“Last year she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, eventually won by Al Gore."
Posted by Kate at May 16, 2008 5:15 PMAmazing woman, incredible. May God bless her soul.
Posted by: kelly at May 16, 2008 6:11 PMSo brave. What a beautiful woman.
Posted by: northbaytrapper at May 16, 2008 6:21 PMIt's the Nobel committees that need to hide in shame.... Gore's just a jackass.
A Nobel prize has been rendered valueless in every sense of the word.
Posted by: Liz J at May 16, 2008 6:52 PMWhat a disgraceful decision. The Prize is a joke.
A couple of years back, another such woman died; she slept with her Nazi boss to keep her Jewish co-workers alive.
But who do we have to hear about? Al Gore.
Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at May 16, 2008 7:07 PMWonderful sentiments, all of you. Go to the nobel site as I did, and make sure that they are aware of your disgust. Not only in that they took the cause of the day and misplaced the award, but remind them that the award was for PEACE, not for FICTION.

Posted by: Hans Rupprecht at May 16, 2008 7:37 PMOur generation, as Danny Kruger put it in the best tract of 2007, is moralistic rather than moral. We are better at holding opinions about what governments or multi-nationals should do than we are at doing the right thing by our neighbours.
This is a quote from the article, and it hit me right between the eyes.
The fact that I know anything about anyone in the pop culture, and I never heard of this lady, makes me sick and ashamed of my ignorance.
Well, disgusting as the Noble prize folks are, this woman's story eclipses anything Al Gore or any Nobel prize committee would have to say. Her's is a courage that we should all aspire to. The Bible says that "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." But this Lady even trumped that, she risked her life and endured torture for people she didn't even properly know. What an inspiration she is. God bless her soul.
Posted by: CanuckInMI at May 16, 2008 8:50 PMIrina Sendler only saved Jews.
Al Gore saved the planet.
Posted by: set you free at May 16, 2008 9:10 PMYes, and he invented the internet.
Posted by: Freedom Fan at May 16, 2008 9:22 PMalgore invented twisty bulbs and IrenaSendler invented the fission reactor.
Posted by: reg dunlop at May 16, 2008 9:43 PMThere are "citizens of the just" and then there are just citizens. I know to which I aspire.
Posted by: Porter at May 16, 2008 11:05 PMIt's not just that Al Gore won in 2007, although that's certainly bad enough. Irena Sendler must have been known to the prize committee long before that. And to whom were they awarding the prize? 2002 - Jimmy Carter, 2001 - Kofi Annan, 1994 - Yasser Arafat, 1992 - Rigoberta Menchu Tum. Two of the most worthless human beings on the planet, a terrorist, and a woman who fabricated the stories in the book for which she was awarded the prize.
Posted by: Silicon Valley Jim at May 16, 2008 11:21 PMPardon me, "righteous among the nations". No other definition is necessary, and I still have my aspirations, however, every day I learn of how much I fall short.
Posted by: Porter at May 16, 2008 11:21 PMObviously, to win a Nobel Peace Prize, is to be counted among fools, despots, and charlatans.
Posted by: Paul at May 16, 2008 11:40 PMYes, I agree with Silicone Valley Jim, the Nobel Peace Prize committee has been hijacked long ago a political vehicle for the world government types. At least the scientific arm is still fairly objective... so far.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at May 17, 2008 5:51 AMI've never heard of her either. As for what Irena did...excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.
Posted by: tower at May 17, 2008 7:51 AMWhen they gave the nobel bullshit prize to Yassar, one of the many faces of the death cult of islam, I looked upon it as a piece of putrid garbage.
Posted by: Honey Pot at May 17, 2008 8:35 AMHuh.
All she did was save 2,500 children.
But Al is going to save the world!
Isn't he?
The first time I ever heard of Irene Sendler was at an address given by Bernie Farber of the Canadian Jewish Congress in which he paid tribute to her as a righteous gentile. Her story inspired me. Her memory will always be that of a heroine.

Posted by: J-Chapel at May 17, 2008 9:41 AM>Al Gore! I mean, nothing against the old lardbutt – it’s nice to see ex-politicians doing something they believe in rather than giving themselves over wholly to the getting of personal wealth
Gore has millions invested in "Global Warming Solutions". I cannot think of behavior that is more self centered and greedy.

Good idea - I did just that! They (Nobel organization) should be ashamed of themselves.
Posted by: sjt at May 17, 2008 12:13 PMThe Nobel Prize people are looking at the $$$. There would be no kick-backs for them if they had chosen to honor Irena!
Posted by: Jema54 at May 17, 2008 2:24 PMThe Nobel Prize once stood for something. Now its just a political show. Nobel himself would condemn them if alive for giving into social fads not real achievements. As for Gore, South Park had it right. He may be a nice lonely guy, but listening to him is dangerous.
Will the next Nobel prize be won by this star chaser for inventing the Internet next?
Posted by: Revnant Dream at May 17, 2008 6:52 PMIn a deck of cards Irena would be the Queen of Hearts and Goreacle would be a joke(r). What an awesome example of human spirit!
Posted by: Martin B. at May 17, 2008 7:11 PMwhat the "nobel people think"...that's clearly an oxymoron.
Posted by: kelly at May 17, 2008 10:34 PMA very inconvenient truth indeed, for the Nobel Committee
