That he got the camp wrong begs the questions: Did his uncle even go to a concentration camp? And did he actually spend months in his room after returning home?

Someone really needs to sit BO down and ask him questions to discover whether he is under the misapprehension that Auschwitz was the only place where concentration camps existed - if you listen to the video he says "...into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps...".

The more I read about BO's shakey knowledge of history, pre-vietnam at least , the more I suspect he has practically nil understanding of the very important era of 1910 to 1970 - an era that still has tremendous influence on the motives and machinations of states today - not the least of which are the countries in the ME.

During international negotiations BO could really be taken for a (disastrous) ride IMO.

From the US having 57 states to Roosevelt meeting with the enemy to Illinois bordering Kentucky to his uncle liberating Auschwitz, Obama is coming across as, frankly, quite stupid.

Will we come to lament the passing of Bush's wisdom?

Just for fun, Google "uncle in the attic"

Obama has several "uncles".

Posted by: john at May 27, 2008 4:05 PM

Six months of, what, in a stupor, fasting, in the attic, what a cheesey piece of pandering bs. Please. It's an insult to the troops that did liberate those camps across Europe.

America's left has found a knucklehead fabulist bigger than Dion. God help us.

I'm sure the media entourage swooned in appreciation, just loving Obama's sharing this complete crap with all of us. Gag.

Why, why that Obama does it all, by golly. Could he be better the Al Gore? Na, nobody's better that that. Just a thought.

Obama has several "uncles".

Amazing, considering his mama was an only child. Or perhaps Rev Wright and Dick Cheney are part of his family.

"Uncle Joe" Stalin?

Posted by: DirtCrashr at May 27, 2008 6:26 PM

My Dad was one of the Canadian soldiers who liberated one of the camps, alongside the British Army, but it was in Germany, not Poland. Many years after the war, he spoke of the British Engineers burying the hundreds of dead with bulldozers. It horrified him all his life, until he died of cancer age 79.

Hillary and Obama, with their tales of dodging sniper bullets, and Uncles liberating Death Camps, are trying to show, in a rather pathetic way, that they understand John McCain's ordeal, and are just as worthy to serve as President.

Obama's Russian Uncle should give him a real advantage in State to State negotiations with Russia, when he's President. I can't wait for his first official visit to Canada's capital, Toronto, and his meeting with Prime Minister Dion.

It's ok to have a fair negative opinion of Obama that is your choice. You can call him a scmuck or idiot or whatever.

The part that devalues some of your opinions is the blatent bigotry that some people show when they descibe him. Why does he have to be dumb and black/arab. Why cant he just be a person who is dumb?

Nope I stand by my statment.
Many people suffered from the mental anguish that the vets went through. To act like it never happened is just burying your head in the sand.

To be fair I should have said SOME but so should have John V.

Posted by: Right of centre at May 27, 2008 9:20 PM

Just for the record, here's a transcript of the video. I did this myself -- it's not from an online source.

Umm... I had a uncle who was one of the... um... who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz, and liberate the concentration camps. And the story in our family was that when he came home, he just went up into the, into the attic and he didn't leave the house for six months. Right? Now, obviously something had, had, really affected him deeply. But, at that time, there wer-, there just weren't the kinds of, um, facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain.

It was nice sparring with you.

^^^^right back at yah Jim

I wish it could be like this more often.

Posted by: Right of centre at May 27, 2008 9:37 PM

To be fair, I'd be in a lot of pain too if I'd inadvertently separated from my unit and marched alone across Nazi-occupied Poland to single-handedly liberate Auschwitz ahead of the Red Army. Gawd, the blisters alone would have kept me in the attic for a year.
I think the Legions were the ultimate group therapy organizations after the wars. No professional counsellor could provide the same safe, understanding environment that the Legions did for the vets. Most of the vets grew through and out of that environment over the years; others unfortunately never did and ended up as burned out alcoholics. That's a human tragedy, but hardly something to rub their noses in. And many men have indulged themselves in "the Demon Rum" and abused their spouses without ever being exposed to any of the horrors the vets faced.

Tell me, genius. If a black man tells a lie, deliberately, for personal gain, is he just a blameless victim of The White Man who can't help himself? Or is he a liar?

Question two, am I a RACIST for asking you that, bolik?

Posted by: The Phantom at May 27, 2008 11:51 PM

Hey phantom

Yes. Bush did hide from danger during Vietnam by

1) having his father get him into the Guard, far out of the reach of combat, and

2) specializing in flying a plane so obsolete that it guaranteed he'd never be sent to Vietnam to fly it.

Just what does a man's colour have to do, Phantom with whether he's 'lying' or not?

Posted by: Richard Evans at May 28, 2008 12:34 AM

I think this whole aura of "Obama" is built on the race issue. The blacks are proud of what he has accomplished and blindly vote for the man's colour, and this is verified by polling numbers and many, many news items. I have heard that the American people are on the verge of making history over and over if Obama is elected. Now think,is that a valid reason to put a man in charge of the world's only superpower? History can also be made if a majority of people wrote in Michael Jackson on their ballots. As Martin Luther King said"judge a man by the content of his character, not by the colour of his skin".Obama fails the character test.

According to Rush Limbaug, Obama got into college via affirmative action and graduated due to affirmative action. While the former action probably facilitated his attending college the later explains why he appears so dim at times.

In his memorial day speech yesterday he addressed a crowd of veterans by saying something to the effect that they were there to honor a long string of soldiers from current and previous wars "many of whom are here today". Either he doesn't understand that memorial day honors the dead soldiers or he really is stupid. I vote for the later.

bolik - I don't give a tinker's damn if Obama is red white yellow pink black sharteuse toape or roygbiv (colors of the rainbow) - he is, now that he is the presumptive nominee, showing himself to be not quite what folks might have thought him to be the last little while. And guess what? He will be more and more under the microscope of not only the media but voters everywhere. By his performance lately I'd say that he is going to have his ass sorely kicked. He will not be able to avoid it - not only because the media spotlight will be on him solely because Hill will be old news but also because the MSM, in spite of their love for this phoney, will have to show at least a modicum of professionalism and call him on any gaffs he throws out there (and there will CONTINUE to be many).

The Dems are throwing out a big ol juicy softball that McCain is going to knock clear out of the park. They are the fools I have always believed them to be if they don't nominate Hillary (much as I dislike and distain her)as their nominee.

Go "bama" Go!!!

Posted by: a different Bob at May 28, 2008 1:13 AM

Regarding George Bush and the F-102 Delta Dagger. The idea that national guard service in the F-102 units was a hide away from the Vietnam war is a recurring leftist meme. However, it is erroneous. F-102 squadrons were deployed in Vietnam and Thailand throughout the America involvement in the Vietnam war. The Daggers were employed on B-52 escort, and occasionally in ground attack missions -- a role which was particularly risky as the F102 Delta Dagger was originally configured as a high altitude interceptor and was ill-suited to the ground attack role. George Bush began training on the Dagger at a time when it was being used actively in Vietnam, however by the time he was fully trained and eventually discharged, its role had been largely supplanted by the F-4 Phantom. There is no credible evidence that Bush was in any way "protected" from service in theatre during the Vietnam war.

Posted by: DrD at May 28, 2008 1:16 AM

Oh and bolik - I can't let you get away with the usual leftard "racist" jab at the Right. Have you looked at the polls in the U S that seriously suggest that many who would support Hillary would not vote for Obama because of his race. Yes, bolik, we are talking about the self-righteous LEFT voters who would not vote for Obama because his is (dare I say it) BLACK!!! So stick it in your ear bolik. I am as White as they come and a "neocon" as you would brand me but I'll tell you one thing - if Condi Rice were the nominee for the Republicans and I was a U S citizen eligible to vote, not only would I vote for her, I'd be out there campaigning my ass off for her.

That is the big difference between the Left and the Right. The Right include minorities for their talent and abilities. The left keep them suppressed and try to convince them that the reason they are downtrodden is because of the bigotry of the Right. GWB is so right when he call the Dems on the "bigotry of low expectations".

bolik - you and your ilk are being outted on a daily basis and i'd say its about time. Crawl back into your hole.

Obama sounded like a man telling another man's story. He should have said " I heard about a Russian vet who helped liberate Auschwitz...". This personalized fabrication is a hallmark sign of a very immature and insecure person in my opinion. Maybe he was thinking of himself when he said some people needed mental help.

I remember Eric Nielson calling out the PET one day in the HOC; few people knew the PETS 'war' record; Eric was a fighter pilot. The PET shriveled to a black slimy when the light was shed on him - pathetic but not someone that people in their right minds would elect to run their country.
