Is there nothing that Obama can't do?
"It was a bad crisis for the world. It required tough words but also a smart
approach to call on the international community to step in. And I'm very,
very happy that the Senator's request for a ceasefire has been complied with
by President Medvedev."
And did you notice how the price of crude came down since he called on us to inflate our tires?
It was a bad night, and I'm very, very happy that the Senator's request for an eastern rising of the sun this morning has been complied with by Apollo. A quick glance out the window confirms that the Senator's tough words and his smart approach are paying dividends.
Posted by: EBD at August 13, 2008 2:20 AMThis is getting surreal. EBD above, has it in perspective.I cannot believe that anyone actually thinks that Obama's poor words could be in any way connected to the fighting in Russia. Maybe we can get him to come to Toronto and solve the handgun issue in an afternoon.

The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality is presently #1 on NYT best seller list. Shocker, I know. It's heavily user-reviewed on Amazon by so-called readers whow come out of the woodwork in an attempt to suppress it. Have a look at the reviews rating it 1. Amazon customers presume to review a book they haven't bothered reading. They despise the subject, sometimes glancing at the jacket blurp and extrapolate from there. They're getting more clever. Now some give a high rating to trick readers into viewing the rating but the delivering a negative review. Either that or they don't understand the numbering system. It's predictable as all hell. Then they have the audacity to warn against brainwashing and accuse interested readers of being uninformed. The usual attacks are there in abundance.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at August 13, 2008 6:41 AMPretty amemic response but we can hope there are some Dems left that like a scrap.
When you want to start or finish a war you gotta have a Dem in power:
Lincoln: Civil war
Wilson: WW1
FDR: WW2
Truman: Nukes Japan and goes into Korea
LBJ: Vietnam
Clinton: Kosovo
Dems know how to run a war. What genetic stripe of Dem does Obama come from?
Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at August 13, 2008 7:26 AMLincoln was a Republican.
Posted by: tower at August 13, 2008 8:11 AMObama was a little late to that party.
Bush, McCain and Harper had already sent messages to Putin and his sock puppet Medvedev.
Russia may not be invited back to the G8.
Obama reminds me of the yapsalot Taliban Jack Layton.
Wake up America, the guy Obama is a closet Marxist!
When King Canute went to the beach and ordered the tide to stop, in the old story, it was supposedly to show his fawning court that he couldn't order the rising tide to stop. Maybe Obama and his adoring band of "courtiers" for a similar demonstration?
And you know what? I bet Obama would peek just to see if the tide really did stop.
I am waiting for them to start calling him "his highness" and "his majesty."

I'm pretty sure that Lincoln was a Republican.

There was a recent discussion here about the thoughts of retired Col. Ralph Peters and there was a side discussion about the retrieval of information behind subscriber firewalls.
Because of that side discussion, I simply felt it best to close the loop by providing a link to Mr. Peters slightly modified but essentially same article that appears in today's New York Post
I find his analysis sound. However I am unsure about one of his statements: "Make no mistake: Moscow intends to dismember Georgia." Perhaps: I am undecided at this point in time.

Obama has stated that once elected, he plans to allow white people to apply for a better sense of rhythm.
He also claims that he has a plan to create equality between white and black male penis size.
I'm pretty sure that's what I heard. If anyone can do it .... well it's got to be Barry Hussein the man we don't have to explain.
Posted by: John V at August 13, 2008 11:18 AMObama feels Georgia's pain. Now his followers can sleep soundly knowing that O has pronounced.
In reality, neither he nor his legion give a rats a** whether Putin carves up Georgia and dumps it in the Black Sea. Georgians are all evil redneck rethuglicans. As long as Atlanta is saved, of course.
Posted by: john at August 13, 2008 11:50 AMWL Mackenzie; Lincoln was GOP and Nixon ended the Vietnam war.
JFK allowed the Bay of Pigs to go ahead and then abandoned the project.
All the JFK conspiracy books say Kennedy was trying to get out of Vietnam when he was assassinated.
Trueman used the bomb at Churchill's urging and wimped out in Korea.
Yeah that's it , Barry saved Georgia from the Russian army.
I picture Osama standing in front of a 1500 lb russian grizzly with bloody foam dripping from it's muzzle, like a Crocodile Dundee, dressed business casual, in that stupid water buffalo scene.
He walks right up to it and points at it and it gently wanders off and lies down.
It could happen , you know!
Que the aboriginie religious diggedy doo chanting ./
Byeoooooo Yeowwowooo Howrooowwww
Gees I impwessed!
Got those pesky ruskies to behave, play nice and quick too!
----- yeah.
This should qualify the big O for the much lauded noble peace prize, no?
Democrats Kennedy got the USA into Vietnam,Johnson expanded the war and were heros, Republican Nixon ended the war and was impeached for his efforts. The democrats kept the cold war going for 50 years and were heros and republican Reagan ended it and is constantly vilified.Methinks that the military industrial complex is controlled by big unions and the democratic party.By the way,the A bomb was used on Japan to end the killing of allied soldiers and to send a message to Stalin to behave. If it was Churchills idea,he had some good ones as he had a better grasp of Stalins aims than FDR or Truman.Truman thought that Stalin was a reasonable man,Churchill knew better.
Posted by: spike 1 at August 13, 2008 12:53 PMAs others have noted, Lincoln was a Republican. The Democrats did everything they could to
lose the Civil War - Sen. Vallandigham was a moonbat in the "grand tradition" of that species;
unlike most subsequent moonbats, he did himself in.
He accidentally killed himself while attempting to come up with a fake defence for a client -
surprise! Vallandigham was a lawyer.
To revenge themselves on the Republicans for having won the Civil War and freeing the slaves,
the Democrats invented the Ku Klux Klan.
I wonder if President Medvedev was aware that Sen. Obama had told Russia to stop fighting?
On a more serious note, Spengler's article on South Ossetia
(Asia Times online: http://www.atimes.com/atimes/others/Spengler.html)
is well worth a read.
Gawd, I'd hate to be a McCain ad man! Where would you start -- how would you prioritize.

AND, Bush has announced that Condi Rice is being sent to Georgia.
Oooooh, now Putin is scared.
AND, Bush has announced in uncharacteristic bureaucratese that Russia's behaviour is inconsistent with membership in certain world bodies!
Ooooooh, now Putin is Petrified.
US foreign policy is now a pathetic joke. Rice has destroyed Bush's second term with her State Department coup. Bush has caved.
Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at August 13, 2008 1:48 PMA standard part of Defense Conditions (DEFCON) 1 through 5 should be the internment of State Department officials -- up to and including Condoleezza Rice or her successor in title -- for the duration of the emergency or hostilities.
Nonetheless, Bush seems to have found his spine:
Bush orders US Air Force-Navy humanitarian airlift to Georgia
[T]he strong military actions a furious US president George W. Bush ordered Wednesday, Aug. 13, after seven days of Russian-Georgian warfare, amount to a bid to break the sea, land and air blockade Russia still maintains against Georgia in violation of the EU-brokered ceasefire.
The first direct US-Russian military clashes in Georgia are now possible if the Russians fail to give way when challenged by US air transports and vessels heading for Georgia...
Supplemental: BHO still MIA.
Posted by: Charles MacDonald at August 13, 2008 3:27 PMCharles MacDonald, again thanks for this and many recent links.
LOL re: internment of State Department officials.
Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at August 13, 2008 3:46 PMAgree with MND. Charles: any thoughts on the idea if any of the "humanitarian" aid may include a few hundred Stinger missiles?
Max Boot has been pushing for shipments of Stinger and Javelin missiles. I wouldn't hold my breath -- too many Western fingerprints. Still, the U.S. has access to vast quantities of sterile arms seized in Iraq, Afghanistan, or elsewhere in the world... Or the sales of Israeli arms that Jerusalem nixed recently may proceed as if by magic.
Exactly how long to Obama's magic spells last? This one seems to be wearing off prematurely.
Posted by: shaken at August 13, 2008 4:37 PMThanks for the link once again, Charles. It's probably at little early in the game for the Stingers to appear and I doubt they will come (if at all) with American cargo loads. However, overland from Turkey might work....

Posted by: Tim in Vermont at August 13, 2008 6:30 PMBTW, I think that Obama has the right response to a warlike turn in a nation that sits on a large percentage of the West's energy reserves. We SHOULD NOT USE western energy supplies, not supplies in the US, not dirty Canadian oil, nothing. We should incrementally weaken our strategic energy position and embark on a "Great Leap Forward" program to run windmills off of fairy's wings. We only need to hire a good looking president, with a nice smile and commanding voice to go over the Russia, Iran, and Venezuela and charm them into parting with their oil.
It is all so simple I can't understand why you repugnacans can't see it!

The world has become the inverse of freedom. This is an age of Barbarians masquerading as civilized. Pillagers & looters with pretensions of civilization. How an empty shell like the big O can become a phenomena is perhaps a mirror to how one-dimensional we have become as a people.

Jeeshe what an idiot. WWII was a continuation of WWI( The War To End All Wars, Ha!) WWI stopped, but wasn't endedwith an armistices. Hence the need for unconditional surrender in WWII. Wilson, the limpwrist, stroked lefty academic prissy who couldn't fight his way out of a Key West glee club.
WW and FDR left Poland and half of Europe in tyranny and this thing called the Cold War. Nice.
Less than four years after a 11 million man military, Truman was so weak (typical lefty) that a bunch of starving illiterate 5 foot North Korean almost threw the US military out of Korea.
Kennedy got us into Vietnam, Johnson sent millions, and ran off to his ranch. Google Johnson and his silver star he always wore.
Anyways, what that beanpole, tea drinking, affirmative action poster boy, Obama going to do?
There was in fact a little thing called the Paris Peace Conference and its result, the Treaty of Versailles, which actually did end the First World War. The demand for unconditional surrender in the Second World War was unrelated to anything that happened in the First. It was the result of the failure of Germany to get rid of Hitler and produce some kind of credible government that could offer realistic terms for ending the war on any other basis.
But don't get me wrong, I don't like the Democrats either, and especially that jerk Wilson.
