political minds that this party has ever produced in a dogs age.

The man is a natural political animal and they want to GET RID OF HIM?

What a terrible mistake that would be.

Stay Steffi, stay!

Posted by: rockyt at October 21, 2008 8:31 PM

Apparently the true Liberal pushing the "keep Dion" movement is David Orchard.

A really good Liberal.

Loyal son of Saskatchewan :)

Posted by: Fred at October 21, 2008 8:34 PM

Stay Dion; just because they never found Jimmy Hoffa is no reason to be a quitter.

Heh.....#524...like I said...you Libs chose him,are you guys/gals so hypocritical you fire your own choice?? ROFLMAO.

John Turner, after taking the libs to 40+ seats, was allowed to stay for 6 years. Dion should be allowed more than 6 as he got over 70 seats.

"Stephan Dion is a leader."

I'm sorry, I can't sign my pseudonym to a lie that big. It would disturb the karmic balance of the universe.

"Keep Stephan Dion as leader because he's useless as tits on a boar and he will keep you scummy Liberals in debt and in the Opposition seats for ever and ever and EVER." Now that I could sign my name to.

Maybe the liberal party can't afford it ... but how about everyone else donating (conditional) to his leadership costs if he refuses to step down? I want him as the liberal leader!!!!

I am #936 @ 2003hrs. I have been on the G&M and CBC giving nothing but praise to Mr. Dions leadership.

Posted by: Merle Underwood at October 22, 2008 12:05 AM

As head of the Pennsylvania assoc. of the Liberal Party of Canada, and a devout admirer of M. Dion, I've signed the Petition. One may add a brief comment and I considered "Keep Le Clown!" but decided upon "Precipitous removal of Mr. Dion will not address substantive Party problems." I guess you could call that "Bullsh*tting the Bullsh*tters".

And if in some minute way, I've helped the Conservative Party by encouraging the Liberals to keep Le Clown, I've done my bit today to be a good Yank neighbor to Canada. :-)

A P.S. To borrow a Churchill quote (referring to a Labour Leader) and aim it at Mr. Dion, "He has so much to be modest about."

Posted by: Dave in Pa. at October 22, 2008 12:09 AM

I think we should send Mr. Dion a nice selection of cheese. Something to compliment his whine.

Posted by: Audj at October 22, 2008 12:13 AM

>>>> "new petition from Liberal party members"!
It's "alterior motive"!!!!
It's not fair.
...-

"I like most people from Canada writes:

I wonder why the Globe isn't reporting about the new petition from Liberal party members to keep Dion as the leader, I guess it already has well over a thousand signatures. CTV is reporting it, does the Globe have an alterior motive?"

What a hero Steffi is, he's bravely hanging on by the arse of his pants and without the blessings of much of his party. Many were lining up with backers to fill in for him, divisions galore.

What courage he has to sit across from that "liar" Stephen 'Arper' who caused his defeat with those terrible attack ads.
Wonder who he'll have flanking him on the front bench next session of Parliament? Bet they're lining up riding shotgun.

Posted by: Soccermom at October 22, 2008 12:15 PM

I have just spend the last few minutes in a fit of giggles reading that petition. It's getting funnier with every new signature.

What were those people thinking?

Posted by: Jan at October 22, 2008 12:23 PM

1522 hilrious signatures and counting.

Posted by: richfisher at October 22, 2008 1:23 PM

"Stéphane Dion is an example of courage, intelligence and integrity. He is the best leader we can have."

You get the feeling some of the people are SERIOUS!

I'm at #378, and also refer to Dion's integrity.;-)

Posted by: dmorris at October 22, 2008 1:36 PM

Here's the comment I left with my petition signature:

"Please Keep Dion! His numbers are moving the Liberal Party in the right direction!!"

I wonder if they'll see it as the backhand it was ;)

Posted by: Magda at October 23, 2008 5:46 PM

The Conservatives(Harper-regime) successfully planted a perfect "live" interview, with questions, no doubt "thoughtfully processed" from the news station "team' which "identified and conquered" Stephane Dion's language-barrier handicap... what irked me most about the low-blow Q(maliciously pre-meditated in my view)was their "promise not to show" the tape.. and did anyway!! I wonder, how much in "donations" "they" all got, for the pushing-out-the-door of Stephane Dion??
