If I needed another reason to have ignored this olympics, the IOC chairman would be it.

It must be over soon?

Isn't Rogge past his sell-by date?

I don't have a problem with his thinking that Usain might have shown some collegiality and good sportsmanship towards his competitors, but not in the public and mean-spirited way he did.

The much larger issue, of course, is his turning a blind eye to China's corruption and cheating. No wonder the world's going the way it is. The eternal motto of all these entitled, privileged, moneyed "leaders" is "do as I say, not as I do."

They're living cushy lives, high off the hog, and anything that might get in the way of their continuing to do so--like holding China to the commitments it made--can cavalierly be abandoned. (Chretien, Mo Strong, and their cronies fall into theis category.)

Who're you going to look up to any more?

"Who're you going to look up to any more?"

batb....may I humbly suggest any one of our soldiers and our allies who are fighting against just such crap anywhere in the world they are needed? Today we(well some of us) in Edmonton honour 3 such men who stood against just such corruption.
BTW.... there was 1 who survived the boobytrap. He is also being saluted as the hero he is.
Per Ardua Ad Astra.

Justthinkin: I was actually thinking about who can you look up to in the "official" pool of "leaders" today...as there are very few worthy of the title.

But you're totally correct. Thanks for pointing out that our soldiers are heroes to look up to. They're on the front lines of the world-wide fight against corruption and terrorism, wherever terrorists and corrupt despots and their followers rear their ugly heads.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper would qualify, IMO, but definitely our military leaders and soldiers are up there, too.

If you like Bolt, lance, you'll love this guy:

http://tsn.ca/olympics/story/?id=247359&lid=headline&lpos=topStory_main

"BEIJING - Cuba's Angel Matos deliberately kicked a referee square in the face after he was disqualified in a bronze-medal match, prompting the World Taekwondo Federation to recommend he be banned for life."

Awesome! That old, white referee was trippin', man, and had it coming to him. Word!

""""""Who're you going to look up to any more?"""""

are we that lacking in self confidence????

I was listening to CKCU, the Carleton University radio station this afternoon. There is a Jamaican program after the disco program, both worth listening to.

The Jamaican program had a very good segment on how Jamaica has dominated sprint events for decades; finally they have a gold medal under Jamaica's colours! Congrats Mr. Lightening Bolt.

uh, wouldn't that be 3 to 0 ?

Being a sporty family with Jamaican roots, the Westin family has really enjoyed watching the natural reactions of Bolt (of lightning!).

On another note, with NS roots and kayakers in the family, we'd love it if the CBC learned the difference between paddling and rowing (duh!) and would stop interviewing athletes about their 'feelings'!!!

How come, even though there are supposedly eight comments on this thread, I have only four showing? This has never happened before.

Also, I'm getting a pop-up on SDA I've never seen before which says: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has blocked the website from displaying content with security certificate errors."

What, exactly, does this mean? And why can I not see all of the comments. The last one to post on this thread was @ 11:46 a.m YESTERDAY, and that was comment #4. #s 5-8 don't show.

Holy cow, Batman!

As soon as I posted my comment above, all of the other comments instantly posted... I'll try the same thing on another thread where the same thing happened and see if I can retrieve the missing comments....

Hmmm. Gremlins, I guess.

The Gremlins are at it again!!!

Please ignore the first TWO comments from me above. Only the third and this one count. The first two have links to somewhere only mystery book readers want to go.
