UPDATE: The left show the victim their support and understanding...
Better than toots...Or Ho!
Anywho, that was a stupid question like a Liberal, NDP or Bloc would ask...It's a free market stupid!...People will buy whatever they want and right now people are going for quality imports (Or home built 'imports') and fuel economy.
Ya, lets throw tax dollars so CAW can continue filling lots with unwanted vehicles.
All that government could do that would be wise would be to give tax deductions for people going back into retraining for another field of work.
Really? Crap.
I've been trying to bring toots back.
She should be thankful he didn't ask her to bring him a cup of coffee.

"Sweetie" is another pain in the butt reporter who knew very well that she was purposely trying to stump the future Pres. Did Obama close the auto plant down?? No he didn't. Poor fuel efficiency and rising auto prices shut the plant down. Now get lost, "SWEETIE!"
Posted by: Jack B. Nimble at May 15, 2008 4:39 PM"sugar pie", "honey bunch" days all da same to a boy in da hood.
Posted by: cal2 at May 15, 2008 4:45 PM"Sweetie" is merely the more formal variant of "Baby doll."
Posted by: EBD at May 15, 2008 5:10 PMPersonally, I like "Hon".
Posted by: Ralph R at May 15, 2008 5:12 PMRespect? Do you tolerate people patronizing you and calling you "sweetie" when you're doing your job? Actually, it's the double standard that infuriates. That comment from a republican would have had the left frothing. As for that new chief executive idea, every day obama gets a little more unelectable.
Posted by: morgan swift at May 15, 2008 7:04 PMGotta give Hillary credit for stamina. She would be the best choice for the Democrats and the worst for McCain. If Obama wins the Democratic nomination, McCain will win the Presidency.
Feed the troll a shot of arsenic. The sex change is complete, Johnny Maudlin has lost his outdoor plumbing and is now Jeannie Madeline desperately seeking approval on this site.
Take a bit of time off to become used to less baggage Johnny-Jeannie.
Just another example of lefty double standards.
Another I've been noticing recently is whites vote who vote for Hillary are racist. Of course, the 95% of blacks voting for a black man aren't voting racially at all, no sir, not at all.
Posted by: RW at May 15, 2008 7:13 PMAw Jeannie. Poor 'ittle snookums feeling like all left out? Revel in your victimhood. Cry about your persecution hither and yon to all those who will listen. One of them may even care! Oh, wait, you've been doing that for weeks already.
As to JBNimble; As a respected, hard working member of the Press, she deserves to ask asinine, accusatory questions. It is after all what they do best. Woe betide the politician who dares to condescend to the perfect Press. After all, when PMSH decided to treat the Parliamentary Press in the manner which each deserved, he was vilified quickly enough.
Having said that, and as no fan of Obama, I must admit a certain twinge of respect for the man for the "Sweetie" thing if indeed she has been a gadfly. There's a certain satisfaction in those little verbal backhands. And when he is telling his grandkids how he ran for and lost the POTUS thing in 2008, I'm sure that the memory of this moment will bring a small wry smile.
Fuel economy is a thing that will be a huge driver of auto sales, but IMHO build quality is a very subjective thing. You'll spend $3-5000.00 doing all the preventative maintainence on your Honda or Toyota in the first 3 years you own it. And that won't count as "repair cost" in most peoples minds. Your total cost on a North American big three vehicle won't be any more, but people will look at it as repair. Hence the "build quality" myth. I've owned and driven both, and I won't own another import brand, no matter where it's built. The cost of ownership is far too high to justify.
Posted by: Sober2ndThought at May 15, 2008 7:22 PMWaaay off topic, but I gotta know. $3000 to $5000 in three years in preventative maintenace on new car? Are you replacing the oil and other fluids every other week?
At normal PM costs and intervals, you would have to be driving more than 250km every day of the year to even come close to those numbers. Not buying it.
Posted by: AtlanticJim at May 15, 2008 7:34 PMAtlanticJim. You'll be replacing the tranny fluid, the timing belt and myriad other pieces at least annually as preventative maintainance. $900.00 for a trip to the dealer isn't out of the ordinary! Go read the manual. Or even the "long term" one year tests in Car and Driver.
Posted by: Sober2ndThought at May 15, 2008 7:43 PMThe ONLY time I have paid more $100 or so on a 6k PM on a brand new car ( I have never owned anything but a new Japanese/Korean car for the last 20 years )are the 48k and 96k services. They run about $250 to $300.
Your numbers are out to lunch, to be kind.
Posted by: AtlanticJim at May 15, 2008 7:52 PMI may be off, but don't think it's all that far. Having said that, I may drive a lot more kms in a year than you, which would drive up my numbers. So, how 'bout we just say we've had different experiences and leave it at that? I've had lower costs with domestics in the last 20 years, and you haven't driven them, so any argument from either of us would be spurious.
And BTW, what got us to the little O/T sojurn was the comment from Grind a Grit about high quality "import" brands. That's a blanket statement which doesn't hold much water.
Now, back to the Sweetie issue!
Posted by: Sober2ndThought at May 15, 2008 8:04 PMCalling her Sweetie was an act of condescension by Obama.
Attacking her physical characteristics just because she asked a question is the act of a desparately twisted individual. Indeed, Hell of a point of view!
Posted by: Earl the Pearl at May 15, 2008 8:08 PMThat's funny. Piggybacking on her story about how when you have kiddies you call them affectionate names I have a good one.
Growing up in NL our elders had many terms of endearment which were used to describe the grandkids and youngins.
"Me ole Duckie, me ole trout, me luv and me old cock or cockie (referring to a rooster)" If you have ever been around kids you know how they have a habit of putting things in their mouth. Can you see where this is going?
A joke amongst us when we see a fellow Newfoundlander whom we haven't seen for a while would be to yell out to one another "What'ya got in yur mout dere me old cock!" You can see if the statement is spoken in a different connotation "What have you got in your mouth there...pause... me old cock?" it could be misconstrued to mean something else entirely.
I wonder if Danny williams ever wanted to ask Jane Taber that question when he looks at her lipstick scribbled across her mouth? eeewwww!
Reminds me of my Scottish uncle who use to say come and sit on me wee-knee.
Back to the post though, I agree that if this was said in such a condescending manner by a Republican or Conservative (or a whitey) the howls of indignation would be deafening. Sometimes I think life would be simpler in many respects, not having ANY standards to live up to and all, if I were a lefty, you can get away with a lot more crap than being in the center-right camp.
Well, as a woman, may I attest that Obama is a 'sweetie'?
Now I hope, like the reporter, he'll be sidelined and ignored.
Posted by: Jan at May 15, 2008 8:17 PMJohnny Ringo, do humanity a favour and jump under a bus. Willful cretins like you need to remove themselves from civilized society. We have no need for garbage like you.
Posted by: Ihateleftardslikeringo at May 15, 2008 9:26 PMHeh! ususally goes with a humorous and/or poignant post Johnny. Nuance is a word you may need to lookup.
Posted by: kelly at May 15, 2008 9:27 PMHas anyone been to the "other" website liked to this article?
What a freaken wierdo!
Posted by: FredA at May 15, 2008 9:36 PMI thought you folks were outraged by political correctness run amuck...
Anyway, his apology/explanation is here
Posted by: Red Tory at May 16, 2008 8:39 AMAnybody else notice that Obama is spending about 90% of his time either:
a)apologizing for something he has said, or
b)expressing outrage at something someone else has said?
This Obama child is not ready for the outside world, much less prime time news cycles.
Posted by: Yoop at May 16, 2008 9:08 AMPolitical correctness is the media game RT. Did you miss the point that if it was a candidate of conservative or republican leanings the media would have jumped on the candidate?
Posted by: redshere?ohmy! at May 16, 2008 9:46 AMWow!, leftoids really do eat their own. In the video, I heard a reporter ask a presidential hopeful a question and get blown off with a less than politically correct reply. Her followup on the report clearly has a taste of sarcasm in it, which was understandable. IMHO
The reaction and ad hominem attacks on the reporter from church of hell gang was to say the least childish and yet predictable.
