Repeat After Me

"We will not fight another war for these people, we will not fight another war .."

Plans to eliminate Eurosceptics as an organised opposition within the European Parliament are expected to be agreed by a majority of MEPs this summer.

The European Union assembly’s political establishment is pushing through changes that will silence dissidents by changing the rules allowing Euro-MPs to form political groupings.

Richard Corbett, a British Labour MEP, is leading the charge to cut the number of party political tendencies in the Parliament next year, a move that would dissolve UKIP’s pan-European Eurosceptic “Independence and Democracy” grouping.

[...]

The row over the new EU Treaty meanwhile took a new turn yesterday after José Manuel Barroso, the Commission President, warned Irish voters that they will “pay” if they reject the document in a referendum next month.

Speaking in Brussels on Monday night, Mr Barroso attempted to head off growing opposition to the Treaty by threatening outcast status for Ireland.

”If there was a ‘No’ in Ireland or in another country, it would have a very negative effect for the EU. We will all pay a price for it, Ireland included, if this is not done in a proper way,” he said.

Officials fear that advanced plans to create a new EU President, Foreign Minister and European diplomatic service will be sunk by an Irish referendum rejection on June 12.

Historically speaking, the Irish just loooooove being threatened, bullied and lorded over. That's why they loooooooooove the English. Yeah.

In proper Dave Allen tradition:

What is wrong with a little Irish independence?

Who gives a tinker's damn and tell them they can send that proposition straight to Hell.

EUtopia not working? Brussels not effective enough?

Try Sharia! Look towards Mecca for guidance!

If it comes to war, it won't be from any battles between weak, decadent EUnuchs, it will be the next CRUSADE.

This is actually very good news....
Go Irish!

Posted by: OMMAG at May 28, 2008 10:03 AM

Go Irish! Now that the Labour Fascists have decided that democracy isn't to be trusted by giving the UK voters a say...

Bloody EUrotrash, fascist tyrants. May they all hang.

It's typical that a jackboot Labour MP would be leading the fight against democracy along with a Spanish Commie.

These people need to be tried for treason, taken out and hung from lamp posts.

Barring that, dissolve NATO. They've proven they're unreliable allies (to say the least albeit with a few exceptions) and they are no longer worth defending.

”We want to avoid the formation of a fragmented Parliament,.."

He means: avoid any semblance to democracy you see.

Bravo to the Irish. It is long past time someone with courage and foresight stood up to the 'rulers' of the people. Little by little, a piece at a time we are losing to the dictators. Is this our future with the SPP/NAU?
We are supposed to be angst-ridden by the Bernier fiasco while our country is being torn out from under us. Anything to keep the serfs to find out what is really happening?

Ireland can join with France & the Netherlands (rejected the EU Constitution in 2005). Britain permanently delayed their referendum vote on the constitution for some reason that presently escapes me.

The EU will continue strong arm tactics and wait for a convenient wane in opposition before trying again to shove a constitutional spider's web to ensnare 496 million people. Most europeans don't want the big brother super state that the elite seem only too eager to deliver. They just want more freedom. That won't happen if Ireland votes "Yes".

Fourth Reich rising?

I'm not counting on the Irish, they have been big beneficiaries of EU agriculture subsidies. These aren't the same feisty individualistic Irish of my grandparents generation. When I last visited they were morphing into typical Eurosheeple. I'll be surprised if they have the courage to walk from the socialist welfare trough.

I think it is safe to formally describe the EU as a fascist state. Brussels has only a few more pockets of insurrection to put out. They'll eventually win as the price of resistance is ratcheting up.

Hey, what happened to the Scots? We depend on the Irish to stick up for us now against the odious Euroweenies? WTF?!!!

Somebody needs a Glasgow kiss!

Posted by: The Phantom at May 28, 2008 12:55 PM

Ireland can always do business with us North Americans. They don't need the EU. If these idiots think a threat will endear them with voters, whom it appears they have nothing but contempt. Have they got a lot to learn. But what do you expect from bureaucratic class of fools who never leave there plush offices or face a real electorate. Next war they cause, they can stuff it. Let em suffer. Why should we die for morons who never learn, again & again? Bosnia proved they have no brains or control, let alone what real democracy is. Its one huge committee of fools pretending governance, with looming disastrous results & with a bully‘s distain.

Phantom, the Scots are total socialist Eurosheeple now, or, at least their political elite are. That's the rub with the underrepresented, lacking their own regional parliament now, anti-EU/Labour English. Gordon Brown is a sad example of today's Scottish wimp. Pretty pathetic, isn't it, can't count on the Celts anymore for a good dose of insurrection against the oppressive powers-that-be.

Socialism works like a zoo system, once you can herd people into captivity, cage by category, make dependent on the food keeper, not much distracts the inmates from their food dish.

Just goes to show the EU is the antithesis of democracy.

"That's why they loooooooooove the English. Yeah."

I thought it was immigration.

The EU needs to be destroyed! Luckily the UK will not be allowed a vote.

One can only hope that the Irish will strike another famous blow for freedom:

"One often unknown key event was a visit that Ben Franklin made to Ireland. At the time, Ben was on the fence about the whole revolution thing because he still loved England. But he was invited to stay at the castle of some English guy in Ireland (sorry, I don't recall all the details) and one day he asked the driver of his carriage to take him around the countryside. The driver did so despite telling Ben that he'd get into a lot of trouble for it, but Franklin insisted.

What he saw were the desperate and impoverished Irish, dying from starvation under the rule of King George, and he could easily imagine the same thing happening to the American colonies. Franklin wrote in his diary that this event caused him to support the colonies wholeheartedly and from then on, he was an American. He went on to garner support from other European nations (mostly France), and through his own unique methods helped win the war."

I hope that the Irish people will have the will to reject a union with an outfit that will likely outlaw freckles and red hair - as well as Liberty for 'pale skins'.

Like Penny, I do have doubts about the legendary Celtic backbone (it seems to exist only in W. Virgina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas these days). The Irish in Ireland have elected a very Bolshevistic type of parliament - eg. Free post secondary education, first BLANKET smoking ban...the Irish have lost their 'fire' on the way to the European bank. Sad, but I will hope anyway.

”We want to avoid the formation of a fragmented Parliament" ...

So did Charles III.

I agree with Kate, war in Europe is coming and this time we need to let it proceed, unmolested.
