Overheard In An Iowa Cornfield

Friday morning as I was browsing the booths at the dog show;

"Did you hear what McCain did?"

Meanwhile, down at the Hillary Clinton Forum...

The choice of Sarah Palin (whose name is well known to anyone who surfs the American political rightosphere) and a new American Championship title for my 10 month puppy, Minuteman Dead Cat Bounce - it's been a good weekend so far!

More - The Obama campaign is caught launching a Palin smear site.

An Alaskan Democrat - My plea is "Don't underestimate her."

(h/t Larry T.)

Just in - ZOGBY:

McCain/Palin 47%
Obama/Biden 45%...

Congrats again!
And yes...it is cool what McCain did! Even CTV had to admit it took all the fizzle out of DNC.

Posted by: bluetech at August 30, 2008 10:20 PM

Congratulations, Kate!

The comments on the Hillary Clinton Forum are a dream come true as the rats leave the sinking S.S. Obama.

The more I learn about Sara Palin, the more I like her. Washington needs her brand of reform politician to iron out the Big Lobby special interest left wing wingnuts, and corrupt insiders.

It's my prediction that as America gets to know Sarah Palin, we will see an absolute wave of the female vote come over to the McCain/Palin ticket. I think the key is going to be women voting independent and the blue dog women voters. If McCain/Palin can get an extra 10% of that vote that is now leaning to Obama, it could be lights out for The Great Deceiver.

Next puupy name..Saracudda

Posted by: kelly at August 30, 2008 10:48 PM

next puppy, not puupy... *blush*

Posted by: kelly at August 30, 2008 10:50 PM

"Don't underestimate her." Something the corrupt Republicans from Alaska would second, too, I'm sure.

Posted by: andycanuck at August 30, 2008 10:55 PM

The CHANGE and HOPE we can believe in comes not from Chicago or Washington but from Alaska!! Imagine that. I'm still in second heaven. Unfrikkin real. Oops forgot to say congrats Kate on your many accomplishments. You would be a great Canadian pol.

Posted by: kelly at August 30, 2008 11:19 PM

I was reluctant to go to the Hillary Clinton forum...
but I encourage you all to check it out!
HILLARIous!

Posted by: bluetech at August 30, 2008 11:52 PM

Thanks for the that Alaskan Democrat link Kate. Palin was beginning to make me nervous from her youth and lack of experience, just like Obama's'.

But, after reading your links and listening to her announcement speech in Dayton Ohio, I sense this lady is not your average go-along to get-along pol. She seems to be purpose driven, for the 'right' reasons.

Posted by: Jim R at August 31, 2008 12:19 AM

Congratulations, Kate, on Minuteman Dead Cat Bounce's Championship. (What's his/her name for short?)

I think Obama's bitten off far too much for him to chew. 'Almost feel sorry for him

The more I see of and hear from Sarah Palin the more I like her. She's real, she's plugged into the real world, she's decisive, she's her own person, and she seems comfortable in her skin.

When Ombama talks you can almost see the wheels turning as he does an instant replay of what he just said. He doesn't seem convinced of his platform, so how can the electorate be?

Posted by: batb at August 31, 2008 12:21 AM

Gotta wonder about the Hillary forum commenters.
Were they backing Hillary only because she was a woman? What a shallow determinant!
How about a vote for 'the best candidate'?
Will they take the 'affirmative action' blinders off and see Palin for her strengths and accomplishments?

Posted by: bluetech at August 31, 2008 12:54 AM

Agree bluetech, while reading the hillary forum at first, I thought it was a joke site; just amazing comments though, never thought I'd see that.

The big O is running his campaign like a big tv news show of the day, all bluster and no substance.
Nice to see some are waking up. :)

Obama is a toad. All sizzle no steak.

Interesting web site electoral-vote.com - has a graphic which shows each state and its electoral college votes, and whether it is strongly, weakly, or barely for Obama or McCain (currently Virginia is tied). But there's a lot of hunters and fishers in Maine, Washington, Minnesota, Colorado and Wisconsin, and winning Maine and any two of the others would give McCain the victory.

And let's not forget each party gets a bump from its convention. When the Republicans have theirs, you can expect the numbers to swing to McCain. Marginal Obama states like NH, CO, and NV are likely to swing back to McCain, and his support will likely increase in the Dakotas and Montana, where he has a slight lead now.

Which means the key battle grounds are going to be Ohio and Florida again. New York could be interesting; normally solidly Democratic, it's only weakly for Obama right now. There's probably a lot of pissed off Hillary supporters who might swing it to McCain, but I wouldn't count on it. Pennsylvania could be interesting too; Biden will doubtless help there, but I would expect McCain to re-run the "bitter people clinging to their religion and their guns" endlessly there.

And I went back and checked the 2004 election; between Sept 1 and Nov 5, the lead between Kerry and Bush flip-flopped about 20 times. As Yogi said "It ain't over..."

"When Obama talks you can almost see the wheels turning as he does an instant replay of what he just said. He doesn't seem convinced of his platform, so how can the electorate be?"

batb, what platform exactly are you talking about? The guy is a complete empty suit...

"The more I learn about Sarah Palin, the more I like her."

Same here but let's not pat ourselves on the back yet. Socialism hasn't lived over 100 years and killed hundreds of millions of people just to go away - just like that.

It takes a lady with a life-time NRA membership to do that. ;)

McCain / Palin ' 08 :)

My wife is apolitical, and a former Democrat. ( No, not the moonbat type you see on TV, think Orson Scott Card, or Scoop Jackson... )

This is the first time in 24 years I've heard her declare, "I want to vote for her."

And the more dirt the Left slings at Gov. Palin, the madder she gets.

I suspect she's not alone in this.

Posted by: backhoe at August 31, 2008 4:01 AM

Palin is a real, not the Hollywood type, lady that provides a stark contrast to the "Nancy P" like bimbos of the Democrat female gender. They chase power but always end up wearing the Kneepads....

The Democrat’s are screwed.. every negative statement Re:Palin will boomerang onto Obama

How sweet it is!

Posted by: Phillip G. Shaw at August 31, 2008 5:48 AM

Congrats from me as well Kate! The Halifax club is having a big show this weekend, I spent a good hour yesterday wishing I owned a place big enough to allow me a Beuvier de Flanders ;)

Palin? She is everything the original feminest movement dreamed of and is the nightmare of today's feminists.

Posted by: AtlanticJim at August 31, 2008 7:21 AM

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the Obama team is going to just lie there. To counter the "thunder-stealing" move of McCain, they're sure to do or announce something that the media will perceive as "stupendous" during or immediately after the Republican convention to try to direct the spotlight back to them.

By the way, when it comes to feminism, it seems to me that there are several types of women, of which the following two are appropriate to discuss:

- there are those women who demand equality and keep shouting until people acknowledge their equality; and
- there are those women who EXPECT equality and move forward confidently based on their expectations.

Palin strikes me as the second type...the type of woman that I fully support and admire. The other feminazis are far too grating and "shrill" for my delicate tastes.

And...congratulations Kate and "DC" Bounce!

In Gov. Palin's speech she referred to bringing to politics "a servant's heart". From what I know of her political career to date, these have not been mere words.

Posted by: Roseberry at August 31, 2008 8:21 AM

Ace: "batb, what platform exactly are you talking about? The guy is a complete empty suit...

Absolutely right, Ace. Barry's an empty suit, alright.

The "platform" I was referring to was the gazillion Utopian promises the Obamessiah made in his DNC speech. His "platform" is the plans he has for saving the world from every misfortune known to man. Barry's gonna fix them all--in 10 years or less.

"Here I come to save the day!" is his theme song.

Roseberry: "In Gov. Palin's speech she referred to bringing to politics "a servant's heart"."
...-

Does Palin know the New Testament?

"Mat 20:26 However, it shall not be so among you. But whoever desires to be great among you, let him be your servant.
Mat 20:27 And whoever desires to be chief among you, let him be your servant;"

When Obama is off the telprompter he sounds like he has been on the bong a few hits too many.

Posted by: Fred at August 31, 2008 9:55 AM

The Left Smear machine is already scouring the internet for nude/bikini pictures of Gov Palin. Not that I think there is anything wrong with nudity or bikinis as per se but you can imagine the feeding frenzy if the MSM actually got a hold of the Governor in anything more daring than a Hillary pantsuit(remember the Hillary "cleavage" getting everyone in a titter?).
Watch to see AP "discover" photos that haven't been photoshopped. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more.

Second best I guess would be a photo of Palin, a rifle and a dead bambi. Better yet a polar bear!

If I may add to your list:

The type of woman you recognizes that equality (legal status, and equality of opportunity, not some trumped up statistical measure of income parity) has been achieved and who no longer sees a need for a feminist movement at all; the kind of woman who see that a modern woman whining about equality is merely masking personal inadequacies.

Congrats, Kate, but honestly I'd rather see you run in Saskchewan than be best in show!

Texas; I was reading LA Times and chased down a photo of Sarah and daughter over a killed caribou. So it is out there and it is great.

Thanks Kate for LGF link. They did some good detective work on the proposed smear.

Everyone's talking Palin, not Ubermessiah.

Keep her front and center, guys.

Posted by: RW at August 31, 2008 6:17 PM

Is the clinton forum thing real???

Posted by: RW at August 31, 2008 6:21 PM

I don't buy the "wymyn will switch to McCain" idea. Not that I don't wish it to happen, but the demcorat lefties are way to extreme - Code Pink, et al.

However, non-politicised women, who prefer the correct spelling, may be moved by a successful, and straight talking, woman.

Posted by: RW at August 31, 2008 7:33 PM

Ace, the Ubermessiah's platform is:

"We are the first black man to be president". Despite all the nonsense that comes out of his mouth, he is the chosen one to be the first black president.

I wouldn't be saying this if it were Condi Rice or Collin Powell, but there you have it. These other two are people of substance, ability and achievement.

RW,

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Posted by: Oz at August 31, 2008 7:46 PM

Texas Canuk, if there were nude or bikini shots of her, she would dominate the news cycle for a week. the repubs would release them if they had them :-)

Posted by: RW at August 31, 2008 7:49 PM

Sarah Palin, gorgeous, but back to reality, What i her position with regards to Canada? Does she want more border security etc? God knows I'd vote for her even if she ran for the Green Party, but since I don't have a vote I'd like to know?

Posted by: Bart at August 31, 2008 7:54 PM

I never thought to see the left have a nervous break down in my life time. Makes my whole week. Such desperation is truly to be savored as a rare victual.

It took one Conservative Women to unravel the whole bunch, particularly some metro sexual half men. there now into fantasyland with there buddy wishful thinking, spewing malicious lies with innuendo as per usual. This time it has a desperate edge to it. Almost a chaotic madness on the left sphere. As Jackie Gleason used to say:” How sweet it is!!!

The bigger there lies, the more they cry, the faster the leftist will loose any political integrity, but there own self righteous high.
