Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here is Sergei Nakariakov performing Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestersuite #3 ("Air"), BWV 1068 (3:38).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.
Note that per Kate's advice, I've moved the daily Reader Tips entry posting to 22:00 central time, in order to reduce conflict with the Blogging Tories aggregation algorithm. Also, the SDA LNR Archives available from the first link in these entries is now up to date, in case you're lookin' for something you've heard at SDA LNR before. And finally, in my opinion, the violinist in the background at 1:40 is, um, oh dear, my opera glasses are fogging up ;-)

July 1st, Canada Day. Mark that in your calendar, folks.
I don't know about the rest of the federal ridings, but in my riding (Oshawa-Whitby), the Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty hosts a Canada Day celebration and makes himself available as he walks about.
If there are no other such political shindigs going on in nearby ridings, I invite all Ontario-based SDA-ers to join me at the Canada Day celebration with Jim Flaherty. North campus of Durham College (or UOIT, whatever it's called now). SW corner of Simcoe Street North and Conlin Road.
Apart from the opportunity to corner Mr. Flaherty, it is a nice family outing...with a few vintage WWII vehicles on display.

The World As A Prison
By HARRISON E. SALISBURY
The concept of the world as a prison comes naturally to a Russian--his world is a prison. So it was under the Czars. So it quickly became again in the flabby white hands of the paranoid Josef Stalin. A penal society throws into dramatic relief the basic human condition: the trivial becomes tragic; the absurd becomes profound; weakness becomes strength and unreasoned faith gives life its only logic.
This is the subject of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "The First Circle," and it is this which gives the work an epic quality. But it is Solzhenitsyn's camera eye, his absolute sense of pitch, his Tolstoyan power of characterization, his deep humaneness, his almost military discipline and Greek feeling for the unities which (let us say it at once) make his work a classic."

Increasing quality of life, through incomes and capital appreciation have generally made boomers an affluent lot - indulgent with themselves, and particularly their children: who any parent wants to have it 'better than they'.
As the boomers indulge their kids, and the 'kids' delay onset of getting jobs (still in school, or maybe a false start earlier on). Remaining nested is easy, a 'pull the plug, slice the pie' ideal can set in. (That reference is to an offspring's fantasy - where one calculates the net worth of their parents.)
Some slackers can rationalize straight through to the inheritance. I think these 30 year olds are just a reflection of exactly how 'wealthy' and abundant our society is.

Anyone involved in the music business knows how easy it is to alter sounds on a computer rig.
When you expand the audio file to show splice points where the audio has been tampered with, you've basically got an unreliable audio recording.
There is no way to 'hide' the unmistakable splice points. One may attempt to minimize the splice point distortions, but they will still show up for the trained ear and eye.
This is even easier to detect when working with multiple tracked audio slices. What you need to look for are sound wave discontinuities, which are the 'signature' of a splice in the audio.
If the tape is absent discontinuities, you know you have a 'clean' audio signal.
Some professional products for audio editing come from Emagic for the Mac, or Cubase for Windows, along with a variety of other software.
You just edit and download to tape, CD or DVD and viola!
You can even make a singer sing 'pitch perfect' by editing the audio file.

"Networks That Hyped Haditha 'Massacre' Now Ignore Acquittal
The same network newscasts that hyped the 2005 "alleged massacre" by U.S. soldiers in Haditha are so far ignoring the acquittal on all charges of Lieutenant Andrew Grayson on Thursday. Grayson was accused of attempting to cover up details of the events surrounding a raid that lead to the death of 15 Iraqis. However, Grayson's acquittal was skipped by ABC's "Good Morning America," CBS's "Early Show" and NBC's "Today" show. (CNN's "American Morning" covered the story only as a news brief.)
In contrast, the morning shows seemed much more interested in the subject back when dark allegations were made about the actions of U.S. solders in Haditha. On Memorial Day 2006, then-GMA host Charles Gibson intoned, "America honors its fallen war heroes, but troubling new information about Marine misconduct in Iraq. A new eyewitness on what could be a mass murder of civilians. Was there a cover-up?" On the March 20, 2006, "Nightly News," host Brian Williams touted the "disturbing new allegations" made by Congressman John Murtha about Haditha. (It should be noted that, so far, five of the eight originally charged with murder or cover-up have been acquitted.) On May 25, 2006, referencing the massacre of hundreds of Vietnamese civilians in 1968, "Nightline" host Terry Moran speculated, "Will Haditha be the My Lai of the Middle East?" On June 7 of that year, reporter Andrea Mitchell opined on "Today" that Haditha was a "black eye for American policy.""

No matter how much lecturing goes on, there's nothing like a taste of market forces to change people's behaviour. How long have environmentalists been badgering and sermonizing about our gas-guzzling, planet-destroying ways? And how did that go? For every conscientious soul who bought a Prius, a hundred others bought trucks and SUVs.
Then gas prices doubled, and the market for gas guzzlers tanked overnight. It's not coming back. As economist Jeff Rubin said, "Two-hundred-dollar oil will do more than 100 Kyoto agreements."
So why aren't people cheering? Where's Ontario's Premier Dalton McGuinty who, just this week, denounced Ottawa for its do-nothing environmental policy, and pledged he would lead us to the future with his bold new carbon-trading plan? Where's Jack Layton, who insists that "there has to be a constraint on carbon emissions"? Or Stéphane Dion, who insists we need to "put a price on carbon"? Isn't that precisely what's just happened?"
"Every politician is required by popular opinion to tackle climate change. Yet, it must be dawning on any politician with an IQ higher than a turnip that this feat requires considerable sleight of hand. You must be seen to be doing something big (and preferably get your picture on the front page), without actually doing anything big enough to inflict pain, because as soon as you do that, the voters will kick your sorry ass around the block. You must learn to suck and blow at the same time. The troubles in Ontario's heartland are an inevitable case in point."

WOW MAN!
Posted by: Bart at June 5, 2008 8:31 PMAncient Egypt was one of the world's first socialist countries; and, one of the longest lasting.
Yes, it was a socialist pyramid scheme; complete with bulls and bullsjkt like today's socialist pyramid schemes. (See *Annie Besant, 1912, and her Fairy State. Shades of Citoyen Dion as Rameses/King Tut.)

"'Missing Pyramid' Found by Egyptian Archaeologists
SAQQARA, Egypt — Egypt unveiled on Thursday a newly uncovered 4,000-year-old "missing pyramid" and a ceremonial procession road where high priests, their faces obscured by masks, once carried mummified sacred bulls worshipped in the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis."

* " THE FUTURE SOCIALISM"
"We see traces of that remaining in the civilization of ancient Egypt; we see traces of it in the civilization of Peru which was destroyed by Pizarro;"
"Now, with regard to this ancient Socialism, the King stood as an autocrat at the head ;around him a number of nobles, of priests - names that are well beloved among Socialists, but I must tell my story truly. That King, those nobles, those priests, were of a more developed humanity than the great labouring populations of the time, and the whole arrangement of the State was the arrangement of the family. Now, I believe that the arrangement of the family is the model for all healthy human organization, and that that great phrase: “From every one according to his capacities, to every one according to his needs” is the last, as it was the earliest word, of social organization. That was the rule which guided my Fairy State."
[Conclusion]
"A democratic Socialism, controlled by majority votes, guided by numbers, can never succeed; a truly aristocratic Socialism, controlled by duty, guided by wisdom, is the next step upwards in civilization."

Folks, We gotta get Gormley moving on this issue. The Province has been very quiet on it. Our provincial inquisition law is no better than anyone else's. We all know that John has the ability to move oppinion, just ask Lorne. In the words of the "tobacco facists", we need to "denormalize" the HRC in this province. The act needs to be carefully rewritten so that you don't have to be a minority to complain. An Example: I hold a "Decendant's of families from Great Britain ONLY" bowling tournament, is banned because a treaty indian is by the nature of his race not permitted to play: BUT an Indian Only (Treaty card required) tournament is ok. You or I can't complain because by being white we aren't afforded the protection of the act.
ASK THE MINISTER TO JUSTIFY THIS!

File this under "This can't be happening"
Washington DC, with the strictest gun ban in the US is now resorting to police checkpoints for cars entering the Trinidad suburb. The gun violence is so severe the police chief has instituted this futile attempt to stop crime.
Does Mayor Miller know about this? I thought when guns were banned that all crime would cease involving guns as the criminals would now know it is illegal to use one in a crime. This is clearly unacceptable and these crooks need a good talking to.
Any chance that there is a common link between the people in Detroit, the Bronx, Johannesburg, Brixton...naw probably just a coincidence.
