Opera Lovers Delight

I'd say that some things are beyond parody ... but then, this is SDA:

MILAN, Italy (AP) — First it was the film and the book. Now the next stop for Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is opera.

La Scala officials say the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to produce an opera on the international multiformat hit for the 2011 season at the Milan opera house. The composer is currently artistic director of the Arena in Verona.

Al Gore e mobile, qual prima al vento muto d'accento e di pensiero....

Posted by: Nicola Timmerman at May 30, 2008 6:40 PM

If it means I get to watch his character die suffocating on his own gases, I'm in. (And I expect that death to last at least three arias).

If I use Google, DrD, to translate qual prima al vento muto d'accento e di pensiero from Italian to English, it reports: "what the first wind changes of emphasis and thought". Clearly, according to other Google hits for the phrase, it has something to do with the La donna è mobile (the woman is fickle) tune from Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, so it would seem to me that what Nicola was alluding to regarding Mr. Gore is: he is fickle, the first wind changes his emphasis and thought. But past that point I'm pretty much in over my head, other than to note this performance of La donna e mobile by the Three Tenors: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfJyiGmVuo0

When something become art it is no longer reality, it is art. It will be looked upon as nothing more than an elaborate musical protest song.

Fat Albert's opera was never reality to begin with so this will not be a biggie.

Oooooooooooooh, I'm just imagining all the 'dreadful anthropogenic global warming carbon dioxide' that will be vented during even just ONE aria. It gives me a thrill down my leg.

When I worked in theater (stage designer, scenic artist) we used to say,t "Theater is a refuge for the deranged and troubled, but Opera is the Insane Asylum." I worked on a few operas too, and it's true. Algore is in a fitting resting place among Don Giovanni, Faust and the Flying Dutchman.

Now wait just a minute. Do you people actually
know anything about opera? Have you even studied
the basic introduction available here:

Hey - I love opera. And it will be great to watch Al Gore, as St. Sophist Saviour (Angelotti?), weep over the Loss of Purity of the Beautiful World (Tosca?)and he will eventually succumb to the anthropogenic gases caused by, alas, the Evil Industrial Capitalists of the World (Scarpa?). ...I wonder how much money Gore will make out of this..

Priceless Vit. Perhaps, per Victor Borge the opera could be named "Rigor Mortis".

Posted by: DrD at May 30, 2008 10:22 PM

Does this mean the fat lady is about to sing for the bloviator and his falsisms?

Posted by: Woodporter at May 30, 2008 11:34 PM

Personally, DrD, I think Gore's new opera should be called Hok a Chainik.

Posted by: Vitruvius at May 31, 2008 12:37 AM

Its not over till the fat man sings.

Posted by: bob at May 31, 2008 9:18 AM

We'll all know its over when the fat lady bursts into flames (due to global warming, naturally)...

You ain’t nothing but a hok a chainik,
Just kvetching all the time.

You ain’t nothing but a hok a chainik,
Just kvetching all the time.

You ain’t never brought a brisket,
So you ain’t no mensch of mine.”
