McCain May Not Know How Many Homes He Owns...

...but what's Barack's excuse for not know what city he's in? He begins speaking at 1:30 of the clip.

Before that, we get to endure Keith "Bathtub Boy" Olbermann's emotional erection of how he thinks Michelle Obama's speech went.

Does anyone one else find it peculiar that his daughter asks her father what city he was in after Barry said he was in St. Louis?

OOOOOOH they're sooooo wonderful. I can hardly stand it!!!!!!

Posted by: jack at August 26, 2008 2:02 AM

God help us! That's all I can think of whenever I hear this guy. Let's see; how do things line up: we have Iran gnashing their nuclear teeth ready to to commit suicide if that's what it takes, Russia on the prowl again because of a weakened NATO, an economy that just doesn't need carbon credits, a two front war with almost impotent EU allies, Pakistan on the brink of imploding, the thugs in China on the rise, the thugs of China owning the Nations debt. Does there need to be more?
McCain is proved one of ten thousand by just making it into Navy pilot training, (and he graduated) has leadership training and experience, has experience in industry and government; yet I think he may not be of the "Winston Churchill" kind of right stuff needed. What about Ob-who?
God help us!

Posted by: Gunney99 at August 26, 2008 2:03 AM

Gunney: you may have just listed all the reasons the U.S. needs Ob-who, and not a rehash of the past 8 years.

Apparently pettiness is the new politics. Forget substance, check out their closets and under their beds, get stories from childhood friends and who's their Mommy, Daddy or Granny, it's the politics of the absurd.

Posted by: Liz J at August 26, 2008 7:15 AM

Gag me with a maggot. Funny how family was supposed to be off limits until it was time to parade out the little darlings. I'm surprised his brother didn't make it there.

Olbermann once again highlights why I cannot stand any more that a (very) short video clip of him at any one time.

btw, isn't Kansas City a suburb of St Louis?

Posted by: Texas Canuck at August 26, 2008 7:44 AM

It did seem peculiar that his daughter piped up and asked what city he was in. I wonder who whispered that in her ear.

Harvee, I think most people here would take the last eight years over the next eight with Obama. All we have to do is show ourselves weak like Obama has suggested and we'll be in a heck of a lot more trouble internationally than Iraq ever offered us. On a domestic policy front, he has a plant to get oil companies to pull their capital out of the the US, and anyone else that makes money but Trial Lawyers apparently. When Capital leaves, so do the jobs it supports. Hopefully we can avoid the great Obama depression.

How many houses did Bill Ayers blow up?
One!

Image over substance every time.

Look, Michelle Obama is obviously a very talented lady: But coming on to hype her husband? 'Used to be that family members didn't do that. Is she going to be biased, just a little bit? Hmmm...

Obama Confused:

"I'm in Kansas City...I'm in St. Louis...I'm in Kansas City..."

"Guys [who would they be? Michelle's mom?) take care of the girls...I mean, girls, take care of your mom..."

Let's see, for Michelle and Barack:

Marks for being articulate and attractive? 10/10

Marks for heft, substance, and gravitas, not to mention leadership capabilities? 4/10

Posted by: batb at August 26, 2008 8:12 AM

I listened to her speech and it was like a mediocre episode of the West Wing.

She was hooped form the get go . . . when Jimmy Carter is your lead-in, it is an uphill climb.

Posted by: Fred at August 26, 2008 8:34 AM

Did anyone notice if she was she wearing her $800.00 Jimmy Choo shoes and $600.00 earrings?

Posted by: violet at August 26, 2008 8:52 AM

Come on, most rock stars have to be prompted at the beginning of their concert as to where they are.

Good evening ah ,ah, Airdrie. ..er er. Cochrane....Balzac

Posted by: cal2 at August 26, 2008 9:01 AM

Obama's confusion on what city he was in and who should take care of whom can probably be attributed to snoring something. Olbermann is a turd - a mental midget working for a fourth rate company. They make a nice fit.

Posted by: a different Bob at August 26, 2008 9:29 AM

"snoring"?? Make that "snorting".

Posted by: a different Bob at August 26, 2008 9:36 AM

"Snoring"'s OK, a different Bob, as in Obama's asleep at the wheel.

Posted by: batb at August 26, 2008 9:38 AM

What is that girl wearing? Is that a slip? 12 is the new sweet 16?? Its cool now to put little kids in strappy evening wear on international TV, at a Presidential convention? Nice choice Michelle.

These people have SO got to be defeated. And I mean harshly.

Posted by: The Phantom at August 26, 2008 10:09 AM

That opening shot reminds me of all those giant wall murals and posters of kindly ol' Joe Stalin and Chairman Mao...

Harvee

It always amazes me how people like you can attribute all of the worlds woes at the feet of the evil mastermind GWB; then, on the other hand you revel in your belief that GWB is an idiot. Which one is it?

Posted by: Indiana Homez at August 26, 2008 11:04 AM

dont you know GWB is bipolar. he is both the smartest , most evil and controlling man in the world capable of making decisions down to the smallest detail and also the dumbest man that has ever walked the earth. 8>)

Posted by: cal2 at August 26, 2008 12:04 PM

harvee at 9:10; so you think Ob-who is the go to guy to solve these problems?
Let's see; isn't NATO weak because of Left leaning Governments in Europe and the West? Canada being a prime example.
Didn't Bill Clinton reduce the US armed forces by about half?
Iran started this "Global Jihadist War" in 1979 with the weak Jimmy Carter looking on or was it GWB who is to blame?
Almost half of the proxy terrorist states controlled by the Mad Ayatollah's were working on nukes by 9/11. North Korea is one of the successful.
Will driving big oil out of the country and making every single citizen a lottery winner solve economic problems?
Just askin!

I just can't fathom this phoney empty TV sitcom charter becomming president of a great Country.

That image of Obama on the screen reminds me of the Wizard Of Obama..., er, Oz.

Posted by: Viking at August 26, 2008 2:22 PM

McCain may not know how many homes he has, but Obama might have trouble remembering how many names he went by in the past.

Posted by: Soccermom at August 26, 2008 2:28 PM

McCain has fixed addresses in his life. Even at the Hanoi Hilton.

I don't think McCain could tell you how much a dime bag was worth in Obama's youth...or how to prep a rail...

Petty! Absurdly petty comments. Is this the kind of political dabate that will occur on this blog this fall if Canada goes to the polls?

Posted by: beardyscree at August 26, 2008 2:55 PM

beardyscree: "Petty! Absurdly petty comments..."

What other kinds of comments can they be about an absurdly petty politician?

And YOUR contribution to the comments would be...?

Posted by: batb at August 26, 2008 3:09 PM

According to MSNBC "Michelle is sooo beautiful" Are you kidding me??? She doesn't look so hot on my TV, (maybe my TV needs adjusting of some sort"

Posted by: Shirley at August 26, 2008 3:30 PM

The not knowing where he is was not the issue.
The issue is how he only responded once to his children trying to talk to him.
Even at Michelle's convenient that was.....Obama still ignored his girls.
It was sad. The girls were obviously coached as to what to say.
It was as about as real as Father Knows Best or Leave It To Beaver episodes.

beardyscree...I can't speak for future political debate on this blog, but if you really want to see petty, absurdly petty comments during the fall election, then just tune into cbc or ctv,or any broadcast for that matter.

The candidate's wife has always addressed the convention. Laura Bush did it, etc, etc...

you people reek of desperation!

Posted by: real at August 26, 2008 4:23 PM

Real said: "...you people reek of desperation!"

Nope, that's perspiration. The smell of work, my friend. Not surprised you didn't recognize it.

Now, the smell of desperation can't be transmitted by TV, but I'll bet the front row got a whiff of it off Michelle Obama. Any mother who would dress her little daughter up as eye candy for the TV carnivores, she's got eau de despiration by the pailful.

Posted by: The Phantom at August 26, 2008 4:50 PM

I just can't fathom this phoney empty TV sitcom charter becomming president of a great Country.

I'm an American and just that he got this far has added one extra drink to my Happy Hour when we go out. If I'm on life support by some horrible bad luck on election day my husband promises to get me to the polls by ambulance.

Is Canada prepared for Red State Republicans leaving the country? Could we get a fair asylum deal? Now, that would be a hilarious situation.

Seriously, we survived Carter. Obama would screw up a one car funeral, he's that much dumber. Four years of misery at most, unnecessarily a waste of time, but, our republic has had a few idiots in the WH before in our history.

Posted by: penny at August 26, 2008 4:53 PM

Did anyone watch the morning shows today (ABC's Good Morning America, etc)? I haven`t seen that much gushing and fawning since I was a teenager and all my girlfriends had huge, insane crushes on rock stars. Diane Sawyer was the worst, giddily telling viewers that last night was 'a night for the ages'. Totally pathetic.

Posted by: Barbara at August 26, 2008 5:01 PM

IMHO, I think all political wives should JUST STOP speaking at national party conventions.

People aren't electing them and it's bad taste to gush about your husband in public.

As for Yikes. Last night's DNC was no such thing. Speaking of the "reek of desperation," The Phantom got it right. Except for the genuine excitement in the Pepsi Centre when Ted Kennedy came onstage, everything else was stagey and wooden.

Michelle Obama is a talented woman and very attractive (though, not my type!) but her being introduced by her brother and Obama's being praised by his half-sister were lacklustre, predictable, cliche-ridden performances. 'Nothing exciting, earth-shattering, or memorable here, folks.

Maybe Diane Sawyer needs to get out more or widen her cirlce of contacts if she thinks last night's DNC was "a night for the ages." Or, maybe she needs to take off her rose-coloured glasses or the blinkers that are blinding her.

Posted by: batb at August 26, 2008 5:40 PM

Whoops! ABove should read,

As for "a night for the ages." Yikes.

Posted by: batb at August 26, 2008 5:43 PM

How did all you idiots find each other?

Posted by: curtis bailey at August 26, 2008 5:54 PM

Objectively, and to assess it solely as a candidate's wife's speech/a representative of that general class of action, Michelle's little talk was well-conceived, well-written, and well-delivered.

Give the woman a break. She's playing her role well, whether you support her lovin' man's politics or not. That's her job.

If the wife of a candidate with more resonant-to-us political views spoke that well, we'd all be over the moon about it.

As for the kiddies, well, it's a crass, commercial cynical dog and pony (and cute, wholesome, all-American offspring) show - everyone knows it, no sense pretending otherwise, and this is just how the game is played. Can't reasonably expect anything else under the circumstances.

We really need Ed the Sock

Posted by: Hannibal Lectern at August 26, 2008 8:02 PM

The question was how many houses McCain AND his wife own. The McCains maintain separate finances per premarital agreement. McCain knows how many houses HE owns, but his wife and her various investments own several, of which I'm sure McCain doesn't keep track. McCain answered honestly: he doesn't know how many they both own. Obama is trying to make chicken soup out of feathers and his desperation shows. Obama's people are stupid to be bringing up houses when Obama got his through questionable dealings with a known unrepentant terrorist bomber, who is not in prison only because the cops messed up the investigation with an illegal wiretap. It's pretty obvious Obama is not his brother's keeper, considering his half-brother George is living in a slum hut in Kenya. Stone-throwing was not a good idea, "Big House" Obama, with all those glass walls around you.

Posted by: twolaneflash at August 26, 2008 8:08 PM

Just keep in mind that the lushness of the carpet
on the floor of the casino tells you nothing per se
about the house odds on the slot machines.

Posted by: Vitruvius at August 26, 2008 8:14 PM

twolaneflash - Obama got his house deal from convicted political fundraiser/felon Tony Rezko. He got his political start from unconvicted self admitted domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers. His philosphies came from his minister, self admitted Amerika hater, Jeremiah Wright. If you add Father Michael Pfleger to this mix an I completley understand how you can mix up whos who in this collection of goofs. Negate Obama in 2008!

Posted by: Brian Mallard at August 26, 2008 8:41 PM

Vit - betcha there be a correlation between house odds and carpet lushness. Will ya wager a fin?

However, if you would like to buy

They make up for it in volume.

Sweet Jebus, some of the comments from you ******* brain dead right wing freaks are astounding. Just reading your comments themselves makes you look dumber and dumber.

You would seriously consider voting for McSame giving his admitted senility, technological incompetence, lack of knowledge on economics, and so and so on?

I swear, if that jackpot gets elected, the US deserves to continue it's quick and entertaining downward spiral into the bowels. The guy can't speak worth a damn, hangs everything on his boo-*******-hoo POW 'experience' and looks like he's going to have a mass ******* coronary at any moment.

At least with Obama you'd have a modicum of opportunity to gain back a lick of respect on the world stage.
