name it after Conn Smythe , he was a civil engineer and a great hockey builder.

Providing symmetry by erecting a building next door similar in design to one of these could do wonders to stimulate tourists, er, tourism.

If you've ever seen the Telus World of Science building, (formerly the Edmonton Space and Science Centre) you'll concure that the (over-reated) architect, Douglas Cardinal, was 'inspired' by nothing more than a Philips Air Ecologizer that everyone at the time couldn't seem to live without.

Now these useless plastic air filters grace the 'make me an offer' tables at countless garage sales and flee markets nation wide.

Drained brain: Apparently you haven't visited beautiful downtown Mundare, Alberta:

You're right Eskimo. I never sausage a sight.

Posted by: Drained Brain at April 10, 2008 2:04 PM

Damn....that is one butt-ugly building.

Posted by: Bruce at April 10, 2008 2:09 PM

I always think the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre (skydome) make a lovely couple, 'specially when she/it has her dome open on those steamy summer nights.
Excuse me, i have to go look for a life.

Maybe they could build a copy of this:

next to it.

That's the winner of the URL I linked to above, Mark L, but you'll find other arresting erections there:

Incidentally, this thread is verging dangerously close to hate-speech-of-architects and I'm nervously looking over my shoulder.

Call it the Diefendome

Gnome?
Rome?
Home?
Loam
Tome?

Am I close?

Posted by: Richard Ball at April 10, 2008 3:37 PM

What's the dome for?

potatoes?

the riders?

the homeless?

Looks vaguely like a cervical cap.

But when exited, turns into a full blown mosque.

Posted by: John V at April 10, 2008 4:13 PM

Kabatoff at least will be happy it isn't shaped like an Obelisk.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

It is quite appropriate to have a cervical cap-like stadium fit snuggly into a REGINA.

With a nick like "Lickmuffin", I'm not sure I should comment on this one.

Posted by: Lickmuffin at April 10, 2008 4:40 PM

as the local radio stations say, "the city that rhymes with fun"

Drained Brain:
Although you never sausage a sight, I bet you have read a few billboards as you approached Pedro's "South of the Border" amusement park in South Carolina. No?

The Con Dome? I just have to ask "What were you thinking" to those involved in this gem. I think this item was 10 days too late for April fool's.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at April 10, 2008 8:55 PM

No,"What were you smoking?".

Mulva!

Posted by: Eskimo at April 10, 2008 10:22 PM

My favorite is still artists rendition of Chinese Olympic stadium. Complete with water feature.

Drained Brain:

Why waste time with the runners-up? Besides, I did my own research. I grew up in Ann Arbor, and a close friend of my father's owned a drugstore (honest) in Ypsi, within sight of the water tower.

Posted by: Mark L at April 11, 2008 9:37 AM

Bour3,

I kinda like how the light shines out of it.
