I thought GB was the terrorist of our time? No?

Stop the presses.

We are all walking talking carbon bombs. Our bodies consist of 60 some percent water and 22 percent carbon - both primary sources of greenhouse gas.

I say ban pencils now, before it's too late.

"The melting of wetland permafrost in the Arctic and the resulting release of carbon into the atmosphere may be "unstoppable" in the next 20 years"...

Conveniently ignoring the fact that there has been no warming in the past decade, and the experts are expecting 10-20 years of further non-warming (or cooling) based on the almost complete lack of sunspot activity. But hey, it's more important to keep repeating the Gore/Suzuki mantra that the world is melting.

All four members in our family own carbon fiber road bikes so I think we've 'sequestered' our fair share. ;-)

I commute to work on my bike, take the bus in the winter, use the clotheline 50% of the time, take very short showers, wash clothes in cold water. That said, Monsieur Dion can flock off with his carbon shift proposal. I don't need more government in my life than I have right now.

I apologize if this is turning into a rant but I just don't think a majority of Canadians are ready for the painful measures proposed by the Liberals. For example, I still see cars idling in the parking lot - with no occupants! WTF? Keep the A/C going I guess.

IMO, what was once a discourse on environmental stewardship has since been hijacked by the Gore/Suzukian-ites into debate about the very fate of the planet. Hogwash.

These Heroic Defenders of the Wetlands(TM) claim that
[Wetlands] also produce 25% of the world's food
so their definition of "wetlands" must include every rice paddy in the world.

This is, sadly, just another cynical propaganda exercise by grant-hungry "scientists". Sigh.

I commute to work in my truck, never take the bus, never use a clotheline, take very long hot showers, wash clothes in hot water. That said, Monsieur Dion can flock off with his carbon shaft proposal. We don't need more government, we need way less.
The majority of Canadians are ready to make life very painful for the Liberals. I idle my car all the time to either keep warm or cool or just to piss off the enviro-nazis.
What was once a discourse on environmental stewardship has since been hijacked by the Gore/Suzukian-ites into a dictatorial, no debate scam.

I said a year ago that they were in full throated desperation mode as they tried to close the deal.

Couldnt happen and didnt happen. They have moved back to soft sell approach since the the experience people are having right now doesnt match their statements. AGW people have a brewing brand issue.

The equity of the AGW brand is strong but it is eroding. News story yesterday on how the great lakes have returned, or almost returned, to their long term means. The ice wont melt this year like they are counting on.

They have resorted to future statements, in "5 (10 or 15) years we will have issues"

If Europe and NA have colder than average winters, a good bet right now, then a simmering brand issue will be a major one.....The green conservatives will be able to push the anti smog anti pollution line (which is the correct one).

Experience has to meet brand promise to maintain credibility, no matter what you assert or advertise. Gore and his Carbon machine were built on brand, and now they will collapse on brand.

Nobody, but nobody is more POed over Kyotoism than the reasonable, well-intentioned and accomplished Environmentalist.

If they would have spoke up sooner and more forcefully, the Gore-Suzuki-Strong crowd would not have been able to hyjack their profession and funding.

But the scam really took hold when the Media, Hollywood, The United Nations, Universities and the Public School System fell for the Kyoto Kult Leaders' spiel.

Has happened before. Many well intentioned and worthwhile endeavours have been taken over by the nut-cases. Religion, Community Clubs, Governments, Charities, ... Environmentalism is simply just the latest example.

". . . permanently frozen soil locks up billions of tonnes of carbon, are at risk from climate change because warming is forecast to be more extreme at high latitudes"

OHMYGOD they found evidence which supports the already established fact that atmospheric CO2 increases follow warming. STOP THE PRESSES.

Right you are Ron in Kelowna.

The Yukon has had a cold miserable summer, and we had a cold winter too. People are DEPRESSED - and the majority of the pipples here are newly imported left wingers from failed left wing governerments down south - we have a failed agriculture Deptuty Min from Sask. Dipper outfit up here working to eat up more grant $$ from the Feds; just for your information, Sask people - I laugh at their misery because they believed the prophets Gory Al and Sazookey. The rest of the country is subsidizing Aline Cretian's 'Park'( the Yukon was a 'gift' from her husband who once held an iron grip over Canada), the "Park" is emitting NO CARBON except the few thousand pipples in Whitehorse, it is cold and bleak - this is a sucess story - where are the reporters?

Posted by: Jema 54 at July 23, 2008 1:16 PM

Well obviously the only way to prevent these wetlands from releasing their toxic CO2 into the air is to drain them, pave them and put large developments on them. Townhouses, apartments, strip malls, Disneyland-style theme parks, head office for GreenPeace, etc...
Surely every good environmentalist can support that!

KS at 12:58, good point! CO2 emissions FOLLOW global warming, not vice-versa.

Posted by: Bacardi Breezer at July 23, 2008 1:29 PM

Dion's 48 page "Green Shift" document is basically a plagiarism of the Kyoto agenda that was laid out in Tim Flannery's 2005 book, The Weather Makers. Indeed, Dion has said that he was deeply influenced by Australian PM Kevin Rudd. Rudd was in turn deeply influenced by his fellow Ozzie, Tim Flannery. No surprise there. Co-incidentally, both documents carry endorsements from our very own David Suzuki. That gives you a pretty good idea as to the general tone of the hypothesis.

Simply put the hypothesis runs as follows:
Climate changes at incremental rates over millions of years.
Any climate variations since 1800 occurred as a result of human activities.
CO2 is a result of these activities and therefore must be designated as a "pollutant".
The pollutant must be strictly controlled in order to control the climate.
In order to control the pollutant you must first establish a value of it.
Next you must establish limits for it's use. Call it "Cap and Trade".
In order to trade on an international basis a carbon "dollar" is required to facilitate trading.
In order to control the trading of carbon dollars a carbon central bank must be set up.
The United Nations would oversee the carbon bank.
An international police force would be formed to ensure enforcement of UN carbon policies.
Any and all evidence that runs contrary to carbon dogma will be suppressed, discredited or ignored.

Am I preaching to the choir here?

Caught the tail end of a BBC documentary last night. It was about whether or not people should fly considering all the "nasties" it spews into the atmosphere. Of course the greenies all said that we mere mortals should only fly if there was a really good reason to do so. The fair majority of the rest said bugger off big brother.

Funnies thing of this whole documentary was the announcer at the end confessed that in making this report they (cast & crew) flew to India, North America and a half dozen spots in Europe. However, he did say they were going to plant some trees to atone for the errors in their ways.

Should we call ahead and arrange the rescue party for that British Kayaker who was going to the North Pole........

http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_timeseries.png

Looks like there is a lot more ice than last year, so his expectation of an ice free north pole might just be in his dreams.....

I think I would demand his GPS serial number so we can track him and match it up.

"Plenty of economists suspect a cap-and-trade system is just asking to be gamed," (ibid).

This line is a goody, goody:
"Even so, the United Nations—which runs the Kyoto plan—is trying to crack down on bogus “emissions reductions” schemes which threaten to undermine confidence in the whole idea."

What does gamed mean?
Mao Stlong knows.
...-

"Laughing Gas: How To Game the Carbon Markets

So this is the Kyoto Protocol in action: A marginally-economical chemical factory in an industrial superpower finally installs 1970s-era technology to clean up its act, and as a result makes 30 times more money by selling “carbon credits” to fight global warming than it makes by selling chemicals.

This isn’t a last-ditch effort to upgrade Outer Mongolia—this is a French factory in South Korea. From the WSJ today:"

OK, let me see if I got this right now. The supposed global temp. has increased 1 degree in the last 100 or so years due to industrialization, which released CO2, and the wet lands that have been destroyed and released their CO2 store has also occured in the last 100 years or so. Our expert , john cross, claims that the atmospheric CO2 increase (from 280 ppm to 380ppm) accounts for 1/2 of the man produced CO2. So were is the other 1/2 of the man made CO2, and were the H is all this wetland released CO2?????????

johnny boy, please explain this discrepency, or would the correct answer be "that we don't know and need to do some more governemt funded studies to see who is stealing this stuff??????

Can't argue with the article. A good place for the US to start would be New Orleans. Return it to it's natural state as a wetland and listen to the cheers of approval from the lefty/enviro crowd -- Al Gore and B. Obama in particular and the Democratic Party generally. After all, what could be more important than saving the planet?

Ron in K said " Nobody, but nobody is more POed over Kyotoism than the reasonable, well-intentioned and accomplished Environmentalist. "

True Dat!

Real enviros and real enviro policy are some of the main victims of Kyoto. Funding for REAL envio issues have been cut in the millions$$, and some programs have been cut completely because of a change in priorities.

It is well known among thinking people that "c"onservatives are the true stewards of the environment, always have been. It is also well known that left of center thinking people are CHEAP and would never spend THEIR money on a good cause like the environment, in fact most of them live in large metropolises, litter and pollute like there is no tomorrow. All in all you can not trust what a leftard says, if they say "you are racist" it means they are racist, if they say "you are damaging the environment" you can bet it is them who are hurting the environment.

Posted by: Indiana Homez at July 23, 2008 8:29 PM

Well, if you want to find some of that missing wetlands, take a drive down to eastern Ontario!

We are soaked, drenched, semi-flooded, flooded, damp and wet. Some of our fields are turning into swamps, and our lakes and rivers are the highest that they have been in years.

The wetlands have not disappeared, just re-located.

Posted by: kingstonlad at July 23, 2008 11:00 PM

BTW...if I hear one more leftarded moron go on about how we are running out of water, I am going to lose it!
