Before this is over you will probably be known as the Web Princess of Canada. Good luck. (O:}

What's the topic, Glinda...er, I mean, Kate?

Posted by: kdl at April 17, 2008 9:04 PMGood show Kate. Thanks to Mike & Al.
Posted by: Dana at April 17, 2008 9:51 PMGood job, Kate.
Nice going Mike and Al !
Good point made Kate with your response , Harper shouldn't fall into Mulrooney's trap of trying to please his enemies, and losing his core voters.
Posted by: richfisher at April 17, 2008 10:30 PMKate McMillan: shame on you! Your assertion that you don't "...care what people think..." is just such bulls--t. I would like to hear you interviewed by someone other than a soft ball chucking fan. You care, girl, plenty.
Posted by: John Daly at April 17, 2008 10:38 PMMike and Al about drove me nuts. They just wouldn't shut-up. My first chance to hear "The Kate" and they hardly let you get a word in.
Grr...
Well done Kate, and kudos to Al and Mike for their internet effort.
It is refreshing to hear true conservative ideas expressed in Canada.
I admit disappointment to hear Kate say she is not interested in further persuing media.
Her indescribable ability to cut to the core of an issue with such clarity of thought and economy of words, makes one wonder how such talent can ever be denied mainstream media access.
Hopefully that issue will overtake her as the demand grows for more of her provocative conservative insights.
I tend to agree with Hector Cowpie, I was wanting for more of Kate and just a tad less of the two interviewers, but hey, they are learning.
Good hour, well spent!
Posted by: Joe Molnar at April 17, 2008 10:52 PM...well done Kate.
Posted by: tomax7 at April 17, 2008 11:33 PMYou're a Conservative Treasure, Kate. You home in on the core of an issue quickly and get to the point concisely.
I agree with other commenters, a little too much from Al & Mike, not enough from you.
Be sure to let us know about your next 'event'.
Posted by: Jim R at April 17, 2008 11:57 PMHeh. I just don't know what people expect out of these interviews. It wouldn't be interesting to just have a guest on, give them the floor, and let them pontificate. Something tells me Kate wouldn't have been up for that. She doesn't like giving interviews in the first place :)
Posted by: Mike Brock at April 18, 2008 12:37 AMGreat show gang, on a par with the O'Reilly Factor.
Posted by: Free Thinker at April 18, 2008 12:54 AMYeah, you should be honoured or something. I turned down CBC TV (again) yesterday.
Posted by: Kate at April 18, 2008 12:54 AMKate...please reconsider the CBC interview...I would love to hear you respond to their airy fairy stuff.You could challenge them on so many fronts...it would be a hoot!
Posted by: bluetech at April 18, 2008 1:21 AMNot on TV you don't.
Posted by: Kate at April 18, 2008 1:25 AMHector Cowpie: " ... Mike and Al about drove me nuts. They just wouldn't shut-up."
I agree.
Posted by: ural at April 18, 2008 1:30 AMWhy does everyone believe their needs have to be met by government, or by a bureaucracy....?
Here, here. Listen up all you conservative votin', freeloading farmers out there in vacuum land.
Posted by: manny at April 18, 2008 3:37 AMOne of those guys says "uh" about 20 times a minute.
Why is Canadian talk radio so awful? And why isn't Rush Limbaugh available in Canada?
Posted by: Larry Lloyd at April 18, 2008 4:58 AMGood one Kate.
As far as listening to 'right-wing' radio goes, here in Kingston I get to listen to Lowell Green, Glen Beck, Rush, O'Reilly and Denis Miller using celestial antenna, some of these are available using podcast.
I stopped listening to most Canadian radio years ago, and watch no Canadian TV what so ever as it just sucks. Killed by group think and Can-Con.
'Great to hear you on the Al and Mike Show, Kate! Just a common sense voice, which is at a premium these days...
Kate's Blog is so great because:
* Kate knows what she's doing;
* she's tapped a motherlode in the Canadian psyche;
* she's got a unique take on things;
* she's got a good sense of humour;
* she keeps putting new stuff on her blog every few hours;
* she doesn't time commenters out;
* she's made it extremely easy--even for IT Dummies--to post a comment (as long as you don't use certain words in your post!);
* she first warns offensive posters that if they keep up their abusive comments she'll kick them off SDA and then she follows through if they disregard her "advice")
* she likes dogs
This is not an exhaustive list.
Thanks, Kate, for your great and generous hospitality--and for helping me maintain my sanity in increasingly Banana-Republic Canada. Your offering an alternative to the views of the MSM Flying Monkeys is a great antidote to otherwise-Canadian apathy.
Posted by: batb at April 18, 2008 8:24 AMI thought the show went very well. Loved the Kinsella jab at the end.
Why is Canadian talk radio so awful?
You folks need to keep in mind that the A&M show is essentially 2 guys broadcasting over the net from a makeshift studio (broom closet?) with little or no budget. If you want better you can a) open your wallet and sponsor the show so they can get better equipment and polish their new craft, b) send them a note with some constructive criticism instead of slagging them on a blog, or, c) build your own friggin studio, line up your own guests and broadcast your own bloody show.
And why isn't Rush Limbaugh available in Canada?
He is. You just need to know where to find him: http://www.wabcradio.com/programschedule.asp
Posted by: Richard Evans at April 18, 2008 10:46 AMGood job Kate. Enjoyed the programme.
Not bad for random off the cuff however a few things could be improved..
Do you think, Al and Mike, that a little pre-interview brainstorming about questions and topics to touch upon would be a good idea?
Topics like; Chances the Liberals will have a leadership convention, thank Dion for services rendered, and put Bob Rae in the driver*s seat?
Questions like; Do you think it*s odd that we allow the Liberals to use up house of commons time and resources to re-hash 15 year old KarlHeinze possible scandals?
A fair list of questions in hand before an interview may help things hop along smartly, but not at a breakneck pace like Stromagopolous or Geom Go-messy though, please. = TG

I have read some of the commentary with interest as we always appreciate feedback. I think the listeners need to understand that this is a hobby. Mike and I both work long hours and we have committed to trying to do a show once a week without any outside assistance or payment of any kind. We are trying to create a vehicle for conservatives to discuss issues and create a dialogue that is hopefully entertaining at the same time. I respect the fact that a number of people tuned in to hear from Kate, but with over 10,000 unique listeners a week, some also tune in to hear our opinions...It is after all the Al & Mike Show. That said, we continue to try and improve each week and feedback from our listeners is an important part of the process. I just ask you to keep your criticism constructive and bear in mind the reality in which Mike and I operate. Thanks for listening...
Posted by: Al MacDermid at April 18, 2008 1:36 PM"SDA" - IATA code for Baghdad Int'l Airport????
Finally had time to listen to the Al & Mike Show this Friday morning. Great Show! What a pleasure these guys are. What a change to be able to listen to conservative thinkers and writers in a Canadian setting. Kate was great. Getting to listen to her finally, she sounds so easygoing and feminine and yet has that powerful lioness nature to cut through the BS or forced pablum quickly. As a note to Kate. You made a funny groaner about Wikipedia so I searched for "SDA" on Wikipedia (zip) and this is partly what it returned.
SDA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SDA is a three letter acronym that can refer to:
The Seventh-day Adventist Church,
Speed Demos Archive, a website collecting demo recordings for various computer games.
The Southern Domestic Airspace region of Canadian airspace.
Students for Democratic Action, otherwise known as Laredo SDA, an extreme leftist organization in Laredo, TX.
SDA is the IATA code for Baghdad International Airport, located in Baghdad, Iraq
Self-Destruction Angel, an infamous series of bedtime stories developed by Sakamoto Ichiro for his daughters
Posted by: John at April 18, 2008 3:40 PMKate-I listened to the interview. It was not so great, eh? The fawning and stuttering questioning was not impressive. That's ok, I guess. Al and Mike are not professionals...
But really nothing on free speech, nothing on the law suits, nothing really on specific political situations...in other words nothing on the stuff folks would like to hear about...that's not a good interview.
You said so little of consequence I can't quite understand some of the adulation you're receiving here. People love you Kate. I'm jealous. Plus you have received a high school level reading certification..
The notion that you don't care what people think of you is just nothing more complicated than a lie though Kate.
If you were strapped to a lie detector and asked this question: "do you care what others think about you..." and you answered "no..." it would be bells and whistles time. With that one little white misrepresentation you wrecked your credibility.
And of course you would not allow yourself to be interviewed on CBC. They would not be lobbing softballs at you. They are professionals and have the power to edit. It's a very weird deal, Kate. I have not heard you articulate anything that I don't hear articulated down at the 7-11 over coffee every day.
Something is in the water here. And I won't make an avocation out of being an asshole here. I will be a drop in and drop out asshole. I've found this: a few of your compatriots come to my blog, a blog that for better or worse is based on my writing, and not a link-fest for Ain't It An Awful World Goin' Ta Hell In A Handcart, and they comment and then I respond and there may have even been a thoughtful moment or two.
There are many areas of agreement between the so-called left and the so-called right. One example? Rights tribunals. I have been before one of those. Didn't like it at all.
But you are wrong on Afghanistan, wrong on Iraq, wrong on immigration and that too much wrong...
Posted by: John Daly at April 18, 2008 7:10 PM"nothing on the law suits"
Did it occur to you, that perhaps Kate did not want to talk about that for legal reasons, and we were simply respecting that? :)
Posted by: Mike Brock at April 18, 2008 7:30 PMWho can get enough talk radio anyway?
I liked the long format, and how much Kate hated being put on the spot.
I found the story of the old-ass computer being salvaged in 1998 as facinating as the fact this blog was produced for the longest time with a slow-ass internet connection(perhaps still is?)...
Posted by: Knight of Good Mr. Iron Man at April 18, 2008 9:14 PMNice way to talk Iron Man. You da' man.

Posted by: Jim R at April 18, 2008 10:42 PMYou misunderstood, John. I've done two fairly lengthy CBC interviews in the past month. For radio and for news. But I don't do TV, for reasons of privacy.

Posted by: Richard Evans at April 19, 2008 1:42 AMBravo for the show - not just Al & Mike, but you too Kate!!!
I now have sky-high admiration for you for going Linux - I wish I could, but too many programs and of course let's be honest here games depend on Windows XP. I hear the real, genuine super geeks go Linux and what you did going so far back to make a mid-1980s computer do millenial work is just amazing. Hat-tip to you :-).
Oh and in other news, you're one of the few blogs whose headlines are in my personalized Google homepage for over a year now...
