This is just another story showing how media is more concerned with being sensational then telling the truth. There is was no black hole. There was no possibility of a black hole. All it was an experiment that allowed us to see something we previously only thought could happen at a black hole.

So it is about the same as yelling fire, because someone made your coat smell like smoke.

Even still, it is still really cool stuff, once you get past the boneheaded reporting.

Sooner or later, scientists will create a real black hole in laboratory and the humanity on earth will end.

Just a matter of time.

While I initially found the headline a bit frightening, I have to agree c drtwolittle, and one of the commenters at the site; no black hole was created, simply a means of simulating a light event horizon. Once again the MSM trumps hype over substance -- wouldn't want the sheep to get too well informed -- could put the MSM out of a job. Having said that, the reporter's story was otherwise credibly presented. I wonder if it's a case of "science reporter vs editor" akin to Bambi vs Godzilla?

In Old Testament times, when prophecies about the future did not come true, the prophet was stoned to death by the mob.

The direction of your writings suggest you must be stoned already, thereby taking the pleasure away from the mob.

Even if a black hole were created in a lab it would be so small it would dissipate faster than it would grow - almost instantaneously. Or such is my understanding.

they think the when the new "collider" come on stream this year (I think) that they may be operating at high enough "voltage" to create some of these "flash" black holes.

I think that's a very cool experiment they set up...
