... and what do you find?
LONDON -- After hundreds of angry drivers shut down highways in England yesterday in protest against green automobile taxes, and drivers and fishermen in France and Spain paralyzed their ports and roads in a fuel-tax protest, politicians began to signal Europe's ambitious emission-control policies may soon have to be abandoned.
While Europe has led the way in using tax incentives to encourage people to buy low-emission cars and to build carbon-neutral houses in order to meet Kyoto targets, it has become increasingly apparent that inflation-battered voters are no longer willing to go along.
When I composed the ecophobe checklist, it was meant to be a joke ... I may need to rethink that. There's got to be a way of telling a genuine "green" from a fake.
For you earth haters ... you can rate yourself here ... click.
Posted by Cjunk at May 29, 2008 8:35 PMApparently I was supposed to have died at age 1.5 years...
*snif*
I'm so proud...
And Algore and suzuki can kiss my a$$...
Posted by: Bruce at May 29, 2008 9:14 PM3.4, but I use a composter and I drive a small car most of the time. I'm so unworthy, sigh... note to self, must use firepit more often..
Posted by: alamatl at May 29, 2008 9:23 PMI should have died at 2.8 years. Alas, I refuse to cooperate.
Posted by: Woodporter at May 29, 2008 9:29 PMNow THERE'S an idea. If we in America did something like that to protest the fact that we aren't drilling for oil here ...
Posted by: Mister Prickly at May 29, 2008 9:37 PMHoly schmoly. 2.1 years. Let's see...cypher the 0,carry the multiplexer...wow...I've lived 2400% longer then I should have.(and that's just about how much my taxes have gone up...heh). And I ain't changing a thing.

The people are waking up and calling Kyoto for what it is. Snake Oil.
I could only dream of seeing Gore and Suezuky sued.
faster faster please

Posted by: G at May 29, 2008 10:16 PMC'mon your supposed to be in Awe of the sacrifices these people are willing to make!
Even if they have no intention of making them and are only promoting the sacrifices as things that would be good for YOU to do..... ;-)
Can I change that to Suezuchi ?
(It looks more "green" that way)

Haha, 2.6. I'm so pleased I think I'll go start something and let it idle.

I did fruit fly guy got 3.9 years ... 58.8 tons
Anyone else got estimates on the planet savers?
Posted by: ural at May 29, 2008 10:59 PM5.3, but I do recycle and compost, so maybe I should stop?? It increased my life by about 1 year. Shows how useless being green really is!
They are killing people's desire to be green with a site like that, we will all just throw our hands up and go back to being hogs.
Environment Canada just issued FROST WARNINGS for parts of the Maritimes. 29th of MAY !!
Global Warming ? Uh Huh.
Posted by: Fred at May 29, 2008 11:13 PMRats Im the same as Dr. Mengele Suzuki. of course I dont have a 7 million dollar mansion on Kitsalano Beach or a huge place at Quadra Island.
and I shave everyday so that uses some energy.
just think of how much better we would live if we used the recommended organic farming practices of Cuba like Dr. Fruitfly promoted on CBCpravda.
Posted by: cal2 at May 29, 2008 11:21 PMI'm a bit suspicious about this calculator as I seemed to be doing well till I got to the question about how much money I spent last year. 1.9 years after that. The amount of money I spend is only going up as the price of gas is going up.
Posted by: loki at May 29, 2008 11:58 PMloki,
It's a socialist calculator. If you increase the amount you spend in step 10 and increase c in step 11 you'll be a saviour. If you decrease the amount in step 10 but still spend it all on a nutbar org ... you'll still be OK. BTW: You can go back and change them.
HINT: It doesn't really matter what you do in the first 9 steps.
I can live with lying about the last 2 steps ... I should live for ever!!!!
Posted by: ural at May 30, 2008 12:19 AMI proudly produce 59.2 tons a year. I should die at 3.9 years of age according to the human haters.
However, consider how many families and children I helped fee through my processing money through the food and commodity chains.
If we all live like a cockroaches instead of pigs, many would starve to death waiting for governments to buy them lunch.
Pigs do fly!
Posted by: John V at May 30, 2008 12:20 AMConsider that Al Gore's carbon footprint should have had him aborted in the first hour of egg fertilization. In fact I think perhaps it should go back further, his dad should have been castrated at puberty.
Life would be more normal if that were the case. Time and time again we have seen that it only takes one scummy human being to totally screw an entire generation or two.
It's a really dumb test, but I am sure it's fans consider it genius.
Posted by: John V at May 30, 2008 12:26 AMMister Prickly:
That will be the next step in the decline of the AGW lobby's influence. If one of the three POTUS candidates breaks ranks and uses the expand domestic oil drilling pander then the game is over for the AGW crowd. It vould happen if gas gets above $500 this summer. It's also why Exxon is a lot more beligerent of late...

Posted by: RobertJago at May 30, 2008 4:41 AMat 64 i guess my death at38.5 isn't very accurate. heh.
Posted by: old white guy at May 30, 2008 5:30 AMI metered up at 2.5 . But, with the addition of a 23 ft boat to the family fleet this year, I am sure that my rating will drop down to where I should never have been born. As well, I am in the process of purchasing a zodiac type craft c/w a 50hp engine, to tow as a lifeboat/tubing machine(as in the kids riding a tube).
I must thank all of the greenies. Their hysteria and guilt tripping have resulted in the price of used power boats decreasing substantially.
One must love the law of unintended consequences!
Posted by: kingstonlad at May 30, 2008 6:20 AMYup... As long as you spend all your money on eco-friendly companies (read as greenie's personal retirement plans) then all is forgiven.
"You can live forever!"
What a joke.
How you live is irrelevant.
Just buy up as many carbon credits as you can for complete forgiveness!
I think I'll stick to investing in that swampland. Better rate of return!
"... and what do you find?"
a sociopath, a anti-humanist and a depopulationist...it's a death cult in green wrappers.
Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at May 30, 2008 8:21 AMMost of you have missed the point. This is a website aimed at children. It's not enough that kids have enough self-image problems when they're young. Now we have a website that tells them they are fat little pigs and all going to die, and that the normal things that people like and enjoy are pure selfishness.
This website is utterly vile beyond description. Understand very clearly, this is the sort of unspeakable cr*p that is deemed appropriate for education curriculum purposes.
Posted by: cgh at May 30, 2008 8:44 AMEr, the calculator's either utterly vile, or brilliant satire beyond all description.
BTW, I scored 5.8 years on this thing. That kinda annoys me — I've been trying to increase my carbon footprint (the more carbon a person emits, the more likely it is they have a comfortable lifestyle, and the planet's gonna be here billions of years after I'm dead). I was hoping this calculator would tell me that I should have died when I was a gleam in my parents' eyes...
Posted by: Garth Wood at May 30, 2008 9:01 AMThe site is not satire; it's aimed at kids. If I'm not mistaken, it's put out by the Ausie equivalent of CBC Pravda.
Posted by: Paul at May 30, 2008 9:40 AMI achieved 9.2 years. By the standards set by the majority of other posters, I guess I'm earth-friendly.
Posted by: RM at May 30, 2008 10:57 AMI made it to 1.4 years, but only because there's no place to put in that I own 5 cars.
Hey, only four of them work, come on! Number five needs a new engine. Anybody know where I can score a Ford flathead V8?
Maybe I should start them all up at once, that'd be cool. And maybe the lawnmower too, lawn's gettin' shaggy today. Grass still grows when its cold, damn it. 62F today. Barf.
Posted by: The Phantom at May 30, 2008 11:20 AMGarth, if it was satire, I would laugh too. It's not, it's propaganda aimed at children.
BTW, the earth may last for billions of years, well 1 billion until the sun turns into a red giant, but life won't. Most of the earth's plant life dies off about 100 million years from now when the CO2 concentration drops below levels that will sustain photosynthesis. About 200 million years from now, the troposphere will have increased to sufficient height that the planet's water will largely evaporate.
It comes as a bit of a shock to recognize that in the life cycle of our planet, the existence of life is about 90 per cent completed.
Posted by: cgh at May 30, 2008 1:14 PMMade it to 6.4, which surprised me (I drive a hybrid, recycle, cycle to work a few times per week). As has been noted, the annual spending is what killed me young :)
I'm very sceptical of climate change and am dismayed by the polarization of the debates (I thought Galileo demonstrated the dangers of absolute thinking). At the same time, I like to reduce my environmental impact where not too inconvenient (I love the irony of heated seats in my hybrid).
I suspect the Al and Suzuki would do better than average, as they are likely investing significant dollars in the environmental fear economy. The calculator lets these guys off the hook for buying green credits.
It's clever really...promotes the climate change message quite effectively, while giving the rich eco prophets a clean bill of health.
Posted by: Chas at May 30, 2008 1:29 PMThe green-o-meter isn't working this afternoon. Doesn't matter because with vehicle use and spending as major indicators, I'm dead before I'm born. Fine. My red rocket gets really superior mileage until one pegs the accelerator and then it drops to around 16 which still ain't bad when one is breezing along at triple digits. My daily driver doesn't do that well even when driven in a more sedate manner given the V8, all wheel drive and 4,400 lbs. curb weight. But the important thing is, I look and feel good. I've been working for 37 years and plan to work another 5. At this point, those are the priorities, folks. Al, your mother.
