Seven ancient synagogues in the Iranian capital, Tehran, have been destroyed by local authorities.Posted by Kate at April 16, 2008 6:56 PMThe synagogues were in the Oudlajan suburb of Tehran, where many Iranian Jews used to live. "These buildings, which were part of our cultural, artistic and architectural heritage were burnt to the ground," said Ahmad Mohit Tabatabaii, the director of the International Council of Museums’ (ICOM) office in Tehran.
"With the excuse of renovating this ancient quarter, they are erasing a part of our history," said Tabatabaii.
Any and ALL history which predates islam, in the minds of muslims, does not deserve to exist. And if they can't erase it, they re-write it.

Posted by: johnnyonline at April 16, 2008 7:55 PMBut Iran loves its Jews
When they waft by --- in the air --- evaporated.
With the (unnecessary mind you) hog cull currently underway, why don’t we take the extra carcases that the food banks can't handle and scatter them around Tehran and the Iranian country side. Oh the humanity…pork everywhere, the islamic version of the Egyptian plagues!
Posted by: Mike T at April 16, 2008 8:21 PMJust blow the crap out of the al-Aqsa mosque. That'll learn 'em.
Posted by: Brian M. at April 16, 2008 8:34 PMNo need for that "surgical precision" stuff now.
Posted by: richfisher at April 16, 2008 9:13 PMThe former existence of these synagogues illustrates that Jews have always maintained a presence in the Middle East, especially of course in Israel. And that, contrary to the lies of Israel haters, the Jews are tied to the land and not relative newcomers.

/channeling the fanatics running the place and those outside of Iran who slavishly carry their water to accomplish this.

Isn't the al aqsa mosque about due for some "renovating"?
1.) All the more reason why the children of Edmonton's Ghermezian Brothers are thanking their fathers for getting the hell out of Tehran when they did.
2.) Every day, the Ayatollahs' Iran is starting to resemble the pre-war Third Reich (Kristallnacht - November 9, 1938, anyone)?

I dont think any of them support the Iranian government. Theres a difference between defending an Iranian lady pulling a line out of some Iranian mythical tale, and defending a state that is quite far off its rocker.
I m sure by your reasoning all Iranians are intrinsically related to the Iranian government. Forget that the vast majority of them left because of the revolution, largely to avoid its ramifications. But hey, so what if they re fleeing from this government. They Iranian and therefore guilty by association, however tenuous that is.
But these are fine degrees of separation that may not be discernible to crude stereotypers.
Get a brain.
Posted by: lootie at April 17, 2008 8:24 AMTo be fair, most of Iran's jews have left for Israel, so the buildings probably weren't being used. . .
