My vote for notable quote;

I predict the MSM will declare Obama the winner.

Posted by: mafwoj at October 7, 2008 9:10 PMI agree. Why do they even waste their time with the debate.....
Posted by: MaryM at October 7, 2008 9:10 PMRight off the top McCain blows a perfectly good opportunity to lay the blame for the sub-prime debacle at the feet of interfering government. Obama blamed Bush & McCain, and McCain let it go.
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at October 7, 2008 9:11 PMOoops, nevermind! He's on Feddie & Fannie & Obama right now. Go man go!
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at October 7, 2008 9:13 PMAmazing that the Americans actually know how to conduct a debate. Nothing like the circus we experienced last week.
This is much better and more interesting.
Posted by: Cat at October 7, 2008 9:21 PMGawd, why can't it be Palin/McCain instead of McCain/Palin?
Barry's a pretty good speaker. Damn it.

LOL
I can't watch it. I turned it on to an Obama distortion that so stretched it may as well be a lie. I know I am going to have to watch him lie for the next four years when Jindahl takes his job. The way he lies, it might be Pres Biden by that time.

Posted by: syncrodox at October 7, 2008 10:19 PMThe Ubermessiah has a barritone voice; this is what misleads people into thinking he is a good speaker.
Come on guys! Oratory 101.
This man cannot think and speak at the same time. That capability defines an orator.
Posted by: RW at October 7, 2008 10:20 PMPhantom: "Barry's a pretty good speaker. Damn it."
My husband says the same thing: Obama's "impressive." I just don't see it. Every time he talks, he reminds me of a smooth, condescending 'expert' coming down to the level of the not-as-smart folks he's trying to explain the world to.
I can't get past his presentation style which reeks of phony to me. He's a good actor--or, depending on your viewpoint, a "bad actor." He sure knows how to use all the right words: hope, change, yada, yada. He knows ZIP about national defence and I just can't see him as Commander in Chief. The world will be a more volatile, less stable place if Barry becomes POTUS.
I just don't think Obama means what he says. He just means to become POTUS.
I have changed the rules of my drinking game. It's my game and I can do that. I am now going to pour one whenever my glass is either half-full or half-empty.

Posted by: syncrodox at October 7, 2008 10:34 PMJophn @ 9.42, I also predict the Ubermessiah for one term.
It will be the end of the left in the USA.
However, it will probably be very costly to the USA, just as the CArter thingy was. That bad, if not, probably, worse.
Wallyj, @1024, my variant is: I pour my drink when I run out, or when you do. I expect to win :-)
Posted by: RW at October 7, 2008 10:42 PMthe ums and ahs dont make the speech very Churchillian. but Churchill had to wait for a biographer to do his life. he wrote 43 books in 70 plus volumes , but not about himself.
Posted by: cal2 at October 7, 2008 10:45 PMViewers at Chez Phantom are calling for an Obama win in November. He's a prat, but the stock market just nailed the lid on McCain.
I really hated Jimmy Carter. This is going to be SO much worse.

Posted by: wallyj at October 7, 2008 10:47 PMInteresting how Obama contradicted himself so completely in that last bit. He was born poor and got to the best schools through scholarships but now students aren't going to school because they can't afford it. But... you just said... you got to school through scholarships cause you had no money! Huh?
Posted by: Abu Nudnik at October 7, 2008 10:47 PMI think Barry may be a little handicapped by the necessity of minimizing the 'revival preacher' aspects of his speaking style in order to help distance himself from Mr. Wrong, Rev Wright. Not that I agree with him much, but he would probably be a more effective speaker if he felt more able to 'be himself'. He does have a pleasant sounding voice, if that was a major criterion for POTUS he would be a shoo-in.
Wallyj is a lush. I will only refill when my glass is half empty, and so should only drink half as much;)
Posted by: Enkidu at October 7, 2008 10:49 PMMcCain's a disaster of a campaigner. Woe is America under the Alinskyite. Palin 2012.

Posted by: Roy Eappen at October 7, 2008 10:52 PMI think the Ubermessiah will not even be a full term president. I reckon he will be revealed to be a puppet for the left aristocracy and ignored after two years, even by the liberal media. The USA does not tolerate aristocracy.
There will be a vacuumn, or interegnum, for the USA for two years. This will be disasterous for the Western world. Then, Palin will become the first female US president and she will be tough, fair, and re-establish global order.
This is the way it shall be ... more or less.
Posted by: RW at October 7, 2008 10:54 PM"obamessiah thinks clinton should have gone in to save the Rwandans"
Look for the Clinton machine to work 24x7 for McCain after that shot.
The question Obamessiah forgot to ask about Rwanda is:
"What would Bill Ayers do?"

Here's my best guess: http://pelalusa.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-doctrine.html
"So I guess Obama won."
With regards to Bill Ayers, I think Barack nailed it.
Posted by: Hannibal Lectern at October 7, 2008 11:10 PMMy summary in a nutshell as follows.
Boring debate.
Terrible selection of questions.
Obama held his own.
McCain was too soft.
Polls won't move based on this debate.
Over on CNN,James Carville is doing his impression of Gollum, scary,"where's my precious, hssss".
Posted by: wallyj at October 7, 2008 11:16 PMI'm now searching for a federal government bailout for the 90 minutes I lost out of my life watching this debate.
McCain's bombshell about a multi-billion program to buy failed mortgages and put people back in their houses, apparently on top of the bailout, is raising the eyebrows of some far more erudite than I, e.g. Krauthammer.
Posted by: Drained Brain at October 7, 2008 11:18 PMIMO the most telling moment of the night was when they were asked who would be their Secretary of the Treasury if they were elected president and McCain started out with two names and the Messiah agreed with the first and couldn't name a second. Telling point as far as I'm concerned but what the hell does a Canadian know!
Posted by: Antenor at October 7, 2008 11:30 PMMcCain did better than Obama and answered the questions asked. Tom Brokaw did his best to do McCain's Townhall format completely in by picking the questions to be asked. Nothing spur of the moment there. Obama gives answers that cannot be believed. He lies and then lies on top of those lies. He has NO clue about foreign policy.
McCain does look old but he is smart and I am sure dedicated. What the HELL is he on about over the 300 billion mortgage bailout? Geez.
If it were not for Palin , this would have been long over. No matter what. Obama has NO judgement and he is a flaming marxist but he sounds good.
And the American people are about to hang their fortunes on THAT and that alone. AND , if that doesn't work, they always have ACORN and voter fraud to fall back on.
Look for socialism 101 in the States for the next 4 years. ( they could take a few pages from 16 years of Trudeau and 13 years of Chretien and Martin up here)
The kind of Socialism Obama has in mind will be the kind you saw in Rwanda if you don't like what he decrees from on high in Washington.
We better hope Americans got more sense than we have had in the past voting for these socialists.
Obama is the dangerous kind. MOST dangerous kind.
Poor Barry will now be stuck with rebuilding a country ravaged by eight years of Bush and his cronies...including one John McNasty. Sarah Palin will go back to Alaska to watch Putin rear his head and wait for the End of Days.
Posted by: lberia at October 8, 2008 12:29 AMThere's that dreadful CNN male/female undecided Ohio vote tracker
Every time O speaks, his dulcet tones make the fairer sex swoon

In any case, frightened middle class undecided voters will flock to the Democrats, because they will "look after them" in this difficult time.
Problem is - this difficult time has arisen because the government has looked after special interest groups far too well

Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at October 8, 2008 2:59 AMWhats with McCain's mortgage promise?
If I understood correctly, and if I were American, I'd quit making my payments now. Big brother is going to lower my interest and fix it for me anyways.
The suckers are the ones who keep up their payments.
McCain is a dope.
Obahma is unthinkable.
That was a "Town Hall" meeting in name only. The only question that came close to something not scripted was the last one and if you notice the great O talked a lot but did not answer the question... again. As I said earlier, I think the sheeple will be dazzled by bright shiny things and vote like it was the "People's Choice Awards" from Hollywood. Canadians too for that matter.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at October 8, 2008 8:20 AMMcCain is no sparkling intellect, and he's certainly not much fun.
Most of his campaign rhetoric is undiluted horse sh*t.
Most of his proposed programs are nonsense.
But when all is said and done, he represents, and will encourage, what conservative force there is left in the country.

Posted by: peter o'keefe at October 8, 2008 8:58 AMConservatives have spoken...McCain sucked.
Andy McCarthy:
We have a disaster here — which is what you should expect when you delegate a non-conservative to make the conservative (nay, the American) case [...]
Great. Memo to McCain Campaign: Someone is either a terrorist sympathizer or he isn't; someone is either disqualified as a terrorist sympathizer or he's qualified for public office. You helped portray Obama as a clealy qualified presidential candidate who would fight terrorists.
If that's what the public thinks, good luck trying to win this thing.
With due respect, I think tonight was a disaster for our side. I'm dumbfounded that no one else seems to think so. Obama did everything he needed to do, McCain did nothing he needed to do. What am I missing?
Bill Whittle:
Nothing tonight on abortion, on corruption, on "associates." [...]
This was not a great night for our team. It's up to the 527's now I think. I don't know how else to get the negatives about Obama out there.
Kathryn-Jean Lopez:
The Good News
I doubt too many people sat through this whole debate.
Lisa Schiffren:
I am listening to Karl Rove blather on right now as if Obama was knocked off his lead. When did that happen?
...Don't cry too loud now, Kate
Summary :
McCain .... I'm in favour of being tough ... but I'm not going to be.
Obama .... I'm in favour of anything that I think you think I should be... blah blah blah.

Rush Limbaugh was able to sign for all those millions because he will be the defacto opposition to Obama in the US once the election is over. The MSM will give the Big O a pass and Rush's employers know that most will be tuning in to see what the Dems are up to.
Posted by: Glenn at October 8, 2008 11:02 AMThinking about the debate last night another thing that didn't stand out at the moment but overnight kinda coalesced, the O's position on dialogue with Iran regarding their nuclear capability and their position with Isreal. He said that he'd work to enforce trade restrictions and embargoes agaisnt Iran until they rescinded their nuclear ambitions. Yeah, like that has worked in the past, anyone remember, oh, say... December 7th. 1941. Dialogue and discussion are a sign of weakness, if you want to establish peace and order you dictate it when the other guy is under the heel of your boot.
