Seven Year American Recession Watch Interrupted

Via Don Surber;

A mood of fear and pessimism is starting to descend on Europe. It now seems the region could head into recession even before the United States.

"...the excellent reports of Ian Shepherdson of High Frequency Economics, who has been on top of this slowdown from day one and who shocked me a few days ago by projecting that second-quarter growth could hit 3%. Then I read the other day that Macroeconomic Advisers, another highly respected group, had upped their forecast to 3%."

This does not fit with the "it's the economy stupid" narrative of the MSM or the Obama election screed. With Iraq turning out to be a victory and the economy actually performing pretty well, Barry's dream of being president might be an illusion.

BTW, check out the dividend yield on Bank of America (BAC)9.7%. Crazy (This is not stock advice)

so Europe, how's that Kyoto implementation working out for you?

Posted by: pete at July 18, 2008 9:51 AM

Funny thing is that they are still upping GHG emissions while the US is cutting them. Not that anybody cares

"Kyoto implementation" is working out precisely as intended, pete. No Kyoto signatory has even reduced the rate of growth of the relevant emissions, much less made any actual reductions. Europe regards treaties like that as high-minded proclamations, not binding agreements. The intent was always to sign the thing, bask in the glow of self-satisfied virtue, and lie like a rug when it came to do anything, and that's exactly how it worked out.

Canadians, like Americans, take such things seriously and attempt in good faith to comply. The difference is that Canadians, especially Liberals, trusted the Europeans to act in good faith, and are likely to get shafted as a result. Americans, accustomed to nastiness and dirty tricks from the Old Countries, were a trifle less naiive.

Regards,
Ric

All mouth and no meat leftovers in a real world. Look good feel good do nothing, stupid will always be stupid.

When Europe goes down this time it will be big time. The US has the ability to recover because of one thing most of the rest of the world lacks, reality and desire.

Global, schnobal. Remember the EU pukes crowing that their economy was uncoupled from that of the U. S.? Mittal et al. notwithstanding, four buck gas means Americans cut back with the associated ripple effect to foreign exporters. Can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing dealer incentives on rice-grinders and krautmobiles.

What would life be with out the chicken little’s looking for new catastrophes daily? Must be like a hallmark greeting card sloganeers. There are just so many ways to say something with true feeling, than it becomes stock drivel.

That’s what I think when my mind briefly thinks on the global warming /climate/ pollution/ co,2 poisoning of the Planet even though tree's need to breath it to survive. Plus the missing bee's, swine flu(hey what a comeback) & other Catastrophic events propounded continually to distract us from real problems.
Like HRC,s stealing our Liberty's, or the West being raped yet again of resources if the enviro-nuts get in Dion. Or the dismal record of honesty or openness in Governments of any political color. The abuse of the tax system As well, the ever popular lets double our checks politico’s. Than give back a small bit of pork to constituents using there own money to bribe them. Nest feather’s all. I don’t expect these “civil servants” do anything but keep out of citizens way to improve this Country. They can’t even do that. So now it’s the economy that is going to plunge to Hades. What next?
