As the media vultures circle overhead...

...we're about to discover just how much round-numbered deaths matter more than every other one.

Talliban Jack, The Red Star and the Mop & Pail will have collective orgasms upon news of the 100th death of a Canadian soldier.

It will be wall to wall 'candlelight vigils', demonstrations, interivews with so-called 'war experts' (read: Eric Margolis) the anti-Bush mob, etc. etc. etc.

There are many historic battles fought by Canadian soldiers where we lost 100 soldiers in MINUTES, let alone the last 5+ YEARS. Former PM PM will blame Stephen Harper, Dion too, saying he's in the back pocket of George Bush.....

Let the wailing begin.....

Well if the Atlantic was so put-off by Greenburg's deception, why are they still using one of her shots for the front cover, and why did they accept and pay her for any of her unprofessional silliness.

This brings up another issue/question. Knowing the unhinged hatred by some nuts in a political campaign, why is not prudent and standard campaign management procedure to require all original picture files/film be submitted for approval for use by McCain.

This amounts to a stupid campaign mismanagement mistake.

Posted by: Jim R at September 15, 2008 2:45 PM

Just as a comparison, can someone with some free time get some numbers on: 1. how many murders in Canada in the same time period as the Afghan conflict 2. how many law enforcement deaths in Canada in the same time period 3. how many murders in Toronto in the same time period 4. how many deaths in the forestry industry in the same time period. I think the numbers would be eye-opening for many of the anti-war crowd.

Posted by: pete at September 15, 2008 2:46 PM

It would be a good time to remind them that it was the Liberals who put the troops there...

Posted by: Soccermom at September 15, 2008 2:48 PM

Sorry, my comment above was for another thread.

Posted by: Jim R at September 15, 2008 2:49 PM

Soccermom,

It doesn't matter that the Liberals sent our soldiers into Afghanistan. The limp-wristed left and their MSM apologists only see Afghanistan as a quagmire. They are notorious for having a short memory. You can scream this from your rooftop until your tonsils hurt.

O/T anyone else notice how Canadian politics is mirroring what's happening south of the 49th? Look how a probably Canservative majority and the reaction by the left is almost a carbon copy of the bile being spewed against McCain/Pailn. I love it!

Heavy sigh. I don't watch CTV or CBC. I don't subscribe to any newspapers. Every bit of news I consume comes via the net where I pick and choose to read what interests me. Unfortunately I apparently own shares in CBC and can't seem to get rid of them.

Posted by: Louise at September 15, 2008 3:06 PM

CBCpravda is saving up for this. thats why election coverage has gone to zero in the last two days. Even CTV(tass) has managed to post CPC announcements and at least one nasty article on Harper. but they havent gone catatonic.

the CBC news room must be calculating their pensions or posting resumes at Al Jazeera

Posted by: cal2 at September 15, 2008 3:15 PM

good thing these assholes weren't around during ww2. they would have been killed. straight up people would have killed the bastards.

Posted by: old white guy at September 15, 2008 3:16 PM

Our next door neighbour growing up was a Canadian infantry vet that fought in Holland near the end of the war.

He remembers seeing a patrol of 25 infantrymen lose their lives when they walked into a concealed German machine gun emplacement.

It was the cost of doing business, the price paid in lives to achieve the goal sought by all of them.Victory.Our MSM seems to have forgot this.

Can you imagine the wailing we would hear from the defeatists there, if we lost an average of 20 men per day for six years as we did in WW2?

Posted by: Kursk at September 15, 2008 4:18 PM

Posted by: pete at September 15, 2008 2:46 PM
That is a very good question, add oil, farming , mining, fishing, tourism and manufacturing industries and let us not forget the driving accidents that has happened in same time span.
I think it would pale in comparisons.

If they want to compare costs, put it up with troop and support system vs the cost of supplying court, judges, lawyers, housing in prison, police costs. Again I think that the system would pale in comparison.

Military has been waiting for years for helicopters, subs, ships, troop transport just to name a few things. The average court cases against drug dealers cost that much in the same time period.

I have e-mailed my local talk radio host (Bill Good) and suggested that he, and the rest of the left wing media) are probably gearing up for this monumentous occasion. Perhaps if we bombard the media with this message they MIGHT (although I doublt it) feel some responsibility not to make a big deal out of it.

The voters we're looking to sway will not be moved by this meaningless milestone; therefore, as sickening and annoying as this type of media is, they are simply preaching to the choir. The voters we're looking to sway will see these stories for what they are.

To put it into perspective, there have been 108 deaths in the forestry industry in B.C. since 2002.

It sickens me every time I see the MSM shout "another Canadian casualty in Afghanistan", as though they're pleased.

Get the media out of the War zone, and put a Patton in charge. Let our guys do the job the way they can, and should.

My WW2 veteran Uncle told me a tale of a Manitoba regiment doing "armored reconnaissance in force", in 1945, Holland or France.

Their advance scouts spotted a regiment of German horse artillery coming down a sunken road. They lined their Staghounds up on either side of the road, and when the moment was right, fired down into the Germans until nothing moved.

The commander, from my hometown, was "mentioned in dispatches".

Today he'd have been a war criminal.

Workplace deaths in Canada have numbered 5 per day from 1995 to 2005.

war media report MUST also get trained for 6 month in army to able to qualifty to go to war zone to write the report you can not
send innocent not know any war to danger area
and ask to get report come out right

People think war is simple issue when Canda go to war all Candain life go to danger too if we show our pasport Candain they will bother us too

media nad peopel go to war must also knwo this matter

plus in Afganstan is not war

but also is like city gang and gangster or theaf daily attack city or kill each otehr
in that Afganstan there is not
real technical equipemtn and notobdy cooperate iwth Candain to cathgh the theaf and that is why
Candain need to train Afgan to becom police for their city

the city of Kabula alaways has problem of rubery like Newyork city

My idea is this:
sent police of Toronto to Afgantan to train and find the bad people

and send army to Toronto to by their adviance device can find all drug dealer instea

if they revers this we will win
because send army in village is wast the time
they nee polic in Afgantean

in Toront we need army equipemtn to find all ruber and criminla in city by use their high tech equipment

they do not understand the systmem they onlyget fooled by that
id o not send back all the army but keep less increas more police station in each section of city in Kabul

Kabul need three sytems
1) army for air and border
2) police in each big area too many location
3) train local in each stret call them
minilocal soldure by lobal peopel to cathg the theaf and ruber and criminal each stret and few street need one perosn to like security guard
that securityguard tak to polic ena police talk to army

the system of Afganstan is not desing by army to find their criminall

it is like you swim in sea look for small pin who lost it never able to find it

Afganstan has too many mountain you can not find anybody easy there
you need rader to find any movement there by army only

power of army in city can be more usuful to find criminal and fraud peopel easy

Posted by: mos at September 15, 2008 7:48 PM

You said Old White Guy. If they printed half the garbage during WW2 that they print today, there would be no press around. Tarred, feathered and hung from the streetlights, that what traitorous terrorist sympathizers deserve.

Too bad Canadians have gotten so soft......

Posted by: Shere Khan at September 15, 2008 7:54 PM

When I was in the army a friend of mine had to accompany a dead soldier home from Bosnia. No Honour Guard, no Highway Of Heroes, not even more than a paragraph in the paper. Just him, coming through the Air Canada cargo terminal, on a commercial flight with a coffin and having to deal with customs agents at O dark thirty.

Posted by: minuteman at September 15, 2008 8:23 PM

war helipoctor take 100 soldure dead or take in peaces in middle east war with not even coffen jsut drop them and bring the back home if they staylonger they can shot themselve too

war is not mercry freind young old or child or soldure or civilian that is reason army war is real bloody reveng of politicna need to stop

one of my father good freind liked to escape of army for saw scary scene and he said to my fathe if I escape I got arrested by army I will get killed as agisnt law in middle esat that high army leave or escape and he said to my fahter if I stay I can not handle seen all dead people daily

my father has too many freind later helped him to moved his job to differnet city
the army guy freind of my father crying I do not like to back to that job and he really got scared

that is really scary seen all dead body

unless you send all homecide police to war they are ok becasue they saw dead body

or send doctor to war they saw dead peopel too
or nurese saw the dead people too
but normal p eopel even army peopel without war
never saw dead peopel tehy will scared to death

I belive

war is real ugly and bad scene
that is unforgetable

I hate war and killing people

Posted by: mos at September 15, 2008 8:33 PM

Odd that the MSM didn't fall over themselves to report the 1000th or 4000th insurgent casualty?

Must not rate newsworthy when our side wins.

Posted by: gimbol at September 15, 2008 9:25 PM

Gimbol. Right on.
When's the last time anyone ever saw a report in print or on Canadian television informing us of Taliban losses.

Posted by: Ghost of Ed at September 15, 2008 9:35 PM

when police in town report deadly fire gun late they will report name of people dead or number of tbem
in war arenot say it becaued it is too many
on other hand if we have good medai reporter

made each blood big that not let these are continue fighitn but when nobody report it
it mens who care let both kill each otehr we are wathing funny movie on TV now we like to laugh not to cry

the report of dead is important for both parts

becuae all are human and it will affect all family of both side to know the result of deadly war

i hate war

most of war from a to z is under corruption
taht is why not report
by the way recent was so many civilina in Afganstan was died again did not reported to public

media is importatn but most mdeia are notgoing there if they go they most likley to get killed unless tehy hired local peopl to work for CBC from afgantan taht might work to know the saftey of city

plus now any afgan dead report as Taleban while taht isnot really are Taliban how to do you recongize each party there too

"Katie, can you do a blog on harper screwing saskatchewan out of 800 million"

I have lived in Saskatchewan since day 1 and I say "Get over it." If my daddy promised me an allowance of $100 a week when I was unemployed and then I landed a job paying 30 bucks an hour and he changed his mind, could he be described as an asshole?

Posted by: biff jr. at September 15, 2008 10:10 PM

How about possibly at least half of those deaths because Chretien cancelled the helicopter order? These are deaths because of the I.E.D.'s.

By the way, has anyone seen any story in Canada besides in the Ottawa Citizen about how our allied soldiers brought a new turbine to a dam in Afghanistan? A brief survey.

Posted by: Nicola Timmerman at September 15, 2008 10:29 PM

To those here fixated with diminishing the impact of military deaths in Afgan by comparing them to other death statistics, you seem to be missing the point entirely of why this watch exists.

Hardcore partisan lefties and their media muppets have no f*cking interest at all in any death figures except those with which they can attack the conservative government.

These partisan propagandists sure as &#@*# don't give a *&%$# about perspective.

Posted by: Canadian Observer at September 15, 2008 10:58 PM

Thankfully I have not wasted a penny on the MSM for over 5 years, no papers no CBC, for this very reason. Scumbag 1500 dollar a month losers every one of them, gleeful at the demise of others, what pathetic humanoids these "pundits" are.

"O/T anyone else notice how Canadian politics is mirroring what's happening south of the 49th?"

No surprise. Whenever you're dealing with the infantile lib-left, you're going to see all the same tactics, north or south of the 49th parallel--or anywhere in the world for that matter--put into practice.

If the c/Conservative side is anywhere near reaching the finish line first, they start to scream, yell, stamp their feet, breathe fire and brimstone, slander, and bend the truth.

In short, all Hell breaks loose. Can anyone else smell the sulphur?

Posted by: batb at September 16, 2008 7:14 AM

To put it into perspective "in 2004 (the latest complete data set available), 815 people were killed in Canada in crashes involving a drinking driver".
If the media did the same with every 100th DUI deaths they could possibility save some lives.
