"Unlike its other stops in several countries, the torch cruised problem-free in the communist capital of Pyongyang."San Franciscans could learn a few things from Kim Jong-il. After all, they share the same politics!

The leg in Vietnam today was even more strange.
There were no Tibetan or pro-democracy demonstrations allowed. Only anti-China demonstrations from actual Vietnamese (red flags) were allowed and even those were quite limited and some people arrested.
bad link.

Is it possible to imagine that the 2010 Olympics came down to two cities, Vancouver and Pyongyang? Too bad for "Dear Leader". It would have been a wonderful showcase for the most wonderful country in the world.
Posted by: Jack at April 29, 2008 1:46 PMThat's PyeongChang, South Korea that bid and narrowly lost to Vancouver. They narrowly lost the 2014 bid to Russia. That's 2 very painful losses. They will big again in 2018 and I hope they get it.

Posted by: iowavette at April 29, 2008 2:35 PMIsn't it wonderful how nice and orderly North Korea is? Not like messy, stupid Europe or the USA. I bet the torch procession makes very orderly progress through China too.
Amazing what you can do with a dictatorship, isn't it? Just kill a couple million people every ten years or so, and the survivors just fall right into line.
In other news, children are being sold into slavery "like cabbages" in Guangdong province. No doubt they will be too busy working to protest the torch procession, eh?
