For all those people talking about Harper being able to get things done now, "It's the committees stupid!" Voting was not the problem, everyone watched as the loyal opposition rolled over time and time again. The problem was in the committees where the the opposition deliberately subverted the Conservative agenda through procedural ill will. That situation, while improved, has not been fixed. Until the Conservatives have a chance at getting their agenda through the committees nothing is really going to change.

Here's one solution to global warming. Seal the borders!

http://www.cis.org/GreenhouseGasEmissions

...immigrants in the United States produce about four times more CO2 in the United States as they would have in their countries of origin. The estimated 637 metric tons of CO2 U.S. immigrants produce is 482 million tons more than they would have produced had they remained in their home countries. This 482 million ton increase represents about 5 percent of the increase in annual world-wide CO2 emissions since 1980. These figures do not include the impact of children born to immigrants in the United States. If they were included, the impact would be even higher.

I want to know your thoughts, all you in the SDA nation. My sister attends a film school at a public university in Alberta. She was assigned a project. To find all the places on campus where you can film simulated sex scenes or where you can snort cocaine. My sister refused to participate on a moral basis as a Christian and as a result of her stance she failed the project. She appealed to the school administration only to get this reply.

...."we require further information with regards to the religious foundation which leads to the conclusion that you cannot participate in either a project involving simulated sex or simulated cocaine use. Please describe in detail why being Christian mandates avoiding such projects. As what is currently written is too vague on this point."

This publically funded porn film school wants a theology paper. I'd love to know your thoughts.

Posted by: Christoph at October 16, 2008 12:40 AM

Quite so, Christoph, for as Sir Humphrey Appleby said, "[...] as far as we can see, looking at it by and large, taking one thing with another, in terms of the average of departments, then in the last analysis it is probably true to say that, at the end of the day, you would find, in general terms, that, not to put too fine a point on it, there really was not very much in it one way or the other, as far as one can see, at this stage. Without resorting to crude generalizations or vulgar over-simplifications, in due course, in the fullness of time, at the appropriate juncture, when the moment is ripe, when the requisite procedures have been completed, all things being considered, and making all possible allowances, I shall do my utmost to oblige."

Terrorism Suspected In B.C. Pipeline Bombing

http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2008/10/terrorism-suspected-in-bc-pipeline.html

Excerpts from sources:

“This is a targeted attack on the infrastructure of British Columbia,” RCMP Sergeant Tim Shields said Wednesday in explaining why the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team has been called in to help other police units with the investigation.

(...)

The previous week, suspicious handwritten letters arrived at newspapers and a TV station in Dawson Creek calling EnCana Corp. and other energy companies "terrorists" for expanding "deadly" gas wells and giving the firms a deadline to shut down operations, including the gas plant served by the pipeline.

"You have until Oct. 11, 2008 (Saturday, 12 noon) to close down your operations … and leave the area until further notice," the letters said.

...they carried through with their threat on Saturday.

Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at October 16, 2008 5:46 AM

Might I note that the attack took place on the 11th of this month...

"Stephane Dion's Green Shift, the plan to save the planet through taxes on carbon, is gone. Have you been to the website?

It redirects to the Liberal Party page. No more income calculator, no more pictures of Al Gore shaking Stephane Dion's hand. All gone. The Liberal Party didn't just scrub the Green Shift site clean of references to Stephane Dion. The Liberal Party deep-sixed the site in its entirety."
...-

"The Liberals start saving the pennies by dropping the Green Shift

The Liberal Party is broke. The collapse in the popular vote means far less money coming in from the government. Donations, which have been an anemic source of funds for the Liberals, will like drop even lower, and much of it will be vacuumed up by the leadership candidates from the last leadership convention, still struggling to pay off their debts. That includes Stephane Dion, who will be quitting as Liberal Party leader.

With Stephane Dion gone, and money in such short supply, it is no surprise that the Liberal Party has dropped all official references to the Green Shift carbon tax. It was costing them money in licensing to Jennifer Wright of Green Shift Inc."

Canadian Liberals, NDP and Greens: Form an Alliance. Please!
The idea is quite simple: Canadian Liberals, NDPs, Greens - get over your differences and form an alliance in order to defeat the conservatives in the next election. Liberals: your glory days are over, you need need this more than anybody else. NDP: even with all your excellent policies, will you ever be able to form a government? Greens: even if you finally win that one seat, your voice will be much larger as part of the government.

Rather than mixing red, orange and green and get the Canadian Brown Party, get creative. Perhaps parties could retain their unique flavour and still be part of an official alliance. The new alliance could be called something like the New Canadian Party and you’d have the Canadian Party Liberal, Canadian Party NDP and Canadian Party Green. Riding candidates could be strategically allocated based on candidate popularity and previous voting numbers. CP-Liberals would run 52% of the candidates, CP-NDP would run 36% and the CP-Greens 12%.

With this kind of cooperation, the new party is surely to win the next election. And the Greens and NDP finally get to form part of the Canadian government. The only problem is the parties’ instinct for self preservation and pride, especially the NDP. But after this latest loss, I hope they will be able to get past their differences and get it right.

David Aaron, RAND Corporation, In Their Own Words: Voices of Jihad -- Compilation and Commentary

This book presents the actual statements and writings of jihadis expressing their views on virtually every subject relevant to their cause. It is not about Islam as it is practiced in its many varieties in Muslim communities throughout the world, nor is it about Islamic fundamentalism or the various Islamist political movements. Rather, it is about a small group of Muslims who carry out and promote terrorism in the name of Islam. Because the jihadis' statements are often more appalling and more profoundly revealing than the accounts that have been written about jihadi terrorism, this book provides unfiltered access to a broad range of the stories, rationales, ideas, and arguments of jihadi terrorists and those who support them...

Biff said: "She was assigned a project. To find all the places on campus where you can film simulated sex scenes or where you can snort cocaine."

Biff, given the response from the school administration, I suggest the following.

1. Complete the project. Clearly the administration building is the place where these things can safely be filmed, so she should have lots of footage of the office that letter was sent from, and maybe have somebody do some lines off the Dean's and the President's desks. Also the desk of the professor who set the project, the hood of his car, his dog, and etc. Drive home the point that these behaviors are solidly administration approved. Make it funny.

2. Youtube it. Kate can probably arrange a really WIDE viewership for you, if you ask her.

This week also brought a reminder that Sen. Obama hasn't closed the sale. The Washington Post/ABC poll found 45% of voters still don't think he's qualified to be president, about the same number who doubted his qualifications in March.

This is seven points more than George W. Bush's highest reading in 2000 and the worst since Michael Dukakis's 56% unqualified rating in 1988. It explains why Mr. Obama has ignored Democratic giddiness and done two things to keep victory from slipping away...

Republican Jewish Coalition

Concerned about Barack Obama?
You should be.

Many Americans have questions about Barack Obama and his views on Israel. And for good reason. His positions on Israel are reckless.

Most concerning is Barack Obama's naïve grasp of the threats against the United States and Israel.

From his opposition to legislation against labeling Iran's Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization (barackobama.com) to his willingness to meet with Iranian President Ahmadinejad without any preconditions (CNN/YouTube Debate, 7/23/07), Sen. Barack Obama has raised real questions about his judgment and experience.

Sen. Obama told a Jewish group he supports an undivided Jerusalem, only to flip-flop the very next day. (MSNBC.com, 6/6/08) Another time, Obama called his support for an undivided Jerusalem a "poor phrasing" of words. (Jerusalem Post, 7/14/08)

Obama himself has pointed out that "words matter." And they do, especially to people who care about the future of Israel. And they mattered earlier this year, when Obama stated, "Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people." (Politico.com, 3/13/07)

Sen. Barack Obama surrounds himself with a number of individuals and advisors who are hostile to Israel and American Jews. These men have played instrumental roles in shaping Sen. Obama's world views. They include Zbigniew Brzezinski, General Tony McPeak and Reverend Jeremiah Wright. All are known for their anti-Israel views.

Obama has not shown the wisdom, experience or strength to stand up to the people who would do us harm.

Paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.

From CJunk;

Warmists and MSM Retract Predictions

In a surprising yet welcome move, most major North American and International news outlets today reported on the IPCC and Warmist admission that predictions of an ice-free arctic in 2008 were simply wrong. Furthermore, most MSM outlets quoted two studies that pointed to "winds" and "circulation", not global warming, as the likely causes of arctic ice depletion. Most surprising of all, was NASA's Dr. James Model Hansen, who told reporters, "I was wrong ... just simply wrong ... predicting an ice free 2008 was clearly hyperbole ... and for that, I apologize."

Even Al Gore got into the act, and expressed regret at fanning the flames of sensationalism ... while environmental groups around the world moved cautiously toward a more open view of the situation. Pepper Misty Leaf, of Arctic Ice Salvation stated, "We didn't realize it was the wind ... and now that wind dynamics are changing, we may see more ... not less ice in the near future ... polar bears will be happy!"

David Suzuki even got into it when he told reporters that, "We knew it couldn't all have been attributed to Global Warming ... the models are, after all, only as good as the formulas and data that goes into them. The planet is a solar driven beast ... and we need to look a lot closer at the the sun."

But the final word goes to the IPCC, which plans on revising its outlooks. "Someone, somewhere, is not telling the truth ... either that, or we just don't know as much about the climate as we thought," said IPCC head, Rajendra Pachauri's. He added, that since he believes in reincarnation, he intends on pursuing the matter even into another life.

Philip Carl Salzman, Is peace normal?

...The assumption appears to be that peace is normal and war is anomalous, and thus if war is present, someone must be doing something wrong.

But the historical and ethnographic evidence suggests that it is peace that is anomalous, and war that is normal. Even desiring peace, as opposed to desiring victory, is anomalous...

Only in the 17th century, with the development of science and technology, was a dynamic of ever-increasing production initiated. For the first time, in the increasingly industrial societies, riches did not depend upon expropriating wealth from others...

"Maclean's pulls back on insults aimed at Mike Duffy [updated]

When CTV aired the botched Stephane Dion interview, many in the media expressed strong opinions about the decision. Few stronger, though, than Andrew Potter of Maclean's, who called Mike Duffy a "despicable human being".

Well, that blog post is gone.

Everyone recalls the disastrous interview between Liberal Party leader Stephane Dion and ATV's Steve Murphy. During that interview, Stephane Dion seemed unable, or unwilling, to answer the question of what he would have done differently if he was prime minister when the big market slide took place just a week before the vote.

CTV aired that segment on Mike Duffy Live, and Mike Duffy too a lot of heat for it. Andrew Potter of Maclean's got particularly personal:

[Andrew Potter] "Mike Duffy is a despicable human being.

For Shame.

The only saving grace is that James Moore refused to be drawn in. Good on him. Mike Duffy is disgusting.

UPDATE: This is worse than the Chretien face-paralysis attack ad. CTV just won Dion the election.

UPDATE AGAIN: Here’s the clip, for those who missed it."
...-

Update: Kady O'Malley's blog post in support of Andrew Potter is gone from Maclean's blog pages as well."

Actually Duffy was called 'a fat despicable human being" and many on that night called him worse. The oh-so-tolerant left.Maybe it was taken down because Duffy filed a complaint with the HRC,it certainly would fit a lot better than most complaints.

Q: Why has Citoyen Dion collapsed?

A: Citoyen Dion was a socialist shill, a socialist ponerologist, selling socialism's Pyramid Scheme, aka Green Shift.

Citoyen Dion-Liberals, aka Librano$, were the scum who hoped to rise to the top of Canada's "social surface".

The wisdom of Canadians blew the Citoyen Dion-Liberal pyramid scheme to pieces.

This is the accomplishment of one man: Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Belmont says, "there is no rigorous reason to believe that scum rises to the social surface,".

See F.A. Hayek: *"Why the Worst Get on Top"
...-

"Boom and boom"

"But there is another theory of why collapses occur that bears thinking about. It is rooted in the somewhat kooky discipline of “ponerology”, which defines itself as the science of evil. The basic idea is that while about 5% of the human population is psychopathic they tend to collect over time in the upper echelons of organizations. According to this theory, an inordinate number of really bad people are at the very top of society. Eventually they take it over and pervert it. Although most of “ponerology” sounds hokey and there is no rigorous reason to believe that scum rises to the social surface, I think it may be true that over time psychopaths learn to game the system simply because these are precisely the types of people who are obsessively looking for a way to gratify their socially prohibited desires."

Thank you, Fred and Biff. Thing one has to remember about schools: you pay them, they don't pay you. They like to pretend they own you, but never forget you're a CUSTOMER, not some indentured peon.

One would think even an academic would know not to push around grown men (or women) with lots of crunchy life experience behind them. One would think that, but one would be wrong.

My favorite sport was asking these over qualified retards questions about THEIR lecture they couldn't answer but I could. Three of those in a row during a lecture and even the pushiest commie will step back.

(Via MESH) Sven Behrendt, When Money Talks: Arab Sovereign Wealth Funds in the Global Public Policy Discourse

Sven Behrendt studies the rise of Arab SWFs, assesses their investment strategy, and evaluates the policies of Arab investors and Western nations.

He also analyses the political implications of policy initiatives, such as the International Working Group of Sovereign Wealth Funds convened by the IMF, which agreed to new voluntary principles and investment practices in Washington last Saturday.

Key conclusions:

An international framework between investing and recipients nations is needed and should reflect the changing nature of the global market. A fragmented system of national policies is inefficient and in no one’s interest.

Arab investment managers need to adjust their strategies and take broader responsibility for the stability of the global financial markets. They can no longer play the role of quiet investors.

Arab public opinion, media, and civil society should take an interest in their countries’ SWFs and demand a more transparent accounting of how the funds are being invested.

Western governments should acknowledge the increased bargaining power of the Gulf countries and reach out in a constructive manner. They must also avoid policy decisions based on misplaced fear of foreign domination and populist sentiments...

Further to Phantom's ideas, how about your sister seeing how many places on campus she could give information (pictorial) on abortion? Like, none.
Or hand out Bibles? or support Canadian military? *That* would be interesting.

maz2:

“ponerology”

Just another way to say "feather bedding". You don't need evil people, just an avenue of opportunity for the greedy, perverse, or dogmatic, to pretend good civic intentions. While being seduced or giving over to evil for all the right reasons, wrong headedly for yourself pretending your a knight of right. People rationalize every bad thing they do into sweet roses.
Your absolutely correct though. After a time these types of psychos flock together like a murder of crows. Than comes collapse as people take their moral cues from the leaders.

"Dion spent his second straight day out of the public eye as he ponders his political future after a disastrous showing in Tuesday's election.

CTV's Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife spoke with insiders revealed that Dion is ambivalent about whether to remain as Liberal Leader, but that his wife, Janine Krieber, wants him to stay on."

The explosions along the pipelines in northern B.C. are in all likelihood the work of 'enviromental' extortionists. These people who are 'one with the earth' will cause damage to the enviroment by doing things like bombing pipelines under the guise of concern for the land which can only be appeased by large amounts of corporate cash directed towards their pockets. That is my take on it,for what it is worth.

Posted by: wallyj at October 16, 2008 7:23 PM

Revnant Dream: "murder of crows".

It's crow behaviour:

"At crow courts, the prisoner stands alone in the centre of a circle of a circle of its fellows. The assembled crows discuss the case, becoming more excited. At times, an individual outcaws the others and, like a prosecuting attorney or a lawyer for the defence, argues and orates, until the prisoner is found guilty and the court passes sentence. The judge, jury and lawyers unite in inflicting the death penalty on the spot. It is possible that you just missed one of these ‘crow trials', as the behaviour of your crows seems to fit the above description of animation."
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Wild-Animals-705/crows.htm

The link above is full of the crow, Volpe.
Volpe wants Dionky in the centre of the crow circle.
The Liberals have put Dionky on trial; Dionky's trial is underway.

The CBC is beyond the pale. Newman's on with Patrick Gossage--and before him, Susan Bonner, one of the many excruciating Susans--dissecting the past, present, and future of Citoyen Dion.

It's all Librano, all the time. You'd never know that the CPC won a decisive minority. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his governing party seem to be off the CBC radar as inconsequential compared to the REAL story of the day: How do you solve a problem like Dion?

Posted by: batb at October 16, 2008 7:43 PM

Hey, now Newman's got Duceppe on and the fact that the Conservatives "didn't do better" in Quebec.

Knock, knock, Mr. Newman, and any other CBC apparatchicks who may be listening: Could you let the Canadian electorate know what their new government is doing? Any chance you could let us in on what PMSH and the CPC's plans are for us mere plebs? Aren't we paying your salaries to do just this?

Who would know?

And, BTW, CBC, smarten up and hop to it. You've got a job to do. So far, you've failed miserably to deliver your mandate to the Canadian taxpayer.

Posted by: batb at October 16, 2008 7:49 PM

Over at National newswatch, the first 4 featured stories and ten links for a total of fourteen items are about Dion or a possible succesor.Dion must stay. I do not want to be subjected to another cbc media love affair that is a liberal leadership race. The last one went on with 9 months of nightly stories and features about the contenders which ended with almost continuous coverage of the three day labour that resulted in baby Stephane. Martha Findlay and Gerard Kennedy were basically unknowns until the leadership race, but cbc made them liberal stars. It would be very interesting to compare the money WE spent covering the liberal race as compared to the one the conservative one. I would guess about 20 to 1.

Harper has to name someone, anyone, as a rep for NFLd in the cabinet. I say Rick Mercer is his man. He is less of a joke than Williams or the average NFLd voter who listened to him.
