The Sound Of Settled Science

I miss the polar ice caps.

Well, I have this Firefox tab set on Accuweather for Vostok. It now says -90F but it really feels like -100F (Realfeel).

How many people know what -100F feels like?

Note (Environment Canada Weather page) that the 1st year sea-ice in the Arctic is pretty thick also. Two years ago we went up to the Arctic Ocean (June -- hoping to dip in the toes), and to see all the receding glaciers. Funny, the sea was as hard as ice. Funny, we found some advancing glaciers in College Fjord.

Just googled 'southern hemisphere sea ice'

First 30 finds - you guessed it. Not one major media piece to be found.

Remember awhile back when the ice was temporarily sparse in the Arctic ? Wall to wall fear-mongering, three part Mansbridge series, blah blah.

Any way these guys could be taken to task for false advertizing ??

The already notorious cover takes the iconic photograph of U.S. Marines planting the American flag on Iwo Jima and substitutes a tree for the flag. Why Time's editors did this explains much about contemporary liberalism...

Years from now, Time's cover will be regarded as another silly media-induced fear. But, as with Time's 1974 article warning its readers about "another ice age" and its many articles on the threat of heterosexual AIDS in America, Time will just let public amnesia deal with credibility problems. Until then, however, one fact remains: Today, conservatives fight evil and liberals fight carbon emissions.

GLOBAL WARMING IS A BIG FAT LIE AND AL GORE IS A BIG FAT GREEN LIAR

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at May 7, 2008 12:38 PM

So far, Chaiten has emitted only a few thousand tons of sulfur dioxide, "which is very small," said Simon Carn, a University of Maryland-Baltimore volcanologist who uses satellites to measure volcanic gases.
Chilean Volcano Spews Ash.........and global cooling?
"In general, a volcano must spew at least 1 million tons of sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere to have a global effect on climate, said Alan Robock, a Rutgers University professor who co-authored a book on the subject.

After eruptions of unusual size, sulfur dioxide, converted into sulfuric acid, can form a thin white cloud in the atmosphere that reflects sunlight away from Earth."

The comment on the Chaiten volcano is interesting in that it will become a climate forcing, to the cool side, depending on how high it's ash cloud goes and how "sulphuric" it is. It will also become a potential excuse by the pro-AGW side as to why global climate is not responding to human forcing of late. It's unfortunate we may get this complication at what appears to be a very interesting time, climate-wise.

I challenge any lefty to show me a climate model that predicted this upswing in ice for this year.

If they got this year wrong why trust them in 100 yrs?

Thats like going to environment Canada for a 100 day weather forecast,

Dinosaur:

Check the Environment Canada weather page for models and analysis. It's really an eye-opener. Note the predictive skill for deterministic forecasts.

Then compare Al-Gore-rhythms.

Even the number of mindless chanters has significantly diminished.

Welcome to the correct side of the argument, Hugger Greg...but why post a discussion you are apparently having with yourself?

The NASA bunch is under investigation for Government Credit Card Fraud (personal use) The individual IRS forensic audits can't be that far in the future.

And with the PDO gone to cooling, the AMO about to flip to cooling, the SUN going into a Dalton minimum or worse, and a growing volcanic eruption right at the start of the SH winter...... there's going to be a LOT more ice.

Otter: Looks like you've pretty well hit the "Full Monty". Sir Richard Branson on the other hand still maintains that the world "on fire".

How clever Eeyore. Did your little sister help you out? I know you are, but what am I?

huggrifter the lieing bastard, what you are is dog $hit.

Posted by: otter at May 8, 2008 5:49 PM

The proper name for the coming cooler period is The Gore Minimum. While the Chaiten contribution to cooling may be minimal there are approximately 60 world wide volcanic events every years; the cumulative effect of which should be significant.

Now all AL GORE can do to stop thid whole GLOBAL WARMING FRUAD is to KEEP HIS FAT LYING PIEHOLE CLOSED AND CUTTING OFF ALL THAT HOT AIR SQUAWK SQUAWK
