"I love, love, love this!! We are going to kick Obama's butt all the way back to Kenya!!!!!!" ...Yeah. It's really easy to see now what they were so afraid of. I have to watch that again.....if no other reason but to catch that joke about the greek columns again.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just called her "shrill". That'll win the women back!
And is CNN rattled? You be the judge.... "McCain Wins Democratic Nomination"

(thanks to Paul C.)
Now we know why they pay Keith Olbermann the big bucks - "People who like this sort of thing will find this... the sort of thing they like."
Saw Palin - WOW! she hit it out of the park. It's no wonder the left/media is in dread of her.

Sarah Palin was electrifying. I have never had such an emotional rush watching a political speech. I am excited to campaign for them.
I'm driving to Michigan to get a McCain/Palin sign for my London, Ontario front yard. (Got to counter the Obama sign around the corner.)
What a lot of people don't realize is that the majority of Americans do not live in the big cities, and most of us don't want to live in a nanny state and be told bedtime stories by our candidates.
I'm calling my election commission tomorrow to make sure my absentee ballot gets to me.

Posted by: Hannibal Lectern at September 3, 2008 11:34 PMI first heard about Mrs Palin a few months ago from a writer I respect. He spoke about her two attributes: the one from which she got the nickname Sarah Barracuda and the one from which she got Miss Congeniality. He then summed it up:
Fire and Nice.
Fire and Nice.
I watched live feed at http://www.gopconvention2008.com/videos/
She has done the job she suppose to do in very efficient way. In light of expectations would be fair to say: she was perfect.
However, I was under impression , that if she would be allowed to go off the message and be truly herself, Obama's campaign could fold and go home in 5 minutes.
I was going to write that Sarah Palin "knocked it out of the Park", but that doesn't even come close!
Posted by: Paul M at September 3, 2008 11:38 PMI don't think there can be ANY doubt about Ms Sarah's ability to work "above her pay grade", at 3AM or at anytime. Posted by: Skip at September 3, 2008 11:39 PMPalin did well, even earning some positive comments from CNN and CBC.

Posted by: Frank Hilliard at September 3, 2008 11:42 PMShe reminds me of the old SNL skit with Rumsfeld confronting a terrified White House press corps who were hiding under their chairs by the end of the press conference, with Rummy yelling:

Posted by: Hannibal Lectern at September 3, 2008 11:44 PMIt was a truly brilliant note-perfect, intellectually and emotionally engaging speech. Can't think of a single shortcoming, a single criticism, which is very rare for this nitpicker.
Absolutely vaporized the "no experience" meme, and her allusions to the opponents' denigration of small towns and their mayors, were perfect (and funny!) without being mean-spirited. Smart, sweet, but tough as nails, like our Kate!
And almost as much as the speech, I relished Jim Lehrer's despair at the long and thunderous applause, his unavoidable assessment of the crowd's raucous joy at the performance, and the talking head who opined that the Repub establishment will be relieved ... now wait for it ... at least for a day.
I have no doubt she will be POTUS one day.

That also ends Hillary Clinton's plans for the White House. [And I think she knows this; Hillary has been remarkably silent about the MSM bashing of Palin.] Sarah Palin would make mincemeat of Hillary. And yes, it's very possible that in four years, we'll see Palin as President.

David Brooks is the only good one in the bunch--and as for Shields, well, he just couldn't get himself to say anything positive about Sarah. He and Gwen Ifel said that she had "belittled" Obama.
Well, duh. He's only able to be belittled because he's such a loud voice in an empty suit. Shields didn't like the fact that Palin had taken on the Obamessiah's "community service" or that she'd said the campaign to the White House wasn't a journey in self-discovery. Boo hoo.
Sarah Palin was incredible. She's determined, cool under fire (yeah, fire and nice), has a sense of humour, she's focused, she's knowledgeable--'just the right person for VP of the U.S. of A.

Posted by: Glen at September 4, 2008 1:06 AMas Dr. Johnson said of a dog walking on its hind legs: "it is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all."
Overall, a well read speech. She's good off a teleprompter. Much, much better, for example, than she is at unscripted interviews and press conferences (indeed, if the Republicans' campaign managers are bright, they will restrict her exposure to and interaction with the press - much like they have her boss). Infrequently she came across as running for student counsel and at other times verged on being . . . let's say it . . . shrill. The latter is kryptonite for female candidates - ask Hillary - so she'll have to be careful about being too much of an attack dog on the campaign trail.
The most disappointing thing about the speech tonight, however, was its author - Matthew Scully, a George W. Bush writer (and, more ominously, a Dan Quayle writer). Hence, the speech was filled with divisive rhetoric and bereft of policy. Does the McCain team really want to remind Americans of the Rove-wedge issue-driven Presidential style of the past eight years? Explaining the reasoning behind McCain's policies would have been more efffective than mere sloganeering, to my mind.
(I'll give Obama credit for one thing. He does write his own speeches. A lost art among many politicians.)
There is one sin, however, that Palin may have committed tonight. She may have outperformed tomorrow acceptance speech by her party's Presidential nominee. And that, would be a bone for her opponents.
Posted by: Meerschaum at September 4, 2008 1:07 AMOn the subject of speeches, I was thinking about this one the other day, after some talking head on one of the liberal networks in the US referred to Obama's speech as "probably the best in the history of the world".
Nauseating, to say the least, but much more so when juxtaposed with the former - and the words still ring very true today - 44 years later.
Posted by: Gen. Lee Wright at September 4, 2008 1:13 AM"And no, Ace, not anybody can make a 36 minute speech before a large, raucous crowd with the pressure on and the cameras rolling."
Anybody running for VP should be able to make a great Convention speech (except for Biden who is probably the worst in my living memory). Thankfully a speech doesn't make a president or a vice-president. If it did, the Obama-messiah would already be president.
"Palin does very well in unscripted interviews."
She's silenced the most extreme critics for now, but I think most swing voters will remain unconvinced until we see some interviews and debates.
I predict the GOP will likely restore the status quo ante after the convention(level pegging).

Posted by: GaryinWpg at September 4, 2008 1:24 AMA vision has been stuck in my head all evening: It's John McCain giving a State of the Union Address with with Palin sitting behind him in the VP's seat in the Senate. The Democrats only hope is to treat Palin like she doesn't exist. Every anti-woman, anti-mother, anti-ordinary American, anti-gun, anti-small-town, anti-Alaska, shot they take makes them look more hypocritical. It also feeds her and her admirers with more ammuniton (and the last thing they want to give Sarah Palin is more ammunition!) But Democrats don't roll that way. Democrats, when backed into a corner tend to become snippy and graceless, like Michael Dukakis in the final debate with GHW Bush in '88. I am certain they will instead relentlessly attack Palin without shame or thought and they will show themselves for the hypocrites that they are. And if the world turns the way it should, this will cost Obama the election.

Our politically-correct sanitized shamelessly liberal society won't allow anything more tasty than bland vanilla, I'm afraid. Men can't act like real men or they are called bullies. They have to emasculate themselves so as not to offend. Women politicians who attend pro-life rallies are shunned and ridiculed. So we're stuck with politicians who have to whisper, "I'm pro-life, but don't tell anyone because if it gets out, I'm ruined!" And we REWARD professional abortionists with medals. Very sad.
I wish I had been in St. Paul tonite in that stadium. And I wish I could vote in THEIR election. Sigh.

Who says being a politician forever qualifies you to be a great leader? I am glad to see a young, MOTHER, with a fresh perspective - removed from playing games in washington. She seems like one heck of a person to me! I am also appalled how much harder a ride she's getting just for being a woman. I can't wait for the debates!
Posted by: Real mama at September 4, 2008 1:38 AMMeerschaum:"Explaining the reasoning behind McCain's policies would have been more efffective than mere sloganeering" I disagree -- it's McCain's job to explain the reasoning behind his policies. Her job is to rally the troups. I think tonight people were more interested in getting a sense of Palin as a person. I liked her. She came across as very feminine (not something you see in most women politicians -- primarily because they have been conditioned to take on a male persona to succeed in politics . . . Palin is a refreshing change.) She also seemed solid. I think the experience thing is a bit of a toss up between Obama and Palin -- since neither has a lot, who they are becomes important.
Posted by: LindaL at September 4, 2008 1:44 AMThis woman is, as others have said, a force to be reckoned with. What grace, what charm, what intelligence, what wit. And a voice that will be a pleasure to listen to.
Her husband and children obviously adore her, and daughter Bristol appears to have her mother's strengths. Regardless of the media's attacks, this is a strong family unit.
With millions of others, I'm looking forward to the debates. I hope Biden resists the temptation to take a drink or two beforehand. He'll need all his wits to hold his own with Wonder Woman, the future President of the U.S. of A.

Posted by: Pat at September 4, 2008 2:38 AMNo, I don't think the Republicans can afford to simply rally the troops anymore. And certainly not in one of their most important free media slots. They've run out of time for that.
The Republican base in the US has shrunk dramatically since 2004 (Thanks, Dubya). That fact, demonstrated by the reality that McCain has been consistently running behind Obama, means that the Rove-esque strategy of energizing your base and demoralizing the other guy's base simply won't cut it in 2008. If McCain can't bring Independents and blue-collar Democrats into his tent, he loses on simple electoral math.
And you won't interest those Independents and blue-collar Democrats with an unnecessarily partisan speech aimed at the Republican party's right wing or that attacks, for example, community organizers. You only woo these groups by showing how your policies help working joes on Mainstreet more than your opponent's policies.
(I have a grave feeling that the "community organizer" line will come back to haunt Palin. It's pretty damned easy pitch for the Democrats to knock out of the park with an indignant reminder that Jimmy Hoffa, Chaesar Chavez, Martin Luther King Jr. and Mother Theresa, for Pete's sake, were all community organizers.)
The tactical error of tonight's speech was that it preached to the choir instead of to Independents and Reagan Democrats.
Posted by: Meerschaum at September 4, 2008 2:43 AMObama does not write his own speeches, and he does not manage his own campaign. And, without the prompter he is lost. Remember the Saddalback fiasco for him. I liked her suttle slams at Michell, and all the other speakers, mentioning they have always been proud to be an american. I was pleased to see she wore the same outfit for the speech she wore when checking out the podium earlier in the day. Also pleased she did not allow anyone to glamorize her or make her over aka Michelle. I liked her remarks to Harry Reid, if you really don't like Senator McCain, do the right thing and move him from the senate to the Oval Office.
Considering Wolfe announced John won the democratic nomination, and Obama introduced Biden as the next president of the United States, no wonder the media is screwed.
As for her slams at the media, why has the media not mentioned that O has threatened to sue, cancel licences, and forbidden them to tell the truth about him and Ayers. Democrats are scared of this ticket, and the more they attack, the more afraid they become.
We'll put it this way:
Obama's weak point is debates.
Palin's strength is debates
I believe McCain will take 2 of 3 debates, and I believe Palin will turn Joe Biden into a friggin' newt. He'll get better, but he won't be VP.
As of today, my 11-4 prediction is: McCain 48%, Obama 45%, Barr 3%, Nader 1%, Others: 3%. McCain gets 286 EV.
Posted by: Yomi Mizuhara at September 4, 2008 2:50 AMOne thing we can all agree on. She has changed the nature of this whole Election. Joe Biden will be meat on the table she sets.
An Anti- matter bomb in a small package.
A small note to those who think she should be wearing sock cloth & ashes over her daughter. Most families have a black sheep. In this case as in my family she will get married to the guy, which has so far been good for 5 years now. Mistakes happen, particularly with teenagers.. I am glad she had loving parents that did not kick her out ,but have stood by her as kin. That’s what relatives do. Its only the extreme dysfunctional ones who don't. As well last time I heard, forgiving someone for the sins they do if they are repentant, is still a Christian practice. Palin can be proud her daughter kept the baby in this day & age of human life denial. Not that her daughter strayed but that she has come threw this honorable by taking responsibility. People are not condoning bad behavior , just happy to see a family weather a bad storm with a good ending, as most households do. They circle the wagons for their own, as we all do.

Interestingly, the last US Presidential candidate to write for himself was Nixon. (Which was one of the few things I admired Tricky Dicky for.)
For his stump speeches, victory speeches in the primaries and other day-to-day stuff, however, the Democratic nominee relies on Jon Favreau.

Meerschaum notes: as Dr. Johnson said of a dog walking on its hind legs: "it is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all."
Ironically, given the subject of this thread, Johnson was using the dog to illustrate his opinion of a woman he had been invited to hear lecturing on philosophy.
Meerschaum indeed means seafoam, but it is the stuff that Sherlock Holmes's pipe was carved from, a type of soft mineral.

I see two books written by Barack Obama at Amazon.com - both by "himself". I'm almost certain that he wrote the whole thing(s) by himself, about himself.
Colour me skeptical, but two autobiographies before actually accomplishing anything of historical note (most people deserving a story of their life are humble) strikes me as being a bit over the top.

Community organizers like Obama typically do their 'organizing' in big cities. Certainly not the the small town America Sarah was addressing and Bush won his two terms with. Besides, who knows exactly what the catch-all, certainly ambiguous term means anyhow.

Posted by: Louise at September 4, 2008 9:38 AMPalin exceeded all expectations and set a new bar for herself going forward, which is what she needed to do.
The meme against the GOP today is they "were nasty" and "sarcastic". A true statement is that if you are too nasty and too sarcastic you turn people off, but the Dems need to worry about that more in their response to Palin. GOP is usually smart enough to know when they are talking to the base and when they are talking to non GOP.
The challenge the GOP has is that they needed to shore up the base, so the VP pick and the convention was for that purpose. The Dems had the luxury of feeling united and speaking to a larger audience. The Dems chose a VP pick, not for their party to to reinforce their candidate in a general election. The GOP chose someone to reinforce their candidate within the party.
The net effect is that the GOP has succeeded in their tasks, but are behidn and the Dems succeeded in their tasks. It is no a footrace.
Biden wasnt mentioned, it was all about comparing Palin to Obama....my goodness the Dems cant let that happen, it dimisnishes Obama. The Dems might be the nasty ones, we will see. And we will see if the old pol Biden can engage Palin without appearing too oafish....it may be difficult.
Right now, I would say a dead even race, that is a one major gaffe (from either side) away from a small victory.
The debates will decide.....now Obama has spoke of equal pay for equal work....what effect will this have on some of the Conservative independents, like me, who are intrigued by Obama. Policies like that that (because did it include the word equal value) start to scare us. As does making 50+% of the US population exempt from taxes...tax cuts dont work when the majority of people dont pay them....that policy alone reshapes the American political landscape.
GOP have recovered, the question is the candidates next moves. There will likely be a hit against the Iranians in October, probably by the Israeli's. We will see what happens.
BTW did you notice in Guiliani's seech the references to Jerusalem and Obama's change of position. That is targetted at making Florida GOP.
Obama is a poitical talent and he has a very very good campaign team....best Dem campaign team I have ever seen, better than Clinton who faced a divided right 2x.....Their marketing is fantastic, we will see if there is enough fuel in the tank to carry them till Novemeber....they may have spent it all knocking off Hillary, for which everyone should be thankful.
Posted by: Stephen at September 4, 2008 9:48 AMI think the force of Sarah Palin's speech and presence last night will turn the focus of leftogyny hostility to other areas. Theh hatred will continue, the blatant lies will continue, but it will be claims of what she did or didn't do as governor. Less on her family.
The focus will be on actions-carried-out.
This focus on actions also means that Obama is going to move into the defensive. The Repulbicans are attacking him as being nothing but rhetoric. He can't be critiqued for actions because he's done nothing.
As Guiliano said in his perfect speech last night, Obama has marked 'present' for the majority of time in Senate but taken no action, made no choices. Obama's focus has always been on himself; he's developed no legislature; instead, he's written two autobiographies about himself.
So, if the focus moves to actions - Obama is going to be on the defensive.
So far, Obama has, with the aid of the hypnotized MSM, slithered through his actions in being a 20 year member of an anti-American group (a 'church'). Notice how the Democrats are trying to smear Palin with being a member of an Alaskan separatist group; she wasn't but they are declaring she was.
And of course, Obama's team rejects criticism; if any MSM that tries to critque him with his links to the crime boss Adler, is faced with threats of being sued.
But, Obama is going to be on the defensive. Now, the MSM will spring to his defense..and..we'll see.
I DO see the historical significance of being the first black presidential candidate but I'm rooting for Condi and Colin because I'm biased.

Let's not forget some remarkable history:
In 1872, Douglass became the first African American nominated for Vice President of the United States, as Victoria Woodhull's running mate on the Equal Rights Party ticket. He was nominated without his knowledge. During the campaign, he neither campaigned for the ticket nor acknowledged that he had been nominated...At the 1888 Republican National Convention, Douglass became the first African-American to receive a vote for President of the United States in a major party's roll call vote...

That's Republican, because the Democrats were out with Nathan Bedford Forrest burning crosses.

Stephane Dion IS the poodle! Maybe we should change it's name to Fifi...
Yes, it's going to be interesting to watch how the media handle this explosion on the political scene. Sarah Palin is nothing less than dynamite in this campaign.
Two media commentators have taken a nose dive IMHO after last night's tour de force by Palin: the Jim Lehrer News Hour's Mark Shields and Gwen Ifel.
Mark looked like he was at the funeral of his best friend and couldn't get himself to say one positive thing about Sarah Palin's knock-em-down-drag-em-out speech. His whine was "Poor Obabam. He's been belittled." I guess that just won't do, even though that's been the name of the game in every political KO from time immemorial.
It's allowed for the Dems but, obviously, not for the GOP.
Then, there's Gwen Ifel, who's had a perpetual grimace on her face since the beginning of the RNC. I used to think she was one of the better and more intelligent commentators. Not any more. 'Same meme as Shields: "Palin belittled Obama." Grimace.
I'm wondering if they all got together before the speech and agreed to use the term "belittled" because it's everywhere in the media this morning. Speaking truth to lies (Obama's got 20 years of experience...yeah, right) is not belittling your opponent. It's letting the facts--which because of the media coverup for Barry are hard to come by--speak for themselves and making sure that the voting public knows what the facts are.
Posted by: batb at September 4, 2008 10:25 AMLots of people and media seem upset she attacked community organizers. Is that any different than all the attacks they did on small towns and their mayors. She didn't attack ALL organizers, just the experience gained by O for being one.

Posted by: Grind a Grit at September 4, 2008 10:38 AMSeems this woman is shaking things up, big time. And not just in the US, all over the world. A female leader like this, she could inspire a generation of political leaders to come.

"Duh, I'm not gonna vote for her. Like, she can't even write speeches."
And if you think the line about hockey moms, pit bulls and lipstick came from the beltway, you're dumber than I thought.
An interesting side note -- McCain's choice of Palin was originally criticized because this choice would neutralize his ability to go after Obama with respect to lack of experience. This appears not to be true -- the fact that the two are similarly inexperienced gives room to highlight the differences as happened last night. I don't think too many people would be able to have credibility in delivering a remark like "using the presidency for self-development" -- or whatever it was. Indeed Obama's experience does look a bit fuzzy in comparison to hers, even though I agree they are both without much.

Bang-on, ET: Obama's focus has always been on himself; he's developed no legislature; instead, he's written two autobiographies about himself.
Is it fair to bring up narcissism as a character flaw in a candidate? I guess that would depend on who is in the peanut gallery. The converted don't want to hear the truth, it buggers-up their manufactured, pollyannish notions of reality.
For the nutcase protesters that tend to gravitate towards the Democrats, well, they're beyond reason and rightly deserve the Zombie moniker.
http://www.zombietime.com/
No candidate writes their own speeches; they don't have the time. They have speechwriters.
That includes Obama who has a large team of speechwriters.
However, the candidates do work on them, vet them, they don't permit anything in those speeches that does not represent them.
So, to attack Palin because she didn't write her own speech is a red herring. Equally, to attack Palin because she 'belittled' Obama is trivial. She justifiably criticized Obama for his shallowness, his lack of actual strategies, his focus on emotional rhetoric, his lack of experience.. If such information belittles him, it's justified.

The "Reps" are already ahead because their platform is about reform and change. The have two candidates that are noted reformers.
Jeez, the more I type into this entree, "we have the same thing in Canada". PMSH who wants change and Dion that wants "if you make extra money we will be there to relieve you of it and trust us to spread it around".
As a young nephew stated to me on politics, If you want Liberalism in you society you have to Fiscally responsible with the money. "My judgement on what young people thought about the political scale went up quite a few notches".
Be ready for the same on Canada's election. The left wing MSM will be there, but now they just can not state it in papers and get away with it. It is called the invention of the computer and Internet. We can read and state opinions that disqualifies their utter crap.
Good one for Sarah Palin, LWMSM spewing their crap, RW news and opinion blogs have brought them down. Far more informanet, intellectual and intelligent conversations on this Rep pick for VP from ordinary people than the left could ever expect.

"It's not FAIR"
Posted by: Indiana Homez at September 4, 2008 11:48 AMFirst we see this line, included approvingly from an openly fake 'Hillary' website:
" ... We are going to kick Obama's butt all the way back to Kenya!!!!!!" ...
Then we see this warning:
"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just called her "shrill". That'll win the women back!"
Time for someone to make up their mind what the range of good commentary is, and isn't.
The best, most ironic, most blinkered comment I have ever seen Kinsella make: "But listen up, fellas: reading a TelePrompter well don’t get you to home base. A good talker does not a winner make."
IT IS JUST TO RICH! Note the Obama '08 logo on the left...
How did Chretien ever win an election taking this guys advice?
Posted by: Kevin at September 4, 2008 11:51 AMSomebody suggested maybe she would sell Air Force One.
That won't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if (with Palin's urging), McCain assigns the pilot to 'other duties' and flies the thing himself! LOL
Hmm...GWB was a figther pilot too. I wonder if he ever got behind the controls of AF1?

Posted by: Sarge at September 4, 2008 12:03 PMFresh from Drudge, apparently Palin's telepromter broke halfway into her speech:
According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Oooooooooo Baracuda!
A "Walter" story has been created to be told at baitshops and boat ramps for ever.
She's the dems great white whale, the un-catchable Walter from On Golden Pond .
God I wish there was just one person like her in Canada's little timid pool of schooling minnow politicos.
She slashed through the baitball of scared MSM libtard groupthink, like a freaking lunker rips through a school of shiners.
What she didn't eat she stunned with a flip of her tail as she streaked through the fleeing homogenous mass.
CNN had no understanding of the long boooing session they and the MSM received when Palin openly mocked them.
Cruising the lefty blogs is very encouraging.

Kathy Shaidle: INDEED. Me too, the Guilliani Noo Yawk shoulder-shrugging schtick, the genuine perplexity, the beaming smile on the "community organizer" thing. Rudy was my guy early in the primary. "And the Yes or No ... wow, it's tough!" And the 130 "Presents", something the compaign will now need to highlight.
Be clear nay sayers: she did not denigrate communities, but the "community organizer" which in this instance is flat-out race baiting dirty-rotten Chicago machine politics. She conceeded the need for community organizing but made it clear that it entailed actual responsibilites. Obama is not the most liberal Democrat Prez candidate. He is the first communist Demorcat Prez candidate. A commie punk.
Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at September 4, 2008 12:29 PMLast night’s polling shows that, by a ten-to-one margin, voters believe reporters are trying to hurt Palin’s campaign rather than help. Republicans and unaffiliated voters strongly believe that a double standard is being applied to Palin because she is a woman. Democrats disagree. Perhaps most stunning is that, among unaffiliated voters, just 42% believe Obama has better experience than Palin to be President. Thirty-seven percent (37%) say Palin has the edge on experience. Again, most of the interviews for this survey were completed before Palin’s well-received speech last night.
This is from the world renowned,
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
Among unafilliated voters, just 42% believe that Obama has more experience than Palin.
This is the reason why McCain is going to win. The independants are going to vote for McCain.
"God I wish there was just one person like her in Canada's little timid pool of schooling minnow politicos." Time for Deborah Grey to return? A different personality from Sarah for sure, but she also did not tolerate fools.
Posted by: LindaL at September 4, 2008 12:56 PMWho cares how much of the speech Palin personally wrote, or whether she used a teleprompter or referred to written notes. Is there any doubt that she believes in the message, or that she competently delivered the message?
Her intelligence, her passion and her “servant’s heart” are a huge debating advantage over the sleazy opposition. After all it’s not about tricking the public into following you, it’s about leading the public in the direction they wish to go, and Palin obviously understands that.
Linda L. : You mean that highly principled Deb Grey who built a successful political career almost entirely on her opposition to the gold plated MP pension plan and is now wallowing happily in her $75,000+ per year? The populist who, after accepting an invitation to visit a southern Ontario constituency, turned to the local Reform Party president and said, "What the f*** am I doing HERE?"
Naw, you must be referring to someone else.
Posted by: Zog at September 4, 2008 1:47 PMmaybe Obama can switch to german.
"Ich bin ein schwarzer Teleprompter Leser, uh, ..... oh...... mein...... mich....uh uh, what happened to the words?
Obama losing traction like a bald tire.
Posted by: cal2 at September 4, 2008 1:48 PMSarge; you can't sell Air Force One as I believe Air Force One is any aircraft the president is a passenger (or flying).
Posted by: x2para at September 4, 2008 1:49 PMZog: "Deb Grey who built a successful political career almost entirely on her opposition to the gold plated MP pension plan and is now wallowing happily in her $75,000+ per year?" I think it is particularly small minded to hold this against her. It is one thing to oppose something like this with the honest intention that it not pass, but once it has passed and everyone else is collecting, it is asking a lot to expect someone to wear a hairshirt for purposes of upholding a principle that no longer affects a public policy issue. Her original point was that NOONE should get the pension -- and therein was the savings for Canadians -- but once the issue is resolved, and EVERYONE ELSE is collecting, there is absolutely no reason why she should be deprived. Preston Manning has rejected the penion -- but he gets very little credit, though this gesture is admirable indeed.
Re your other point, I don't know about the London Ontario comment -- what was the context? What the F*** was she doing there? I continue to be impressed with how she did stand up for principle while in office.
Sarah Palin according to Jonah Goldberg
She was put on this earth to do two things: kill caribou and kick butt. She's all out of caribou.
S.Palin is a threat to socialists/commies and victimization politics world wide. As mentioned above, she has made enemies world wide. I hope the secret service is up to the task because I fear there will be an attempt(s) on her life.
S.Palin is the final nail in the victimization politics coffin.
S.Palin is the beginning of the healing of the gender rift that has been perpetuated by socialists for decades. This is a great time in our history.
We must keep matriculating the ball down the field, we can not afford to lose our focus.
Posted by: Indiana Homez at September 4, 2008 3:24 PM"Hahaha!! A pretty face who read a speech prepared by someone else. Big deal. She is just another incompetent, narrow-minded, religion-driven, fundamentalist right-wing freak, who was hand-picked by McSame because he likes her ass."
Oh well .... even if left-wingers are unable to offer intelligent input, at least they can be counted on to provide class.
Posted by: biff jr. at September 4, 2008 3:58 PMThe left blog commenters have floating out the image of Palin vs Putin as in can you imagine Sarah Palin facing down Vlad Putin...Not!
Heh. The background whispers around Palin would saying things like: "ok, what do we need to give him- 100 yard headstart? 200? Waste him where he sits? Nuff meat on him for running rump shot, or do we just turn the headlights on him and take him down when he turns his head."
Posted by: Skip at September 4, 2008 4:38 PMSorry, Linda L, but "principled" Grey didn't merely go along. Notwithstanding that she was formerly very insulting to anyone who defended the pension, and had put a lot of pressure onto fellow Reformers to follow her lead and opt out, she LED the charge into the golden trough.
One of her several rationalization for her flip flop was that, after Preston Manning had his brush with prostate cancer, she began to feel her own mortality. I never quite figured out what she meant by that. Maybe she was suggesting that she has a prostate. Who knew?
Re her little outburst: It was in a rural riding, and the context was that she was riding with the president to a meeting where a lot of people were waiting to meet her.
BTW, Preston wasn't the only one to stick to his guns. Werner Schmidt and Lee Morrison also kept their promises and stayed out of the pension trough.
Posted by: Zog at September 4, 2008 4:48 PMPalin's speech last night reminded me of a Entertainment Tonight reporter making fun of a celebrity's designer dress. We have become so dumb as a society we think that these insulting jokes make a great speech. Obama's speech was ten times better and he will be president. Maybe Palin can take the job of that transvestite on ET who makes fun of celebrities.
Posted by: cbailey at September 4, 2008 10:16 PMcbailey, you guys really just can't help yourselves can you? Whine, whine whine, just like your big zero did today about the fact that Sarah didn't mention the rest of his "career". You're really just a bunch of whiny childish pussies, aren't you?
