The New Democratic Meme

"It's also a slap in the face of Democratic women voters. They don't get Hillary but they get Sarah as the first potential woman President? In fact, I can just hear Biden saying, "Sarah Palin, you are NO Hillary Clinton!"

...

"She's an extremist and an enemy to the cause that has been fought on her behalf.... Someone should stand up and say: 'I know Senator Clinton. Senator Clinton is a friend of mine. And Sarah Palin is no Hillary Rodham Clinton.'"

See a pattern here? Personally, I'd love to see Biden say that too. It would be the end of B. Hussein Obama's run for the Whitehouse.

The Dems cannot help but be nasty on this choice of VP. They were absolutely sucker-punched by a 72 year old who they've been describing as "on death's door". That's gotta hurt....

In the long run, the average voter, particularly the average female voter, will be so turned off by the Democrats nastiness towards Palin that, as I've said before, John McCain will be the next POTUS.

UPDATE; Cafferty must have received the "She's No Hillary Clinton" memo from the Dem war room. Funny, how he didn't receive one single email in support of the Palin nomination.

As Kathryn Jean Lopez over at The Corner observed, it would be terrific if Biden used the "you're no Hillary Clinton" line.

Just so Palin could reply, "There you go again. Plagiarizing."

Posted by: Doug at August 30, 2008 11:08 AM

Yes, Cafferty is in a state of explosive fury about the Palin choice. This is strange; after all, since it's obvious that he's pro-Obama, then, his conclusion that Palin-is-Nothing ought to please him.

Instead, he's furious. Last night on CNN he could hardly speak; he was so enraged. I wonder why?

His tale of receiving, since the announcement a few hours before, over 13,000 emails - from people of both parties and independents - and all against Palin - is suspect. So, in those two hours, he'd actually read 13,000 emails? Collated which party each belonged to? And they were all opposed? Statistically and logically and empircally - it is impossible.

This has become an interesting race, the mouth meets reality. Now the small-minded pettiness of the Dems will surface in all its glory. I think it's going to be an interesting race between the Dems and the press to see who falls off the curb first

Posted by: Western Canadian at August 30, 2008 11:22 AM

I find it amusing that the Dems are accusing Republicans of "pandering" to the female vote with the Palin pick. Of all the groups that would know the definition of pandering - the Democrats lead the pack!
All of their campaigns are based on identity politics, "pandering" to black voters, hispanic voters, female voters, green voters, truthers, 45-year olds living in their parents basement, unionistas, Che Guevara's supporters, Fidel supporters.
I've always thought that's why the NDP were so afraid of racism, sexism and homophobia - they see it in themselves and assume that everyone else is as racist, sexist and homophobic as they are! They're the only ones who want to discriminate based on race or sex whereas most conservatives don't particularly care what colour your skin is as long as you can do the job!

The candidate who needs every last one of those Hillary voters to win is not McCain, it is Obama. McCain only needs a percentage of them. I think he can get that.

You're brave ET I can't stomach cnn at all, like cbc, completely ignored in this household, but thanks for the info, saves me the torture of tuning in.

Agree with your take on the show of 'anger' by a so called NEWS person of cnn! So the yappers are upset eh? Hee hee, yep, a good sign.
Remember how they were on the last election?
Lying bastards. They had their baby 'mister ketchup king' as the new POS the whole evening, the twits.
Actually I may tune them in on election night, might be good for some comedic relief.
Perhaps they'll put on that queen media whore, christine amapour or what ever her name is, the one who raved and raged at the evil (read white) Americans for not helping the N.O. victims being raped and killed in mass while waiting to be pulled out of the water.
Never mind that the residents felt that the, ahem, business opportunities were just too tempting to heed the dire warnings eh?

Posted by: ldd at August 30, 2008 11:41 AM

And what's with the condescending attitude about Alaska. I've heard so many sneers similar to 'a state with 13 people and a few caribou', and 'pandering to the Eskimo vote'. These people can't hide their utter contempt for people. How are the people of Alaska deserving of this type of contempt?

I'm from Newfoundland, so I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of this type of crap.

Posted by: Sheila T at August 30, 2008 11:46 AM

I know this is a sort of rhetorical question, but:
Why is it a BAD thing that Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton?

If the Dems use that as a meme, why not the Republicans, too? Can you imagine? "She's certainly no Hillary" and show that scary-faced Hillary pic we've all seen...

Just morning coffee thoughts.

Posted by: Johann at August 30, 2008 11:47 AM

Oh and this chops off one of the left's favourite smear, one that, were the Republicans doing the same kind of reporting on a female Democrat candidate, the left would be screaming already: MISOGYNIST!!!

Mr. McCain, I salute your choice of Mrs. Palin.

Posted by: Johann at August 30, 2008 11:51 AM

Moments after the announcement on CNN yesterday, one of the "news" people was practically spitting on himself as he babbled about the allegation that Sarah Palin had tried to get a state trooper fired. No effort to put it in perspective, he was just too excited.
And biden's reputation as a debater? A few weeks ago he was a gaffe-prone loose cannon, then last week CNN remade him as a "truth teller" and now he has apparently become a formidable debater. Yeah, he can yell, wave his arms, and take a few cheap shots, but i don't consider that too tough.

We are the media, we are enlightened. We know what is best. We want Obama to be president.

Posted by: GaryinWpg at August 30, 2008 11:57 AM

McCain's decision reeks unmistakably of desperation, not because Palin is a woman (I can't see this as being an attempt to woo Hillary Clinton supporters, unless large numbers of American women support Hillary solely on the grounds that she is a woman. Hillary's supporters, I would say, admire her because she is a remarkable woman who is at the same time a liberal democrat, who is pro choice, wants to institute universalized health care in the US, restore the educational system...I can't imagine a single self-respecting Hillary supporter voting Republican't). Thus, I don't see it as a calculated move but simply a reactionary, desperate attempt to divert attention from the DNC. That it's a diversionary tactic seems pretty obvious, and what makes it desperate is that he's chosen a long shot unheard of candidate that wasn't even shortlisted. He's clearly taking a big gamble here and in the process pissing off a number of influential Republican'ts.

If that's what this is, I prefer it to neocon shock doctrine. I would rather be distracted from the truth (the Republican'ts are dissembling and took a pounding last week) by an attractive woman than another war abroad and a piling body count of soldiers and civilians.

btw it is so precious to hear supporters of Republican'ts (the party that elevated negative campaigning to a commonplace in contemporary politics) complaining about Democrats' nastiness.

Remember, Obama chose the "change" theme. He told the world the election is all about change. Yet he wants voters to support him, a man who is likely unemployable other than a "lifer" politician in the making. He reminds me so often of a young Ted Kennedy. Tedward had only his surname to recommend him; B. Hussein Obama has only his miscegenated self, underachievement (and therefore lack of a track record), and a protean nature reminiscent of the fictional Leonard Zelig. That and truly Herculean efforts at self-promotion.

How is selecting a six term U.S. Senator for VP candidate going to promote change? The invective against Sarah Palin by the Democrats and their MSM jackals proves that the only change they are willing to contemplate is the replacement of one inside-the-Beltway elitist hack by another. Born in Idaho, raised in Alaska? Clearly unsuitable. Proficient with firearms? Heresy. Next the Republicans will want to amend the Constitution to enshrine the right to keep and bear arms!

At some point "change" necessitates bringing in fresh blood from outside D.C. The push for term limits in recent years proves the American people understand; the Democrats and MSM plainly don't.

Posted by: Charles MacDonald at August 30, 2008 12:12 PM

"I can't imagine a single self-respecting Hillary supporter voting Republican't"

Then you don't have much of an imagination, which I don't find terribly surprising since you're a self-assured lefty.

The PUMA's, the people who voted for Hillary in the later primaries: those people are what used to be called Reagan Democrats. There are PLENTY of them who are absolutely electrified by Palin. And their votes will make a huge difference in places like Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Mark Steyn supports Palin. He writes:

"Sarah Palin and Barack Obama are more or less the same age, but Governor Palin has run a state and a town and a commercial fishing operation, whereas (to reprise a famous line on the Rev Jackson) Senator Obama ain't run nothin' but his mouth. She's done the stuff he's merely a poseur about. Post-partisan? She took on her own party's corrupt political culture directly while Obama was sucking up to Wright and Ayers and being just another get-along Chicago machine pol (see his campaign's thuggish attempt to throttle Stanley Kurtz and Milt Rosenberg on WGN the other night).

Next to her resume, a guy who's done nothing but serve in the phony-baloney job of "community organizer" and write multiple autobiographies looks like just another creepily self-absorbed lifelong member of the full-time political class that infests every advanced democracy."

Obama talks about 'change'. To what? Palin represents change but, as McCain defines it, this change is 'reform'. Reform back to basic American values. Clean up the cronyism of Washington, reduce taxes, confront the cronies etc.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are falling all over themselves in desperation - they've moved into immediate denigration and name-calling.

Describing Palin as 'the former part-time mayor of a town of fewer than 9,000". Hmm. She's the Governor of Alaska and this columnist (Michael Feldman) conveniently left that out. Now, why would he do that? Ignoring that all that Obama has is two years in the Senate; hardly an executive position.

So, it's interesting that the Democrats, rather than yawning and ignoring Palin, are wildly attacking her. They are very worried. She's good and offers something that they don't have. Reality.

Posted by: The Greek at August 30, 2008 12:24 PM

Jack Cafferty likes to read opinions from people who sound like.... well, like Jack Cafferty.

I wonder what Jack's question would have been if Palin wasn't picked, it wasn't a Republican state and John McCain said on the campaign trail, "I'm not concerned about a couple of Eskimo votes."

Cafferty: "So, here's the question: 'Should John McCain appologize to the people of Alaska for his highly offensive remarks to them?'"

(later)

Cafferty: "Joe from Alaska writes... 'This is outrageous. McCain should immediately apologize. We are ALL Americans, regardless of which state we reside. These remarks show that McCain does not treat all Americans equally. Shame on him!"

Cafferty: "Wolf, a lot of outrage out there... The Democrats have the election wrapped up."

Anyway, McCain kinda did pick the wrong VP candidate. He should have picked Gene Simmons. Gene's a self-described conservative, he has star power that dwarf's Obama's (he's a REAL god), would have raised 10 times what Obama did, and he's far more charismatic than Obama is or ever could be, not to mention his overall business smarts. Gene scores a perfect 10 in all categories on The Official Cool Index.

To prevent being seen as sexist, the Dems are sure to trot out some old feminist nags to attack her. Likely ones with academic credentials from Ivy league schools. The attacks will be of the elitist kind. Palin went to the a second rate university, is a backwoods hick, unenlightened on women's as eternal victims issues, a beauty pageant Barbie doll ...and so forth. If she can counter them with reasoned and unemotional answers, y'know in the typical conservative style, she will resonate and pick up votes. Both from people that will feel offended by such snobbish attacks and all of those impressed with her mettle if she defends herself well.

Small-minded leftist bigotry was in full view -- anti-rural, misogynist ( Don't think for yourself, just vote and believe the way you're supposed to according to east coast ivy-league elites, ladies.) and anti-native -- heaven forbid that one would court the Eskimo (do you mean Inuit?) vote versus say, the "black vote". Viewing that was most heartening insofar as it exemplifies Ann Coulter's truism that the closer you can get a liberal to red-faced, sputtering, impotent rage, the closer you are to the truth.

That clip is from CNN and that means they may have had a viewer ship for this of about one and half million. That is less than on half of a percentage point of Americans.

In effect, no one saw it. Most Americans (like Canadians) don't do a lot of research or put a lot of thought into what they vote for.

Most will like her looks and her outdoorsy spirit. McCain is more credible than Obama who is scary to say the least.

The left is freaking on this great choice for Veep and they are beside themselves trying to figure out how discredit it without appearing misogynistic.

What if McCain croaks in office? I would rather have a gun toting hockey mom with a son in Iraq than a latte sipping elitist, pacifist Negro from Chicago, dealing with our enemies.

Actually I would have felt much better if Hillary would have gotten the nod. I believe she has what it takes to pull a trigger.

McCain/Palin will win and the dems with go further insane than they already are.

Most of us know that politicians are not necessarily smart, they have smart people advising them. What they need to know to get up to speed is not all that difficult to grok.

Palin is obviously a very smart person and will be quick study of a job that was held by dullards who managed to do a decent job of it. She is a high enrgy woman and will make something more out of this job than is required.

I look forward to watching her career develop. And if she should become the first female prezzie ever ... I couldn't think of a woman I feel better about being the one.

The job of president is NOT for the meek. Obama and Biden are meek. Meek = weak. Jimmy Carter showed us what meed and weak can do.

Lieberman's supposed to speak at the Republican't National Convention. It'll be interesting to hear what he says.

Hey The Greek thanks for pointing me to new reading material. :) Were that the issue is only one of etiquette and decorum. The Republicant's redefined politics not as the art of governance and achieving the common good, but as the win at all costs business of fundraising and scurrilous personal attacks. People like Rove re-wrote the book on ruthless petty partisan attacks and permanent negative campaigning. Sadly, this has become standard in contemporary politics and shamelessly is finding its way into Canadian politics through the Liberals and the Harper Conservatives. And yes, I agree with you that these petty tactics have become pervasive, including the political Left, by which I mean socialists/ communitarians. I guess we have two choices, either agree not to reward these kinds of petty tactics by voting for people who deploy them and by actually demanding substantive platforms from our politicians (not very likely at this stage) or we agree that no one has a right to feel indignant about petty negative politics. Just throwin this out for comment. I believe the question of voter apathy and disaffection and negative campaigning are two of the most pressing issues at a time when we continually see historic lows in voter participation. (Could it be they're related?)

Anyways, the more America learns about Sarah Palin the more they will be saying "Hillary who?" She's a hoot and the MSM will have to be very careful how they handle her. Sarah's acknowledgement that it was Geraldine Ferraro who originally broke the glass ceiling was also very telling. Ferraro was on Fox later in the day and commented that Sarah was the first one to state so publicly that she was the first woman to go for the whitehouse. Ferraro had said that even Hillary never ever acknowledged that fact to her. Ferraro was the lady, if you remember, who was a major Hillary backer and the Obama camp called her a racist and she excused herself from Hillary's campaign after that. The Dems, and the left in Canada, have taken advantage of the woman vote for far too long. The republicans only ned a % of that vote, and palin will deliver it for them.

McCain/Palin win the whitehouse Nov 08.

Details are still sparse and this reporter appreciates the strangeness of a hurricane as a running mate, however it must be said that GUSTAV has bumped Her Holy Hotness Sarah Palin out of the headlines, and Democrats are pleased about that. Its enough for me to run with.

Bill Stewart. I agree that the Republicans are the more aggressive attack ad types in the US political scene. I do not, however, see it you way on the CPC and Harper. Who can forget the women having abortions in alleys, while being shot by an unregistered handgun, with aircraft carriers available if needed.

How Grits can talk about American style Tory ads with a straight face is amazing to me.

At most, Harper is simply playing the Grit's game. Criticize away, but that seems more the reality to me.

BTW, I thought both Democrats and Republicans made nice VP choices, filling in both tickets. I still think McCain will win in November, but it should be a good campaign, and fairly close.

Biden I know well, but Palin is new to me. She does seem to have some smarts, and the Dems should be careful with their criticisms, especially her experience.

I think Traver's argument that the "conservative ideology" is in decline is ridiculous. BTW, Iain Hunter's idiotic comparison of Harper to Mugabe is further evidence the left, particularly the Liberals, are experts at nasty.

I really bugs them, when anyone throws it back at them. BTW, Bill, Harper will likely change gears and make nice homespun policy during the coming election campaign. As Jane Taber's article notes, quoting one of his people, he's ahead of everyone else.

We will see.

America is divided pretty much 50-50 along the major issues. What it all comes down to is mobilizing your base voters. The Dems have done that with the BIG O. The GPO needed to and I believe have with this VP pick. It will a close election. All the rest is baloney.

David Frum on Palin --
A couple of readers have written to remind me of these comments of Karl Rove about the possibility that Barack Obama might choose Tim Kaine of Virginia as a running mate:

"I think [Obama's] going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice," Rove said. [...]
"With all due respect again to Governor Kaine, he's been a governor for three years, he's been able but undistinguished," Rove said. "I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America."

Sarah Palin has been a better governor than Tim Kaine, most would agree. But does her selection look more like a"an intensely political choice" than a "governing choice"?

Don't all men feel insulted that Joe Biden was selected as the Obama's running mate. I don't know. They expect American men to vote for Obama just because Joe Biden is a man.

The arguments made that the selection of Palin as running mate simply because she is a woman are crass in the very least. Just like putting Obama on the front of the Democratic ticket means that all people of colour will vote for him.

I am really sick of news organizations cheerleading for Obama. Let's report some news.

I guess if we keep the CBC we know the bias WAY up front.... Privatize it anyhow. It might save us a few dollars in taxes, or perhaps we could send the money to our military.

Most Americans don't even know that the news networks in the US are "in the tank" for Obama.

Posted by: Geoff at August 30, 2008 3:46 PM

Senator McCain apparently struck a nerve. When the MSM switches instantaneously from "All Obama all the time" to "Palin and nothing but" you know you have scored. The level of rage is a direct measure of the success. If Palin didn't matter, there would be nothing but "sniff, sniff, move along".

Speaking of David Frum, how about this stupid comment from him:

" the destiny of the free world would be placed in the hands of a woman who until the day before Friday was a small-town mayor."

Um, David she was the Governor of the state of Alaska on Friday. How did you miss that? "Small-town mayor" she was at one time, which on the face of it means she has executive experience whereas BHO has zip.

Call me crazy, but I would chose a grocers daughter (Maggie Thatcher) or a onetime small businesswoman who has met payroll like Palin before I would cast a vote for a career politician like either BHO or Biden.

You learn all about performance running a small business, you learn all about motivating staff when you are the chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. You learn how to take advice when you are the Governor of a state, and perhaps most importantly, you learn how to evaluate options when you are taking on corruption in her own party as Palin did SUCCESSFULLY in Alaska.

While Palin was clubbing salmon, slapping city counselors around, strangling corruption and governing a state, BHO's found and kept his lips glued to the public tit. Like most snivel servants he managed to produce absolutely nothing of value in return. Palin is winner. BHO is a mirage.

Good luck with your line of attack Dem's. Hope you choke on it.

Hmmmm. The poster boy of image over substance or Palin with her finger on the nuclear trigger. Palin hands down.

It is not prudent to look to political messiahs to make a better world. All things being equal however, it was entertaining to briefly sense the undercurrent of thwarted bully rage from CNN and other talking heads last night.

As for the Democrats, "Change" was a great idea as long as it involved getting the Dem. lackies back to the public trough and the opportunity to lavish on the little people (Gov't "of the people, by the people, for the people", and the Dems. define who real people are; right-thinking liberals from all walks of Harvard, Princeton and Yale... and full-term babies not requested to emerge dead..) all of the Programs, "Community Organizations" and Re-Education they don't have the sense to procure for themselves.

Don't you have to wonder how these Masters of the Universe have so much time and energy to expend on excoriating the Republican VP choice? After all, McCain is of little account as Sparrows' Tears, if the "Don't know much about..." ad running last night is anything to go by. Winston Churchill is supposed to have said, "One never reaches one destination when walking by stopping to throw stones at every dog that barks at him." Why expend this emotional and logistical energy on the "Bottom Gun" McCain and his Annie Oakley sidekick when they have just broken camp for a season of lowering ocean levels and generally fixing everyhing wrong with planet earth -- wouldn't they want to share their euphoria over that, with all the Eskimo's out there?

As for Obama, the community organizer; here's one response he couldn't organize because not only couldn't he anticipate such a twist of fate, he can't conceive, neither can any of the Borg Collective, of an intelligent, right-thinking, neigbourly woman of integrity and distinction is is not frantic to meld with the Universal Mind. Community Organizer over here is just a euphemism for Political Commissar, and in effect that is just how the Democrats are reacting to this turn of events. This wholly disproportionate disapproval again shows clearly that Obama really is a rhetorician but not a leader.

But if you're a Democrat, don't be the first to stop clapping for the Leader.

Hillarious! Mclame didn't even know the woman before his advisors told him to pick her. This is purely a desperate political stunt and will backfire after the debates if not before. She's a very regular, fine looking woman with some modest accomplishments but ready to be the POTUS. LOL! Yeah, I can just see her meeting Putin at a conference- he'll be quaking in his boots. This is big news only for the shock factor. He picked who? YOu guys actually think yr own comments or asskissing GOP dittoheads reflect a true unbiased judgement on her strengths and weaknesses. HAHAHA Mark Stenyn - OMFG - Don't you recall his predictions for the last midterm elections - every single one of them wrong. You have them on this site somewhere. It's incredible how frightened the left is - they are out in full force, hysterically villifying Palin.
I won't even repeat some of the allegations; they are personal and deeply offensive. But they reveal that the left is very scared.

After all, if they thought that she was the non-entity they are declaring her to be, they'd ignore her with a yawn.

Instead - they are raging at her, trying to discredit her - calling her a 'small-town' mayor (ignoring that she's the Governor of a State); trying to declare her incompetent, unready to meet heads of state. Heh - as if Obama the Empty was able to do so! He can't speak except with a teleprompter and he only talks about himself.

So, it's quite something to see the left fall over itself as it tries to figure out how to deal with Palin.

As someone who doesn't particularly like McCain, I'd have to say this was a brilliant move on his part. McCain hasn't been a particularly strong supporter of the 2nd Ammendmant in the past, but Sarah Palin makes up for this deficiency being a life member of the NRA. Obama had a chance to select HRC as his vice presidential candidate which would have made his chance of winning far greater.

Clearly, the Left now has nothing to go on but stupid, meaningless, unsupported namecalling like "extremist" and so on.

And they'll never, never make any case whatsoever to back up their namecalling and accusations of their opponent being all kinds of nasty stuff.

They're going to play nasty, nastier than ever. Watch the Left self-destruct wildly this campaign!

The Left is going to wage a jihad of sorts.

Just watch the moonbats take to the streets comparing Palin to all kinds of dictators and butchers, instead of protesting Darth Vladimir's invasion, occupation and ethnic cleansing in Georgia.

After all, anyone who's not a Leftist is the worst person in the world, as far as Leftists are concerned. And that any woman who's not a FemiNazi is a monster.

The Leftist "demonstrations" will all be fake and the "demonstrators" will only demonstrate that they haven't got functioning minds, that they're all haywire, don't know a bloody thing at all and are just full of the hatred they had fed to them by the Far Left. They don't represent the "American People" at all, but rather the Ultra-Far-Extreme, Anarchist Left. They'll be organized by the Far Left, rounding up brainless, manipulable, drugged-up youth to act like savages in the streets...

And the mainstream media will definitely be there, giving the wild moonbats all the coverage possible, consitututing free negative, dishonest, attack advertising for the Demmies.

The Democrats' strategy is now to demonize their opponents so as to try to prevent as many voters as possible from defecting from their side to the Republican side. No longer have the Democrats any confidence; they're in full panic mode. And like monkeys, that's when they begin to chuck their crap.

Reading works such as "Mein Kampf", you'll find the same paranoid obsessive rants against everyone who blocks the ambition of or works against one's notion of a properly constituted New World Order. They are uniformly of lower intelligence, ignorant fools.

Well, verbal eugenics are still preferable to the real kind. But it's only a matter of how many are willing to go along with it.

Governor Palin, as her record shows, does not suffer fools. For this reason, the majority of the yapping heads in the msm and the creepy lefties will be 'out of the loop' should she become VP.

Most Americans, like most Yukoners and Alaskans, will be cheering from the cheap seats for a Lady who stands up for for the ideas and values that we believe keep ourselves and our counties great. Governor Palin leads by example as verses the blah, blah ,blah lecturing technique used by 'others'.

This is the First Lady in this election and real people will appreciate her sterling character at the voting booth.

John McCain saved us from from the Bolsheviks in the final weeks of this election. For that, I commend him. Zell Miller and I will be able to sleep again.

"Does anyone believe that this irrational Leftist hatred of Sarah Palin will subside"

No, because as one wag put it:

"Leftism, and liberalism, and progressivism, and etc-ism. are not merely simple politics for most of these people. Their politics to them are a core part of their identity, and, more importantly, a central support propping up their egos. They are enlightened because they believe these things; someone who does not believe these things, and yet who, superficially at least, appears to be about as smart as they might be, represents a threat to their egos. The foundation upon which a crucial structure of their sense of self-worth is undermined if they discover that there may be people who can pass as normal and intelligent and yet do not believe as they do."

Posted by: RCGZ at August 30, 2008 5:33 PM

In one of the emails he McCaffery read, Palin is

"..a pro-life, gun-toting, home-schooling nobody.."

I guess gun-toting, crack-dealing school dropouts would be more acceptable candidates?

Does this man know that one of the Heisman Trophy candidates (if not the winner?) last year was a homeschooled kid? Or that home schoolers are winning University scholarships (that is, academic scholarships) and doing all sorts of fantastic things.

Home schooling nobodies were involved in the lives of, say, Abraham Lincoln, famous nobody, Thomas Edison.... there's more, so much more.

Wonder if this writer would prefer these home schooling mom's would do their duty to society by going "back to work", enrolling their kids in the "No child left behind" or "head start" or whatever, to be properly socialized by thirty-year old characters from "I am Charlotte Simmons" with help from Dewey, Kinsey and Sangster.

- A lament in honour of the democratic ticket, CNN and the Clintons:

"Well the oceans part when I walk through, the clouds dissolve the sky turns blue, I'm held in very great value by evr'yone I meet but YOU. EV'RYBODY loves me baby, what's the matter with YOU? Won't you tell me WHAT did I do, to offend you?"

They'll be needing to hire a few more Political Commissars to keep the comrades in line. God forbid that any of "Hillary's Millions" should desert the soul-annihilating, spiritually sandblasting rhetoric of the liberals (of whom many could accurately described by the famous phrase "vice praising virtue") for a human being is really is "of the people".

Bill Stewart:

You might want to look at "democratsformccain". That's one of a few sites for disaffected dems. A bunch of them were interviewed on the Daily Show last week - and these were people who had invites to the DNC, so you know they had done some important work for the party. They felt that Hillary got jobbed by the press and the party, so they are voting for McCain.

But as for Hillary - interesting reading in this month's Atlantic (and online at www.atlantic.com) about her campaign. Apparently, it was a mess of backbiting, bickering, and dissension, and the story is backed up by multiple emails from her campaign staff. Her campaign had only one goal: to get her elected, and she couldn't put together a cohesive strategy or team to do that. She had $100 million a few weeks before the Iowa caucuses, and it was all gone just after. Excellent fiscal management. And perhaps most telling, she dithered repeatedly about whether to go on the attack against Obama. She wouldn't do it for months, and when she finally released the "3 AM" commercial, apparently it was Bill who made the decision. She positions herself as "strong" on national security, but she's afraid to point out the inconsistencies and questionable relationships of a domestic political opponent? One of her strategists suggested running a commercial showing Obama sitting next to that wacko Reverend (Wright?) going through his "Goddam America" shtick. That would have driven white men (who apparently supported Obama more than Hillary) back into her camp, but she was too timid to authorize it.

I just don't know where this myth of Hillary as "competent" comes from. She made a hash of her medical insurance plan, and a wife might not know of one or two affairs, but Bill apparently had plenty. She didn't run her campaign competently, and she mismanaged her money. That's quite an impressive resume.

Mrs. Palin, on the other hand, ran two campaigns as an underdog on shoestrings, and won both. She then managed to put together an effective team to root out corruption, and run a competent government. With five kids, she apparently, ahem, keeps her husband happy. Finally, as a huntress and fisherwoman, she probably cares more about sustainable development than so-called greens who only see fish when it's served to them at a restaurant. I'd much rather see her in charge than HRC or BO.

McCain checked his hole cards, slyly grinned, thoughtfully wrapped his hands around the stacks of chips setting in front of him, slowly and deliberately pushed them into the middle of the table, looked Obama straight in the eye, and announced "I'm all in". Then he winked...

Obama broke into a sweat. Call or fold? Call or fold? Oh... I wasn't expecting that bet. Call or fold?

"Both today’s National Toast and Gobbin’ Male have big headlines describing Palin as a gun tottin,’ pro life, hockey mom;"

Gobbin' Male; perfect!

We English describe empty rhetoric as "Gobbing Off".

Every parasite a wanted parasite! No birth certificates until perinatal fetus has reached age of three months without medical problems and is wanted by mother (sorry, primigravidum), father and siblings.

Obama is right to deeply distrust the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. Who in his right mind calls an unwanted fetus who accidently survives medical "treatment", an "infant" as though a real person entitled to the full protection of the law! The whole purpose of the doctor appointment was to prevent the "fetus" from becoming a person! And to protect the "patient's" right to privacy. To talk as though the half-dead "fetus" were an infant clearly violates doctor-patient confidentiality and the patient's constitutionally protected rith to privacy! You can't just go around calling the pitiful human rubble an infant just because it accidentally drew breath outside the birth canal!

As Mr. Obama says, women only do these sorts or things after profound moral consideration with their doctors and pastors. A dead fetus she wants, a dead fetus she shall have. What kind of a country would America be if you couldn't get what you (or your health insurance) paid for anymore?

Anarchy!

Yes, liberals are right to detest this woman Palin, while all along deeply respecting her right to CHOOSE! (They don't have to say it; we can see it on their faces)

I also wonder where all our Liberal media thinks we are going to get our soldiers from if nobody is allowed to hunt or shoot and all children are taught that guns are evil. The rest of the world is certainly not going to respect our decision to disarm.

Palin will be portrayed as an extremist by the media, for sure.

By the way we have our own career politicians in this country like Justin Trudeau who is just waiting for his turn.

Kudos to McCain - you sure want him on your side in a tight corner.

There was a great article in Atlantic Monthly some time ago, called "The Army we Have", about the trouble the US military has getting men of good character who are willing to put up with the necessary training. Good insights into American youth.

CS Lewis wrote, in "The Abolition of Man", that if we laugh at honour we will get "men without chests" and should not be then surprised if we get corrupt leaders and bad civilians.

Speaking of walking the walk, let's give a tip of the hat to the Graeco-Roman forebearers of our Western Civilization. They had the pro-choice thing worked out. Didn't like or want your offspring? Leave them in a handy ditch or field as the sun sets. Throw them off a cliff like the Spartans did. Paterfamilias made the decision, no committees (remember the days of the dreaded TAC?); no pesky laws against infanticide. No time-wasting, economy-sapping, human-rights violating senatorial discussions or private members' bills.

Regretfully, the supercession of Rome over Greece, followed by it's collapse and the emergence of Christendom, spelled and end to those Halcyon days. The West has however perfected one of Plato's suggestions, that is to remove the offpring from parental custody and have them brought up by the state. In that, Sarah Palin is an enemy of the state; imagine wanting to socialize her own children, and thinking just because she is well educated, bright, resourceful and accomplished she has any business thinking she's an Educator capable of teaching her own kids!

Anarchy!

Interestingly enough, I flipped on the tv last week (some book to movie channel I believe ) and caught a discussion going on about the National Post; and the three commentators were all stating how much it has gone hard left and not at all what it use to be.
So certainly could be she's 'pressured' to write this crap, perhaps that's why it's also rather on the weak side as far as writing about a VP electoral pick in a neighbouring country.

Posted by: ldd at August 30, 2008 8:31 PM

To bad Tim R isn't here to give his take on this.
Loved the comment, did O pick Biden to get the male vote.
Maybe Wolf will be asked that.
Anyone catch Larry King last night when he asked,
Do you think she can be elected POTUS.
Sort of like O introducing Biden as the next POTUS, then amending it to next VP, funny that is not being replayed over and over. Guess he really does need a teleprompter and someone to write his words for him.

I'm beginning to wonder. I used to really enjoy Don Martin's commentary as well, but over the last few months, I've noticed his opinion pieces have taken a sharp turn left as well (at least, IMO).

I certainly wouldn't say the editorial bent of the publication has turned "hard left", but I am beginning to wonder if the Aspers are starting to exert more liberal influences on the columnists.

I will continue to watch with a sharp eye........

Diane Francis is guilty of the typical enlightened feminist vice: green envy.
Pallin trumps them all and the older females look like pathetic whiners who needed this or that (regulations grants whatever) to help them along. But Pallin seems to be doing it all and in one of the frontier state, presumably filled with "bitter gun clingers religious red necks" and yet she managed to break through the "glass ceiling" hahahaha.
The old cacklers are infuriated because a woman with talent is succeeding more then they are and in a way more challenging position.

Holy crap, I'm going to be comment #105.

She's an extremist and an enemy to the cause that has been fought on her behalf....

What cause is that??? Feminism? Yes, I suspect that is the cause you talk of. And, what is the objective of "feminism?":? Maybe, wymynm to be in power. And, isn't the babe from Alaska a woman power"?

Exit stage left, democrat hypocrits.

No Mr Biden I am not Hillary Clinton

I am the Governor of Alaska
I am the mother of 5 children
I have a loving nuturing husband
I am my own woman

We maybe political opponents, but we can debate in a civilized manner.

There is no need for personal attacks.

This woman will be the first female POTUS

I gues you are "new at" trying to fake Americanality. You are a foreign ignorant person.

Posted by: RW at August 30, 2008 8:57 PM

CJ, I have followed Don Martin since he moved to Ottawa. He is being taken by the Borg. Which is the liberal establishment.

This is why the conesrvative party must produce a crushing defeat of the liberal party and push the liberalists out of their established positions.

CAUGHT ON VIDEO !!

[On a plane from Denver to Charlotte following the Democrats' convention, I found myself seated behind former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler and Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina. Their conversation was interesting to say the least.

For example, they made fun of Sarah Palin for several minutes, Fowler calling her "Dan Quayle" on steroids and Spratt creatively describing her as "just terrible." They both agreed that, "Other than the simple fact that she's a female," she has nothing to offer.]

And they also made fun of loss of life and property from hurricane Gus.

SICKO, all right.

Oh those Dems.
Caught on tape being sexist.
Caught on tape being gleeful of others misfortune.
Caught on tape believing God would come to the Dems rescue by killing people.
Caught on tape believing global warming is truly a religion.

All wrapped up in a sound bite. It's over.

Makes me think of the famous knitting crones of French Revolution fame; they've been depicted in various motion pictures in various degrees of bedraggled and abject brutality; they stop their knitting and watch as another "Enemy of the People" is done away with; nothing gives them more pleasure.

Hey, Mr. Obama, Mr. Barack "Unto the least of these my brothers" Obama; tell your party and your supporters and the American people and the world that no human being is a NOBODY; even if she is not a Democrat or a wanted but inadvertant birth.

Leave no stone unturned in your efforts to restore some dignity to the public discourse about your run for, what is it, "Commander in CHIEF"?

If, that is, you have one; or any.

Let's go Chief! Show us you're better than that! Show your colleagues from Iran and Syria and wot not, who you are going to in just a few short months engage in civilized, moderate, diplomatic, gentlemanly, humane, peaceful, wise discourse before the WHOLE WORLD, as you show them there is a better way - your way! Change we can believe in.

Make it so.

When i was at law school we had a guest lecture by a former grad: not much older than us, intelligent, successful, well dressed and attractive. I figured she'd be a real role model for the women in the class, but I was wrong. They insulted her completely, her hair, her clothes, her opinions.
Not all women do this, of course, but a fair number really hate somebody who "has it all" so to speak.
Francis likely fits that type. It is possible to be a success without being warped by bitterness and bad choices.

SP made an obligatory nod to HRC, Geraldine and Ferraro (among others... to much for me) for paving the way.

Remember HRC's concession speech where she spun great invisible clothes of costly thread and boasted of the pioneering achievements by her and her eighteen million, proving that anyone in America could do anything she dreamed of.

Quite likely she thought the story would come full circle with her in the Oval Office; this has really spiked her fairy tale.

Wonder if she has called Palin to congratulate her, as politicians with gravitas are wont to do, win, lose or draw.

Perhaps she'll have someone work up a letter..

It's about power all right, but not necessarily wymyns' power; HRC has no regard for man, beast or woman that stands in her way.

Hey Ken, I just went to the grocery store and happened to see the daily broadsheets; it was like looking at lurid DC comics announcing swarms of killer ants or brain sucking aliens.

The Post cover really shocked me. Hermann Goebbels must have risen from the dead.

Whether or not Conrad Black took what he took legally, perhaps he should have killed the Post when he walked away from it. It was all too good to be true.

These papers are always on about the evil empire to the south, and our distinct Canadian "values" of tolerance and fairness etc. They're showing us the way on both now!

Thank God for digital media!

CNN has become just another arm of the Democratic left in America as CBC is to the liberals propaganda machime in the Canada's. To bad they have over the years lost the credability they once owned, by blatent bias as well as lies.
They don't even try to hide it anymore.

By the way glad so many lefties are mailing in bitter. Shows the mouse is loose amoung the Big O's crowd & the panic has set in.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at August 30, 2008 10:34 PM

Palin was actually my pick [I have witnesses!] She was on the long list mentioned some time ago and when looking up info about possible vp choices was impressed by the fact she put Alaska's check register online for every taxpayer to see. Thought then a women would be a smart move for McCain and she might be a good fit. When I heard the rumour it was a 'dark horse" I figured it was either her or Meg Whitman.
As for inexperience- as many have pointed out she has actually managed a town and a state- way more the the big goose egg. And as for age... JFK was only 43 when he took office. And victoria was only 18 when she became queen. If she has it between the ears - which I think she does- she'll do fine.

Posted by: ww at August 30, 2008 10:47 PM

I used to like CNN. They have a great network of reporters, and the ability to get a story out very quickly. This campaign has definitely made me think twice about trusting the accuracy of their reporting.

As for the next 60 days, I can't imagine that Obama's team won't shoot themselves in the foot. I can almost gaurantee someone will let slip a distasteful comment. "White bitch, rich cracker, short-dick, flat-ass"- take your pick. They just won't be able to restrain themselves.

They were so close. I watched a clip from the dem. convention, and could have sworn it was a re-run of an old "Soul Train" episode. This has very little to do with politics, just like the OJ trial had nothing to do with justice. It's way beyond that for a lot of black and guilty white people.

Feminists once again drown in their own poo. The cry was supposed to be 'I can do anything'
and it was apparently because women were oppressed and 'couldn't do everything' because they were women.

Now an accomplished woman comes forward and they turn on her.
Why?
Because their motive was never about women being accomplished because they were smart, or able, or willing.
Feminists want women to get ahead only because they are women, and especially if they were anti-family, and men haters. They created their own 'old boys club', and Palin doesn't meet the requirements.
Palin is smart, accomplished and willing. That is why she is governor of Alaska. That is why she deserves to be VP.That is what gets the fems drowning in their own poo.

Posted by: bluetech at August 31, 2008 12:10 AM

The democrats and feminists are apopleptic.

Posted by: RW at August 31, 2008 10:03 AM

Palin is accused by the emkdia of being "not credible" etc. etc. All these insults can be applied to the Ubermessiah - but they are not. Hmmm??

Posted by: RW at August 31, 2008 10:13 AM

What amazes me is how wrong the media has gotten this story. While McCain doubtless hopes to pick off some disaffected Hillary supporters, his primary goal in selecting Palin was to unify the Republican party and rally its conservative base. In that sense it has worked perfectly.

Posted by: Belisarius at August 31, 2008 10:18 AM

She is the "one we've been waiting for". :)

As to experience... She's got herself elected mayor, got herself elected Governor, pumped out 5 kids, shot, cleaned and cooked dinner, and got herself on a VP ticket in a U.S. of A. presidential election, all without the aid of Hollywood.

"Sen. Barack, honey, when your done writing another book trying to figure what you've done with your life and who yo daddy is, could you order in dinner perhaps?"

Posted by: Skip at August 31, 2008 11:59 AM

I'd leave it alone more than taking a swipe at hillary.

"Governor Palin, you're no Hilary Clinton"

"Maybe, maybe not. But she's not here, thanks to Barrack"

Posted by: Daryl at August 31, 2008 1:15 PM

Congratulations to CNN for their outstanding and completely UNbiased reporting of the Palin pick for VP and of course to Cafferty's picks for emails to be read on air. 11,000 emails in 43 and a half seconds and NOT ONE SINGLE one in favor of Palin. Yup. CNN has it's finger on the pulse of the nation.

NOT

And BTW I can almost guaranty that if some down home boys (or girls) from Alaska OR Newfoundland had been running the show for the last 20 or 30 years we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now. Their very survival depends on common sense - something Ottawa AND Washington lost sight of decades ago!

I don't know how many VOTERS are in Alaska but with Cafferty's comment (13+some caribou) CNN might as well stop wasting its money by broadcasting into that state. They just lost their last 13 viewers there!! What morons to think ANYBODY can't see through their condescending BS and completely one sided reporting. They should be made to declare themselves Hussein Obama's personal network and cheerleading team.
