There's an interesting article by Daniel Pipes in the National Post's series on Israel's 60th anniversary that includes this observation:
The enemies of Israel divide into two main camps: the left and the Muslims, with the far right a minor third element. The left includes a rabid edge (International ANSWER, Noam Chomsky) and a more polite centre (United Nations General Assembly, Canada's Liberal party, the mainstream media, mainline churches, school textbooks).I'm sure many Liberals would angrily dispute being labeled an enemy of Israel, but I think the observation is spot on.
The rest of his article is full of interesting insights, as well.
Posted by Jaeger at May 6, 2008 6:34 PMIt is rare to see a liberal speak up and state that Israel has a right to defend herself, or even exist.
Posted by: Honey Pot at May 6, 2008 7:09 PMIsrael has a right to defend herself and should be helped by the West.
There are also many Jews in the Liberal party.
I am a Liberal.
Posted by: Liberal at May 6, 2008 7:18 PMHow can you mention Daniel Pipes without mentioning this?
"At Last I Changed My Mind Because There's Proof Obama Was a Muslim and He Has It"
I'm more disturbed that he lied, than I am about his being a Muslim while very young. And Pipes has proven it to my satisfaction. He was a Muslim and he did lie.
Now I'll have to tell my mother who I've adamantly said was being silly for saying Barack Hussein Obama (first time I've used his full name like this) was a Muslim.
So now I feel foolish about not only believing, but defending his lies.
So now, what does this mean? Do all fundamentalist Muslims have a religious duty to kill him now as an apostate? Does this complicate U.S. international relations by having a Muslim apostate as President should he be elected?
Arguably worse, does this explain his radicalism, his attraction to Jeremiah Wright, and is there more here than meets the eye? Is it pure coincidence Obama's pastor, of all people, largely hates the U.S., loves Louis Farakhan, Nation of Islam founder, and had pro-Islamic terrorist messages in the church newsletter? A church so radical even Oprah left?
Why does Obama seem so eager to withdraw from Iraq, victory be damned, and talk to Iran?
You have to read this article from Power Line:
Kurtz inevitably considers the question of Obama's decision to remain in Wright's church. He writes: "Nearly every sermon Wright preaches, as well as his now-infamous bulletins and church magazines, is filled with his radicalism, and it's therefore impossible not to conclude that Obama was broadly attracted to Wright's politics."Significantly, Wright's radicalism sparked a mass exodus from the church on several occasions. By 1975, nearly all of the members who had invited Wright to become their pastor in 1972 had defected. In 1983, "a group of particularly active and prominent members uncomfortable with Wright left Trinity. . .for a local Pentacostal Apostolic church." Wright's radicalism also caused his relations with the United Church of Christ to be rocky at times.
These facts make Obama's decision to remain in Wright's flock all the more telling.
Obama has a lot of explaining to do. Without lies, preferably.
Posted by: Christoph at May 6, 2008 7:42 PMChristoph....and your post has what to do with Israel?
Anywho...IMHO,one of the prime reasons that leftards, turds in general, commies, muzzies, etc hate Israel so badly is because they just cannot stand success,ESPECIALLY if you achieve it without their so-called "help".
Liberal, hmmmmmm, so how do you feel about your party wanting to pull our troops out of the ME, abandoning Israel in her hour of need? I wouldn't exactly call that a show of support from the liberal party. Do you actually believe that islam wants peace with Israel, or any civilized nation that is non-mulsim?

There WERE many jews. However, more and more are leaving and turning Conservative. They can smell the Islamic future of Canada's Liberal party. That's how it's gone everywhere else in the world, and that's how it will go in Canada. It's already happening (the "Bob Rae's jewish wife" campaign, for example).
I expect there will be a few token jews left in the Liberal Party, and the NDP, but that's all there will be in a generation, or sooner.
Libs know there will definitely be more muslims than jews in Canada, and it all about votes and winning NOW, not principle or rational future planning.
Posted by: lori at May 6, 2008 9:53 PMI think you are going to see Canadians pay much more attention to the political parties than they have in the past. There is more at stake, such as national security, and idenity, something we never had to worry too much about before. Canadians are a kind, tolerant and generous people, but they don't too kindly to people from other countries, mistaking that for stupidity.
Posted by: Honey Pot at May 6, 2008 10:13 PMDaniel Pipes is a formidable and courageous man. That swift kick to the Liberal Party's nards was well placed for maximum groan.
Posted by: Hannibal Lectern at May 6, 2008 10:48 PMI used to work with a Lib party girl. While I'm not sure she was a enemy of Israel she sure wasn't a friend.
Posted by: soup at May 6, 2008 11:56 PM“Israel is the child with glasses trying to succeed at school while living in a gang-infested part of town.”
One of the interesting things about History is how current views can be distorted by simply omitting a few facts.
If a person were to acknowledge the reality that the Jewish people had been seeking creation of an independent Jewish state since at least the First World War, then the basis for today’s realities become more clear.
The truth is because Jewish people pushed for this to happen and to be granted statehood in their old religious homeland. The result was a continuance of conflict in a geographic location, which had been host to centuries of Religious and cultural based friction and conflict.
Back to the excerpt taken from the article about the “gang infested part of town”. There had been little significant change in the region regarding religions sentiments and social realities. This article is another version of revisionist history, which attempts to portray the Jewish state as a victim. Well, if it is, it’s a victim by virtue of decisions made by other countries to give them what they wanted.
So the sentiment here is that the rest of western society is to involve itself in these age-old conflicts, presumably indefinitely. Given the current state of affairs in the world, and comparing it to actual history, one has to wonder if that logic could use some serious reconsideration. If you want a little background info, search Haganah.
It's too bad that people as a whole don't understand how they are manipulated. Bogeymen are good business and make work projects for politicians and religious fundamentalists.

Bitenyahu made it clear that Acmahdinejad IS the problem and the correct focus for a solution.
