Bubbling Appetite For Federal Election

littleshaftofhorrors.jpg
"We have seen over the winter and the spring more and more interest for federal politics and more and more appetite for an election so we will see what will happen in the coming months," Dion told reporters in Ottawa.
Update - Appetizers are being served!

Dion needs to get the Election mode rolling,
Why?
1- He needs to sell his Green Shaft proposal out there now before the reality of his Tax "Grab" Shift sinks in with Canadians.
2- The backroom biys have had enough & are looking for Canadians to Pay the Cost of ousting him rather then going to the expense of another Leadership review/convention

Notice that comments can be posted at the news site (see bottom of article) and so far they are roasting Dion.
Please add yours if you wish.

thanks kate sorry about that triple hit

If there isnt an election in the Fall then Dion wont be the Liberal Leader in the election.

Harper needs to find a way to get the opposition to defeat him.

He'll face Rae next time...while he has flaws he is a far stronger opponent than Dion and a potential PM. Lets get this thing over with.

Posted by: Stephen at July 25, 2008 11:30 AM

So will the Liberals be thinking of the Green Shift plan as "Audrey II" by the time this is over? And will Dion play the dentist?

I know one thing. Alberta and Saskatchewan will not be playing the part of Bill Murray.

Posted by: rabbit at July 25, 2008 11:32 AM

Ah, Dion's "Green Shift"! Shifting "green" out of our pockets and into the pockets of his cronies and Al's "carbon trading" crooks!

Posted by: Edward Teach at July 25, 2008 11:33 AM

Well, Toronto Sun columnist Michael Den Tandt has swallowed Dion's drivel hook, line and sinker:

He's obviously not the brightest bulb writing there these days.

ho boy , I would hate be heaten by dat big grin shaft behin me----Borat Dion

Posted by: cal2 at July 25, 2008 11:40 AM

I see Mr Dion is following a Liberal tradition - where "Canadians" actually means Liberals.

Just take any speeches where "Canadians want" is used (or some other derivative), and substitute "Liberals want," then you will get the true message.

Good luck selling a new tax to Canadians, scaring them with ridiculous doomsday predictions of warming (which hasn't happened, but wait five years for the tipping point, with non-existent Arctic melting and pine beetles in natural cycle), with the backdrop of rising emissions, energy costs and speculative profits in Europe, owing to carbon taxes and cap and trade BS.

Hey Mr Dion, a successful environmental policy (election winning) requires three planks:

- Canadians believe in catastrophic elements of climate change, and tax policies will not affect their wallets (note cynical revenue neutral nonsense)

- his taxation policy will reduce Canadian emissions

- his policy, if it is ever implemented (Red Green book mendacity), Canada will develop non-carbon fuel technologies

It won't happen. OTOH, unless Grits do very well in byelections (not only retain their two seats, but increase their vote), Dion will be forced to scurry behind the curtain, screaming "it's unfair" while he continues to tacitly support a government that he says "Canadians" want to get rid of.

According to Dion's apologists, the wrong policy prescription is evidence of leadership. Taxing people disproportionately in one region to cynically redistribute some of the largesse to buy votes is poor leadership, also known as stupidity. Taxing production rather than consumption is dumb policy (why do that? See above).

It's going to be fun and I can't wait. The debates will be a riot. How are the Grits going to hide Dion from the electorate, where he doesn't get to host invitation only "Town Hall" meetings.

From a Toronto Star Blog. -- Is this a joke or from someone working for Dion fishing to see how many people in Ontario support the idea so he can put it in the Red Book? If this is how Ontario thinks no wonder the Liberals have a following there and western separation should be seriously considered

If the wealth gap between Ontario and Alberta is growing why don't we have two sets of prices, interest rates, tax rates etc.... Here are some examples to narrow this prosperity gap between the two provinces. -a lower oil price for Ontario and a higher one for Alberta -lower interest rates for Ontario and higher one for Alberta. -a weaker CDN dollar for Ontario and a stronger dollar for Alberta and the list goes on. What I'm saying here is that to ensure that Ontario's economy improves and prevents overheating of the Alberta economy, this would bring equality and narrow this prosperity gap.

If Dion is so leftarded he thinks he can win on a platform of higher taxes let him try.

The media may give him the full-monica but the conservative's attack adds won't.

Posted by: Warwick at July 25, 2008 11:56 AM

The by-elections are to be held September 8., after which I think you'll see parliament dissolved, depending the the results of the by-elections.

Posted by: Malcolm Cross at July 25, 2008 12:12 PM

I agree with the 2nd commenter, Rich, that the comments about the story are not in Dion's favour. Further to that, there are more than just a few who openly - and intelligently - argue for a Conservative majority.

This is obviously good news for Harper and the CPC who should by now be receiving a little bit of buyer's remorse or voter fatigue; these comments indicate not yet.

I do not personally know enough about the 3 by-elections to comment but it seems that the talk of a general election is just talk - you know: priorities need to be set and all that.

Posted by: Brent Weston at July 25, 2008 12:12 PM

What a hoot. The media are busy telling us how we want an election because the liberals aren't in power.
Back when the libs were in power the media were busy telling us how we didn't want an election because it was the summer, or the fall, or the winter, or the spring, or Christmas, or Easter, or Ground Hog day, or whatever.
What a a bunch of saps.

HOW MANY STUPID PEOPLE REALLY DO LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY? Count Dion votes. One thing about an election, you know where they come from.

Posted by: Western Canadian at July 25, 2008 1:10 PM

I see Mr.Dion is speaking beside the "green shift".I wondered what kind of animal it would take to take a bite out of Alberta and Sask.As an aside, how much CO2 does Ontario produce ?Are the auto manufacturing plants still exempt from the total? It seems to me that the oil from Alta and Sask gets transported and burned in Ont therefore the CO2 that produces Ont oil should be charged to Ont,not Alta and Sask. The same with ALL importing countries whether they import our oil or our food.

You can only Cry Wolf so many times

Posted by: bryanr at July 25, 2008 1:13 PM

Well, I'm shocked. Dion actually upped the nerd quotient with that bow-tie. Didn't think it was possible.

Oh please Mr. Monsterfishdragonwhatever, put us out of our misery!

Posted by: Soccermom at July 25, 2008 1:18 PM

There's a couple morons that posted that they would vote for Young Truedeu if he was the leader.

Wow, can you say "dumb voters"? Don't look at the platform or anything, it's all in the name. These types of people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Posted by: theredsuit at July 25, 2008 1:25 PM

These types of people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Agreed! However, since the ability to vote is not even remotely linked to intelligence, common sense or knowledge of the issues, the Liberals always have a fighting chance. A prime example is Saskatchewan, where the "natural governing party" (NDP) seemed to be (until recently) perpetually in power.

Even democracy has its drawbacks.

In another report about the same town hall event in Kanata, Dion got an earful from Debra Pretty-Straathof, on the Executive of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture about his proposed carbon tax which would raise the price of fertilizer and equipment fuel:

“I want you to know there's a lot of angst in the countryside about this,”

Dion's reply was elegantly simple: "farmers will have to move toward new technologies".

Indeed, Farmer Dion, may I suggest Massey-Ferguson's new solar-powered combine, and hybrid-powered tractor which recharges its batteries when cruising at high speeds.

"Try completely crazy."

The C-Herald stole "crazy" from PM Harper.

PM Harper:
"'This is crazy economics' ... The Grit Green plan is a blatant tax grab based on "crazy economics,"

Dion is clairvoyant......
He knows damn well, when the next election will be!
He's just being coy.

"Too bad that dragon didn't eat him"

Well Anne McLellan is probably still eating crow from the last election...

Anybody seen Sheila Copps?

Is that man wearing a bowtie? Good grief.

Posted by: iowavette at July 25, 2008 4:09 PM

The only issue for Liberals in the 3 upcoming by-elections will be Dion's Green Tax Shift. Liberal candidates will have to stand up, explain and defend their Carbon Tax for Ontario and Quebec.

The Guelph by-election vote will reflect whether Ontarians are more concerned with the planet than they are with the collapsing auto industry in Ontario. A Dion Carbon Tax is anti-auto industry and thus anti-Ontario too.

Will it be Conservative Ontario or will it be Liberal Morontario ..??!!!

Posted by: Observant at July 25, 2008 4:19 PM

I think bryanr has it right. Liberal back room boys are stuffing the meetings with sock puppets/sycophants encouraging Dion to call an election so that he can be killed off quickly rather than suffer the lingering death that risks leaving the entire Liberal body in a prolonged state of septic shock.

Posted by: DrDave at July 25, 2008 4:35 PM

Dolly:

That's not a dragon, that's a man-eating plant from the movie "Little Shop of Horrors". His name is "Audrey II" (don't ask, go rent it).

Presumably the plant represents the Green Shift plan. And a fine symbol it is too.

Dion is looking like plant food.

Posted by: rabbit at July 25, 2008 4:38 PM

Is that Dion's wife?

Okay I'm sorry for being rude, I hate the way the leftards announce what Canada wants. Hello I'm Canadian and I don't want more taxdollars wasted on the leftards getting their nuts handed to them in a ballet box.

On a side note heres a site that keeps track of Jesus's Son Obama, enjoy.

Yup. Just take the old Massey Super 92 to market and trade it for some magic green beans.
Wasn't there some kind of fairly tale about something like that?

Why would the liberals want BopRAe in place of Dion? The Knob has less of a prayer than dionski in Ontario(knobbys big failure) while Stef can play the magic green dust fairie with them. I think dion is given a wide leash for that reason.

Hi toe efferones mine grimchaff han now Bop speaked.

Soccermom @ 1:18 that's very funny regarding the nerd quotient, le's hope he wears the same getup to talk to the ROC ;-)

Rabbit, who gets to be "The Dentist" in the movie - seems to me it'd be Dion.

Posted by: PiperPaul at July 25, 2008 10:06 PM

Regarding the bow tie:

It's difficult to tell from the picture, but it does appear that Dion is wearing a tuxedo as opposed to a business suit. I have three different bow ties, which I only wear with my tux, but they really are the standard type of tie for that suit.

Now if you want to say 1) the colour is particularly atrocious, and 2) Dijon is such a shrimp, physically, that this tie appears ridiculously large on him, you'll get no argument from me.
