The problem is,Captain, them thar drama queens are damn dangerous.Hey.Maybe we should round them all up and put them in a cage! Sure would be fun watching the lefties trying to socialize the terrorists.I'd pay real money to watch that.

There are legitimate reasons for protest, and there are legitimate reasons for revolution...sometimes even violent revolution. You're a 18 year old suburbanite brat and you've been feeding your brain with U2 or Radiohead and you've just discovered "sociology"? Nahhhhhh...that probably isn't one of them.
I can also think of some legitimate arguments against globalization, but I doubt you're going to hear any of them hanging about on some college campus.
I used to laugh at those idiots when I was travelling in S America...cargo pants, tie dye shirt, dreads, scruffy beard, sandals (on white guys) and they wondered why they kept getting hassled by the police and other officials! "How dare they!" They must've thought. "Don't they know WE'RE going to "save" them"?!?

That article says it all, add in the 1500 dollar a month morons from the MSM and you have the total package. " Hey you guys act militant and throw rocks with your faces covered while we make a big story out of nothing, to goose up our newscast". Or better yet lets try to destroy the reputation of someone we don't like, that dosn't think like us, ala CBC CTV.

Speaking of international trade.

When a friend suggests that I buy "fair trade" coffee I tell her: for my conscience I go to confession, for the best coffee, I go to to Starbucks.

I call this the anti-modernity movement. Islamist terrorists, socialists/communists are and eco-fanatics are against modernization because that "would be bad for the planet" (or the Caliphate.

It manifests itself in riots in Seattle, and planes crashing into the WTC. On a far less dangerous level, but still dangerous, it manifests itself at the polling booth.

Africa is a major victim of this attitude. They are expected to forgo what we take for granted, economic security. They cannot use their natural resources, oil in particular. Africans are forced to use untried, expensive and immature energy technologies in the name of Gaia.

Here in Canada, Dion tells us that we must put a price on carbon, but never tells us that is virtually impossible from an economic standpoint (let's see the econometric model that accurately measures that externality), simply adding a cost to "pollute" without any plan to actually reduce emissions or develop new and efficient energy technologies.

I agree this link is tacit to a certain degree, but at the fringe level, there is likely some level of cooperation. Think of Soviet support for radical student groups in North America and Europe during the Cold War.

The anti-modernists have made common cause with terrorists, whether they believe it or intend it. Telling Americans they have blood on their hands when they have just been subjected to mass murder by a group of Islamic fascists who represent noboby but themselves is a chilling example of this cooperative attitude.

The crazy part is, as Capt K points out, the way to help poor parts of the world is through modernity, including political insitutions that promote democracy and free trade; yet the anti-moderists see this as the threat, personified in GWB.

Simplistic yes, and dangerous naive too. The result is suffering and the propagation of monsters like Mugabe, as we focus on the crimes of the Bush administration, or the next capitalist demon who comes along.

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

"Something must be done, even if it doesn't work."

That pretty much sums up the vacuous emotionally driven lefty and his anger driven terrorist counterpart. Failed outcomes aren't a hindrance in their planning or actions, not when it's all about me. Besides narcissism both groups share a lot of stupidity. Neither understands or cares to understand how the world works.

Obama is the poster child for these types. He thrives only because we live in the Age of Narcissism now. No one as transparently egocentric, shallow and poorly informed could have survived at his present level in American politics two generations ago.

Thanks, Kate, that's a good one.

That's funny. In another thread I heard Starbuck's being ridiculed as a hangout for leftists. Can I infer from this that you are a more moderate conservative?

Posted by: David at September 6, 2008 6:06 PM

So tell me Captain. How come you guys have only two(2) people running for the position of the most important man/woman in the world, yet you have 50 running for Miss America? Ummmmmmmm.

Generally speaking, vast generalizations make my brain hurt. I had to lie down after the third paragraph. In fairness to Kate, maybe that's what the Martini was supposed to be for?
