As Ed Minchau points out, given the source and context of this quote it is abundantly clear Dowd is accusing Obama of being a member of the international communist conspiracy. I'm not so sure. Let's wait to hear what Obama's stance is on flouridation of the water supply.

"Ewwww" is the appropriate response to Dowd's dirty insinuation. Perhaps she has a fixation?

Quite apart from purely partisan observations, the current situation for the Democrats is fascinating.

It is a good example of that old maxim of "don't wish too hard, you might get what you wished for." The Democrats don't have boring old white guys for candidates, they've got a (putative) African-American and a woman: two ideal demographics to show how progressive their party is. Unfortunately, it is tearing the party apart: how do you respect the female vote without slighting the African-American one? And vice-versa of course. Ouch!

All the while, the clock is ticking and the Democrats are running out of time to develop a consolidated campaign against their real political opponent: John McCain.
