On October 10, The World Wildlife Fund released a report titled "2°C is Too Much".
“We must heed the warning from the penguins, the polar bears and other sentinel species,” said Moss. “We must improve their prospects for survival and spare other species by sharply reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The rapid warming of the Arctic and portions of the Antarctic is a clear sign that our window of opportunity for solving the climate crisis is closing. ”Some ridicule just writes itself.

Using the carbon footprint calculator on the WWF’s own web site, the 36,800-mile trip in a Boeing 757 jet will burn about 100,000 gallons of jet fuel to produce roughly 1,231 tons of CO2 in 25 days — that’s the equivalent of putting about 1,560 SUVs on the road during those three-plus weeks and that doesn’t even include emissions related to local air, ground and water transport and other amenities.Posted by Kate at October 12, 2008 11:09 AM
These guys are such hypocrites, they make me just want to scream: WHEN YOU TELL ME TO DOWNSIZE MY CARBON FOOTPRINT, ENTITLED JERKS, SPEAK FOR YOURSELF ...
(I haven't flown, let alone in a private jet, for over four years...)
Posted by: batb at October 12, 2008 11:09 AMIt says the trip will cost $64,950 per person...I guess the WWF can buy a lot of carbon credits to ease their consciences.
I'm with batb - these pathetic losers are hypocrites. They can shove their carbon footprint nonsense up their liposucked, jet-setting arses.
Posted by: Sheila T at October 12, 2008 11:28 AMAs we all know, some of these species have been around a lot longer than man, and have done pretty good without our help. In fact, it may be true that humans are disturbing some natural habitants, but perhaps we should leave these species alone to deal with that without our help. Just because these species are doing things we don't understand, does not mean that it is our fault or we should do something about it. The natural order of things. Ever heard of that? Evolution is a complicated thing, and no matter how much these "experts" try and tell us what is happening, they are just guessing. They don't know squat. 20 years from now they'll be saying we messed up for moving the penquins back.
Posted by: Sean McAllister at October 12, 2008 11:46 AMI wonder how this mindset actually survived humans evolution, to where we are now. Just imagine Zog, preaching to the other hunters of the tribe, " no more ice, we in danger, what we do". WAM club, over the head, "food Zog, me hungry, we hunt". Perhaps the rest of the tribe would not be so understanding. Zog would have been delt with much more brutally.
Posted by: Roberto at October 12, 2008 11:46 AMSo what about the snow leopards that are being choked by as CO2 as they are producing EVERY second. Oh wait. That's China. My bad
Agree with batb and Shiela, although I would use something a little more substantional then their bogus ponzi scheme for the enema.
And who would sign up for this? Portrait of a typical participant here.
(No plants were harmed in the production of this comment).
Posted by: shaken at October 12, 2008 11:54 AMMaybe they will settle down when they find a monkey to fly their jet, and a baboon flight attendant to serve them double lattes.
Posted by: Ghost of Ed at October 12, 2008 12:04 PMI wonder if they will ground the plane on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day?
Posted by: TimR at October 12, 2008 12:16 PMI think I have these greenhouse gases figured out.
Years ago we were told that all cholesterol was bad, then a few years ago scientists decided that some were good for you and some were bad for you.
Perhaps elitist limousine liberal leftist GHG's are good for mother earth, while only conservative GHG's actually harm the environment.

Posted by: mrtisaduffer at October 12, 2008 12:20 PMA lot of green types hate the conservatives and will vote NDP.
So we are all supposed to do our bit and cut back,ie, small cars, smaller houses, less air travel, less consumer goods, turn the thermostat down, etc. BUT A LARGER GOVERNMENT IS BETTER?? With more beaurocracy, more services,an "increased role of the state" in our lives.
They are nuts.
Call them what you want: champagne socialists, limousine liberals, and so on. They can have theirs as long as we can't have ours. To call them hypocrites would be charitable.
And, that's what I don't understand about supporters of the left. When they cast a vote for the left, they cast a vote against their own freedom.

Frome the beginning of the World WF article:
"POSSIBLY due to climate change impacts, ACCORDING to SOME scientists"
Allcaps for emphasis is mine.
You're absolutely correct, Kate.
Posted by: BJG at October 12, 2008 1:21 PMI can feel honoured, I ignore their commercials for donations. I tell all my nieces and nephews to ignore them and donate to something that is worthwhile like a "local or The Stollery Hospital".
Posted by: Merle Underwood at October 12, 2008 2:03 PMIll print it so I have something to hand the WWF when they come by for a donation.
Posted by: cal2 at October 12, 2008 4:32 PMReminds me of the Al Gore talk in Marin County where Zombietime took pictures of the parking lot full of SUV's.
Posted by: Speedy at October 12, 2008 5:10 PMMaybe the treads of the jet's tires will be painted green!! Just like those oh so fuel efficient F1 cars.
Posted by: AtlanticJim at October 12, 2008 6:07 PMIf any one has the time to google the Endangered Species Act that was passed in the ivory towers of Ontario's government in Toronto this year you might be shocked at what you find.......all manner of plants, and bugs and birds and reptiles that if found to call your property home you can't do anything with that property that disturbs the species "habitant".....well except keep paying the property taxes. Lord help ya if a barn owl sets up camp in the barn rafters!
Posted by: The Glengarrian at October 12, 2008 6:27 PMFor those tempted to donate to WWF or Greenpeace solicitors going door-to-door, be aware that the canvassers are getting commissions of up to 40% of your donation. These people are not volunteers.
Posted by: Bruce at October 12, 2008 7:28 PMIf you can afford this trip you can afford future monitoring of your carbon footprint to allow you to go NOW! Go experience life!
Posted by: Ahrcanum at October 12, 2008 7:44 PMIt is widely known that green leaners are more likely to travel abroad on jet aircraft than, say a Gaia Raper like Todd Palin, who goes on vacation by pulling his snowmobile out of his garage.
Posted by: Tim in Vermont at October 12, 2008 7:48 PMIn fact, one of the reasons they hate Sarah Palin is that her carbon footprint is too small. She sold Alaska's corporate jet. Hasn't spent her time swanning from continent to continent the way Biden does at the drop of a hat.
You would think that that would count for something with these people, if these people were logical.
Posted by: Tim in Vermont at October 12, 2008 7:52 PMThere are not enough nut houses in the world to fill even these dim bulb wacko's with them. I bet this guys idea if you scratch him deep enough, is an innate wish to see a massive die off of humans. Only than will flakes like him think life is on the right track.
Posted by: Revnant Dream at October 12, 2008 8:09 PMPedant to the fore...
Temperature differences are reported in "celcius degrees" not "degrees celcius". This is standard scientific nomenclature, so chosen that absolute values and differences do not get misunderstood.
Sigh - A loosing battle...

I used to donate to the CWF until I got some literature from them embracing global warming and of course asking for a donation. I sent them a polite email telling them where to go. For wildife I now just donate to the Vancouver Island Marmot foundation.
Posted by: tranio at October 12, 2008 11:32 PMnow just donate to the Vancouver Island Marmot foundation.
Posted by: tranio at October 12, 2008 11:32 PM
Good for you, tranio. Your donation to a local conservation foundation will have an impact a hundred-fold more effective than to an organization dedicated to tilting at proverbial windmills.
People donating to the CWF might as well piss their money down the toilet. The moment they embraced the scam known as global warming is the moment they deserve to wither and die from lack of donations.
Posted by: CJ at October 13, 2008 3:13 AMI would like to support some organization with a realistic view of how to solve real world problems. Like teaching gorillas at risk how to harvest baby seals to help save the fish stocks.

now we have one; and the WWE, based on brooha, theatrics, ticket sales and predetermined outcomes.
now I'm even less convinced they renamed the right one.
don't get me started, don't get me started . . .
Posted by: mr wysiwyg at October 14, 2008 12:52 AMYears ago, my father warned me about highflying environmentalists spewing jet fuel all over the atmosphere while telling us the right way to live. Had he lived to see this, he would have been vindicated.
