In late breaking Twisting The Knife News - Mark Steyn's Monday appearance at the Fraser Institute has sold out.
At $500 a ticket.
Posted by Kate at May 22, 2008 9:54 PMThat is SO sweet.
Posted by: djb at May 22, 2008 10:16 PMOnly 182 tickets available for a potential draw of a Lower Mainland Population of 2.5 million.
Slightly larger venue, for those interested in public policy discussions where half the population work directly or indirectly servicing the government.
This would qualify as a "mis-under-guess-timation".
Further, the unit cost for the ticket price would drop accordingly.
Cheers

Posted by: Richard Ball at May 22, 2008 10:40 PMKate: just another crazed canine conservative or CCC.
If the country is going to the dogs, who better to hang out with than a dog breeder?
But then Stephen Harper keeps a cat and so do I!

Oh, and Hans? Cats are imps of satan, plague carriers, and a strain on the health care system.
Now, a dog, on the other hand...I've a cross between a border collie and a sheppard-rottweiler mix. Territorial, alert, and death on the local wildlife – a perfect farm dog.
All that is wrong with Harper can be attributed to the influence of cats.
Kate? Can I intercede for Hans? I get a kick out of his handle. Maybe just eliminate the extra line breaks?
Not absolutely on topic, but given that Steyn is such a genius at turning a phrase and coining new expressions (EUtopia being a standard of his), he would probably approve of a brand new term just born today:
http://americandigest.org/mt-archives/bad_americans/the_pacifascist.php
Brilliant, and it deserves to be brought into common use.
(As noted, it originated with a comment at The Belmont Club, a wonderful site for geopolitical commentary.)
...thanks Kate.
Posted by: tomax7 at May 23, 2008 12:01 AMHas anyone ever paid $500 each to hear Kinsella? Even at his (long past) prime?
Normally I don't believe that "life is high school, with money" but: I think Kinsella's profound animus towards Steyn is 90% jealousy.
How come a high school dropout/former DJ gets invited to the White House and Kinsella doesn't, he wonders?
Kinsella's time in the sun is over. Young Liberals I've spoken to can't stand him -- he is, well, an old fart to them, which must really sting given Kinsella's carefully constructed public image as Young Turk.
Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at May 23, 2008 7:32 AMDon't worry Kathy, the Diddler online show, that Seinfeld show of Coruses in the afternoon, "the show about nothing", will still continue to prop up that loser Kinsella and his liberazi take on life. You know the tolerant ones, the liberazi's, the ones that are sooo tolerant of everyone's view" AS LONG AS THE VIEWS ARE THE SAME AS THEIRS". Kinsella and Adler deserve each other, throw in Jim Travers and you have the Gump triplets.
Posted by: bartinsky at May 23, 2008 9:10 AMand if only mark steyn played a musical instrument...if only kate and kathy and ezra swung an axe as well...can you imagine how bent out of shape superduper K-man would be as the 'travelling neocons' toured this grand old dominion selling out in every burg and jerkwater town (i'm thinking ottawa and toronto).....la shaidle belting out her hit tunes "blow it up yer keester you losers".....'get a fricking job you asshats"..."i bitchslapped a LLLiberal today"...and "let's toss Mohammed OFF the mountain."
the t-shirt sales alone would enable her to blog for the rest of her life !
Posted by: john begley at May 23, 2008 11:22 AMDoesn't Steyn play the piano?
I smell a Battle of the Bands in the making.
Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at May 23, 2008 12:49 PMWe need Mark Steyn to come down here and speak about the inherent dangers in a bill of rights that's embedded in the constitution; British imperialism today; and the evil done by Human Rights Commissions.
Cayman is about to learn some things the hard way.
Posted by: lwestin at May 23, 2008 3:07 PMI had the good fortune of meeting Steyn in person (for free) and I can assure you all that he is the real deal, he is extremely witty and clever off-the-cuff. $500 is a lot of money, but he will certainly deliver the goods.
Posted by: sf at May 23, 2008 5:38 PMyes...as la shaidle appears from behind the curtain and approaches the mic a low murmer begins and slowly swells to a grunting miasmic bellowing...a chant begins beating out a rhythm recognizable as a 12 bar gregorian chant.....the stage is showered with bushel after peck of 303 cartridges.....her mascara...her eye liner are smudged...she's been crying....we know she cries for us....piaf and garland look like cold weak chicory coffee compared to her....
the lights slowly glow brighter...and there's levant behind her blowing on a comb with a two sided fax between the teeth....and steyn beside him in blackface hammering the 88s in a frenzy...can it be ??!!...YES!! he's wearing a fez....the crowd is delirious...and there to one side gentle kate sawing away on a cello with a bow that reaches all the way to the beaches...
all fall still and silent...with the audience's roar receding to an expectant thrum....la shaidle dabs at her eyes...blows her nose on an editorial page of the Guardian and launches into the band's signature hit tune "je ne regrette rien".
