Unfortunately this probably represents the lost chapter in Canadian history as well. Does it come with the missing HRDC money? Maybe a pepper shaker? A Cretin bobble head you can choke the heck out of?

Jean Chretien, the Prime Minister who did absolutely nothing of significance in government. Well...unless you count the boondoggles and Adscam.

Dalton McGuinty's Liberals are petitioning the Supreme Court for the right to take away your basic civil rights. They're saying that "individual liberty interests" are being "overemphasized".

They are asking the Supreme Court to give the OK for random searches in 'high crime' neighbourhoods. Full story here: http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/story.html?id=411196

It appears columnist, journalist, whatever, Don Martin is the Liberals new best friend. He sure enjoys nit picking the Conservatives.

Helena Geurgis is his pick-on today. According to his 'expert' opinion she should be relegated to the back benches.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm sick and tired listening to and watching all the Liberal hype and frenzy over this Brenda Martin affair in Mexico.
Wish they'd have had some of that zeal when William Sampson was being tortured by ME scumbags.Ditto the Khadr affair which they did squat on when in power, BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT, and now they demand the Conservatives bring the poor baby home to mama.

Peter Mckay has to get involved now...this has gone too far.

I promise to respect any requests for confidentiality or anonymity. It's bad enough that civilians have had to put up with his crap for years -- I want to know if our troops do, too."

Calling all Canadian Forces and DND staff

"Warman works as a lawyer for the Department of National Defence. But what does he do there?"

"According to the Defence Wide Access Network, Warman’s title is “Director of Special Grievances – Enquiries and Investigations”. What the heck is that?"

"the Directorate of Special Grievances was set up “to actively manage and resolve high profile and sensitive cases” just before Warman came over from the CHRC It sounds to me a lot like the Canadian Forces’ internal human rights commission. Warman (listed on this org chart as DSpecGrievE&I) reports to the head of the DND’s Grievance Authority, who in turn reports to the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff."

Don Martin and the others(including Wells, Travers ) are lazy. If they were real journalists they would investigate instead of spinning the easy anti-CPC stories.
Ezra Levant is the only investigative journalist, and he's not on anyone's payroll.

Don Martin has become Captain Press Gallery (tra la la).

Guergis took a shot at the scumbag Hill media the day before last and Don is the spiteful, vengeful and rage motivated defender of the Hill party now.

He used to actually try to hold them to some standard. Now he is their hit beyatch.

If the Conservatives had two party screw-ups like Erikson and Akin, everyone would know. This is the Press Gallery Party covering for each other.

That and Martin probably got cut off at his favorite pub again and none of his fellow scribes will complain about it, so he is really pissed.

He will be whining on the at issue panel about it. Dont expect the pundits to mention the problems with their coverage.

Don Martin offers us a typical example of media bias. In addition to hopping on any negative trivialty they can that is anti-CPC, there is inadequate coverage of what is being accomplished by the government. The latest is the settling of 54 land claims -- the Harper gov approach to this is a sea change from what we have been seeing for the last 50 years -- and it largely goes unnoticed. The Globe did have an article on the 28th, but I have seen little else in the way of coverage: http://tinyurl.com/2ckklk

A Muslim's Way Out of Islam -- (An ex-Muslim explains Islam to you)

Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Hossain Salahuddin, a poet, essayist and an ex-Muslim who is the author of several books. He is the editor of the magazine Maverick, which promotes literature, freethinking and rationalism.

FP: Hossain Salahuddin, welcome to FrontPage interview.

HS: Thanks very much for having me. It’s a real pleasure to be here.

FP: Tell us about your childhood and your upbringing within Islam.

HS: I was born in 1984, into a Muslim family in Bangladesh . My family was rather orthodox and they made sure I learn the Quran properly even before they enrolled me in a school. I had a home tutor Mullah, who taught me reciting Quran in Arabic- and I was actually good at it. I remember completing the whole Arabic Quran three times before I turned 12 without even understanding a word of it. If I try to remember, I can feel that it was pretty suffocating with all sorts of do’s and don’t. You can’t do this, you can’t do that, and there was that constant reminder- “You are a Muslim, you should act like one.”

So, yeah, my childhood was not something that I am really proud of. There were all sorts of religious restraints around my neck and that actually affected my relationship with my family members. But, I should say I was still a believer back then; only there was a slight discomfort in me with the practicing form of Islam. I admit that I had a rather troubled childhood but I didn’t turn into a rebel just yet.

FP: What caused your second thought and your ultimate abandoning of Islam?

HS: Well, when I was around 13 or 14, I developed a great interest in creative writing, especially in poetry and I started to spend a lot of time reading books and writing poetry. I remember borrowing up to ten books at a time and reading them in a row. History, Science, Philosophy, Religion, Literature name it, all sorts of books. It was a fascinating time I can tell you that. I guess I was mentally a bit matured than my actual age, and I really cherish that part of my life as a period of illumination.

I think books taught me to think and judge things rationally, to escape from the world of prejudice and irrational beliefs. Books were my true liberator, it’s the best companion I ever had. But, it wasn’t always fun. My family didn’t take it lightly as they were noticing some change in me and also my teachers at school. In fact it was the teachers who gave me all sorts of trouble. Unfortunately, most of my teachers were very orthodox Muslims and they didn’t like my writings. They even banned my writings from the school magazine which really upset me given that I was probably the only student who could write creative things. And they were constantly reminding me that Islam doesn’t approve poetry, music, painting, mixing with non-Muslims or reading texts of other religion and it really confused me.

There was only one way to find out: by reading Quran and Hadith in my mother tongue. I read the Quran over and over again and couldn’t believe what I was reading. ...-

The second dutch film will not air (gatesofvienna.blogspot.com):

According to Islam Online:

Thanks to the intervention of the Dutch government, a second anti-Islam movie will not see the light, at least for now.

“I can confirm that Mr Ehsan Jami has decided not to broadcast his controversial film,” Ayhan Tunja, a member of the Muslim Coordinating Council of the Netherlands, told IslamOnline.net Tuesday, April 1, over the phone.

“He has announced his decision on Dutch television,” he added.

Jami, a former Muslim of Iranian origin, told the Netwrek TV show he has decided not to release his cartoon film, The Life of Muhammad, as expected on April 20.

The film would have reportedly shows a sexually aroused prophet.

A clip from the film aired on a Dutch television channel last week showed a man said to be the prophet in the company of a 9-year-old wife on their way to a mosque to allegedly deflower his bride.

Jami said Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin has talked to him about repercussions of the film release on social harmony and coexistence in the Netherlands as well as it national interests.

“The minister told Mr Jami he will be responsible for what happens,” said Tunja.

So the government of the Netherlands, the leadership of a sovereign European state, has declared that people who perpetrate violence are not responsible for their behavior. Has it really come to this?

Notice has now been given: cartoonists are to be held responsible for the destructive and murderous behavior of religious zealots.

A Postscript to Spitzer.
Herein the best definition of socialism ever written:
The Emperor Penguins: marching to oblivion.
...-

"Spitzer: born-again Leninist

It would have been interesting to have had Bill Buckley’s reaction to the implosion of Eliot Spitzer, prosecutorial bully, patronizer of expensive prostitutes, and former governor of New York. We suspect that he would have agreed with a recent article on the website TechCentralStation by the economist Arnold Kling. “It is a shame,” observed Mr. Kling, “that we only laugh at a Spitzer when his secret sex life is revealed to us. Instead of mocking Spitzers for their private foibles, we should be contemptuous of their public pronouncements. Whether it is ‘cleaning up Wall Street’ or ‘giving everyone health care,’ the Spitzers are making extravagant promises that only result in expanded government power.”

Short of dire national emergency, Bill Buckley knew, “expanded government power” is nearly always synonymous with “diminished individual liberty.” Elevated into a consistent policy, it is allied to the kind of collectivism that underwrote the tyranny of Communism. At the center of the totalitarian impulse is the belief that, at bottom, freedom belongs only to the state, that the individual should not be treated as a free actor but rather, as Lenin put it, as “‘a cog and a screw’ of one single great Social-Democratic mechanism.” The Spitzers of the world are, as someone said about the critic Philip Rahv, born-again Leninists. “What socialism implies above all,” said Lenin, “is keeping account of everything.” That is the goal, so prevalent among our most ambitious politicians these days, that requires checking. Keeping track of your health care, disposing of your money, regulating your food and drink and ration of tobacco: there they all are, ready, able, and willing to run your life for you.

The spectacle of Eliot Spitzer’s fall has provided a good deal of tawdry tabloid entertainment. But really, what matters about Spitzer were his actions as a public figure. He recklessly employed the power of the state partly to aggrandize himself, but more dangerously to insinuate state power into areas where it has no business intruding. Probably, few politicians are paid-up members of The Emperors’ Club. But how many patronize that other, more amorphous club of emperors, the one staffed by democratic despots whose overwhelming imperative is to relieve individuals of responsibility for themselves, transforming them from free citizens into clients of an increasingly bureaucratized, and increasingly insatiable, state apparatus?" ...-

"The Universal Spitzer

There are grievances, and then there are special grievances

I've received some interesting feedback on my last blog entry, describing Richard Warman's new job as a "Director of Special Grievances -- Enquiries and Investigations" at the Department of National Defence. Some feedback was posted directly to my comments section, and some has come to my e-mail. I expect a more, now that CF chat sites like Army.ca have taken note.'

"I want to know more about "Special Grievances" -- the sort that Richard Warman spends his time on.

"Because amongst the list of potential issues are a few that seem to call out his name, from "harassment" to "discrimination". Even "Canadian Human Rights Commission" is listed. I'm sure that even Warman couldn't turn a dispute over pension benefits into an opportunity for "maximum disruption". But I'm equally sure that the Special Grievances Directorate doesn't waste its time on such matters.

So keep your e-mails coming. I want to know just how special a Special Grievance has to be before it's given to Warman for his special treatment.

If Warman is indeed using his "maximum disruption" approach, the cases I'm looking for are likely going to come from soldiers who have been drummed out of the Canadian Forces, or marginalized within it. Send those stories over in confidence." ...-

Did the National Newswatch out themselves this morning?

The website which has never revealed who it is run by ran an April Fool's gag claiming Ken Dryden had resigned from Parliament to take on the GM job for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Is it the sub-prime mortgage fiasco that caused the economic downturn, or is it the sucking sound of hackers from their secure servers behind the safety of Russia*s borders?

* * These cases bring to 20 the number of complaints in which the FTC has charged companies with security deficiencies in protecting sensitive consumer information, * * FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras said in a release.

TJX said last March that at least 45.7 MILLION cards were exposed to possible fraud in a breach of its computer systems. Court filings by banks that sued TJX estimated the number of cards affected at more than 100 million.

In the other case, personal information about hundreds of thousands of people held by Netherlands-based Reed Elsevier's LexisNexis unit may have been accessed in 2005 by unauthorized individuals using stolen passwords and IDs to access Seisint databases.

Sherry Lang, TJX's senior vice president for investor and public relations, said the company disagreed with the FTC's allegations, but agreed to the settlement * * which is consistent with the agreements between the FTC and other retailers that have been victimized by cyber crime. * *

The Framingham, Mass.-based company's 2,500 stores include the T.J. Maxx and Marshalls chains.
