... was to attack Boris [Johnson] as an Islamophobe; swing Muslim voters unanimously behind Livingstone; deliver the election for him; emerge, thereby, as a leading force in British Islam, and thus send an uncompromising message to the main political parties – follow our line, or there’ll be electoral consequences. Its first shots were fired in January, when it was claimed that over fifty Islamic organisations in London had written to the Guardian endorsing Livingstone. (It later emerged that some of the letter’s signatories had written only in a “personal capacity”.) Its final salvo was the desperate advert, placed recently in the London Bengali paper “Janomot”, implying that Boris, as Mayor, would ban the Koran.
So who was behind this advert, and the campaign as a whole? It was produced by a group called the British Muslim Initiative (BMI). BMI’s website contains a section headed “About Us”. Readers who click on it will learn that the organisation was “formed by justice, peace and human rights campaigners”.

These campaigners presumably include Azzam Tamimi and Anas Tikriti, whose Guardian columns are prominently advertised on the site. Also advertised on the site is “Muslims 4 Ken”, whose leading lights, according to the Evening Standard, are…Anas Tikriti and Azzam Tamini.
Tikriti is a former President of the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) – which is, in effect, the British branch of the Muslim Brotherhood and which, therefore, has links to Hamas. It’s been claimed that Tamini issued communiques on behalf of Hamas during the 1990s. He’s certainly on record as supporting suicide bombings against civilians in Israel.
Sorry about the comments malfunction. I put up a couple of scheduled posts (which publish automatically at a later time) and on occasion, they refuse comments until someone comes in to rebuild the post.
Posted by: Kate at May 7, 2008 11:32 AMNothing here about the TVO "debate" between Steyn and the young Muslim law students? How come? It was entertaining. Steyn was very emotional. Maybe because he's tired of being called a racist. Or maybe because he is a racist, and infuriated at the unmitigated gall of the darkies who dare to question his motives...
I truly cannot tell. So much of Steyn's commentary is curtained by humour, mostly a Don Rickles schtick. He's funny, and then he's tiresome. Anyhow, none of that is my point. Here is my point: how come Shaidle (and she's a worst offender...) find it necessary to name call these young people? They comported themselves in a reasonable calm fashion, mostly refusing to take Steyn's bait.
Steyn speaks well and his presentation of statistics is impressive. He says there is a demographic wave that threatens to bury Saskatchewan. OK. So why name call?
Shaidle handles herself like a child. The young Muslim laws students stressed this: they have not brought a suit against Steyn. They have brought a complaint. Big difference with vastly different ramifications for both the pitchers and the catchers in the action.
So why call names? Why not conduct the thing in a calm manner? Why not free the M a u d l i n 1 while you're at it?
Posted by: a real believer in free speech at May 7, 2008 11:38 AMI have always hated Livingstone and everything he stands for. Terrorist apologist, anti-west, happy to sell his soul to get a vote, you name it he epitomizes the very worst aspects of liberalism.
Posted by: TJ at May 7, 2008 11:46 AMBecause name calling seems to be something they could understand. They don't seem to grasp such concepts as free speech, private property and the right to hold an opinion that might not mesh with their religion.

Maudlin, through another one his Sybil like personalities now revealed, is a racist: "and infuriated at the unmitigated gall of the darkies who dare to question his motives..."
"darkies" is how he addresses people of another skin colour than his own.
But more importantly, this completely deranged character has no idea what topic this thread is about.

I'd like to believe there's somewhat of a blowback happening in European politics. At least the recent victories for common sense in Italy, Switzerland, Denmark and now England. However, the dhimmification still marches on. Boris, like Bush and others, is full of it. The ridiculous cliches are all there, "Islam is a religion of peace" when it is no such thing. Islam means submission, why is that so difficult to grasp? As well as the completely ignorant and insulting description, "Islamophobia" meaning an irrational fear, when what could be more rational than knowing and understanding the meaning of their trilogy, Mohammad's life example, 1350 years of brutal horror and destruction, 270 million dead Kaffirs, 911, 7/7 and 10,000 terrorist attacks since that dark September? Rubbish.
All the other misleading, dangerous dhimmi propoganda and outright lies are apparent:
"A pre election address by Boris in the East London Advertiser."
ELECTION EXCLUSIVE by Mike Brooke
TORY London Mayor candidate Boris Johnson revealed he has Muslim ancestors when he arrived in East London on the campaign trail in the heart of Whitechapel's Bangladeshi community.
He spoke to community leaders at the Eshaat Ul Islam mosque in a bid to capture 'the Muslim vote,' as his Labour rival Ken Livingstone did three days later in Brick Lane.
"I won't score political points," Johnson told his madrassa religious school hosts.
"I am disappointed by reports of my opponents scurrilously spreading damaging lies about my attitude to the Muslim faith.
"My great-grandfather knew the Koran by heart and I am proud of my Islamic ancestry."
He attacked 'Islamophobia' and accused critics of blaming society's tensions blindly on Muslim extremists.
"Islam is a religion of peace and has made huge contributions to the development of our society," Johnson continued.
"I passionately believe that if more Londoners understood the deep relationship between Islam and Christianity, there would be less Islamophobia."
The Tory front-runner currently leading opinion polls arrived in the East End with a pledge to tackle 'hate' crime.
"It's a sad reality that crime remains a major problem in London," he told his hosts.
"Ordinary Muslims have become a target of 'hate' following atrocities such as 7/7.
---------
The Muslims are the main victims of Muslim terror, then? The same perpetual terror as commanded by Allah against all Kaffir in the Quran and exemplified by their prophet Mohammad ("I've been made victorius through terror") in the Sira and Hadith?
It doesn't get anymore absurd than that. Boris Dhimmi. I hope his actions prove otherwise.
Posted by: irwin daisy at May 7, 2008 12:32 PMIt was wondeful to see this victory. It shows there is no need to cater to extremists and their endless list of threatening organizations.

Interesting take on Ontario's newfound have not status. Too funny by half. Harper could stake a majority on this one. Enjoy.

Posted by: Glenn at May 7, 2008 1:50 PMCount me pessimistic about London.
The demographics in London, and England, will only get worse. Much worse - given both the nature of population influx and efflux for that city.
This could be the last hurrah, or last chance, for rational government in London. Next election might be a very different story unless Boris turns out to be a spectacularly good mayor.
I assume we will get a thread to discuss Mark Steyn's appearance on TVO.... so I will refrain from offering any comments on this.

Posted by: theredsuit at May 7, 2008 2:14 PMBritain's fascinaion with victim mentality amazes me. The basic assumption of any special interest group is that sticking an unqualified cliche label on your opponent will somehow scare the general public away from him or her.
Using Fnords would make more sense than that.
Posted by: Luca at May 7, 2008 2:42 PMHow about attacking Livingstone as an endophobe?
Posted by: Dinosaur at May 7, 2008 2:44 PMsalim mansur wafa sultan...and a handful of others are the only moderate people of the muslim faith or former adherents of the muslim faith i can recollect...
all the rest are to one degree or another openly or surreptitiously undermining our political will to stay as we are or develop as we will in our particular tradition....they are avowed enemies of all we hold precious in political philosophy...they are bound themselves by hateful strictures that brook no dissent and which demonize the infidel and the jew alike...
what's the problem here in understanding ?
just think of the smile on the face of a tiger wearing a suicide vest while filing a CHRC complaint.

Posted by: stephen.reeves at May 7, 2008 6:13 PMWe choose to focus everywhere, UK. Canada, USA, when the core problem is Iran.
It is difficult, nasty, in fact. Time to get real however to Cut off al Qaeda, Muqtada al Sadr and the rest.
Glenn Beck interviewed Benjamin Bitenyahu last night and it was a breath of fresh air and clarity.
Bitenyahu made it clear that Acmahdinejad IS the problem and the correct focus for a solution.
The Nuke program has to be stopped before it becomes the big stick that Iran*s mad mullahs use to get us all into a Shia line up.
