"Harper ready to give us the squeeze. Tells Canadians to tighten their belts as U.S. financial collapse looms” (Ottawa Sun, December 21, 2007).Posted by Kate at October 10, 2008 3:40 PM
How many times have you seen this comment or something like it during this campaign - "The Conservatives should use these newspaper articles to make an advertisement."
Yeah. Sure they should. But they won't. Because their advertising campaign is being run by an intrepid band of 10 year old boys, holed up in a treehouse somewhere, poring over ad copy with their flashlights and telling each other scary stories about how Dion would ruin everything.

The S&P 500 is down only 0.3%, lifted by a surge in late-session buying interest. It was down roughly 6% just thirty minutes ago. The Dow and Nasdaq are now posting a slight gain."

Entertaining Friends.
this is what happens when you live under the "Harper Regime" , that darn economist was correct and there isnt one thing CBCpravda or Borat Dion can do about it.
Posted by: cal2 at October 10, 2008 4:23 PMIts like this:
You know a Tsunami is coming but you're not sure how big it is. You have three choices for vessels, a paper bag (Layton), a wooden raft (Dion) and an ocean going liner (Harper). The tsunami could be big enough to take out all three, but you're an idiot if you don't know which vessel you're going to put your family in.
Posted by: langmann at October 10, 2008 4:46 PMOkay, Okay. Harper knew about it ,and has been working diligently to stay on the right path.
So?
Why would soccer mom's, gays, feminists, social scientists, liberals, socialists, visible minorities or French people let a little thing like the truth get in the way of a good ol' fear campaign?
Posted by: Indiana Homez at October 10, 2008 4:56 PMwhy think about the economy when you can be the sweater wearing bully at the debate table with four rabid socialists, a sheep , a walrus , a stunned lapin and one that could be on the back of a nickle.
Posted by: cal2 at October 10, 2008 5:00 PMThe LIEberals got nothing on fear.
Financial planners watching intraday drops of 1200 points this week, WE DO FEAR!!
Bloody LIEberals can only fill their shorts!!
Welcome to my financial storm, the LIEberal electoral WHUP ASS is about to arrive!
How about a -40 C whiteout electoral blizzard?
"Harper-pooned" on the end of the electoral lance!!

It depends on how close you are to a coastline. If you are out at sea, it doesn't make a difference what you chose, since the Tsunami would be travelling along the Ocean floor.
So. Where are we? On the coast, or out at Sea?

Is the tsunami coming now? Or next Tuesday? Wait, wait, can we start over?
Posted by: CJ at October 10, 2008 6:46 PMMake no mistake, & Harper knows this. If the US tanks no matter what we do because the economies are so closely aligned. We will not get out of this unscathed. I am starting to see why he called this Election so early. I wonder how long he seen this bank & housing calamity coming?
I find no fault in his economic policies . As someone said, better to be on a ship than a canoe in a typhoon.
I think where in pretty good shape to weather this if Dion or Layton don't get there hands on the ship of government. Where sunk if they do. If Obama wins, where all in deep kimshee.
Ha ha ha, that's what happens when you stay awake for 36 hours. Tsunami, Hurricane, Typhoon. Big difference. oh well.
Posted by: langmann at October 10, 2008 10:05 PMRevnant, any one with a slight understanding of the early eightys could see this coming, the chips are all in the same place including the rabid allure of poker itself. Look at the similarities, housing prices shot up, every Toms dick and Hairy started building houses, fuel shot up because there was a shortage, the stinking lieberals under Turdeau had run a deficit so long the national debt was up to 229 billion and shazam! The banks had to recoup their losses, ala 23 percent interest and service charges! Housing prices dropped here in Alberta thanks to the STINKING LIBERALS NEP, to the point people were giving the houses back to the banks and drilling company ceo's were blowing their touques off, ala Phelps. For everyone who is thinking of voting for the paisley dweeb Dion, think hard on it.
Posted by: bartinsky at October 10, 2008 11:19 PMKate, you're like the Jack Layton of the right. You can say whatever you want because you never have to actually put your logic into action.
On one end you argue that there is no financial crisis. Now you're arguing that Harper warned of the financial crisis.
Which is it? I'm dieing to know what you really think.

I shut off the TV when he comes on. How did this guy servive before being in government?

I cant for the life of me understand why ANYONE would vote for these thieving, incompetent, arrogant, power hungry arseholes. It truly boggles the mind.
When I see 20% un-decided. I see some as waiting to see who is givivng the most entitlements. I pre voted, before the "platform" why because I knew what the plan of the CPC is. Same as it was 3 months ago.

McCallum was the chief economist of the Royal Bank of Canada during the Allan Taylor years. Went into politics after he retired.

I agree, lived threw the NEP myself in my 20's. Had to go door to door just to look for work like house painting or anything else available.
I knew an adjustment, as they like to call it. Was in the wind years ago. Glad we never went that direction of low mortgages, although we will feel some of the pain from over used credit.
I think because this generation is half of ours at the time of the pillaging of Alberta, they may do better. Of course half there generation was killed off by their Mothers with abortions. I don't think these folks when they get older will appreciate that they are survivors of a holocaust of, Mother kills for the economy & self gratification of some of the boomers.
Posted by: Revnant Dream at October 11, 2008 7:31 PMThe fact is that Harper is the only real choice we have, the rest are all citizens of Disneyland. In the current economic situation Canada cannot afford to take a chance on DeYawn or Layton both of whom have promised us the sky and the moon knowing full and well that they can never deliver on those promises.I believe that I am a far better judge of how to spend my money than either Layton or DeYawn or any government bureaucrat.
