Subject: The world needs us to stop Harper
From: "Ricken Patel - Avaaz.org"
Date: Thu, September 25, 2008 10:40 pmAvaaz.org - The World in Action
Dear friends,
We're launching a major environmental ad campaign in close parliamentary races to stop a Harper majority from devastating the climate. Click below to donate:
Our message will be delivered in full-page ads, like the one below, in key election ridings:
For the last two years, the Harper government has done everything it could to wreck the world's efforts to fix climate change. Given the "fossil award" by environmental experts, Canada (our Canada!) has been repeatedly voted the WORST country in the world on climate change. Now, it's election time, and we have to make sure that Harper pays a real price at the polls for his reckless and un-Canadian climate policy.
Our first step is to target 3 of Harper's top MPs, including Environment Minister John Baird, and try to stop their re-election by telling their constituents just how irresponsible they've been, and what they've been doing in the name of all Canadians. Our ad campaign is ready to launch in these ridings, but we urgently need Canadian Avaaz members to donate $50,000 this week to get started. Click below to see the ads and donate just $10 or $25:

Isn't it illegal for foreign nationals and organizations to fund political action regarding elections?
Posted by: Dagny Taggart at September 28, 2008 3:20 PMThey probably are not going to post my email to them under the success column.
Posted by: AtlanticJim at September 28, 2008 3:22 PMSoros is too dumb to realize that Canadians resent Americans interfering in their politics. And you may be sure that conservatives will ask - loudly - what business a billionaire American has using his money to sway Canadian voters.
This could backfire badly among centralist swing voters. If I were Dion, I would get on the phone now and tell Soros to STFU.
All this ad campaign will do is remind voters that the alternative to Harper is Dion's green shift and redistribute tax.
Posted by: lynnh at September 28, 2008 3:35 PMhmmm...technical difficulties at that site...
temporarily
of course.
Might be interesting to audit the political donations in those ridings to see if any are coming from Americans.
Fortunately few on the left will contribute to this type of endeavor. They are far better at giving away other peoples money and property, than they are at giving away their own.
Posted by: Shawn Abigail at September 28, 2008 3:59 PMI don't know Shawn, they are showing $88,000 so far. I do wonder where it all comes from though. Like it says at the page donations over $200 have to be recorded to Elections Canada. Wonder how many $199 donations there were in that 88,000?
Posted by: AtlanticJim at September 28, 2008 4:06 PMI kind of wonder how much of the money they collect will go into there pockets. I don't think this will interfere with Canadians political system. The whole of GW is bullsh*t and people are seeing it. Look at GST that Dion is trying to put through, it is hitting him square between the eyes.
Posted by: Merle Underwood at September 28, 2008 4:31 PMThe Environment is not top concern of Canadians in this election. It's not surprising desperate Enviro-wackos would try something stupid but it won't change a damn thing in this election. We've had enough of our own home grown expert, Suzuki, who's strangely silent of late.
He either see's the writing on the wall or he's trapped in one of the old Fridges he was seen sneaking around in ads.
Posted by: Liz J at September 28, 2008 4:42 PMAn official complaint has been filed with Elections Canada.
Now we wait.
Posted by: Al at September 28, 2008 4:49 PMI tried posting a comment on this whack-job site, but apparently you have to be a member beofre posting...typical scared ass m'f**kers

That is the problem, they do not do anything about Americans trying to sway votes away from the Conservatives ... remember the last election when Moore started faer mongering of the Conservatives - nothing happened. It APPEARS that if it is an attack on Conservatives it is ok. Yet, if somebody would come in and support all the other parties it is not a problem.
I know the Americans would react differntly if any Canadian tried to doo the same thing during their election.

WOW . . does this mean we beat China ??
Posted by: Fred at September 28, 2008 5:17 PMAs time goes by the numbers of people who are beginning to wise up to this scam is growing. The silence coming from the believers is also growing since they have nothing to sell but faith that we are all dommed. Just a wishful theory in order to make use of this fabulous new tax strategy.
Most people are taxed out and the lowest payers and non payers are starting to feel the heavy increases at the gas pumps and in the grocery stores. They don't like it. They just want the so called rich to pay. Like they don't use any resources themselves.
It's a case of NIMPTA Not in my tax assessment.
The warmists will eventually fail, but not after wasting billions of our tax dollars and increased cost of living.
And remember folks we are actually in a cooling trend. ... more energy to stay warm, more energy to grow food on less arable land.
Let the game continue.
Posted by: John V at September 28, 2008 5:18 PMDon't fall for the $88,000 figure. This sounds like one of those 'work from home and make millions' scams. The ones that tell you to get in on the action before it's too late because "THOUSANDS have already signed up. I would guess the figure is more like $88.00.
Posted by: Powell Lucas at September 28, 2008 5:33 PMGiven that "the environemt" is a politcial issue in teh election, wouldn't this be third party advertizing????
Posted by: RW at September 28, 2008 6:01 PMRabbit, If I were Dijon, I would be talking with Soros all the time, taking his advise.
Posted by: RW at September 28, 2008 6:03 PMAs far as I am aware avaaz is not registered as a third party so they are limited to $500 in advertising. Anything more would be a violation of the Elections Act.
Even if they did register as a third party they would be limited to $150,000 nation wide BUT only $3000 max per riding. So in this case by targeting only 3 ridings they would be limited to $9000 total. Why are they asking for $100,000?
They claim that only money from Canadians can be accepted but the country drop down menu on their donations page betrays their claims.
I think that is enough to have EC look into it.
Posted by: Al at September 28, 2008 6:05 PMOne of Mr. Harper's speeches last week included an announcement that Canada would not sell petroleum products to countires with lower standards than our own. This announcement didn't seem to get much attention, but it's a very significant decision. It basically eliminates the sale of oil and gas to China. This is great news, if it really happens.
Posted by: dp at September 28, 2008 6:14 PMWho's gonna donate to them anyway?
The lefties won't even give the Liberals enough money to keep their heads above water.
They're great at using up other people's money, their own, not so much.
Posted by: clair voyant at September 28, 2008 6:31 PMHarper won a single fossil award? He has a lot of catching up to do. The Liberals and Dion have a whole rack of those.
Posted by: irwin daisy at September 28, 2008 6:44 PMFred, China gets a buy in all things environmental, civil liberty and human rights related. All the things the left proclaims to care about.
Posted by: AtlanticJim at September 28, 2008 6:53 PMAh the good old one world government gang again. It warms my heart to know our PM is the one keeping these creeps up nights.
You'd think Soros and his buddies Buffet, Gates, Gore and Strong would be too busy ruining the USA to worry about little ole Canada.
Soros is just another nut job, difference being that he has money. If Gore, Suzuki and Soros jumped off a cliff somewhere it would go a long way to eliminating hot air.
Posted by: peterj at September 28, 2008 7:56 PMI emailed a link to the Avaaz.org web page to my local CPC candidate's campaign contact email address and to John Baird's campaign campaign email contact address.
Posted by: Colin at September 28, 2008 8:30 PMI'm sure elections Canada will get right on it after the election.
Posted by: Rosco at September 28, 2008 9:29 PMWhat is totally weird about this is that they must know that Canada will never be in a position to do much about phony anthropogenic climate change. So why do they care? So what if a small contributor of CO2 is not going along with their agenda. I suspect something bigger must be at stake. Perhaps Harper represents a threat to others toeing the line on climate change. Curious because Harper has paid lip service to the scam, just like everyone else. Maybe they know he's on to them and could have an impact if he ever got a majority.
Posted by: LindaL at September 28, 2008 10:48 PMSoros needs to come to Canada and personally launch this endeavour...
Lots of Mounties on hand would be very nice.
Posted by: Hard Right at September 29, 2008 12:41 AMLiz J you made me laugh out loud - the picture of Sazookey lurking around in old Fridges was too funny. It would make a great ad. Thanks Liz J.
Posted by: Jema 54 at September 29, 2008 1:53 AMToo bad Soros didn't look at the state of the MSM in Canada today. If he did, his screed might be about "how Canadian gasbag journalists pose a threat to North America's forests".
Just an observation...
That having been said, George Soros should maybe buy some Viagra and get himself laid. He's sounding more frustrated by the nanosecond.
Posted by: Sigmund Frayed at September 29, 2008 6:38 AMya know, every time i hear some asshole talk about the climate i get the urge to beat that person about the head with a large heavy object. sheee i am sick of hearing lies.
Posted by: old white guy at September 29, 2008 8:16 AMYeah, good old Geo Soros. He and Strong have been slavering after the one world government since since Lenin was in diapers. Talk about fossil awards! As for Suzuki, if he's been watching the real science on climate change he's likely prowling around drinking all of the beer in those old clunker fridges like the 40 year old model I have in the basement.
Posted by: Free Thinker at September 29, 2008 12:30 PMSoros is a naturalized American of Hungarian birth. When listening to him speak, he seems to actually be a socialist 'one-worlder' not really loyal or patriotic towards illusional entities such as countries. If he were, one would expect he'd use some of his dollars back in his native Hungary.
While I have some sympathy for the reality of foreign dollars introduced to a soverign election process, welcome to our world south of the 49th. We have terrorist despots providing rapturous support to our leading presidential nominee. In the meantime, U S. taxpayers are concerned about the election here, not that of Canada.
I am interested in Canadian politics and keep up to the degree possible. One thing I do not understand. Since the U. S. media is clearly soul sisters with the liberal CBC and Canadian intelligentsia in general, why do they so seldom report on Canadian events? What is up with that. I am the official keeper of Canadian politics for my friends with the chief role being Canadian PM surname recall. If one relies on the networks for world news, Canada is treated as just another unfortunate flyover state. No honor among thieves.
