Happiness Is A Warm Winchester

James Joyner;

Barack Obama said of people in small town American that, “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or antitrade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” Brooks observes, correctly I think, that we really don’t know what Obama meant by that but that many people undoubtedly hold the view that gun owners are poor, ignorant hicks.

By "many", he means people who don't actually own guns.
It turns out they have the same level of formal education as nongun owners, on average. Furthermore, they earn 32% more per year than nonowners. Americans with guns are neither a small nor downtrodden group.

The study found that we're better looking, too.

"Americans with guns are neither a small nor downtrodden group."

But he wants them to be.

Obama sounds just like Chretien henchman Peter Donolo. If you're not an urban-liberal-metrosexual, you're a know-nothing hick...

==========

"I think in a lot of smaller communities, people's exposure to this is through the media, they see a lot of sensationalized stories -- the debate over Shariah law, public funding for religious schools, whether women should be wearing veils to vote," Peter Donolo, a partner with the polling firm the Strategic Counsel, told CTV.ca.

"So they'll always see these flashpoint issues whereas the reality of living in a large urban area where there might be large numbers of visible minorities is just a lot more mundane."

Of course he wants them to be; he can't turn America into his Socialist Utopia if half the population is armed and pissed at him.

Posted by: Frozen Tex at April 21, 2008 4:43 PM

does that 34% include;
ex-armed forces personnel
Beverly Hills Gun Club members
security types (police, private secur, etc)
farmers
hunters
aboriginals
FBI
CIA
Homeland Security
border agents
coast guard
national guard

sounds like a LATTEbama

Posted by: BJ at April 21, 2008 4:56 PM

BJ - 87% of stats can mean whatever 43% of the population want them to mean, and 65% of stats are made up on the spot, 33% of the time.

Posted by: Frozen Tex at April 21, 2008 5:01 PM

i'm well educated(sure you are) but i'm repelled by guns long or short..sold them for profit illegally i might add but that was years ago and in another country and besides the wench is dead.

but i uphold maintain the right of a free born man to obtain and own and use any device man has invented for a utilitarian purpose...how could one possibly think other.

Posted by: john begley at April 21, 2008 5:07 PM

Barack Obama he asks gun owners to trust him then he shows his outright two faced behavior of all liberal left-wing demacrooks by not trusting small town america which shows he is a stupid igorant flatlander

"Furthermore, they earn 32% more per year than nonowners."

3 simple words to explain this: Stick em up.

Posted by: Woodporter at April 21, 2008 5:20 PM

best part of the article....

Nor are they “bitter.” In 2006, 36% of gun owners said they were “very happy,” while 9% were “not too happy.” Meanwhile, only 30% of people without guns were very happy, and 16% were not too happy

Barack Obama is a poster boy for the new world order. He is the product of a failed relationship, he is of mixed race and raised by relatives. He was a prominent communist when young. His mother was Jewish and met a charming black African socialist at college and got it on. Naturally he split after only months and the spoiled brat daughter didn't want to raise the kid either. So off to the relatives. When Obama matures he discovers his true nature: radical. Much as I don't like Hillary it would be most scary if this guy becomes President one day.

Brave men with guns have always been the saviors and liberators of the wimp and/or the repressed classes and always will be.

The pathological fear of firearms by the left guarantees that in the end, the right will always prevail.

I think that calls for a bwahahahah.

Haha...great closing line Kate. Reminded me to dig out something I keep posted on my cubicle wall, but never got unpacked after a cubicle move. I'll post it here for my fellow engineers who read your site.

Why I Am An Engineer

I am an Engineer because when I was young I was told to look around and see who had the kind of life I wanted to have. Then go do the same work

What I found was that engineers are generally much better looking than average. They test out smarter and have more friends.

I heard about some guys from a university who studied engineers in a bar. They found that engineers get approached and generally get lucky about 43 times as often as most folks.

Engineers shoot more ducks, catch more fish and get bigger deer. They can work their VCR and set the clock on the microwave. Their kids are brighter, their lawns are greener and their cars run better. Their daughters are prettier and their sons are better athletes. Their spouses are sweeter, and their mothers-in -law hardly visit at all.

Engineers do things like save lives and generally make a better world.

Anyway, I looked around and it seemed to me that engineers were clearly superior folk and I would be proud to be one. That is why I am an engineer.

That and all the good jobs were taken.

Does anyone else think that Obama's campaign logo (that sun/red-and-white stripes in a roundel on a blue field thingie) looks like the flag of one of those obscure Central Asian "-stan" countries?

I think we should be told.

I wonder if Obama yerns to be the first American Nicolae Ceauşescu.

Obama dona lika dem cunty folk ya know.

Beginning in 1972, Ceauşescu instituted a program of systematisation. Promoted as a way to build a "multilaterally developed socialist society", the program of demolition, resettlement, and construction began in the countryside, but culminated with an attempt to reshape the country's capital completely. Over one fifth of central Bucharest, including churches and historic buildings, was demolished in the 1980s,

Then later, during the drive home rush hour, John Moore mentioned SDA nad Kate by name in the context of a) a place that he habituates from time to time and b) a blog being unjustly harassed by Richard Warman's lawsuit.

Posted by: tom at April 21, 2008 7:10 PM

Obama and his wife are people that Tom Wolfe called "masters of the universe" in Bonfire of the Vanities.

Peggy Noonan recently said that Obama's religion-and-guns comment was something that any elitist might have said at any gathering of elitists in America.

She explained that in these elitist circles this would not have been regarded as a put-down, but in fact a conciliatory and inclusive comment designed to demonstrate sympathy about those unwashed, lower classes to other elitists.

It's very hard for most Americans to understand the strange and enigmatic culture of elitism in North America.

We've watched John Kerry brag about his ability to mingle with French society and order a soufflee in an expensive Parisian restaurant without any rise in cardiac activity due to his flawless command of the language and his complete assimilation of sensibilities.

Obama's wife is an elitist. She complains and whines about how difficult it is to make it on a half a million dollars a year. The ballet lessons, the Montessori schools, the La Crosse teams ... how does one manage on a half million dollars a year? Doesn't the attendance at elite schools buy one anything in this country?

Peggy Noonan went on to answer the question of how black people could be put in the category of elitists. She explained that there are a lot of people who have come from more modest circumstances and quickly adopt the mannerisms and cultural attitudes of the rich and famous.

I think we may get a clue into the psychology of these well-to-do and socially prominent individuals in the TV series 'Gossip Girls'. One simply progresses from one upperclass school to another, hanging out with outher upperclass individuals, moving tidily into an uncle's law firm or a father's business or a fraternity brother's project or a sorority sister's decorating empire, and then one is simply very selective about where one travels in fly-over country.

Hmmm.... I see a conundrum

A gun is a tool

Obama is a tool

Leftards are tools

I have a bunch of guns in my (secure, locked, etc) gun cabinet... does that mean I'm holding leftards prisoner? Should I release them and remove their fetters (i.e. trigger lock) and set them free? Can you conceal-carry a leftard?

The mind boggles at the possibilities... I guess I'll just go watch one of the Dirty Harry movies.........

Ahh.... there we go, my world makes sense now...

You're in the wrong place, little guy - SDA is frequented by people with scientific curiosity who don't let dogma stop their intellectual pursuits. You may wish to go over to rabble.ca where dogma of all sorts (most of it quite amusing, if it was kept in the realm of fiction) is worshipped as undisputed fact that must be thrust on the ignorant masses. Thank God, most people are too smart to fall for that nonsense

"A quick scan of this thread proves there's no such thing as evolution."

What would be zolik's idea of an "evolved society"? Has it ever existed -> ex. the anarchist areas of Spain during the Civil War, Nestor Makhno's anarcho-socialism in 1918-21 Ukraine

BTW, Makhno committed genocide against Mennonites and had his own share of pogroms during those years of chaos.

Posted by: jwkozak91 at April 21, 2008 11:05 PM

"Nestor Makhno's anarcho-socialism in 1918-21 Ukraine" continued: -> or will it be sometime in the future?

Your ball, zolik - oh, and happy birthday tomorrow "ulianov"; this query is a present to you as well.

Posted by: jwkozak91 at April 21, 2008 11:13 PM

In light of zolik's vacuous attempt to appear glib, I'll mention something that did not appear in my earlier post.

In Obama's religion-and-guns miscalculation, I presume the wrongful mischaracterization of religion to be an echo of Marxist sentiment.

'Religion is the opiate of the people,' Marx instructs us. And it may be surprising to some that Marx actually was a sort of oddly religious man himself. Just as Obama is oddly religious in his black separatist, anti-white church.

It appears that Obama characterizing religion as a resource that appeals to people without answers or direction would roughly accomodate Marx's idea that religion offers an intoxication when one is oppressed by the capitalist elite.

Although I doubt that Obama comprehends the implications of his remark, it seems as if some kind of distant resonance puts him in touch with Marxist roots that certainly would be in conformity with his association with members of the radical Weathermen Underground section of Students for a Democratic Society.

In the last debate I saw him in, he called for raising the capital gains tax in the face of his admission that it wasn't a particularly good idea for the economy. But only for the value of creating social equality. Imagine that. Depriving the economy of stimulus and taking away profits from families and pension funds so that he can engineer some social scheme that provides no benefit, but simply punishes capital.

It seems to me that Obama's Marxist stripes are just beneath the surface.

And yet, were I to make some comment about Mr. Obama and, oh... watermelon ferinstance, I'd be pounced on like a mouse at a cat convention. Or like Kate, pointing out that poor people are poor mostly because they do stupid things with their money, woa baby!

Pointing out to Leftists that they are everything they accuse Conservatives of is always exciting. They don't take reality well.

Kolik seems like the kind of "progressive" who progresses himself over a cliff while yelling insults over his shoulder at the people wise enough to recognize that all "change" is not healthy.

Progressive is a gross misnomer anyway as the people who adopt it invariably want to regress everyone back to the systems of marxist socialism/communism that have failed everywhere they've been tried with concomitant genocidal loss of life and liberty.
